This is no frills delicious cuisine. I have been here twice, once when they were extremely busy, and once when they were slow. In both instances we were promptly seated, Our tea glasses never ran dry, and the staff is constantly on the move wiping up spills and cleaning off tables. I've only eaten a vermicelli bowls, once with chicken with Basil, one with shrimp. The chicken was thinly sliced and packed with flavor of the broth. I started coming here in 2010. I used to live North Austin, so initially it was close and easy. The food is delicious and fast. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is fine...no frills. There are a lot of Vietnamese patrons if that tells you anything. I absolutely love their pho, vermicelli bowl, banh mi, chicken fried rice, avocado smoothie, and spring rolls. Much of this food is pretty authentic to what you would get in Vietnam (and yes I've been, which is why I say this). I've never been disappointed going here. Very salty pho broth and I addressed it to lady up front. You have to ask for extra basil, since they put so little. Lettuce inside of spring rolls was not of first freshness. I think there is something addictive in this food. Every once in awhile I get a craving that can only be satisfied by a #37 (Chicken + egg rolls + rice noodles on a bed of lettuce, carrots and cucumbers). The egg rolls are crisp, and not very greasy. I also really like their pho -- it is my go to cold weather food. I would also recommend the coffee. I'm really not a coffee drinker -- but I heart their chicory coffee served over sweet condensed milk. This place is always super packed during the lunch hour since its close to Dell, but the staff is extremely efficient at getting people seated quickly. Other pluses : the food comes out very quickly and it is cheap. Cheap good food -- I love it. The only bad thing I can say about this place is they don't take credit cards. My family and I wanted to try Pho Viet but when we arrived it was closed for the holidays. So we checked other Yelp reviews for local Pho restaurants and I came across this place. I am very glad I did! The wait staff was very attentive and prompt. The food was fresh and absolutely fantastic!! We all started with some eggrolls and everyone loved them. The sweet vinegar to dip them in was really tasty! I ordered the Pho #11. It comes with a generous portion of fresh basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, sliced jalapeños and lime wedge to add to your Pho. So good!! The thin slices of beef are added raw to the broth and cook perfectly in the hot soup right before your eyes!! YUM! Zero complaints!! Will be back for sure!! read more

Let me tell you the only reason this didn't get 5 stars. The interior is very rough when you want to enjoy a conversation with your party. I usually go out with 2-3 other people, and its not fun being crammed shoulder to shoulder with other people you don't know. It gets loud and uncomfortable. That said, Pho Hoang is my #1 carry out spot. They are super fast and make what has to be my favorite Bun. And by the way...You can finally pay with plastic. CHEAP! Delicious! Fast! 3 things I hold dear to me. I love their rice noodle dishes, and especially the ones with egg rolls in them! I am a huge egg roll fan. Pho Hoang is located in a place I ordinarily wouldn't go to, but my husband dragged me there touting the size of the dishes and how delicious they were, and now I'm hooked. It's great because he gets full (which is incredibly hard for him to achieve), and I get leftovers. The only complaint I have about Pho Hoang, is the quality of the meat. I wish it was a little more high quality, I personally prefer organic food, and I am 100% positive this is not organic. I don't like the chicken with the fat, or chewy meat, but it's not horrible. It's not inedible by any means... I just tend to order dishes with seafood or tofu instead. I think for the price and the taste, this place has definitely earned 4 stars. read more

