This place is on my Saturday ritual.(after honey do list) I go there around noon every Saturday and if gods smile on me (if wife allows) on Sundays too. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Post on the door says "Wait to be seated". But as soon as you get in .... some smiling face will let you know where to sit where ever. You are attended to in time you sit down. Menu is explained to you. Dont be intimidated ... ask questions. Staff is well informed. Place is clean and music is bumping. Food is awesome. I have tasted their entire menu ..... kick ass. The Pho is awesome. Banh Mi is off the hook. Piece De Resistance .... Bun Bo Hue ..... on the weekends. My man Dung and Super awesome Falicia hook me up with dish with Thai Bird Chili in the broth. I'll preface this review by stating that whenever I see a new Yelp page with an abundance of five star reviews, and said reviews are the ONLY reviews the Yelper has ever left, I am extremely skeptical to say the least! Having a Vietnamese wife with amazing culinary skills, I am no stranger to the flavors of traditional Viet cuisine. She has insisted we try many of the Vietnamese restaurants in both Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, despite the fact that we almost always leave dissatisfied. Unfortunately, Pho Thien was no exception. As a someone with a major preference toward eating pescetarian, I was very disappointed to see that the menu offers no vegetarian or strictly pescetarian entrees. It is 2016 now and vegetarians or pescetarians are no longer anywhere near the extreme end of the restrictive diet spectrum. I know plenty of vegetarian Buddhist Vietnamese as well so traditional ingredients is not an excuse either. I really didn't want to order anything, but given that it was well past dinner time, and I hadn't eaten for most of the day, I reluctantly did so. I opted for the Bun Dac Biet, asking that the grilled pork and pork containing egg roll be omitted, and the Banh Beo Tom Chay as an appetizer. I thought the appetizer was tasty, my wife on the other hand did not, citing the lack of fried onion and substitution of sauteed shrimp for what should have been dried shrimp. This Bun Dac Biet dish was neither amazing nor terrible (not that it could be given its very basic ingredients). However, my wife was very disappointed to see that the wide variety of mints and leaves traditionally included in this dish had been severely scaled back to only cilantro. She ordered a bowl of beef Pho for herself, and a bowl of chicken Pho for our sons. They aren't old enough to to know how bland the soup was, but my wife certainly did and she forced me to try a spoonful of the beef broth. There was merely a slight aftertaste of the cinnamon, cloves, fennel, and star anise that define the distinctive Pho flavor. Coincidentally I asked my wife what Thien meant, she informed me that it indicated this place was claiming to be Pho Heaven. If this is the case, an eternity in Pho hell should be something they threaten all badly behaved Vietnamese children with. The only thing that saved this experience from being one star was the service. Both our waitress and the manger were very attentive and pleasant. read more

I have had the Pho Tai Bo Bien, Pho Ga, and the Bun Dac Biet (the grilled pork with noodles dish) all three were excellent. This place has been my Sunday ritual for the past 2 months. The weekend bun bo pho is amazing. I have been to many pho restaurants in Chinatown that can't hold a candle to this place. The broth is so rich and the vegetables are always incredibly fresh. Only complaint is the size of the restaurant which I won't deduce from the rating for, People have found out about this place and it's gotten busier on weekends. Sometimes you have to awkwardly stand next to other tables to wait to sit down. The bahn mi sandwiches are awesome also. Hopefully they make enough money to open up a bigger location because this one is very small and tucked into the back of a strip mall, you'd never notice it driving by. read more

I went for a late lunch, so there was not a big crowd. The service was very attentive. That was my first real spring roll, I'm not a big fan of mint in my food but I enjoyed them very much. The Pho was a very large portion for me especially getting the spring rolls. I was able to take half of it all home. She put it in the take out containers for me and in the bag she included chop sticks, plastic wear and napkins which I thought was above and beyond for to go. I visited the area from San Francisco, California, and I was looking for a warm bowl of pho. That's when I found this gem that just opened! The staff wore Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese dresses) for their grand opening and greeted me with friendly smiles. Everyone was very courteous and polite. Just moved to the area from up north and was craving some pho and spring roll. I was hoping to find a place that is close by that serves some homemade pho and spring roll, however this was not it. It was very bland and on top of that the sauce that I was given for the pho was in a mini container that barely gave the broth any flavor at all. The spring roll was ok, kind of annoying that they decided to cut off the ends of the spring rolls cuz the noodles were falling all over the place. The broth taste very well compare to other pho joints I been at...even in Uptown area. The downside of it that there wasn't enough beef balls(2 balls cut in half), steak (3-4 thin slices of steak) and very little noodles with a bowl filled with broth. The portion is smaller for me vs at other places. The price is $2 more than your average pho....the highest I ever seen pho priced at is $10. The average is $8.50 but if I am paying $10 I expect a lil more or what so ever. Even pho joints in uptown serve more meat and noodles in your pho and it's not even $10. I just felt like I paid $10 for good broth. Furthermore, It's good to know this place is run by actual Vietnamese people since I heard them yelling about something in the back. There's a few pho places that are not run or cook by Vietnamese people and it's a disappointment because it don't taste like what it's supposed too. Anyways, my waiter Felica was good and everything. Also, my avocado smoothie was the bomb! I got it with tapioca although it took them awhile to warm it up, but they apologize which I'm cool about and all for waiting. Lastly, to add to the 3 stars..the downside of it is that I noticed they charge extra 0.50 cents on To-go items to pay for the containers. Who tf does that? Only this pho place does. I visited this new Phô place with great anticipation. The soup was pretty good, but not the best I've had in this area. I noticed how attentive the service was for other guests. We love pho and we love appetizers, both here were disappointing. The pho ga was probably the best dish, at least the broth had flavor, but the chicken itself was sparse and bland. My pho tai was bland through and through though. Also I haven't had the steak come raw before when ordering this elsewhere, this was carryout, so the broth was certainly not hot enough to cook it. Maybe that's common practice, but I didn't enjoy it bloodying up the soup, and having a raw bland flavor. The spring rolls were relatively bland too. The wife and I just returned home from enjoying a really simple but tasty dinner at Pho Thien Vietnamese Kitchen in Naperville. The shrimp spring roll appitizer with peanut sauce was promptly brought to the table along with our drink order and was a pleasantly light prelude to the entree. We both ordered beef Pho. They offer it on the menu in variations. The menu lists each dish in Vietnamese while showing the main ingredients in English. If you like beef noodle soup, you will love the complex and satisfying flavor of the Pho. It is served with a selection of tasty add ons. You can spice it up with a varity of condiments.
