I'm rarely in the area but my friend recommended this spot. It's one of the best pho places in Chinatown. I went with a friend. We ordered and got our food fast. Service was very amiable and quick, checking in on us multiple times. Portions were generous given the price point. My aunt ordered 20. Special Beef Noodle Soup which had yummy beef balls and I tried the Bun bo hue which was spicy, flavorful, and I loved the cubes of congealed pork blood. I thought the bun bo hue could compete with bun bo hue I've had in San Jose's Little Saigon! One of my favs. I ordered the seafood pho, it had mostly processed seafood, the fake crab, fish balls, slices of fish cake, a couple of shrimp and rehydrated squid pieces. I didn't care for the soup. Situated in the outskirts of North Beach, where it doesn't really feel like North Beach anymore. This place looks pretty humble. However, the food is tasty and a good bargain. Fresh Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls: Seeing only the shrimp on top, it looked like they forgot the pork, but it's actually wrapped up inside. Seemed freshly made to order, since the rice wrapper was so supple. A burst of freshness in every bite. The umami peanut sauce really made the dish. Special Beef Pho: Love that they default to my three favorite pho meats which are rare eye round, brisket and meatballs. Didn't have to worry about picking out chewy tripe or slimy tendon! For takeout, the rice noodles are in one big clump and need a bit of shaking in the broth to loosen up. The broth itself is meaty with nice herbal aromatics. Very satisfying, especially on a drizzly day. Vermicelli Noodle Bowl w/ BBQ Chicken and Imperial Rolls: The chicken is full or marinated flavor with pretty crispy skin for being roasted. It's cut similarly to how duck and chicken are cut at Chinese BBQ shops, meaning there's some bone and gristle in the slices so chew very carefully. The imperial rolls are thin and meaty and crispy. It looks kinda plain in the takeout container, but there's actually a lot of fresh veggies underneath the mound of rice noodles. A pretty large portion when you mix it all together. BBQ Pork Chop: Got this as a side to boost the protein in my rice noodles. Such a nice heavily marinated flavor. It's hard to say whether the pork or the chicken is better, so I'm glad I had both. read more

I'm not sure how old and established this North Beach Vietnamese restaurant is, but it sure felt like it. I was on a random walk in the area knowing full well that excessive pasta consumption was not going to happen. That was probably why I landed in this rather tired-looking spot on Vallejo, which was far enough away from the Columbus tourist freeway to make it appealing on a Friday evening. There was only one other table occupied which didn't give me rise for concern but rather made me think I'd get speedy service. Not really. I went with my standard order starting with the $6.25 Fresh Spring Rolls (Goi Cuon), a good litmus test for what was to come. I've been here twice: Once, when I was so hungover I needed to drown myself in a bowl of pho, and once when I was craving spring rolls on a hot spring day. Stumbled upon this place and thought I could order the three color bean dessert for a pick me up and use restroom too. They would not let me use restroom. Told me that I needed to pay additional $10 to use restroom. Needless to say, I walked away and found a nearby establishment that allowed me to purchase a drink and take a potty break. I love Vietnamese food, pho in particular; but due to the rude attitude, i would never return here nor recommend to friends. We came here at 2 pm on a Saturday. We were seated immediately and our orders were taken quickly. We ordered the vermicelli bowls, 2 BBQ chicken and 2 BBQ beef. The combo comes with imperial rolls which are deep fried and delicious. The serving sizes are huge, you get a lot of food for your buck. I came here yesterday on a Saturday afternoon as I was craving some Vietnamese food close by. Pho Vung Tau was a place I've been going to as a kid so I wanted to give this place my own review. The restaurant in my opinion is pretty decent. I ended up getting the seafood pho and the soup base for me at least didn't really stand out/or have enough flavor to it. There were a few slices of squid, shrimp, fishballs, and some imitation crab, but it was just alright. It's definitely not bad, and they do give a generous amount of noodles which was good. Their spring rolls were definitely satisfying for me. The ingredients that they used felt really fresh. Overall, they're just normal spring rolls though; nothing special or anything, but they were definitely pretty good. And lastly, their Bun Bo Hue was alright as well. A lot of places that do Bun Bo Hue turn out to be kinda oily for me, but this one was pretty adequate and it didn't feel overwhelming at all. It's basically like the toned-down version of how it's usually made. All in all, their food was okay in general. What I do recommend are their vermicelli/rice plates. I do think their lemongrass chicken, five-spice chicken rice rice/vermicelli dishes are pretty good from my standards. But their noodle soups are just alright. I would definitely still come here though! It doesn't really stand out compared to other Vietnamese places, but it's still a hidden gem to look out for especially if you live in Chinatown. read more

I got the beef pho, happened to be just well done beef brisket. I asked for garlic chilli oil and alot of saracha sauce. They only gave me one saracha and no chilli oil suace. The dish costed 9.95 on the menu, they charged me 11.60. the transaction was akward, they don't really speak English and could not answer any of my questions. Things on the menu did not make sense so i wanted to ask about it. Like bbq beef in pho. The portion was a very small amount, smallest i have ever had. It was all a bad experience. I was walking around and stumbled upon this Vietnamese restaurant. The waitress was very courteous and pleasant. She mentioned that the restaurant had been in business for 20 years and that the locals eat here all the time. If the locals eat there it has to be good. I ordered some hot tea and beef noodle soup. It was so flavorful and it warmed me up right away. My oldest daughter had the beef and broccoli, which was also very tasty and delicious. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
