It's such a bummer when a restaurant closes. My first time dining at Pho Hang was nearly 20 years ago. It's a spot my dad and I frequented often. If you've been there, you know it was the definition of a hole-in-the-wall. My go-to dish was the bún thịt nướng chả giò (vermicelli with grilled pork and spring rolls). I've had this at many Vietnamese restaurants, but none hit the way Pho Hang's did. If you're also in need of a new Vietnamese spot, I recommend Que Huong down the road and New Asian Star in Clinton Township. read more

The place is very authentic and reasonably priced for the portions you get! The food was good and I really enjoyed the vermicelli lemongrass beef dish I got. I think I found my new favorite Vietnamese dish I'll be ordering! It's a nice small hidden restaurant where an old man is serving you. The place is cash only or you can Zelle them. But no cards are accepted there. So that is one down side. I'll definitely be stopping by again though! read more

Stopped by for lunch before heading to HMart. Reviewed the menu while waiting for the staff member. I went with fresh spring roll and #27 pho. I think the fresh spring rolls were premade, the skin was bit hardened. First time trying hot peanut sauce, never had it hot before. Can't say if it's better hot or cold, I guess it's really up to your personal taste. Pho was decent. Their broth was more of beef bone soup, wasn't too sweet, which I liked. It also did not have the strong aroma spice flavors like star anise. I was also bit surprised by them giving me a bottled water instead of tap water. Now I had hard time between 2 or 3 stars but went with 3. The difficulty was due to their prices. I had the most expensive pho of my life - $13.95. Typically in my area it's less than $10 for larger bowl then what they served. The fresh spring roll was $8 for 3 pcs. It's been a hot minute since I've been to Pho Hang - definitely pre-COVID. I know they've gone through a few management changes in the past decade or so but wow, the interior looks a lot different than before. Pho was perfect for today's rainy weather. Pho Hang was definitely one of the OG pho restaurants that have been around for a long time. My friend and I arrived at around 12:30. Despite a smaller crowd of people dining in, it still took 25 minutes for our pho to come out. I appreciate them for giving us bottled water here. #25 HOUSE SPECIAL PHO SOUP - PHO DAC BIET - 13.45 My first taste test is always the broth by itself. It was a lighter colored broth that was a bit light in taste but savory. A good amount of beef and onion ratio - would prefer something with more spice and stronger overall, though. Honestly, this was pretty expensive for pho given the portion size. There was a good amount of noodles (too overcooked and mushy), but not a lot of meat. There were only 1 or 2 pieces of each type of meat, too. Overall, the pho here is just OK. I was expecting a bit more and today's pho wasn't quite there. Overall, I will try other pho restaurants in the area before returning. However, I'm not opposed to trying the non-pho items here in the future. read more

