Pho San Jose - 1696 Tully Rd, San Jose This large, charming restaurant was absolutely not worth the visit for us! There was no line when we arrived for Saturday lunch, but don't let that fool you. The staff was friendly, moved quickly, and made the ordering process fast and efficient. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. Bún Riêu: This was the biggest disappointment. The broth tasted more like tomato paste than a proper bún riêu broth. A good bún riêu should have a stronger crab and shrimp paste flavor, but that was almost completely missing. There was also no pig blood, and many of the main ingredients were missing. Every bite made me wonder, Is this really bún riêu? Hủ Tiếu Khô: Even more disappointing. It was missing liver, heart, squid, and ground pork. The noodles were mushy, and the dish was extremely salty. The side soup was also very salty. Phở San Jose Đặc Biệt: Just okay--not the best pho, especially for the price. Rice plate: Average. The rice was a little too dry, and the dish was also quite greasy. Payment: Convenient--they accept cash and credit cards, although there is an extra fee for credit card payments. Overall, the service was friendly and efficient, but the food did not meet our expectations at all. We would not recommend this restaurant and would not return.

I went to this new pho restaurant. I ended up ordering the dry version of hu tieu. I enjoyed it since my noodles were coated in sauce. The sugarcane juice was so refreshing. I kept sipping on it, and before I knew it, it was empty. I was totally tempted to order another one. The service was good! It seems like to be a future place for the younger crowd to hang out at. I do miss the TV screens to watch sports from when it was Coffee Lovers though.

Newly opened Pho restaurant in San Jose and in their soft opening stages. I must say they're doing a pretty go job on they're soft opening. Large indoor dining area with a large outdoor patio dinning area as well. Plenty of parking in their large parking lot. Lots of servers that were super friendly. And always came and refilled our water. Food was pretty good. Pho was flavorful and meats were tender. Love the fact that they have fresh noodle options. Only complaint was I wish the broth came out piping hot. The spare rib rice dish was a first time trying anywhere like that and it was good. Reminds me of our vietnamese braised pork ribs aka suon kho.

I've been to the first location of Pho San Jose and was super happy to see they were going to open closer to me. Service is super fast and quick, the staff are very attentive and efficient. They bring the same quality flavor to Tully. If you want a richer broth I recommend ordering a side of bone marrow to go with your pho. I got the Pho San Jose which is a favorite of mine and the portion is pretty large. I got super full and each bowl is packed with a lot of meat. The broth is deep and flavorful. I recommend getting a side of the pickled onion to cut the fattiness. Another favorite is the shrimp doughnut, I don't think I've see anywhere else that's done it so we order it when we crave it. The drinks the coffee has that deep richness I always look for in a viet coffee. The banana cream is different here as you taste real banana vs the artificial creams at other places which was a surprise for us. I always look forward to getting my pho fix and what a pleasure to have one closer to us now!

Food 3/5 Service 3/5 Ambiance 5/5 Came to try on a Sunday morning during 2nd week of opening. Not too packed and got a table for 2 fairly quickly. It's a nice place, love the spaciousness. I initially ordered chicken pho, strangely no stock. So I tried the hutieu noodles dry version, it was a little bland for my taste, so I added hoisin and more soy sauce from the table condiments and it tasted much better. I ordered the matcha strawberry coffee and it's delicious. Unfortunately, they were out of Vietnamese coffee too. Had to knock off some points for all the no stock items.

We frequent PSJ location in Berryessa so naturally we want to check out this new location at Tully road. Today is their first soft opening day to the public. This place replaced Coffee Lovers. Our family of 5 ordered pho San Jose, pho tu chon x 2, pho dat biet, hot plate with filet mignon and chicken wings. We also ordered giblets as a side order. For drinks we ordered penny wort with mung beans, penny wort with coconut juice, freshly squeezed orange juice, coconut juice, and ube coffee. We were greeted with a server the minute we sat down. They started us off with water and took our drinks order first while we are still deciding on what to order for food. Moments later a second server came to check in on us. For a soft opening day, I'm surprised they have a lot of help. We put in our food orders and the server did an order read back to ensure everything is correct. The orders got sent instantaneously to the kitchen via the portable electronic system. No chance of the order getting lost or misread. Food came out quickly as ordered. I love the pennywort mung bean drink and my sister in law loves her ube coffee. The boys said the pho broth was clean and tasty comparable to the Berryessa location. My filet mignon hot plate came out looking so beautiful and tasting so delicious. The location is newly renovated with comfortable booth seatings. They even have an area for the kids to play Tumble Tetris. We will be back to try other items on the menu like the rice plates and bun rieu. Also, I want to try more items from their drink menu. I highly recommend this place. Their soft opening hours are 10-3pm everyday except closing on Thursdays.

