This has been one of our to go to places for pho noodles for several years. Even before the pandemic their noodles and other dishes have been consistently good. The owners seem to be new post pandemic and the father and son team running the place seem to be much nicer and accommodating than the people that were there before. I often buy your "fresh" shrimp spring rolls with extra peanut sauce. Over the years you've reduced the quantity and quality of this sauce, necessitating that I order extra sauce. Stopped here for lunch since the other place I wanted to eat at was closed. My party and I were seated promptly and our orders taken quickly. I ordered the #1pho since I wanted the meatballs. In less that 10 minutes our pho's were delivered to the table. For a large size, the bowl looked like a regular bowl size. The beef steak, rare beef, meatball, tendon, and tripe were all good in taste. I found the broth to be less flavorful from my usual place. It also had lots of noodles in it. More than I could finish. This is a good pho place to eat at, if you are shopping for groceries and want to get a fast lunch. read more

We just had pho lunch here-- first time in maybe ten years!! The pho is just as I remembered, very authentic, fresh and tasty. The problem is that their pho would set your standard really high. It'll be hard to find a place that matches theirs, especially in Marin! My memory of their service before was not favorable, but it seemed better today. They were at least smiling! The nearby Pho Saigon is still not accepting indoor dining. When I came across this other Pho Saigon, I was ecstatic to find out that their indoor dining is open. We drove a bit but it was worth it. Their broth is awesome! Their servings are great. They may be typical for others, but it's soup weather. Pho is the perfect Fall-Winter food. I'm glad they accept indoor dining. Of course, we still wear our masks, social distance away from other tables, and bring our own sanitizers/wet wipes. Their servers are all masked. The good thing about our visit was their Vietnamese Hot Coffee. It came with the proper toys. My husband is addicted to using their toys. LOL We will definitely go back here. Plenty of parking. I wasn't too pleased with the level of service, we had ordered food to go and was told it would take about 15 minutes but we we had waiting about 30 minutes to receive our order. Also, my wife had ordered durian boba, but was told they didn't have durian when she checked in several minutes later to find out the status of her order, so i'm not sure why they didn't tell my wife on the spot they didn't have durian. Instead, my wife opted for their avocado boba. The boba balls seemed overcooked, it didn't have that chewy consistency. The grilled pork rice plate was satisfying, nicely marinated with a generous layer of rice and a side of fish sauce. The egg rolls were crunchy and contained a fair amount of ground pork, it tasted even better dipped in more fish sauce. Sure, I'd do this place again for quick bite, but next time I'd probably put in an order, go shopping at 99 Ranch, and by the time I'm done shopping it'll be ready for pick up. I don't know if anyone else watches "Modern Family", but there was a hilarious scene where Cameron and Mitchell bring their adopted Vietnamese baby to see a doctor who just happens to be Japanese-American. The more effusive Cameron was blathering on about how they are raising their baby with Asian art and that there was a great pho place just around the corner. He asks the all-business doctor, "Now am I pronouncing that right? Is it 'fuhh'?". The doctor responds deadpan, "I don't know. We didn't have much 'fuhh' in Denver." Classic. Pho Saigon is a 'fuhh' place in that bastion of East Bay Asiania, the Pacific East Mall. Oh yes, I had never been to the mall before yesterday since I was expecting live chickens in rattan baskets and rubber boots to avoid the donkey droppings. But no, it's a spacious mall with lots of East Asian eateries. I was looking for something quick, and here is where I landed (see photos). It ain't pretty, heavily dominated by formica and fluorescent lights, and the service is on the brusque side, but that's what you get for good cheap pho. I went for the $5.95 medium combo beef bowl - the Tai Nam, Gau, Gan, Sach - which translates to rare steak, well-done flank, brisket, tendon and tripe - all swimming in a beef broth with skinny noodles and of course, bean sprouts, peppers and basil as the standard garnishes (see photo). It was not exceptional, but it was filling and flavorful enough for the price. I really like that you can get in and out of there in under twenty minutes because table turnover is a priority in there. Besides, you know you need to spend some serious time at 99 Ranch anyway for some a la carte dim sum. Now am I pronouncing that right? Is it 'deem sum'? Phô Saigon is a typically ordinary Vietnamese restaurant well suited for the blue collar lunch crowd that comes in. My dad ordered chicken soup with rice noodles which he thought was "plain, but ok." My Phô beef combo bowl was also "ok," but the beef did not come out rare. I've had much tastier and deeper Phô broth at many other Vietnamese restaurants. This was a bit thin and cloudy. The deep fried Spring rolls were huge, about twice the size of any I've seen. Taste-wise, quantity did not beat quality. There was too much skin and not enough everything else. Service was also typical, with unsmiling staff that don't check up on you or even bother to give you the bill when you attempt to wave them down. It's ok for convenience if you happen to be shopping at Ranch 99, but there are better restaurants in the mall, and better Vietnamese/Phô places in the area. read more