A great family owned restaurant with father and son visibly working hard whenever we've dined or stopped to purchase the ready made foods. Whether we order Pho (soup) or an entree nothing has disappointed. We always come on the weekends as there are special Vietnamese items featured for immediate purchase to take home or to include eating with your menu order. In the summer the food offerings for sale are set up just outside the restaurant on the sidewalk . Today was cold and rainy so everything was visible from the front entry window and you are quickly enticed to come inside. There are beverages, snacks, desserts, and entrees available for purchase. There is always something different on the occasions we have purchased the fresh, ready to take/eat items. Never disappointed with anything we have tried. I ordered the house special pho, and the broth was good, however, the noodles seemed over cooked. They were wayyy too soft. Additionally, the ratio between cooked brisket & rare beef was off (way more brisket). Overall score 3/5 Found this place looking for a quick viet fix. I wanted to try something new other than the normal places I go to which is Thang Long and Que Huong. I decided to venture down Dequindre since there are a ton more viet places down that road. I found this spot since it was next to the Asian bakery I wanted to go to after. To start...i like hole in the wall places, they are probably the best places to eat at. I'll start with the positives, the waiter was nice, very attentive, a little swamped I think since he's by himself, seemed a little hard for him to multi-task, but he was super nice. The prices are reasonable to cheap IMO. The egg roll was different, actually pretty good. Now for the turn off...the restaurant seemed like it's not as clean as you would hope. Again, a hole in the wall place I can usually stand but this one was on the iffy side. Honestly I was a little hesitant to drink the water. The viet food was also in the iffy side. It was okay, not as bad as Saigon Diamond but not great either. I'm viet so I do my best to support this community by taking all my friends to these restaurants I find, but I probably wouldn't take them here unfortunately. Again, please don't read this and not think it's not worth a try, there are things here you should try, I just wasn't satisfied with this visit. They always have a TV playing in the background, and my hunch is that they change what they play based on what they think the current customers like. Which I found quite amusing. There are a number of Vietnamese restaurants in this area, and none of them truly stand out in any way or another. Best pho restaurant I've been to ever. Everything came out fresh, hot and so flavorful. My husband doesn't usually like pho but he definitely enjoyed the pho here. The only thing for me is that they don't clean their shrimps properly in my opinion. I know some people don't care about that but it's like a big deal for me so maybe don't order a shrimp pho, cause I just ended up picking mine out of my food all together so I wouldn't have to work about it. The Pho broth....oh my. It is truly a rockstar. So much flavor!!! Came on a Tuesday night around 6pm and it was empty. This was a plus. Sat down immediately but it took several minutes before the server came to take our order. Once he did, he was very friendly. Their menu is huge and they have a ton of pictures on it to help guide you, which is great. Everything on the menu looked spectacular but I am pretty lame and got my normal "Pho Ga" which is just the chicken noodle soup. It's so comforting on a cold winter night! They make their chicken Pho with beef broth and boyyyyy was it tasty. packed with flavor! There were pieces of garlic floating in the broth and I couldn't get enough. The bowl they gave us was HUGE. I felt like I kept eating and eating and my bowl just wouldn't go down. it's great for the price. I had plenty enough leftovers for lunch the next day. My only small complaint is that they didn't give us a ton of veggies. I'm used to other Pho restaurants where they load up the plate with lots of bean sprouts, fresh jalapeno, and limes. Seating is strangely tight consistent with Asian communal standards. I prefer booths. There was a language barrier with the pleasant multi-tasking waiter. Went conservative and ordered a vermicelli noodle and veggie seafood stir-fry. It was very good with quality ingedients. The menu listed the price of the dish as $9.45 however the actual bill said $12.45. Not sure if something was lost in translation since I did not order any other items. Due to the language barrier and time constraints, I wasn't in the mood to discuss the billing error so I paid it. Perhaps the waiter calculated the bill logarithmically based on the US dollar versus Vietnamese Dong exchange rate? (sarcasm). Bottom line: Good food, dirty atmosphere, shady billing. This place has been run by different owners in the past four five years. We stopped going there for a while since the food just taste different than the original one . We decided to give it a try today since it has new chef and the place is packed with people again . I tried my all time favorite #32 beef stew with Pho . There are many Vietnamese restaurants in Madison Heights but only this place offers this dish . I was blown away by the flavorful broth and aromatic smell of the beef stock ! The veggie summer rolls were good, but the peanut sauce was average, was missing something, the chili helped. I love the veggie rolls and the peanut sauce with the chili sate sauce at Danang, best. I have never found a better peanut sauce and chili pairing at another Vietnamese restaurant. I ordered the beef broth Pho without the beef slices, only veggies. The broth was very bland and boring, but with any Pho it is always made better with more Hoisin and Sriracha. I enjoyed my Pho soup, but my BF, thought the broth too boring, since he only adds Hoisin to it, doesn't like the heat. I can only eat my food if it has great flavors or spice. The price is decent and the staff's English is rather broken, but it's very authentic. I think Pho Que Hong is still the best casual Vietnamese dining in the area. read more

