Golden Lotus is a cozy little Vietnamese restaurant on Larkin Street that's perfect for a casual meal. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and was surprised that it wasn't very busy, which help make a nice & relaxed dining experience here. The service was quick and friendly, and my food came out fast. I ordered the vegetarian bun Hue, and the portion was generous for the price. The flavors were good, especially considering how affordable everything was. Overall, a solid bowl and a filling meal. I've only tried their vegetarian options so far, but I'm curious to come back and explore more of the menu next time. Maybe go with some friends to try more dishes as well. Overall, a good neighborhood spot for Vietnamese food.

    I already dug into it.

4 stars for the food, 1 for the ambience. The food was great and I got my imperial roll/grilled pork vermicelli bowl relatively fast. But they seated me in the 2nd dining room which is quite depressing. I normally don't care about the physical setting of a no frills restaurant, but I and other diners kept hearing the scratching and pitter patter of some kind of animal above us or in the walls, not entirely sure. It was definitely noticeable and a little disturbing, like these things were scurrying across the ACT ceiling and could come falling down at any moment. My bowl was delicious, the rolls and the grilled pork were super tasty and fresh, there were a ton of veggies. I just can't get past what I heard. I tried to convince myself they were pigeons but when I looked outside it is not a single story building.

#43 - Bun Tom Thit Nuong (Grilled Pork + Shrimp Vermicelli)

Golden Lotus is a no‑fuss, unpretentious Vietnamese hole in the wall in the heart of the TL, with owners that are super friendly, speaking both Vietnamese and Cantonese, and have that rare knack for remembering you even after just a couple of visits. If it's your first time, start with the #3 (banh cuon thit nuong) to share. It's a dish that's surprisingly hard to find in San Francisco despite being a super common and beloved street food in Vietnam, and Golden Lotus does a really nice version that is fresh, flavorful, and packed with all the herbs and textures that make it so delicious. I do wish the rice paper wrappers were a bit thinner and chewier, and that they cut the rolls into 12 smaller pieces instead of 6, since they're just a touch too big to eat as is, but it's still absolutely worth trying. The bun (vermicelli) is solid and exactly what you want from a good bowl of noodles, even if it doesn't dramatically stand apart from other strong versions around the city. The #43 (banh uot) is one of the more interesting items on the menu and definitely worth a try. Instead of traditional noodles, you get flat rice sheets that offer a great surface area to soak up all the sauce, with a really nice balance of flavors that took me back to one of the best dishes I had in Da Lat, banh uot long ga, or dry, flat rice noodles tossed with herbs, chicken, and offal. All in all, Golden Lotus is a super solid neighborhood joint that's an easy add to any regular rotation. Come for the welcoming owners and harder‑to‑find dishes, stay because it feels like a little slice of home in the TL.

I highly recommend coming here for the #3 Banh Cuon Thit Nuong. Golden Lotus was the first place I ever tried it - I don't see it at other Vietnamese restaurants much - and I've been back since to get it again. The rice rolls are smooth and silky, and the combination of ingredients inside (grilled lemongrass pork, mint, shallot, and then dipped in sauce) look simple but work so well together. We've also tried their Pho Ga (chicken pho), which was just okay in my opinion. Free hot tea! They also won't rush you out, so this could be a good spot to catch up with friends. The staff member I usually see working the front is really kind, and quite attentive. One time when it was pouring outside, he was constantly mopping down the entrance area so it wouldn't be as slippery. Note: Bring cash! Last time we went, their card machine was down due to internet issues.

Amazing spot, definitely check them out! Food is delicious, service is so friendly and kind, prices are reasonable, and portions are giant. We got: - signature banh cuon thit nuong: 10/10 - silky smooth banh cuon, super flavorful grilled pork, fresh lettuce and mint for crunch, tangy dipping sauce - goi cuon: 9/10 - only complaint was the sauce was a bit sweet for our liking but otherwise these were huge spring rolls with meat AND shrimp - pho dac biet: 10/10 - delicious, generous portions, everything was fresh - pho ga ngu vi (five spice chicken pho): 10/10 - even their "small" was a giant portion of fresh rice noodles and the five spice chicken was so tasty and tender Service is so welcoming here. We were served primarily by an older man who seemed like he was friends with all of his customers (most of whom appeared to be locals and regulars). He was energetic, warm, and greeted everyone with a giant smile. Despite our best efforts, we had a ton of leftovers to take home (and they helped us box everything up, too!).