We were craving pho, so we decided to try the Pho Saigon at the same mall as Ranch 99. We have wanted to try this place for awhile and it always seems so busy. We arrived and were seated right away. We decided on the Rare Beef Pho with a side order of Rare Steak and the Seafood Pho. Both were very good. The side order of beef is for the second half of your soup bowl and want some more rare steak. I love all the add ons. Lots of sprouts, basil, jalapeños and the cilantro was a nice addition. I normally go here after dragon boat practice in Alameda, since it's on the way back to Davis. From the front of Pacific East, the restaurant is located in the back left, near the bathrooms. I'm a pretty harsh critic on Vietnamese food, since I get spoiled at home all the time. I'd have to say that food here is really meh. I've had their Pho, Hu Tieu Dac Biet (Special Rice Noodle Soup), and Hu Tieu Bo Kho (Rice Noodle Beef Stew). Nothing here that I've had is really worth talking about in depth. Pho: Okay. Broth is somewhat watery. Portions seem smaller than other places. I normally ask for leek in oil to add. Hu Tieu bowls: No flavor in the soup, or it's really watered down. I can't tell. Service is okay. Everything comes out pretty fast and I haven't had trouble with people not refilling water or whatever. Maybe it's because I can talk to them in Vietnamese... Anyways, this isn't the best place for pho by far, but it's still pho. Pho normally sounds good after you've been in the water for ~4 hours. If you're in Pac East and want pho, this is the only place to go (unless you want to drive somewhere else) read more

Pretty standard Vietnamese fare! It's located near the back of a small Asian plaza, and has lots of tables so we were seated right away. The service is really quick to the point of feeling a little rushed--within a few minutes of us sitting down they were by to take our orders, and the food followed shortly after. No complaints though, since we were looking for a quick bite anyway. The waiter is a little curt but more in an efficient rather than unfriendly way. The food itself was also pretty okay, not my favorite I've ever had but hits the spot if you're craving some pho. Portion sizes were as expected, not too big and not too small, and prices were really cheap (~$8 for a bowl of pho) which was great! 1. Prawn Rolls: You get two large rolls, each cut in half, so four pieces total. It's loaded with vegetables, meat, prawns, and noodles. The roll itself tasted fine, though it was a little dryer and stickier than I expected. I really liked the peanut sauce it came with, which was super flavorful and nutty. 2. #6 Beef Pho: I was too hungry so I forgot to take a picture (oops) but it looked like your standard bowl of pho! A decent amount of meat and the broth was flavorful. The bean sprouts and basil that come with it were all very fresh. All in all, probably isn't my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the area, but good enough that I would come back to grab a quick bite if I'm nearby. read more

