Egg rolls came out burnt and had a weird flavor to them. Nước chấm was ok. 2) Phở gà- chicken was very thinly sliced and it came in a beef broth versus a chicken broth 3) Gỏi cuốn- little protein and a ton of veggies Our friend ordered a vegetarian pho (is there such a a thing?!) that had tofu, green cabbage & broccoli. Stumbled upon this spot for a late lunch and was very pleased. The workers were all friendly and attentive which was a great first impression. The food came out quickly and hot. I ordered the #9 rare beef and brisket pho with a side of egg rolls. Everything was delicious and a large bowl of pho was literally less than $13!! I finished all that up and was satisfied. The gentleman at the front desk took my name over the phone. upon arrival there was around 13 people waiting for their food and a lot of confusion because no orders had names. i had to repeat the order several times because he was trying to listen to mine and another persons. once getting home we realized that some of the food was missing. went to the restaurant to receive the food and a refund for the inconvenience. the man didn't want to give us the food. would have rather just gave money and sent us on our way. then when we arrived home with the food around the half way point was a long hair in the food. restaurant is very inconsistent with the service and food they give out is not worth the price point in my opinion. will not be coming back. read more

Came here with my family and ate on the patio since our dog was with us. We usually go to the Lake Forest location, but Thanh Binh ALWAYS hits the spot regardless of what city it's in. We don't even need to look at the menu anymore! The calamari is a must-order, and the pho is the best around. Been passing by this place for awhile now and decided to try. The place looks outdated. The cushion in the seats were ripped up and was a bit grossed out to sit on it. We had questions regarding the menu items and all his answers toward us seemed a bit defensive and almost not willing to listen although he answered everything truthfully he was kinda sorta willing to help--but not really. His attitude was definitely questionable. Fast-paced restaurant. In and out. Very quick service (meaning order, eat, then get out). Probably won't be returning because of the way the service was handled. He was questioning our knowledge about what the food is supposed to be. This is the 2nd location I visited and is just as delicious as the one at Lake Forest. Ordered their oxtail Pho, which was flavorful. Though, their curry rice was a tad sweet; still flavorful. Their spring rolls were typical. Overall, service was decent and place was spacious compared to their smaller location at Lake Forest. Solid find in the Sam Clemente area. Pho: I got the #9 (rare steak and brisket) and a daughter got #10 (rare steak). We shared the broth with the rest of the family and everyone commented on how good the broth was not leaving a greasy after taste but being "bright" and "clean" on the palate. The noodles, abundant even in her small bowl and more than I can handle in my large, were fantastic. I like brisket but sometimes I find way too much fatty pieces, not the case here. On a chilly night if you're in the area this will be a great stop. The other half both got #54 (rice dish with grilled shrimp, pork, and egg roll). This was just okay. I really didn't like the pork. I'm used to receiving grilled ground pork and this was more like thin sliced pork belly but it seemed overcooked. Shrimp was good. Egg roll was okay. Would not get again and opt to try something else besides the pork. Service was really fast as we did show up about 40 minutes before closing and the place only had two parties seated. First off, I have to say how friendly and how good the employees were, all that were working there wanted their customers coming back. I ordered the PHÓ brisket only. The broth was great but the brisket was very, very, tough, you could really tell, definitely was not cooked long enough. Another dish ordered at the table was OK, it had a small pieces of pork, I was told the shrimp was good. My Shrimp spring Roll was old and not fresh? The shrimp and cabbage smelled like my socks after a long work day. The Grilled pork Banh mi.. the carrot slaw was off.. why mix carrot & Mayo ?.. but it tasted about a week or more old. Pork was cooked poorly and who sliced it? So much fat.. render it! Then for the grand finale.. Chicken curry rice soup.. Rice was actually perfect.. But the curry... did your cook fart in the container before sending it? Curry might make you fart.. This is a place to avoid! I found a piece of animal skin with hairs in my pho. It was gross and almost made me throw up. When I asked the waiter, he shrugged it off, unapologetic and only said it came from the tail. It seems that it should be part of the meal. Wish I could give them more stars. Fast I mean lightning fast service. My wife and daughters have been coming here several times a year since 2015. When we come to enjoy the beach this is a must, sometimes we eat here 2 or 3 times during the week we are here. The Pho is of course the main reason we go, perfect broth, noodles cooked so good and good ratio to broth. Then there are the cheese wontons, the best I have had anywhere!!! Big, perfectly crunchy, delicious filling, creamy and oh so good, sweet chili sauce for dipping that just knocks it out of the park. Every Pho place we go to is compared to this one, it is our gold standard. If you're not in the mood for Pho try the Vermicelli bowl with the fried pork, again it sets the standard and only one other place has come close. read more

