This is my go-to pho place. I normally get the filet mignon pho and upgrade to the flat noodles! The broth is tasty and there's a good amount of meat in it. I've had other things on the menu here like the grilled pork vermicelli and the meat stew with baguette (small portion) and I think the pho is the best after all. We stumbled upon this pho restaurant when we in San Diego. It was a short drive from where we were staying in Old Town San Diego. So happy to have discovered this place. The pho was pretty tasty and satisfying. And I love their pretty bowls. It looks like one of those places that locals go to. It is not touristy at all. And I think the prices are reasonable because it is not in a touristy area. Would definitely come here again if I'm in the area. Parking lot is shared with other nearby businesses. The parking lot seemed full, but it did not take long to find a parking space. Since I've moved from MV, Pho kitchen is still one of my favorite places to go to and not just for the convenient takeout bun. I've since also tried their pho, I like how it's simple to customize. There's the P1, which is the nicest cut filet mignon. Then P2 which is everything. Then P3 where you can pick and choose the meats. I don't even look at the chicken or shrimp options. The broth is very flavorful and they give you a good amount of protein so I'm pretty good with the regular size. I love that they're always super efficient and the prices are much more reasonable than their competitors. read more

The quality and value for the price is really good imo. I have been to many pho places, in the SD area, IE area, and in Vietnam. Their noodles are very good as well, not hand cut like some places but the quality of the pho beats that. I always find myself craving their pho. Their egg rolls are so good too!!!! I ordered the #1 pho with filet. It was just okay... not amazing, but not horrible. The flavor was lacking; it tasted like it was missing something. The broth had no depth. The meat, however, was tender and good quality. My boyfriend and I also got the spring rolls with pork and shrimp, which had one super thin slice of pork and like 2 tiny pieces of shrimp in each spring roll lol. It was basically all noodle and lettuce. I wouldn't recommend getting it. The inside of the restaurant is modern and clean. However, the ambiance was weird. There was no music playing and there was only one other party eating beside mine, so it was extremely quiet in the restaurant. I felt like I had to whisper to my boyfriend LOL. I wouldn't come again, but if I was dragged here, I wouldn't mind that much. I really think there is potential to be better. Parking can be hit or miss with the shared lot, but I got a space right in front of the restaurant this time. When I walked in, there were several empty tables that were not cleaned up yet. The manager asked that I wait a few minutes for them to bus a table. I noticed during my visit that busing was very sporadic and slow by the staff. I wanted some bun (vermicelli rice noodles) so I went big and ordered the Bun Special. The bowl contained two BBQ shrimp, two egg rolls, pork, chicken, and a wedge of meat loaf. I don't know of another local Vietnamese spot that has meat loaf as a protein choice. The flavors were very good, however I should have asked for another cup of fish sauce because one was insufficient for the amount of ingredients in the bowl. The menu prices were reasonable and their location is convenient for me so I gave Pho Kitchen four stars. read more

Gave this place another try. Got the R2 this time which comes with your choice of either noodles or rice. I choose it with noodles and also choice of 2 proteins. I got the egg rolls The egg rolls here are very flavorful and crunchy. I opened to double the egg rolls as I knew in the past they were every good. I like that they have the hoisin sauce and chili sauce on the table. I love my food spicy and of course I poured on the chili sauce. I ended up emptying the bottle but it was very good. I think when my friends are craving Vietnamese food and they want to go here the R2 with double egg rolls will always be my choice when here. The restaurant is clean and I was greeted readily. It was around 6:30 on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was packed. I was hoping for a seafood pho for myself and mixed beef and seafood for my husband. Unfortunately, they don't have either. I ordered a shrimp pho because that is the only seafood they had. I prefer a mixed seafood pho for variety. Since they didn't have mixed seafood and beef, I ordered some extra shrimp for my husband's pho. I was offered $1 for each shrimp, so I added three. The flavor of the pho was very good. We also ordered the fresh spring rolls... that were true to the name... very fresh. The shrimp were flavorful and big, but I do wish the tails had been removed, as it makes it harder for them to eat out of a soup dish. All in all, I think the food is very good. Pho was pretty good and filling for the regular size, I'm not sure if I could finish a large! I ended up getting the Bun Rieu and my husband got some type of beef stew. It was a bit confusing when we arrived as the sign said to wait to be seated but then further inside the restaurant at the register, the employees seemed like they were waiting for us to come in to them. When we asked for a table for two, they just pointed in a general direction for us to sit and once we sat at a table, they told us that one was reserved, so we moved to another table. When they delivered our food, we were pointedly told that "just so you know, we close at 9pm" which was about 15-20 minutes from then and I got the vibe they were really saying "hurry up and eat and leave" in a nicer way. I heard the same lady asking if the table behind us though wanted anything else and they weren't rushed to leave, so that was a bit odd. So all in all, food was good, service was just ok. read more

