Not as awesome as the original Pho Lena, but pretty good. I came here, though it's out of my way, because I had a Groupon. The place is small, but recently remodeled with a big-screen television and a smattering of booths and chairs. It can get really super cold when the front door opens and sends a blast of chilly air, so be prepared if you're in the direct path. I was disappointed a little with my vegetarian curry, because it was not like I had remembered. At the other Pho Lena, it was much thicker and had cashews instead of peanuts (ick). Peanuts in a yellow curry just doesn't taste right, and it was full of them. They were also out of squash (the best part of it!) but the waitress explained how they buy everything fresh the day of, and that they had run out. I thought it was pretty cool that they have such fresh stock. And, speaking of the waitress, while she's the only one, she's very nice and helpful. I love Pho Lena for take out and dining-in. I am a die-hard Panang Red Curry girl, and this place always delivers. I never stray from that, however usually when I'm there I see people eating soup. I'm assuming, therefore, that the soups are good since it's obviously selling. There are many more options here that I haven't explored; the menu is extensive. My husband had the ribs and liked them. Didn't rave, but liked them. The curry dishes have a dangerous kick of spice, which is what you should be looking for if you're choosing cuisine from this region. The hostess here is super friendly, and your food is typically ready in about 10 minutes. The dining room is small and very casual, but updated and clean. Pho was good and a pretty good size. They have offer a larger one if you're a bigger eater so that's good. I like spicy food and the hot sauce is REALLY spicy so just beware how much you add! The waiter must've been new he forgot our spoons and sprouts but he's really nice. Pretty satisfied! Ever since moving to Anchorage Pho Lena has been a favorite and frequently visited restaurant for my husband and I. We live their food and supporting a small local business. Sunday was unfortunately the last time we will do business with them. I understand things are hard during thing time of social restrictions but last weekend we ordered a delivery order and after an hour of waiting I called to see what the delay was, I was told 10 minutes more, then it would be ready for pick up. Thirty minutes later I called again and was told 10 more minutes. I understand they were busy, at least that's what I was told, but two hours is not 10 minutes and I would've just appreciated honesty. Now I will no longer be a customer there. read more

This review can be summarized with just one word: gross. When I lived in Anchorage, I was a regular patron of both Pho Lenas. The Pho Lena in Spenard was always my favorite, but the east location was closer to home, and always worth visiting. Things have clearly changed. On a recent trip home I had lunch here with a handful of friends. The service was ATROCIOUS. Inattentive, rude, and just totally uncaring and unhelpful. I can handle this if the food is good, but that was really the biggest problem with this meal. The food wasn't just bad, it was gross. Out of the five people at our table, only one had a satisfactory meal. All of the rest were, as I said, not just bad, but gross. My vegetarian pappardelle had a handful of previously frozen (and clearly freezer burnt -- hard, dry, wrinkly) peas and some canned straw mushrooms. THOSE WERE THE ONLY VEGETABLES ON MY PLATE. When the dish arrived, I asked the guy who delivered it to double check that the noodles didn't have something I'm allergic to in them. He was rude about it and he never came back. When our server returned at almost the end of our meal to ask how things were, I told her that they weren't very good. She said 'Ok' and turned around and left. We tried futilely for about fifteen minutes to get our check. When the credit card slips came back, there was an error. After about ten more minutes of trying to get her attention and failing, we just gave up and left. I've had many good meals here in the past, but this one was so unacceptable that I won't ever go back. read more

Tiny restaurant in old building. Clean tables. Clean enough bathroom. Ambiance is not this restaurant's strong suit but it is comfortable enough; although it would be better if it had more than two or three booths. Booths are more comfortable and they feel more private in a small space. Despite only two tables with patrons when we entered, no one brought us menus. After several minutes of waiting without being acknowledged, we got up and retrieved our own menus. Friendly enough server finally approached us with water and to take our order, although she didn't seem overly interested in us at first. She grew friendlier as time went on. Good menu that included vegetarian choices. We were not interested in the seafood combos that contained fake crab and were disappointed the dish we were interested in contained it. First dish was delivered at least five minutes before the next, and we were provided two forks to eat off the one plate together. We had to ask for plates so we could each eat off of our own, and then we were provided tiny little appetizer plates instead of dinner plates! At least five minutes later, the other two dishes we'd ordered were brought to our table. Fresh spring rolls okay, but we didn't taste the Thai basil that was supposedly in them. The vegetables in them were crispy, but they were bland. I prefer more peanut in my chili sauce for spring rolls. Vegetable dish was okay, but one of the seasonings tasted a little too strong. I'm not sure which it was. Whatever it was put me off the dish a little. I sort of liked it, but something about it turned me off at the same time. The vegetables had nice crunch though, and I was craving vegetables, so I ate it anyway. Curry dish was good. Phad Thai was too strong and oily. Given how thirsty I was later and how swollen my hands were, the meal was too salty. I look for Asian food restaurants that do not use so much salt and MSG (which is salty) for our return business, and they Are out there. Pho Lena East was just so-so, but worth giving it another shot if we happen to be nearby when we are hungry. I wouldn't travel across town for it though. read more

