I searched Yelp to find a Pho restaurant and a few came up, we decided to try this one off of Burnet and Rutland. Last week was my first Pho experience and I didn't know what I was getting into. Apparantly, my first experience was not to be an experience at all. Pho Hoang only uses beef broth and I don't eat beef. I was able to find one dish on the menu that I could eat. Holy moly...the Viets like their pork and beef! That dish was good, it was lemongrass, rice, and shrimp. There isn't any kind of steamed vegetable selection here. So, if you don't eat beef and like lots of cooked veggies then this Pho place is not going to be for you. Also, super important to note that it's cash only! It's a strip mall spot-horrible lighting, lame decor, but I wouldn't knock it for that, it's just not going to be a romantic/intimate date night spot. ; ) read more

#45 Vermicelli, where have you been all my life? Fantastic food, served immediately, and even though it's cash only, they reach for your ticket when they see you walking to the register. It's rare to see this type of operational excellence in any restaurant. I visited 5 times in a month for lunch and they always run like clockwork. Why I love #45 vermicelli? The thin slices of bbq beef are sweet and smoky, the grilled shrimp are right off the flame, and the egg roll pieces are the perfect bite size appetizer. Drizzle the whole thing with that fish sauce, or whatever you call it, and it's a wonderfully textured melange of noodle, salad, soup and crunchy protein. Love it. read more

Pho Hoang - Pho Tai - Vietnamese Near Me - Austin, Texas

I've only had pho at two places in Austin: this place and Pho Saigon. The soup at Pho Saigon is wayyy better... there is just no contest... period. First off, the broth. when I first smelled the broth I knew right away it was not going to be as good as the one at Pho Saigon. It smelled like old meat.... it didn't give the broth a bad flavor or anything.. it was just ...off. I had to dump a lot of hoisin, sriracha and lime into the soup in order to drown out the not-so-impressive broth flavor. The pho broth at Pho Saigon is nice and clean... crisp.. fresh tasting. This one tasted not so fresh. Second, the beef. I orded the pho with rib eye and flank... at least that is what I paid for.... the meat looked the same to me. Another thing is that it didn't even look like real, fresh meat.. it was a lot like beef you'd get at a deli shop. I even got some gummy parts... I'm not too picky about beef since I don't eat it much but the fact that someone like me noticed that should say something... blah to the meat. At Pho Saigon you get real, pink meat heheh...I don't like raw meat.. but as soon as I push the beef down into the hot broth it cooks immediately. Third, the herbs/veggies. I got a few, thin slices of jalape~no, 2-3 wilted cliantro stems w/ leaves, 2 medium-sized stems of basil, about 1/2 cup of bean sprouts, and less than half a lime. Not impressed here either. At Pho Saigon they give you a HUGE mountain of fresh herbs and bean sprouts, thickly sliced jalape~nos and half a lime. Fourth, the noodles. Noodles are noodles. The only thing I have to point out is that I got about 1/3 less at Pho Hoang. Pricewise both places are inexpensive. I paid $6.60 (w/o tax) at Pho Hoang and $5.95 (w/o tax) at Pho Saigon. Okay, that was the info for the soup. The service. It was fast. Really fast. The downside is that they don't accept cash. Another thing is their website is useless, I guess no one is in charge of that. Don't even bother going there, you won't find a menu. Last but not least, the bathroom. I had my baby with me... I needed to change her, guess what??? No changing table. Prior to having a baby I never cared about things like this... but now I do. I had to go to out to my car. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. One more thing, prior to finding reviews for this place on yelp I found some reviews elsewhere where at least two people said they've seen cockroaches at this place. Yes, I still went there even after I read that. I only went to this place because I was too lazy to drive all the way to Pho Saigon... was it worth it? I don't think so. Next time I'm dying for some pho I'll either drive down to Pho Saigon or try and make my own at home. I'd be open to going there again and trying something else, I've no doubt about that. I'll just pass on their pho. To the person who said this pho is the best in town (Shannon B.): you shouldn't say that ..... unless you've had pho at all the Vietnamese places in Ausin. read more

