Authentic and delicious Vietnamese food, clean restaurant, quick, friendly and attentive service by May and kitchen staff. I look forward to coming back and try everything on the menu.

The pho was tasty, the chicken with eggroll over vermicelli was gorgeous and flavorful, the Vietnamese clay pot rice was also gorgeous and yummy. The service was kind and attentive, the place was spacious and clean. The prices were reasonable.

BBQ Chicken with Eggrolls. Great dish!

Ah, the no fuss and good food establishment we old school foodies miss! This place is super chill and even the patrons that dine there are as well. Located near Columbus Street and Stockton, or where Chinatown and North Beach meet, this more quiet-than-usual restaurant offers a good variety of Vietnamese dishes, as well as Chinese dishes. The choice is really up to you on whatever you may be craving most! I was most interested in their Vietnamese dishes, and got their BBQ Chicken with Eggrolls. And my-oh-my....the chicken was prepared simply and portion size was pretty huge. Worth the price. Flavors also seem authentic (believe the owners are Chinese-Vietnamese) and tasty. If you're lucky enough, grab a window seat and you can also people watch as you're enjoying your meal. Really a gem of a place right in Chinatown!

We were around Chinatown waiting for something and we were slightly hungry. We decided to try this Vietnamese spot out. The staff was great and they let us take our time with the menu. They were very prompt when we decided what we wanted to order and the food came out quickly. This spot is kind of a hole in the wall, doesn't look the most appealing. But the food makes up for all of it. The portions are big and we were stuffed just sharing the appetizer and the entree.

The service was quick, there were 3 other couples having lunch. I ordered the chicken pho. It looked delicious, however there was no flavor in the broth. The size of the chicken is thinner and smaller than before. I don't mind paying more for my meal, and was a bit disappointed with the flavor of my pho. I understand costs have changed since Covid, however I was looking forward to enjoying their broth. Ambiance is a classic Asian restaurant.

My teenage son and I stopped here after our GoCar tour. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. The folks working were so nice and accommodating. This was a great find in Chinatown!

My favorite Vietnamese establishment in San Francisco!! Usually there are seats available, so no wait. Service is excellent. They are so sweet. Food comes out very quickly and looks amazing each tIndoor dining feels clean and spacious. Outdoor dining offers a nice space for just you and your table. Food is always yummy and flavorful. They also have a wide variety of options on the menu. Our recommendations: - imperial rolls - special beef pho - chicken pho - beef broccoli rice - satay seafood noodle soup The food here is just perfect to me. The broth of the pho is sweet and nice. The meat is always very tender. Even my picky mom adores this place. This place deserves so much more recognition in my eyes!

This is a small authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown recommended by a local. Everything was delicious! We started with the imperical rolls, which are deep fried and delectable served with traditional fish sauce and pickled carrots / radish. We shared the fresh shrimp rolls and lemon grass beef vermicelli. Shrimp Rolls were super fresh (wrapped in rice paper roll and served with peanut sauce) and tasty. Lemon grass beef served with sautéed onion and chili pepper with vermicelli and bean sprouts. All were outstanding!!

I'm rarely in the area but my friend recommended this spot. It's one of the best pho places in Chinatown. I went with a friend. We ordered and got our food fast. It took me a while to finish my bowl of pho. This place gives you A LOT of noodles. The broth could be better but the amount of noodles they give you definitely makes up for it.

My aunt and uncle from Tucson always come here when they visit, and I finally tried it myself! Pho Vung Tau has been slinging affordable Vietnamese food on the outskirts of Chinatown/North Beach/Telegraph Hill/Russian Hill for years (current owners took over in 2008). Service was very amiable and quick, checking in on us multiple times. Portions were generous given the price point. My aunt ordered 20. Special Beef Noodle Soup which had yummy beef balls and I tried the Bun bo hue which was spicy, flavorful, and I loved the cubes of congealed pork blood. I thought the bun bo hue could compete with bun bo hue I've had in San Jose's Little Saigon! The clientele seemed diverse--you had people from Chinatown, working professionals eating alone on their lunch break, construction workers, and mail people. Love it!