I am so disappointed to be writing this review. I love this place, the food is great, atmosphere is peaceful, and the customer service is usually great. One of the men working is very kind and often plays Journey at closing time. But I will not be dining here any longer. I have reason to believe that one of the employees working on June 11, 2024 around 7pm took my credit card information. Usually when I bring my friends to the business, we pay at the register. This gentleman working took my card with the bill and I believe that's when he chose to commit fraud. Luckily I have American Express so the following morning after dinner, a $3500 charge at Gucci ECommerce and an attempt to add my card to a digital wallet was declined. I attempted to call the restaurant to speak with the owner and was hung up on (the fraudulent employee picked up the phone). I will not be going here again. Possibly the best pho and bun in San Diego. Amazing! First off, when your server is an older Vietnamese man and not some punk kid, you know it's just has to be good, lol! Second, they make their own sa tế in house!!!! The flavor is an unholy fermented delight! Not for weak palates, it's just the perfect combination of crisp and umami with a bit of heat. We ordered: 1. Pho- regular size with filet steak only- the broth was deliciously aromatic- especially after adding the basil, sprouts, jalapeño and lime. The noodles were the perfect texture! Often at pho restaurants I find the noodles to be pre-cooked and clumped together- difficult to separate after sitting, but not these- they came apart easily with stirring. The thinly sliced beef was also perfectly (un)-cooked- and lost its pinkness in the boiling hot broth just as it should. 2.Combo bun (rice vermicelli)- so delicious- the 'meatloaf' (some might call it casserole) made of mushroom rice vermicelli and ground pork topped with a lovely egg yolk wash was such a nice surprise! It was beautifully sliced into a diamond shape. I have never seen it on a bun bowl at any other pho place in San Diego! It was so tender and full of delicious complex flavor. The egg rolls were perfectly crispy and the roast chicken was tender and moist. The shrimp were perfectly cooked also. And to top it all off, or rather, bottom it all - were the extra fresh crispy greens and sprouts underneath the noodles and proteins. I got the P2. Pho Dac Biet (Pho Special). This is the combination pho that includes filet mignon, brisket, tendon, and tripe. The brisket was super tender, tendon was nice and chewy and the tripe was perfectly springy. The soup was also super clear and very flavorful. Best of all, this is also super reasonably priced. I go to different Vietnamese restaurants for different things, because each one seems to have one or two menu items that stand out from the others. In the case of Pho Kitchen, I go for either Mi bo koa or Pho bo koa, simply depending on which kind of noodle (egg or rice, respectively) I'm in the mood for at the moment. At Pho Kitchen, the broth of this soupy "stew" is really wonderful, with a delicious, rich blend of spices augmenting a hearty beef flavor. The texture of the aromatic broth is just right, too. And the various large chunks of meat have been cooked long enough that you can easily tear into them without a struggle, something that can be reason for disappointment at other places. This is a very, very satisfying bowl. Another item that I sometimes come here to get is pho bo vien. At Pho Kitchen, this soup has a mild yet very savory beef broth and comes with a generous number of those tasty little Vietnamese-style meatballs. Delightful. This is a small restaurant in a strip mall near the trolley in the Morena neighborhood, just south of Linda Vista. The place is well-kept and service is reasonably brisk. read more

Flavors good. Broth well seasoned, but maybe lacking some body... probably beef bouillon or something to give it the depth. The issue I had was how the menu is laid out. I've been fortunate enough to eat all the good pho places in all of San Diego for nearly two decades and each and everytime I order the Lg #1 its a beef with all the varied cuts: filet, tendon, tripe, brisket, etc. My large $15 bowl came packed with noodles and maybe 5 thin slices of filet. When I brought the issue up to the server with my 1/4 eaten bowl, he said I didn't read the menu right. I'll give them three stars instead of two for my misstep there, but what the heck... get with the times... most of us are now aware that filet is a cheaper fatless and therefore flavorless cut. I don't want a bowl full (and shoot, the 2.5 oz thin cut you served is hardly a portion) of that. Maybe 15 years ago when the public was duped into thinking fat was the enemy was this bowl desireable, but today, we are smarter as a society. Also... Who the heck doesn't have the #1 on their menu not as the combination beef? Booooooooooo... I like pho because of the nutritional aspects of a good bone broth and its varied meats.
