I still can't figure out how you can be soooo hungry, walk into a pho place, order a small bowl of the goodness and leave feeling like you need to be rolled out. Here's another wonderful pho place where that happens. We both ordered the combo meals (dine in only) and got a small bowl of medium rare beef pho, egg rolls - they seemed like the small frozen kind but the dipping sauce was wonderful - or spring rolls and a Coke. At about $9 it was a great deal. The broth was beefier and, to me, a bit sweeter than some other pho broth I had before. The broth covered plenty of rice noodles, a nice serving of thinly sliced beef, some paper thin raw red onion to which you add your usual bean sprouts, jalapeno and herbs. It was warm, filling and fragrant. The place is down in the Gulfton part of Bellaire. Don't freak because it's surrounded by 99 cent stores and auto repair shops and it's not down in the Chinatown part of Bellaire. It seemed clean and the young man that waited on us took our order right away and the food came out real quick. There were several tables filled with other folks enjoying pho, smoothies and a couple folks came in to order to go. It's nothing fancy. Basic tables, minimal decor, all your utensils are on the lazy Susan at the table. The menu had more than pho - and there were many varieties of that. There was banh mi, spicy Mexican soups, bo luc lac etc. Inexpensive, quick service, good and filling. Worth the stop if you are in the area. read more

I decided to come here because of the huge noodle menu they offer and the pho is super inexpensive. Sadly I found the pho's broth to be very lacking in flavor. We ordered pho tai, pho bo vien, and pho dac biet and we agreed that our broth was utterly bland. Usually I don't have to put much Hoisin or Sriracha sauce in my pho, but with this I found myself to be putting way more than usual to be able to enjoy the pho. The meat to noodle ratio was fine, but it doesn't make any sense to be for it to be so bland being a pho specialty restaurant. Came here for a much needed bowl of Pho. Glad I found this place, because it hit the spot!! The only downside is that it's also in a very popular shopping center so parking at prime time can be tough; however, the patrons that frequent this lot have also instigated Pho VN 21 to have spanish on their menu! This is seriously a first and I like it! I ordered two fried eggrolls and a bowl of the pho special (mixed meats). The eggrolls are clean and light, which is a bit different than I am normally used to but the fact that they sold really good pho and eggrolls is a huge plus. I have run into a few too many pho joints in Houston that only have pho. Sorry I want my viet fried eggrolls! The bowl of pho came out so clear and clean, it was great. You could really taste the individual components in the soup and I was able to add in very little sauces to get it to my liking. Lastly, the service here is great, clean, and fast. I went here to order some food to go. The Goi Cuon (spring rolls) were very tasty and the peanut sauce was awesome. My main meal was the Banh Mi Thit Nuong (Grilled pork sandwich) and that was absolutely great! My only comment is that the bread could be cooked longer so it would be more crispy....Other than that it was really good. Great location too! We paid and tipped 20%. The owner (older man) didn't charge us for one of our teas, we didn't know because they don't give you an itemized receipt. The owner hand writes the order and leaves it on the table for you to take to the counter. The owner acted like we dined and dashed in front of everyone in the restaurant. He forgot to charge us for one tea then treated us like we were stealing. He aggressively shouted "hello hello you didn't pay hello hello you can't leave hey hey" shouting at us. Everyone was outside and I was walking out the door. Shouting at us to come back is inappropriate , if you forgot to charge us for a tea that's on you. We came back in and paid for the tea. Then he didn't give us our card back and folded it up in a receipt and said oh you forgot your card. No, you just didn't hand it back to us. He previously came to the table another time when he saw us putting salt and pepper on our noodle. He poured the salt in has hand and licked it off saying that he thought it must be sugar because I was putting so much on? He acts like he doesn't need your business and doesn't care. Skip this place. I've been coming here for over 10 years. Never again. Passive aggressive owner with an attitude toward his paying customers. Weirdo owner. You're better off getting authentic Vietnamese food in Sharpstown area. Not here my noodle were clumped up in balls? It looked like recycled noodles. read more

I was skeptical at first but I have to say I really love this place. I usually head to Pho Saigon but this place is closer to my home so we decided to try it one night. We got takeout, the service was great, I had 2 kids with me and they walked me out to the car with my food. The broth was really really good, I also got pork and it was very good! Dropped in for lunch. This place was packed. For it to have been the busy lunch rush, I was greeted quickly & my order was taken asap. Went for the Pho Chin Nam and an order of spring rolls to go. As I was waiting for my order I noticed the staff was doing a pretty good job of keeping the tables cleared & waiting on customers. This place is clean on the inside. My pho was piping hot & the portion size was good. I ate the other half for lunch today! :-) The flavor was ok. I've had better, but it wasn't bad. I liked their spring rolls better & their dipping sauce had a nice lil twist of a little dab of peanut crumbles. The price was reasonable as well, under $9 all together. I live in this 'hood....yeah, I said it. :) I've been getting pho from various places in/near the Downtown area where I work and carting it home. I had been to another pho place by the Westpark Toll Road, and the waiter there told me about this location. The pho broth here is fragrant and flavorful every time (during the winter I was getting a pho takeout at least 1x/week). The vegetables always fresh and the meat looks fresh as well. I get a small pho and spring rolls, or just a large pho when i'm feeling particularly greedy :) Also very reasonably priced. The restaurant is clean and there is a diverse mix of people and families there just having a good time enjoying their meals while watching the flat screen tv. read more