The light broth that warms your insides. And the yummy chewy noodles to fill your growling tummy. I like the option of having my noodles in either a medium or large bowl, for those certain days when I'm famished. Call me crazy, but I like my rice noodles stir-fried. So normally, I get the egg noodles instead of pho. I grew up eating wonton noodle soup, so I have this special affinity for it...I'm so Chinese. I had the seafood egg noodle soup ($6 something for a medium-sized bowl). With my noodles were imitation crab, fish cakes, shrimp, and calamari (?). YUM! Like most Asian restaurants, there is a variety of condiments readily available on each table. Also, the cleanliness...my coworker noticed that her water "glass" had residue left on the rim...Ewww. Thank goodness for straws (you have to request them). I also noticed the little dishes for dipping sauces are not of good condition. The design is peeling off. I would hate to accidentally ingest it. Another aspect of the restaurant that is typical of Asian eateries is that they only accept cash, so bring your cash (there are ATMs inside the plaza) and your empty stomach! read more

Pho Saigon Restaurant 2 is your typical Vietnamese restaurant. Bright lighting, mismatched silverware to non-existent service. But I expected all of that when my friends and I ate here after a long day of rafting at the American River. I had the rice plate with grilled pork and a mini bowl of broth. The grilled pork was tender at some parts while dry and chewy at other parts. I believe they also marinate their pork with ginger which I'm not a fan of because the ginger would overpower the entire dish. The taste of ginger was quite strong and I had to douse my pork and rice with lots of fish sauce to get the ginger flavors to calm down. My friends liked their noodle soups and finished them up fast. I should have had the noodle soups instead but oh wells, next time. Service here is super fast in which after we ordered, the food arrived within 5 minutes. Something cute I noticed about the restaurant was that on the wall are three exact paintings of a beach. Honestly, I wanted to try Sichuan Fusion first but there was such a long line on President's Day evening that we ended up here because my brother was "starving." Some things were hit and miss, but my own dish was pretty amazing. Details below: FOOD #3 COMBO PHO: pretty standard dish that we usually order at a pho restaurant. I expect the usual brisket, tripe, beef balls, etc. in our bowls. Got all of that except beef balls. The broth was average. What really surprised me was the size...at "medium" it was small at the best! I can get a bigger and more delicious bowl of pho in Concord and Brentwood, surprisingly. My mother was not impressed. 3/5 stars #43 PORK CHOP OVER RICE: pork chop, shredded pork, and crab cake over rice. The pork chop was well marinated, however a bit over-BBQ'ed as it was a bit tough to chew. Shredded pork was on the drier side. The crab cake was a funky combo of imitation crab, fish paste, and egg. My brother enjoyed the pork chop, but will opt for the fried egg combo next time instead of the crab cake. 3/5 stars BBQ BEEF VERMICELLI: My favorite dish here that we ordered! So glad I opted for this instead of a pho bowl. Large pieces of BBQ beef are wrapped around giant chunks of green onion, kind of like pigs in a blanket. You not only get a nice smoky flavor, but the green onions really kicked it up a notch. I've never seen beef cooked like that and now I think all vermicelli bowls should use this format. The noodles and veggies were fresh too. I like to mix the sweet sauce they provide with Siracha for a sweet n' spicy noodle dish. 5/5 stars DRINKS / DESSERTS THREE BEAN DRINK: my brother got this on a whim, thinking it was "drink," but this was more of a dessert. Chunks of green jelly, red bean, and sweet potato/yam were mixed with shredded coconut, ice, and milk. It was very sweet but I liked the consistency of the beans and coconut. But I could have skipped the potato part because it was overly starchy and made this too rich. Next time we'll try a boba smoothie or Thai iced tea. 3/5 stars Next time I come back, I'll try more vermicelli bowls and different rice plates. There were plenty of tables and was seated immediately so service was prompt. The waiter kinda assumed we were ready to order even though we received the menus like a minute ago. Everything felt rushed. We both ordered #2: Dac Biet which came with brisket, tendon, tripe, etc. We were quite impressed by how fast the food came out, which was in less than 5 minutes. The Pho wasn't too bad. The noodles had a soft texture, but the quality of meat seem to be lacking. Most of the beef was thinly sliced and to be honest, it wasn't good. The broth was also mediocre as well. I usually try not to put sauces in my noodle soups but I doused mine in hoisin sauce. From previous visits, nothing changed or improved; it was just A-ok. The noodle was over cooked and the chicken breast must have been frozen then heat up to order, making it the driest chicken I ever had!