Great service and food! Service was welcoming and friendly. Food came out quickly. Nine times out if ten, I get the special pho with all the fixings. The broth was so flavorful with plenty of green onions! Pork roll was crisp and juicy. It's conveniently located near the Orpheum theatre, so can catch a quick bite to eat before going to catch a show.

Ahhh my favorite place, THE BEST sit down spot for Vietnamese in all of SF. I want to gate keep this restaurant but I also want them to be as successful as they are delicious! -EVERYTHING IS GOOD- RECOMMENDATIONS: 3. Banh Cuon Thit Nuong 41. Banh Uot 43. Bun Tom Thit Nuong 53. Com Tam Suong Trung All are incredible. I CRAVE these dishes everyday now. The veggies and herbs- FRESH, CRUNCHY! The shrimp-FRESH and cooked well. The pork-PERFECTLY marinated. I don't even like pork like that! Their fish sauce that I pour all over my vermicelli bowls- I want to BATHE in it. I can't stop raving about this place. I stumbled upon it while I was walking over to another place for pho and while passing Golden Lotus, stopped to look at their menu posted outside. I'm so glad I did because a kind man, Huong, came out to say I should come in and try the food. Now I'm hooked! Thank you, Huong, we will see you at our usual time this week!

My favorite spot in the tenderloin for combo pho. Owner and staffs are super nice. You can get complimentary hot tea or iced water. Chill vibe and bustlin. I usually get the 21 large combo pho Dac Biet. Lots of memories with coworkers here for one on one chats. Even if the front is packed, they actually have a back room that you can sit and order too! Check them out!

Was in the area and craving Vietnamese food. Thanks to good ol' Yelp, I found this place within walking distance. The service was great - very friendly staff. The food came out piping hot! The Bahn Xeo is crispy and delicious. The Bahn Coun was fresh and savory. The Bahn Out had fresh flat noodles that were warm and tasty. The prices are reasonable too!

3.5 STARS Call me a weirdo but I don't mind when Chinese or Viet resto staff throw menus at me, *scoff* when I don't know what I want to order within 10 seconds of sitting down, and the kitchen and servers are yelling at each other (RIP Loi's). Oh, and have poor reviews. (Usually, the food is good AND service will be fast.) Not at Golden Lotus. The owner is super nice and accommodating. And, there was no commotion. At least for a weeknight dinner. Golden Lotus has been around for over a decade but I haven't been back to this spot since Turtle Tower closed. Open for takeout and indoor dining only. After First Thursdays in SoMa, I wanted AZN comfort food and remembered I had bookmarked Golden Lotus for their cơm tấm (broken rice). M E N U All your typical Viet staples: Phở, Bún (vermicelli noodles), and Cơm (rice plates). But, what set them apart from other Viet places in the 'loin is they have bánh cuốn (rice rolls) and cơm tấm (broken rice). No liquor. Cc's accepted. F O O D * #3 Bánh Cuốn Thịt Nướng: Rice Rolls w/ grilled lemongrass pork, mint, shallot ($9.50): https://tinyurl.com/jx3dpbtf Smooth supple steamed rice noodle but the grilled lemongrass seemed like it was cooked earlier in the day, as it didn't taste too fresh. * #11 Bò Tái Chanh: Viet Rare Beef Salad ($15.99): https://tinyurl.com/2fk7pabx Good punchy flavor and varying textures but the american wagyu was still partially frozen. * #52 Cơm Tấm Dặc Biệt: Broken Rice Combo w/ pork chop, shredded pork skin, egg cake, shrimp cake, imperial roll ($17 + $2.99 egg): https://tinyurl.com/y6a3pjp8 Most of the platter except the fried egg seemed like it was cooked earlier in the day and reheated. The sườn nướng (pork chop) was dry and the fried items (tau hu ky: shrimp cake and chả giò: imperial roll) were chewy. Chả trứng (egg meatloaf) had good texture from the bean thread noodles and wood ear mushrooms. And, I enjoyed the bì (shredded pork skin) and runny yolk. Solid nước cấm (fish dipping sauce) with a balanced salty, sweet, tangy funk. I prefer the com sườn nướng (grilled pork chop rice) next door at Larkin Resto. * #21 Phở Dặc Biệt: Combo Phở w/ flank, brisket, tripe, tendon, rare steak ($15.99): https://tinyurl.com/mtmdxfvk - Request rare steak on the side (no surcharge) Not mine but I had a sip of the northern-style broth which was quite salty and msg-y. Not as sweet as southern-style. S E R V I C E Super nice and chatty owner (speaks Canto and Viet). Prompt food service. A M B I A N C E Low-key with about 7-8 tables. P A R K I N G Street parking wasn't difficult on a weeknight. Overall, I think the food would have been better if we had gone for lunch versus dinner. 3.5 stars rounded up for cheap eats and the very kind owner.