I had a great experience here with my family. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, the staff was welcoming, and the service was incredibly fast. The pho was flavorful, fresh, and came out hot. You can tell they take pride in both their food and customer service. Highly recommend if you're looking for great pho in San Jose!

Final Thoughts: 2.40/5 New Viet food place that opened up on Tully road. They replaced Coffee Lovers. My friends and I wanted a simple dinner today. This spot is close around here and so we decided to go here. They are still in the soft opening stage, so perhaps a one star isn't quite fair for them. You would really have to give me a terrible experience for that to happen. Will be a 2 stars for today. With some improvements and more training, hoping they'll be alright. Food: Gỏi Cuốn (Spring Rolls): 3.0/5 This is a very interesting case and mix-up. My original order was gỏi cuốn (sping rolls), however, what I received was gỏi cuốn chay (vegetarian spring rolls). Two differences here: 1) the protein and 2) the dipping sauce. For the regular spring rolls, they use shrimp for the protein and include a hoisin peanut dipping sauce. Per their menu, the vegetarian one uses tofu as the protein and has a soy sauce dipping sauce. What I received today was the vegetarian spring rolls combined with the hoisin peanut dipping sauce?? I'm not actually complaining about the dipping sauce because I do like this dipping sauce, but it's just interesting how there was confusion with order and with constructing the dish. The rolls are 90% vegetables, 8% vermicelli, and 2% tofu though, so...yea. Very refreshing for the heat though. Filet Mignon Hot Plate: 2.0/5 Contrary to the description of this item, this plate was served just warm at best? Again, very interesting because the description states "All hot plates served HOT, with baguette (bánh mì), pate, red pork, egg, Vietnamese meatball (xíu mại), tomato, and pickled veggie". The pan looked like it was aluminum and was hardly hot. Not sure where the pickled veggies went. Bread was not my favorite at all. Definitely not bánh mì Đức Hương quality. Flavor was just alright. Meat is tender and mostly already cut up. My recommendation is that it needed more of a sauce component and temperature would be better retained on an iron cast pan. Bò Lúc Lắc (Shaking Beef): 3.0/5 This is their stir fried filet mignon with white rice/red rice. My friend chose red rice today. The rice was quite mushy, even for me who tends to lean more on that side versus a dry rice consistency. The meat was tender enough. Of note, typically the onions and bell pepper or veggies are very caramelized in the sauce. There was 1) no sauce and 2) no caramelization at all. The food did come out fairly quickly, so perhaps the veggies did not have much time was spent on the pan. I'm fine with a raw onion, but I know that's not the typical or preference for a lot of others. Again, this dish could really use some more sauce to it. --------- Quality: Aiight? Their food came out fairly quickly, so I'm not sure. Their veggies are very fresh and has that nice texture to it, which I like. Made or order? Hmm maybe? My spring rolls were fine, but my friend's hot plate really wasn't that "HOT" as emphasized in their menu. Price: Average Prices for the dishes will range from $17 to $21. This seems like average pricing for these dishes within the SJ/Bay Area. For 4 of the vegetarian rolls, it was $10, which is better than other places that give 2 for $8 ish. Given what the dishes were though, the prices seem appropriate. Service: Would benefit with some additional training Definitely still within the training period. One of the waiters was trying to take our order. It took some time to actually find the item and input it. Some clarifying questions needed to be asked, as well. We pointed and said the items multiple times and there was still some miscommunication. Just by the looks of my dish, you can tell there was some miscommunication on multiple levels. My order was for the "regular" spring rolls with the shrimp and hoisin peanut dipping sauce. What I received was the vegetarian spring rolls with hoisin dipping sauce. If it was a mix up with the spring rolls, then it should have been with a soy sauce dipping sauce instead of the hoisin sauce. Customer service wise though, they are quite nice, but again, could benefit from some training. So interesting that it took like 3 people coming out to serve us our food, but was so difficult to get some to bring us the check. My friend did end up just going up to the front counter to pay. Ambiance: Spacious Interior is huge. Very standard Vietnamese restaurant. Lots of seating and tables inside. They do have booth seats and regular tables/seats. My preferences is always the booth seats, but they let us choose. Location/Parking: Not the best location This location is right on Tully Road and I actually can't say it's the best location. Getting out can be kind of a nightmare, but there is the option to go out onto King Road, which may be slightly better. There's parking in the back and doesn't seem to be super crowded, so fair space. Will have some tighter turns though, so just a caution.