There is a saying in my line of work that you can have good, fast, and cheap: pick two. And I have generally found that in real life, that saying is pretty applicable. Well, I have found the exception. Pho VN 21 may not be fancy, the interior bears a strong resemblance to a cafeteria, but darn it if it isn't some of the best pho I've ever had. Holy moly artichokes, the bun bo hue here blew my mind! It was extremely flavorful and I liked the cuts of meat. Most importantly, the broth was authentic. I was so surprised to find a Vietnamese restaurant with truly great bun bo hue that wasn't all the way in Asiantown. I've also tried their rice platters. They're pretty okay. Their pho is good, especially the meat. I like that the menus are multilingual, with Spanish being the extra language on top of the usual English and Vietnamese because PVN21 is located in the heart of a predominantly Hispanic area. Service is exceptional, but not extraordinary. They're usually only one main female server with short hair working alongside the two owners. Always a fan of really good phõ and this place fits the bill. I was under the weather and decided to try this place near my job. It gas lots of reviews and I see why. Small family run place but the beef phõ and the vegetarian eggs rolls were AHHHMAZING! The fish sauce had this spicy finish and the flavors danced in your mouth. I went back twice in the same week! The got the beef phõ with flank steak which was so tender and plentiful. Everything was well packed but I would go eat there any day of the week. The place looked clean and tidy. Close to home pho fix! Judging pho is extremely subjective since everyone has their own version of what good pho is. It's like asking Filipinos to judge someone else's mother's adobo. Or asking the spanish to judge paella. It's all about what you grew up with. But here are my thoughts. The "phood": The pho had a nice clear broth but there was just something a little lacking for me. Perhaps the soup hasn't been cooking long enough? But it wasn't bad, especially since it is a 4 min drive from my house. I had the Pho Dac Biet which is basically a combo of all the fixin's. I did not put anything extra in the pho like hoisin sauce or Sriracha and that's the way I like it. The spring rolls were fresh and veggies were crisp. My friend's bun thit nuong is actually better than the pho but it really depends on if you're in a bun mood or pho mood for that day. The setting: The building is a stand-alone in a largely hispanic shopping center. Clean place, table aren't sticky like many other pho places. The service was immaculate! The employees were talkative and was obvious passionate about their menu (rare for a pho place). Parking: it's in a big center so there is plenty of parking. Summary: great locale for me, fresh ingredients, pho has less body than I prefer. read more

I've lived in this neighborhood for almost ten years and am only just now discovering this place, which is such a shame! They have such fresh, delicious food, including a VEGAN PHO! It's so hard to find a good pho made with a truly vegan broth, but theirs is and comes with all the trappings and big hunks of tofu. It's quite flavorful and doesn't need any hoisin or sriracha in my opinion, you can really taste the spices. There's not a ton of tofu on the menu (part of why we didn't check it out sooner) but they're happy to sub it in to any of their menu items, I wish I would have known that before we came! There also aren't bubble tea smoothies on the menu, but they do have a tasty mango or avocado smoothie and several teas or coffees you can add tapioca to - yum! One of my favorite spots for lunch! The only pho place in the area and it's all I could want! My usual go-to pho restaurants are in the international part of town and sometimes I just don't want to take the drive down there. Pho VN21 is close to my house and the food is amazing! The place is not big, it's located in a shopping center. The main store in the shopping center is the large 99c store, Pho VN21 is located in the right building in front of the 99c store. Parking is limited near the storefront but I've never had an issue. The restaurant isn't big but accommodates a good group of people. Again, I've never had an issue with finding a table either. Overall atmosphere is comfortable. No judgement on how you eat your pho here! I usually order a pho tai nam (combination of flanks & brisket), spring rolls and an ice tea. I have also tried their rice platters and they're also great. I recommend the char-grilled pork plate... yum! Another item on the menu that is oh so odd (odd as in I would have never expected this on the menu), but oh so good is the Banh Mi Op La (Bread w/ two eggs) .. its two eggs prepared sunny side up and a warm toasted bread. I always ate this growing up and I was surprised they offered it! Needless to say, it's amazing just like the rest of their menu options. The staff here is friendly and attentive. The freshest vermicelli I've ever had. Ever. I was craving Vietnamese food today and didn't want to drive far. And considering I had 30 minutes for lunch today, I needed something that would be good for a to-go order. After a 10-second yelp search, I picked this place based on location and rating. I was in and out of the restaurant in 15 minutes without calling ahead. Awesome. I decided to get the Bun (vermicelli bowl) with grilled chicken and at the last minute, sprung for the egg roll version too. You pay an extra 50 cents for just one small egg roll. You've been forewarned. Next time, I'll just stick to the grilled chicken. Compared to the ratio of vermicelli to fresh veggies I usually have seen (and have come to accept as the preferred ratio), it wasn't what I hoped for. A bit too much vermicelli. Not enough fresh veggies. Not enough to lose more than 1 star, though. Side note regarding the clientele: It was a bit unusual. It was mostly men (I think there was one other lady in there). And only one table of Asians. Everyone else was Hispanic. And pretty friendly to me (making oodles of eye contact and saying "hi" and "bye" when they passed by me), especially considering I just sat at a table in a corner by the cashier by myself while waiting for my order. read more

This place confused us because yelp said it opened at 9am. When we arrived at 9:30am, the open sign was on but the sign at the door said they didn't open until 10am. We went in and had to holler for someone to help us as everyone was way in the back of the kitchen. We ordered our typical pho restaurant order of goi cuon (fresh spring rolls) and 2 bowls of Pho Tai Bo Vien (beef pho with rare steak and meatballs). The spring rolls were ok but the meat tasted a bit old. The pho was very bland. It felt like maybe they weren't expecting customers and mixed hot water with pho broth to make two bowls. read more

Busy with blindingly fast service and a customer mixture of many cultures makes it a fun adventure with a full belly ending sure to please.