Ok so here it goes. I've never been to this establishment therefore decided to play it safe and order my usual. Spring rolls with fish sauce and a fresh bowl of Pho Tai! Before I get into the meal, i want to mention the aesthetics of the place and service. You're greeted right away and met with a smile upon being seated. The restaurant decor was quite interesting with almost giving a hint of the inside colors of the Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. The floors are clean cement but the overall feel is that of an outdoor market. Now the meal. My order was brought out swiftly after I ordered with Spring Rolls first. The Spring Rolls were not fresh as the bang trang wrapper seemed hard, and dry. The fish sauce was also very plain which was quite a disappointment. Ah but the Pho came out and became quite impressed. You see the meat should not be cooked by the time the bowl hits your table. The thin slices of meaty goodness should be raw and fresh and cook in your bowl while the broth is lava-hot. It met my expectations as the slices of lean cow goodness were rare but cooked well in the amazing broth. As for the broth which is the staple of the perfect Pho, loved it. It had a sheen of a little oil or perhaps the fat of the meat it was cooked in. Regardless, it was very flavorful and promoted me to not drown it in Sriracha and Hoysan Sauce. Unfortunately I was never given refill on my water but I find this typical in Vietnamese run establishments. So if you're ever in Round Rock north of Austin, swing by and check this place out. Food wise it's ok just be wary of their usage of MSG. Pho here is a hit and miss but you'll probably enjoy it more compared to other joints around here if you get the good days where the broth is very soupy and the beef flavor just jumps right at you. Prices are good for portion you get. The decor is meh, the staff isnt too friendly. They did recently start accepting plastic for payment. Food is very fast whether dining in or taking out. I ordered crispy fried noodles with assorted meat. What part of that is hard? Instead I got soft noodles. They sent it back, then came back with crispy noodles, but seafood combination - I like shrimp, but that's about it. Next up, my wife orders large bowl of chicken pho, my mother in-law orders small bowl of chicken and tofu pho. What'd we get? Large bowl of chicken and tofo, small bowl of just tofu. We live in Round Rock but we usually go to Pho Saigon on Lamar. Several people have told us that Pho Hoang in Round Rock is really good so we finally decided to try it out. We didn't like it at all. We were the only ones there but our food took so long to come out. I ordered the brisket pho. The broth was not nearly as good as Pho Saigon and the broth is what makes it. The broth was darker than I like and didn't have that clean taste that I was hoping for. I thought about ordering the egg rolls but after being disappointed with the pho, I decided not to. The restaurant itself seemed a little dingy. I know that you don't go to eat pho for the decor or anything but still... something just felt off there. I am a regular and would eat here daily if possible! Most of the time I get Pho Tai Nam but I often go for a bowl of Bun. The Cha Gio and Spring Rolls are always fresh and delicious. This place can get crowded, particularly at lunch. It tends to get noisy at those times as would be expected. Service is fast and friendly and the speedy and efficient delivery of the food to the table is unsurpassed. It is very inexpensive, so you won't need too much cash and maybe you can bum a little from your unsuspecting friend who you invited to lunch. Walk in and try to find a place to sit since everyone has already discovered this lovely little restaurant. Don't worry, because the wait staff is very efficient at finding you a table and hustling out with your food. I have ordered the pork chops with egg and rice before, but on this visit I tried the house specialty fried rice. It is probably the best fried rice dish I have tasted in Round Rock. Add a little Sriracha (Rooster sauce) to spice things up and you are good to go. If things get too spicy, order some Thai iced tea and enjoy the coolness. We always share a large portion since it's a lot They are very friendly and quick to take your orders. The food comes out very quick as well! I love, love, love this place. Best Vietnamese anywhere in Austin. I have been eating here and Burnet location for over 10 years. Used to eat it 4 tines a week. I get either the #16 Pho or the #32 vermicelli (but without noodles). Quality is always good, food fresh, service is blazing fast even when crowded. When the hurricane hit Houston several years ago I noticed the Burnet location full of Vietnamese from Houston. Thats a great sign! I only wish they had Bahn Mi sandwiches. My son and I went here based on the review from Huy N. and maybe our mistake was in not ordering Pho. The food was just so so and not really worth the calories. I was surprised that they charge $1.50 extra to fry their wide rice noodles. The noodles were good, but needed some kind of sauce. I was unhappy with the variety of bun bowls and disappointed that they did not have sliced beef only ground. I also didn't see any lemongrass tofu and that made me sad. When we left I noticed that my lips were a little oily and I felt kind of greasy. I won't be back, but again maybe it's because I don't like Pho - I prefer Bun. S read more

I gave Pho Hoang 2 stars (1 star for the pho and 1 star for the great service). I am from San Jose, CA and I am vietnamese, so pho is one of my specialties. First off, if you plan to eat lunch here, come before 1130 or 12 because thats when all the Dell employees have their lunch break and come pouring in with their flashy Dell ID badges. I ordered the UNSATISFYING #12 pho dac biet. The broth was pitch black, the tripe was cooked to the point that you would not recoognize it as tripe, the beef variety was nothing close to a variety, more like fake frozen cheap cuts of meat, and the noodles were undercooked (very hard). Also, the complimentary veggies plate (limes, beansprouts, etc) looked as if the veggies were half dead! Save your time and try another Pho restaurant around here! read more

My first time here after reading reviews and seeing so back and forth opinions. I can say this place is the definition of adequate. The pho broth is greasy and oily but taste is a low. The veggies that come with it were very sad looking. The noodles they use are not even rice noodles I believe. (They are very thick.) coming down to the spring rolls. I ordered tofu spring rolls they were okay to say the least. The tofu inside tasted very burnt and old. Also the spring roll it self was hard which isn't what you expect when you order a spring roll. The sauce really saved the day here though. Now to the service I honestly probably saw the server twice when he took the order and when he brought the food other then that I wouldn't of even known I had a server so the service here is a one star for me. Full disclosure...I didn't have the pho - I had the chicken and vege fried rice and it was no where near great. :/ I went with a Vietnamese cuisine newbie and definitely a pho-neophyte, who obviously wanted to try "whatever is synonymous to Vietnamese cuisine" to which I replied pho...well he claimed it smelled like vicks vapor-rub and tasted worse. I searched Yelp to find a Pho restaurant and a few came up, we decided to try this one off of Burnet and Rutland. Last week was my first Pho experience and I didn't know what I was getting into. Apparantly, my first experience was not to be an experience at all. Pho Hoang only uses beef broth and I don't eat beef. I was able to find one dish on the menu that I could eat. Holy moly...the Viets like their pork and beef! That dish was good, it was lemongrass, rice, and shrimp. There isn't any kind of steamed vegetable selection here. So, if you don't eat beef and like lots of cooked veggies then this Pho place is not going to be for you. Also, super important to note that it's cash only! It's a strip mall spot-horrible lighting, lame decor, but I wouldn't knock it for that, it's just not going to be a romantic/intimate date night spot. ; ) read more

#45 Vermicelli, where have you been all my life? Fantastic food, served immediately, and even though it's cash only, they reach for your ticket when they see you walking to the register. It's rare to see this type of operational excellence in any restaurant. I visited 5 times in a month for lunch and they always run like clockwork. Why I love #45 vermicelli? The thin slices of bbq beef are sweet and smoky, the grilled shrimp are right off the flame, and the egg roll pieces are the perfect bite size appetizer. Drizzle the whole thing with that fish sauce, or whatever you call it, and it's a wonderfully textured melange of noodle, salad, soup and crunchy protein. Love it. read more