I am a huge fan of Vietnamese food and this place is definately one of the best. The menu is based on the basic pho, bun, com, etc dishes done in a variety of options. Nothing over complicated or fancy here, just good quality food. Most everything is in the $5 to $7 range making it a very reasonable place for lunch and a heck of a bargain for dinner. All the dishes I've tried have been great and the spring rolls and egg rolls are outstanding. At lunch time the place gets very crowded, at least it did when I worked at Dell in RR a few years ago. In the evenings there are generally a good number of people dining there but not overly crowded at all. I love getting to go orders here as they bring the food out very fast. I usually buy for 4 people and they have the order bagged and ready to go in 5 to 10 min with no problem. The only drawback, no credit cards. Minor inconvenience, however the food is very reasonably priced which I assume is probably a benefit of them not having to pay CC fees on their sales. read more

In town on business and this place was right around the corner from the hotel. Staff was friendly and efficient and the spring rolls were amazing. Pho was really good, too! Drinks were always refilled without asking and the server even brought me a fork when she noticed I was "struggling" with my chopsticks - I think I was actually playing with my food while I was in the middle of a conversation :-). The first time I ate at Pho Hoang was when I was looking for an apartment in Austin 10 years ago. Since that time, I have frequented both locations constantly. Their pho is truly outstanding, their bun(vermicelli noodles) equally good, and their com (crushed rice) dishes are excellent. Their pho is different than many of the other Vietnamese restaurants around town. I'm not sure why their broth tastes so rich and flavorful compared to other places, and I don't care. The fried egg rolls are excellent, and also unique. They are not filled with mounds of cabbage and carrots, but with succulent meat and ...I'm not sure what else. Regardless of the contents, their taste is outstanding. I am also a fan of their Cafe Sua Da, or iced coffee. It is thick and rich and a perfect way to top off a spicy bowl of pho. I eat here about once a week, so I have a so I have tried just about everything on their menu. I have never had a single bad meal or bad experience at Pho Hoang. There are lots of Vietnamese places around Austin, but Pho Hoang is my all time favorite. Go there, you won't be disappointed. read more

Pretty good price for the quantity you get. Every dish is dislicious my favorite is #46 and you could just say 46 and they know. 46 has all great protein food shrimp chicken and an egg roll noodles and it comes with green veggies but if your not a veggie person like me you Can say no veggies and they will add more noodles. Pho Hoang - Grilled pork vermicelli bowl with egg roll. - Vietnamese Near Me - Austin, Texas

You'll likely know it by the crowd, but probably the best vermicelli bowls in town. Unlike many other places, it really feels like they actually make your lunch to order here. It comes out hot and fresh rather than cold or luke warm. (Note that the Rutland location isn't as consistent in this...) I highly recommend the vermicelli with egg rolls and the meat of your choice - chicken and pork are both great. I could eat this every day - that good! Also, with all the noodles, this is a very filling lunch for the price. Pho is also very good with great flavor and plenty of content, rather than just a bowl of broth. Be careful of the hot sauce on the tables though - phew - it has a bite. I also really appreciate that this place (and thus you after lunch) doesn't smell like a pair of dirty socks soaked in a vat of fermented fish poo. Why do most Pho places stink so bad? read more