While the food at Pho Lena is pretty good, the prices (for portions) and service leaves me wanting. The Pho bowls are nice and the Thai food is really good, but here are my frustrations: 1. All 3 times I have been to this location they have messed up my order... they are nice about trying to fix it, but the most recent time came with quite a bit of attitude from the girl who helped me. 2. Now to the prices... Anchorage is a little more expensive, but for the amount of food you are given (like HALF filling a container), their prices need to go down... 11 dollars for about 1.5 cups of curry is NOT cool and 1/2 filling the containers of other dishes: it doesn't make sense. read more

Great noodle dishes and curries! I really like the Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, and every curry I've tried. The Pad Thai could have just a little more sauce, but is otherwise excellent with plenty of protein and noodles that hold their shape. The Pad Kee Mao is wonderful, and if you ask for spicy they'll certainly oblige. Curries are great with a good balance of sauce and solids. They always include plenty of rice. I've actually never eaten in, as I live just down the road, but the atmosphere looks nice and clean. read more

We have always loved Pho Lena's but the new, East location (next to Bingo parlor) is a Great venue for dates (we spend All of ours here) and they have a group/party room (please feel free to invite us to check this space out with you ;)) I never knew I could become addicted to curry but here I am, 33 years old and suffering withdrawls from 3 days curry-free! First off, you need to know that they have the Best Fresh Rolls in Anchorage! Great crunch, super taste, generously sized, and very inexpensive! We have been eating out in Anchorage for decades and have often invented excuses to find ourselves on the West side so that we can stop in at Pho Lena's, so it was with some excitement and trepidation that we first stopped in at Pho Lena East. Suffice it to say that as Eastsiders, we are now regulars. Great food that is so inexpensive it is almost embarrasing, wonderful service, and the acoustics are much better than at Pho Lena's One since they moved to the old Pizza Hut :-( Papaya Salad is hot, crisp, and palate cleansing. Seafood Hotpot is undoubtedly the best bargain in town - enough for 4 people easily with a nice variety of seafood, plenty of straw mushrooms, and a robust and spicy broth. Pho is great, the variety of noodles and choices dazzling, and the helpings huge. My favorite is Tom Yum. Drunken Noodles are not buried in sauce - just right. Stuffed Chicken Wings are to die for. Pad Thai as good as any in town. I could go on, but you get the point. read more

This is one of our favorite places to eat. We go there at least once every couple months and get a bowl of pho. We always crave it when we haven't had it for awhile and we have to get our fix. My favorite appetizer is the stuffed chicken wings. A best friend had brought me there about 6 years ago when I was severly hungover and I tell you what, it is amazing when you are that miserable lol. I am a vegan and ordered the 38. which is pho veggie with apparently veggie broth. It wasn't vegan because they used chicken broth. I know this because my friend tasted it and he said it tasted like chicken broth. Another reason why I knew this wasn't a veggie broth is that I was extremely sick afterwards. I haven't eaten meat for 7 years and my body is not used to meat products. This lost my trust to Pho Lena east. I will never be coming back again for not only because of the false advertisement of a product but also because of the rude service that I was received as well. read more

I had purchased a Groupon the first time I came here and I enjoyed the Curry chicken and sesame chicken and enjoyed the sweet waitress, however the 2nd time I went back the owner told me I wasn't welcome there and was sure it was me and I told him I had only been there 1 other time and he stood there and argued with me about I don't even know what but I told him I could take my money somewhere else and he must have me confused with someone else because I left a generous tip the first time and I never expected to be humiliated and embarrassed coming back. This spot was highly recommended by a friend, so we met her there and tried a number of dishes. I have been sorely missing the Pho Saigon that was located at Dimond Mall and had gone months without finding a new pho spot. This pho is different for sure, but not at all in a bad way. The broth has a much sweeter finish which really paired nicely with the chili oil and sambal that I added. I went with the beef brisket and meatball and the bowl was fully loaded! Tasted a bit of everyone's dish (udon soup, curry noodles, fried rice, papaya salad, broccoli beef stir-fry) and had no complaints. The new location has a bunch of seating and is nice and clean. We will be back for sure especially when the cold weather moves in. read more