Been a regular to Pho San Jose since the beginning at their first location and now that this one is down the street from me, I'm excited to come here daily for lunch. I think I've been here everyday or so it feels like. First the decor is different from their first location, so it's a breath of fresh air. I love the giant store front sign, you can see it from afar. The Hermes orange booths really pop and ties everything together. The giant chandeliers are like ufos hovering over your head and the artificial turf in the play area is a nice touch. They have artificial trees inside and out with a mix of real plants which I love. Don't get me started on the fish tank, it's made of what looks like bulletproof glass and looks amazing, I seen them add more fishes today. The service was fast and quick, was greeted right away as I walked in, got a seat and as I was waiting for my friend I got to sit and enjoy the fish tank. I ordered a thai tea and the server asked what level of sweetness I wanted it at; rarely do I get asked that at asian food restaurants. The food came out quick and the broth piping hot. Now to the food. My go to item is the Pho San Jose with a side of bone marrow, I like a fatty pho. The last few times I decided to change my orders because I plan to try all the new items at least once. The nui xao bo was really good, the pasta was cooked right, the meat was tender, and the sauce had a balance of sweet and salty. The egg-rolls and springs rolls were fresh as usual and the shrimp filled donuts are one of a kind, you can't find it anywhere else. They're still in the soft opening phase so of course there are kinks that need to be ironed out so people should be more understanding towards the young staff. Like the sign I seen at the store "be a buddy, not a bully".

I understand it's a soft opening right now, but I hope the management will take my review as supportive feedback. I hope to return another time to improvements! I liked how the place was decorated/renovated compared to what it was previously. The tables/booths were placed with more thought and there was a nice aquarium to look at instead of the kitchen. We were greeted by staff upon arrival, but other than that and taking our orders, no one checked in on us and we always had to wave for attention or water. It's not a good look when there are 5+ employees chatting with each other at the register when customers are in need. The drinks were so sweet that I had to water mine down a bit. I loved the spring rolls and thought they were reasonably priced. The sprouts were yellow, not fresh, and came out...warm for some reason..? That was a first for me. The Bún thịt nướng was delicious, but had clumps of fried onion that were almost impossible to chew. I ordered the variety pho bowl with fatty brisket, tendon, and bone marrow. The broth lacked a lot of spice and flavor that other restaurants in San Jose have. The fatty brisket was fine and the tendon was a little too firm for my liking. I was really excited to see bone marrow as an option for my bowl. The first bite of it was nice and buttery. The second bite, however, was straight. up. GAMEY. I was mortified. The taste was so strong that I INSTANTLY lost my appetite and didn't bother to finish the rest of my bowl, which was basically half! The cherry on top was the lady behind me cracking so much pepper into her bowl that the whole restaurant could hear LOL Lots to improve, but hope this place can step it up!

Enter through the front entrance of the Grand Century Mall, turn left and make your way down the hall to the food court. Among the colorful array of food shops, is a bright green shop that is Nuoc Mia Ninh Kieu where a silvery machine to the left is seen squeezing out sugarcane juice! I shouldn't say that I hate carrots -- that's unbecoming of me -- but I strongly dislike carrots. This is one of the only ways I would enjoy carrots: nuoc mia ca-rot! I rarely order anything else from here but I would encourage you to explore their menu and come back for more! Nuoc mia ca-rot has a wonderful blend of mild earthiness of the carrot and the grassy undertones of sweetness from the sugarcane. It takes the edge off of what would otherwise be a very sweet drink! I would much prefer nuoc mia over boba milk tea (particularly on hot, summer days!). Sugarcane juice is a bit pricey here, but I chalk it up to this is a specialty shop just for nuoc mia which lends a certain nostalgia for Vietnam. There are versions of the drink here that you can't get anywhere else. If you want to experience a taste of Vietnamese culture, Nuoc Mia Ninh Kieu is a great place to start! Try them out!