Wait for dinner at the local restaurants in Carlsbad after the brick or treat event in Legoland would have been 45 minutes. My party of 11 which included 5 kids opted to drive to San Clemente for pho instead. We called in to give the heads up. Arrive at 8. They close at 9. And the entire time we felt so rushed. Comments from employees about their long days also felt uncomfortable. We ordered a variation of pho's. Bowls came out quick. The large portion sizes weren't very large. Due to COVID came here for takeout only, I was staying at the holiday inn for a wedding and needed dinner and looked like it got good reviews on Yelp so had to give it a try since it was walking distance. The menu is the same as any other pho place but was the food able to compare to my San Diego Vietnamese food spots??? Service was good, but half the staff were not wearing masks... So minus 1 star. I ordered shrimp spring roll the beef vermicelli, rice and bbq beef and crisply noodles. Ok so the food is pretty bomb! The spring rolls are really good they freshly grill the shrimp it was nice and warm. The sauce was a hoisin type of sauce with not to much peanut taste but you know what it worked! The Crispy Noods with beef chicken and pork with veggies was so fresh and portions was perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids to share. Make sure you get sauce and veggies on the side so it will be crispy when you mix it at home. The short ribs and rice was alright tasty no bones so it was all meat with most of the fat trimmed. The meat was marinated well and was very tender, the dipping sauce that came with it was some kind of vinaigrette smell to it. This was a real good choice my 4 year old loved it. My least favorite was the chicken and egg roll vermicelli. It was okay abc not as good as the vermicelli in San Diego I'm use to. The fish sauce wasn't that good either no spices or chili in it, just some fish sauce with water and sugar so plain. The chicken kinda had a yellow curry color and flavor to it. I'd pass on this and get the other 3 items before this. Overall the place seems to be doing well with a lot of orders to go, so that was a good sign when I came in as their was a lot of door dash/Uber eats drivers waiting for their deliveries. 4 solid stars read more

Glad I tried this place. I got take out and the process was very fast. I decided to call in my order because I couldn't find the customization I needed online. Order was ready in 10 minutes. Ox Tail Pho- I have only recently tried ox tail and have loved it each time and this was no exception. Generous portion of meat was served on the side and the pho was disassembled exactly as it should be for a to go order. Meat was terrific. The broth was average. I'm a huge Pho lover and want that clean flavorful broth and this was clean but lacked a bit of flavor. Overall B- Garlic Noodles- these were essentially linguini garlic noodles and they were GREAT. It looked odd at first to me, almost appeared like am Italian dish, but had that Asian noodle flavor. These get an A and I will be back for more. I've been here a few times during lunch when I'm craving soup and I've never had a bad experience. The staff and service is good and the food is delicious. I'm a creature of habit so I always order the chicken pho but I'm sure the rest of the items on the menu are good too. Went here for a rainy afternoon lunch with some friends and family. We ordered the most popular phos #8 #10 #11, calamari, spring rolls, the chicken bahn mi, and fried rice. The food was excellent! The phos broth was delicious and the noodles and meat were light but superb. I really enjoyed the creaminess of it and the authentic taste to it. The calamari was yummy and not too over battered and fried which I liked. Spring rolls and fried rice were average but nothing to complain about. But let me tell you about the chicken bahn mi.. AMAZING! Loved it so much, the savory flavor was great and the chicken and carrot combo was awesome. My only complaint is I love daikon and was looking forward for that which was not included on their bahn mi. Now, why I gave it 3 stars: The service was awful. The service wasn't terrible because of their little understanding of English. I understand and respect all languages, and of course that adds more authenticity to their food. Their service was terrible because to be seated we had to wait 10 minutes for someone to come by. Once seated we had to stand up and walk around the restaurant to find someone to take our order. After receiving our meals we again had to find the waiter to refill our waters. And finally when it was time for our check I went up to the front and asked for it and they pointed at a checkbook and I had to bring it back to my table. Then when paying we brought it back to them. Maybe this is how they do it at this Pho restaurant, making the customers having to find employees to order, ask questions, and pay. (Also must mention there were only 3 other customers in the restaurant, so it wasn't hectic or busy) Personally it was strange, and it was annoying to get up from my table to find employees and chase them around the restaurant.