The only reason I am not giving a 5 star rating is that the service is hit or miss. Sometimes the servers are very friendly and attentive and sometimes its hard to get a refill on your water. I found this place across the way from Deckhands, took a chance, and was extremely satisfied. Super awesome pho joint. The broth is on point. The steamed pork dumplings are phenomenal. Up until recently, I've been coming to Pho Hoang strictly for pho. Well, during the summers and beyond when it's still sweltering outside, it's nearly impossible to eat it without sweating! So, I started ordering their noodle dishes and I have to agree that #37 is amazing!! The marinated chicken is delicious and the meal is very light and refreshing. It is a small restaurant but packed with huge flavor! I have tried pho, and then, I have tried their PHO! The broth was excellent, the noodles, meat and veggies consistent with other pho places. Loved the fragrant deliciousness served in a huge bowl. It was very good, but they could work on their portions....we received a small and a large bowl of pho....but it was the same quantity for both plates....I guess pay less and order the small...? Their portions are always well worth the price & the staff, when I have called in to place an order, are always very friendly. The pho here is excellent compared to the other pho joints in the Austin area. The broth isn't as light as the usual broths you would find at other places so it feels more like my mom's pho. They aren't stingy with their meat but the price is a bit high for "pho." That being said, you can't really get cheap, good pho outside of the Westminster area in SoCal or in Houston so I digress... This is yet another superb Vietnamese restaurant up in the Round Rock area. It's kind of amazing how there are so many good places up north for not only pho, but Vietnamese cuisine in general. The chicken pho is super (with a lot of meat!!), service is quick, and the restaurant atmosphere feels authentic. It's very reminiscent of the Asian/Vietnamese area over in H-town, where I've also had some pretty amazing food. Only negative is, yes, like others have mentioned, no plastic. I can understand a business not wanting to take credit cards due to the obnoxious fees they can charge, but isn't something like Square a reasonable alternative? The only thing that keeps me from coming here more often is that I almost never carry cash. They do have a "convenient" ATM ($3 fee) in store though! Definitely worth a stop, though, if you're up north and have some cash. read more

First time to visit, my boyfriend has been several times. We were seated promptly and received our drinks quickly BUT when the waitor came over chewing his food with his mouth open without greating us or even saying a word I realized we may have made a mistake. The food came out quickly and was seemingly good until my boyfriend pulled a hair out of his mouth. Of course knowing this happens he wasn't terribly upset. He hailed the waitor who upon hearing there was a hair in his food to him to find it for him. He tried to take it out of the bowl and give it back to my boyfriend. That's when things turned south. Mind you, we've only had a couple of bites at this point. My boyfriend handed him the bowl telling him he wasn't going to eat it. Instead of apologizing as expected, the waitor then proceeded to insinuate the hair was mine. That's when we stood up and left. We have NEVER had worse service. We will never be back abd you can guarantee I will tell everyone I know about my experience. Went to Pho Dan, our first time there, had an amazing experience. read more

Small but clean interior. I don't know if this Pho Hoang is the same as the other Pho Hoang on Rutland but I like this place better. Last time I went to Rutland Hoang the pho was very bad and I won't be going back. This location is however still very good. The pho is in fact very much like the other location when it was good. There is a more herbal, beefy taste to the broth. The meat is pretty edible and the noodles a firm consistency. would recommend for their pho, have not tried anything else here. read more

This stuff is awesome and addicting. A big bowl of number #37 will have you hooked for life. Like Sarah G. said, there is someting addictive about that fish sauce! The spring rolls are very, very tasty as well. It is inexpensive and one dish will feed a very hungry person very well. If you have never had bun, this is the one to try, it will sell you, and spoil you! I have taken many folks there, even those who don't wander far from the meat and potato line, and they have all loved it. Yeah, i keep a check with me just for them because they don't take plastic, but the trouble is worth it! Because they really have no atmosphere, we rarely eat there. This Vietnamese restaurant is far below average. Their Pho is a dark colored broth and on the average tastes, how would you say.. stale? The vermicelli bowl tasted fine, but the pieces of chicken were flavorless. Their sliced pork rice plate was so terrible, my wife ate about 1/4 of the plate. It literally tasted like seasoned cardboard. The spring rolls were very dry and the rice wrap was hard. Also, the egg rolls are so loosley wrapped that a lot of oil gets trapped when in the deep fryer... just not good. There are too many Viet restaurants in town to offer food this bad. We will not be going back. I would mention that the "service" was bad too, but unfortunately, it's pretty bad at most Viet restaurants. read more

I've been coming here since January, and I have not been disappointed. Each visit was always pleasant, fast, and a great experience. I love the variety of noodles on their menu; vermicelli, egg noodles, stir fried, or soup style! I have yet to try the rice menu. There is never a long wait for your order to come out. The spring rolls/summer rolls are what I like to start of with. And then the pho! I couldn't tell you what my favorite is, to be honest. If you like seafood, I recommend the pho seafood.