They do some solid eats here. I like the infusion of Chinese flavors and dishes. I had the #37 shrimp wonton soup my first visit, very good. When I had the House Special Bun Thit Nuong the pork was really overcooked. Everything else in it was awesome. I've had pho like 10 times, but this was my first Bun Thit. It really was a great cool noodle salad with protein for a summer dish, so I definitely enjoyed it. Was I supposed to eat this with chopsticks, or the fork? I used both lol. I've been punched before. Kicked before, had my heart broken before. But nothing compared to the pain I experienced last night when I ordered from here. Let me tell you a story that will undoubtedly tug on your hearstrings like no other. I had to order some fried rice for a potluck at work the next day, so I thought, "why not order something for myself too?" Little Saigon (curse them) closed an hour early, so I had to go here. But I've been here before, and it was good, so I thought why not? It's close, it's familiar. The rice was good, but the dish I ordered (PICTURE BELOW), was horrendous. It looked like they just microwaved the rice rolls and cut them up and put them in the box. Same with the pork patties. They didn't even bother to separate the rice to make it look good. It was just THERE. Like wtf? I could've made this by myself at home, and make it look better than this. I ordered at 9:10, and they closed at 10:00. So maybe they ran out of food and was like "F*ck it, we'll just give it to him to get his money." F*ck me indeed. They also put 4 orders (3 fried rice boxes and 1 rice roll box) in the same bag, causing the weight of the rice to smash and bend the boxes below it. And all in one bag! Not even double wrap. So I'm left insulted and heartbroken. Never again, Pho Hang, never again. 2 stars because rice was good, and rice roll box was edible. First THE GOOD: - The dining room is spacious, lots of seating - They are open from 8a-11p every day, about as good as it gets w/o being 24 hours. - The menu is fairly extensive, more options than you'll find at most of the competitors. - They put fresh mint leaves in their Bun dishes. I wish everybody did this. - They serve up a very good bowl of pho. - They have a fish tank full of live tilapia which they will butcher and cook on the spot. No clue how authentic this is but it certainly adds an air of awesomeness. Now THE NOT AS GOOD: - The food is good but for my tastes not as good as several of the local competitors. Better pho at Thu Trang and my other go-to dishes (Bun/Com) are done comparably but better at Little Saigon* (as well as at Pho Tai and Que Huong). - I've had some very poorly trimmed tendon in my pho at Pho Hang. The texture was like biting into an eyeball with the lens still attached. - Dealing with the parking lot sucks, especially during peak hours. My insurance company would for sure jack my rates if they knew I was visiting this strip mall semi-regularly. * Note that Little Saigon was bought last year (hostile take-over?) by one of the Pho Hang people. This is just personal opinion/preference, but I would suggest you follow her over there. That being said, Pho Hang is still a solid option. read more

The food is not terrible but i had way better. I like how they have the sugarcane drink which (I don't think) most places do. My rice dish was appealing. You can actually see the grill marks on the pork chop. The shredded pork was okay. Egg was perfectly cooked. The soup came with it though was barely warm. It probably would've been super tasty with it at least warm (I prefer hot). Though the egg on top of the rice was pretty. I prefer the sautéed green onions on top of it so the rice soaks up the oil and it becomes flavorful since the rice is normally on the drier side and needs some moisture. read more

In the past, I would have given this place one or two stars at the most. It used to be the smallest, dingiest Vietnamese restaurant with lackluster waiters and mediocre food. However, thanks to a renovation and new management, Pho Hang may have a bright future after all. My old standbys at any Vietnamese restaurant are pho dac biet, bun thit, and com suon. I've had the pho and bun thit from Pho Hang and they are pretty good. The pho broth was light and flavorful with subtle hints of anise and cinnamon, not too overpowering. I would have liked it a bit more beefy but this was pretty good. The bun thit had perfect thin vermicelli noodles with plenty of barbecued pork, crispy spring rolls, shrimp, and crisp veggies that I doused with my sweet and salty fish sauce. The waitstaff are friendly although still could improve on etiquette but us Asians are not known for impeccable manners. I'm delighted to see the restaurant is better decorated with a little more elbow room. I plan on going to Pho Hang more often but definitely NOT on a Sunday unless I want a dent on my car due to the tiny parking lot and incompetent drivers. read more

This used to be my family's go-to for Pho but it has gone downhill over the years. They skimp on everything now. Less noodles, a half wedge of lime, half of a meatball, fewer pieces of lower quality meat...and we have gotten brown, slimy bean sprouts on several occasions. The restaurant itself isn't very clean and the service is slow. My family likes the flavor of their broth and the convenience of being next to the Vietnamese grocery store which they frequent...but there are several places in the immediate vicinity with soup that is equally as good if not better.