    Thai iced tea. Delicious
    Ry T.

We've been here before. The food is OK. The Thai iced tea is very good. One of my favs. I ordered the seafood pho, it had mostly processed seafood, the fake crab, fish balls, slices of fish cake, a couple of shrimp and rehydrated squid pieces. I didn't care for the soup. Should remember not to order this again. BFF ordered the shrimp salad. It's one of her favorites here. Staff is efficient but they won't check back on you after the food arrives. Bathroom in the back. They do get regulars who dine here. It's a hole in the wall.

Fresh Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls
    Adam B.

Situated in the outskirts of North Beach, where it doesn't really feel like North Beach anymore. This place looks pretty humble. However, the food is tasty and a good bargain. Fresh Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls: Seeing only the shrimp on top, it looked like they forgot the pork, but it's actually wrapped up inside. Seemed freshly made to order, since the rice wrapper was so supple. A burst of freshness in every bite. The umami peanut sauce really made the dish. Special Beef Pho: Love that they default to my three favorite pho meats which are rare eye round, brisket and meatballs. Didn't have to worry about picking out chewy tripe or slimy tendon! For takeout, the rice noodles are in one big clump and need a bit of shaking in the broth to loosen up. The broth itself is meaty with nice herbal aromatics. Very satisfying, especially on a drizzly day. Vermicelli Noodle Bowl w/ BBQ Chicken and Imperial Rolls: The chicken is full or marinated flavor with pretty crispy skin for being roasted. It's cut similarly to how duck and chicken are cut at Chinese BBQ shops, meaning there's some bone and gristle in the slices so chew very carefully. The imperial rolls are thin and meaty and crispy. It looks kinda plain in the takeout container, but there's actually a lot of fresh veggies underneath the mound of rice noodles. A pretty large portion when you mix it all together. BBQ Pork Chop: Got this as a side to boost the protein in my rice noodles. Such a nice heavily marinated flavor. It's hard to say whether the pork or the chicken is better, so I'm glad I had both.

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

The portion size was nice and large, and the mochi on top was so soft and chewy. The salted duck egg topping tasted like the filling in the lava egg yolk buns from dim sum, so earthy and rich and sweet with a perfect umami hit. It paired perfectly with the milky, not too sweet shaved ice. I love salted duck yolk everything and this is yet another item to add to that list! Naya is a bit pricy but so worth it for that bingsoo.

We originally went to the location near Union Square, thinking we'd be able to grab pastries and hot chocolate, only to realize it's primarily a retail shop with chocolate bars and merchandise. We ended up making our way to the Valencia Street location, and I'm so glad we did. We learned that it used to be the original factory before they outgrew the space. Production has since moved a few blocks away, and now this location offers classes, a café, and plenty of chocolate treats. While we were there, a chocolate-making class was in session, and it was fun to watch part of it. The instructor even came over to chat with us and answer a few questions, which was such a nice personal touch. We ordered the brownie bite flight along with a hot chocolate, and both were fantastic. The brownie flight was rich, flavorful, and a fun way to sample different chocolates. The hot chocolate came with a tiny cookie that was absolutely delicious. At first, we were a little disappointed because we thought our hot chocolate was supposed to come with a marshmallow and didn't see one. When we mentioned it, the instructor smiled and showed us a toppings station we had completely missed. There were homemade marshmallows, flavored sugar cubes, and other little extras you could add yourself. He even encouraged us to take a few extra marshmallows, and they were some of the best I've ever had. One thing to know before you go is that Dandelion Chocolate focuses on high-quality chocolate that isn't overly sweet. If you're expecting the sugary milk chocolate flavor of a candy bar, this is a different experience. The chocolate has a richer, more complex flavor, and we really enjoyed trying something different. Between the friendly staff, delicious treats, and unique experience, I'd definitely recommend adding it to your itinerary--just make sure you head to the café location if you're looking for food and drinks!