RANG Final…read moreThoughts: 4.50/5 Review for Rang. They have weekly matcha pop ups at Rose Tea Lounge. Original location is in Elk Grove, but they are here in San Jose area. Kind of hard to see and find them? given that there aren't really any signs posted outside. I perhaps wouldn't have known about it if my friend didn't tell me about it. Drink: Guava Matcha Einspanner: 4.5/5 This is their matcha with house-made guava puree at the bottom and topped with silky guava foam. Their foam is so nice and creamy. Felt very light and just thick enough. Silky consistency that mixed well with the drink. My friend noted that they make it fairly sweet, so I opted for the 25%. This was still quite sweet for me. Each component is sweet itself, so when you combine it, its mostly just sweet. No tartness to cut any of it. Perhaps the guava has something to do with that. Guava is a sweet fruit in general, so I seemed to expect as much. The matcha itself had a nice color to it. Very vibrant. Light bitterness. Lovely consistency overall. I like each component separately and I like them together when it's fully combined. Strawberry Matcha Einspanner: 4.5/5 This was my friends drink and I also really liked it. Had to try it for my review purposes. Per their Door Dash description, this is their matcha latte with their home-made strawberry puree and topped with velvety strawberry foam. There really wasn't much of a difference with this one and mine besides the fruit. His was slightly more tart than mine, which is something I like. Again, the drink itself leans more on the sweet side, so any sort of tartness would be nice to cut some of that. Matcha color is amazing. Nice and vibrant. Lovely silky consistency. I like the ratio of fruit flavor and matcha. Some places will make it just taste like milk, others have an imbalance of flavors. This one was just right for me. --------- Quality: Ceremonial Matcha and whisked to order We saw them whisk the matcha to order. Not really a display cooking kind of counter, but they do do all of that in the front where the cashiers are. You are able to watch if you so choose. I do like the matcha that they use, so it seems like a high quality one. That or it's because they aren't batching their matcha like other places. I understand that batching doesn't make it lower quality, but something about whisking it fresh is always better. Price: Average Will depend on the drink, but the prices are around $7 to $9. For our drinks, average around $8.25 per drink. Quite a common price range for a cup of matcha. This one was made well, so no complaints here. There was no upcharge for the oatmilk, which is always a plus for us. Service: Whisked matcha fresh No interactions today. We ordered directly on the kiosk and then just waited for our drinks to come out. Something that I like is that they whisk and make the matcha in front of us. Kind of hard to see, given my height and spot that we were standing, but they do whisk it in the front for us. Of note, they use this hand towel or cloth to wipe the bowls. Not sure how sanitation does with that, but I digress. Just an observation for today. Ambiance: Quaint Flower Café Vibes This place is giving very quaint flower café vibes. I would totally work here if I could work from home or if I needed to study. Space is incredibly spacious on the inside contrary to how the outside and plaza area is looking. Little dim lit inside, but that might be from the little lighting that's hitting through the windows given the angle and evening sun. Location/Parking: Small Plaza This place is like a pop-up/collaboration with Rose Tea Lounge. There's really no label for it outside of the storefront, but when you go into the café and on the kiosk, you can directly order from them. Kind of interesting how it works and I probably would have never seen it if my friend didn't bring me here. Location is not the best as it is right in a smaller plaza on the side of Story Road near the 101 freeway. At least they chose an area that is slightly less saturated. Vietnam Town is really close by and they really do have too much going on over there sometimes. Parking lot is also small, but it seems to work well with the smaller plaza size.

I remembered Hien Khanh Dakao opened recently and decided to stop by. The inside of the shop is small, though the seating arrangement inside looked roomy with bar seating against the window, tables, and even a bench. The decor and ambiance were very floral and inviting as well. The shop was completely empty when I arrived aside from a lady behind the counter who appeared to be eager to take my order. Since soursop is somewhat hard to find on a menu anywhere, I decided to order the Soursop Snowhite under blended drinks (I'm not sure if the misspelling was intentional or not). This was one of the two most expensive items on the menu and came out to $10.95 after tax, which is quite pricey for a simple smoothie without anything added to make the price justifiable. My drink was ready in about five minutes. If I had to guess, the cup size used was 16 oz with overflow in the cap. The drink had the soursop flavor I was hoping for and the texture was thick, but fortunately not overly thick that it was hard to suck out of a straw. However, I only noticed smalls bits of soursop as if only a small amount of real fruit was used and the rest of the flavoring was artificial or filler. For $10.95 I was definitely expecting more in terms of quality and I felt ripped off getting this smoothie. Perhaps I should've played it safe and ordered a che dessert or one of their special drinks. I'm not sure if Hien Khanh Dakao gets busy during peak dining hours or on weekends, but I could see why I was the only customer during the time of my visit. I think I would've had a better experience if the pricing was not much higher than drinks from other businesses in Vietnam Town. I think I'll purchase a drink from one of the many other competing drink spots the next time I'm in the area.

Upon first glance at the menu, it really reminded me of Bambu haha. I was debating back and forth on a few drinks. Eventually the cashier recommended the Longan Jelly Delight, so I went with that! This drink consists of longan, grass jelly, pandan jelly, basil seeds, coconut meat, and coconut juice. They did not skimp on the toppings at all and the jelly here was sooo soft! Compared to bambu (they have a similar drink to this), I'd say this is a lot less sweet, which I prefer! Not too much seating though, so we just grabbed it to go :) Overall, I had a good experience here. If I was having dinner in Vietnam Town, I'd grab this again for dessert!

My aunt brought me to Trung Nguyen Legend and I was so glad to try it out. We came by on a weekend so parking in the plaza was ridiculous as expected. The cafe itself has seating inside and outside on a covered patio. There wasn't too long of a wait to order or for our drinks to be ready. I got the iced Viet egg coffee. So yummy! Very strong as Vietnamese coffee usually is. Perfect caffeine level to bring on the drive from the Bay down to SoCal. If you are looking for an egg coffee that's on the stronger side, I would definitely recommend Trung Nguyen Legend. When I'm back in town, I'm for sure going to stop by to get my fix.

I was honestly shocked by my recent experiences here. Last…read moreweek, my mom came by twice--once on a weekday and once on the weekend. Even though the shop was nearly empty, she had to wait at least 15-20 minutes on the weekday and almost 45 minutes on the weekend just for coffee and bread. That kind of wait time is simply unacceptable. What surprised me even more was that every time I visited, there were only 2-3 employees working. This is a well-known coffee shop, yet it feels severely understaffed. In the U.S., customers value their time, and any business should understand that. If you consistently make people wait this long, don't expect them to keep coming back. The drinks used to be one of the reasons I loved this place. They weren't the absolute best in San Jose, but they were good enough that I kept returning. Unfortunately, the quality has noticeably declined. One day the coffee is overly bitter, another day it's overly sweet. The taste is inconsistent from visit to visit, which tells me there is little quality control. I'm extremely disappointed. This used to be one of my favorite coffee shops, but the way it's being run now makes it feel like customer experience is no longer a priority. Long wait times, inconsistent drinks, and chronic understaffing are not what I expect from a business with this reputation.

When I came in to place my order, the female employee who took my order seemed very unfriendly and had a noticeably unpleasant attitude. I understand that everyone can have a bad day or may be dealing with something in their personal life, so I tried not to take it personally. However, I ended up waiting about 20 minutes for just one small bánh mì. After waiting that long, I finally went up to ask about my order. Only then did the employee hand it to me. Apparently, my order had already been ready for quite some time, but no one bothered to call my number or let me know. Waiting is understandable when a restaurant is busy, but having a completed order sitting there while the customer continues waiting is very frustrating. Combined with the unfriendly attitude and poor customer service, this was a very disappointing experience. Good customer service is not just about making the food--it is also about communicating with customers and treating them with basic courtesy. I really hope the management provides better customer service training moving forward.