For how chaotic the streets can be, Golden Lotus provides a clean and pleasant escape with outstanding service. The owner was very attentive, seating my colleague and me quickly and serving us hot tea on the spot. The service remained excellent throughout our meal--our cups were always full, and orders were taken efficiently without any rush. As for the food, this Vietnamese spot checks all the right boxes. The pho broth had a solid, standard flavor, and all ingredients tasted fresh and clean. You can tell the dishes are made to order rather than reheated like at some other places. Prices are fair for the area, and they execute the basics well. What stood out to me was the fried shrimp cake that came with the rice dish and the imperial rolls. The imperial rolls were light, crispy, and had the right amount of filling. They also offer chili oil upon request. Their nuoc cham is spot on, with the perfect balance of chili, garlic, fish sauce, and lime juice. My only critique is that the egg cake in the rice dish could have been denser with a better ground pork-to-vermicelli ratio, as it leaned more on the vermicelli side. Parking can be a bit sketchy because of some of the locals in the area, so keep that in mind. Next time, I'll definitely be trying their vermicelli (bún) dishes and Bún Bò Huế, which came highly recommended by others. Overall, a solid spot for Vietnamese food with great service and fair pricing!

My favorite Vietnamese spot this year. I usually go towards pho 2000 for Vietnamese food and one day as I was reading the menu outside golden lotus, the owner said hi to us and warmly invited us in. We tried his specialty banh cuon rolls along with the vermicelli bowl and from that day on we were hooked. Like wooow...the flavors of my childhood came rushing back to when I was growing up with my family and I felt a nostalgic connection to the food as I enjoyed the food. The pork was flavored with a balanced BBQ char and lettuce, wrapped in a rice paper roll, making for a neatly tucked blanket for the food. The owner spoke Vietnamese with me and made me feel like I was a nephew or part of his family and I loved that about his demeanor, his warm personality made for easy conversations. Their fish sauce was perfectly diluted so that wasn't overwhelming and had a savory sweet flavor that paired well with all the food. Shoot...even our mayor Daniel Lurie digs this spot and gave them a shoutout. My current favorite is the banh xeo, which IYKYK when I say it was bomb af. Crispy, delicious, and paired with fresh vegetables like mint and lettuce. The Ambiance is a simple layout with a TV showing traditional Vietnamese cooking and country side life, so you'll get a sense of how people live over there, and it's quite spacious so you'll be able get to bring large party sizes for outings. Value for food was good too, most dishes were around $10-15/ plate so definitely another plus!

I haven't eaten viet food in the TL since Turtle Tower closed, but my friend and I decided to come in while we were in the area and we were not disappointed. It's a no frills establishment in not the best neighborhood, but it was clean inside and the owner was friendly and welcoming. We each had a small bowl of pho dac biet (comes with all the meat options) and ordered the banh cuon to share. For a $15 bowl, it was a good portion that came with a lot of meat, especially compared to some other pho restaurants, and the broth was clean and didn't leave me guzzling water at the end of the meal. I was impressed by how tender the flank was and how flavorful the brisket was. While it wasn't the most complex broth, I definitely prefer it over those that are super oily and heavy. My one complaint is that the broth could've been hotter, but it was still good nonetheless. The banh cuon was also delicious - the texture of the roll was perfect, and I'm an absolute sucker for lemongrass pork. However, if you're a fellow cilantro hater, the menu doesn't say it but it does have cilantro. I was originally trying to pull it out and ended up just unrolling it to remove the cilantro, and the owner saw me struggling and asked if I wanted it remade which was so nice T_T thankfully there was no lingering flavor once removed so I declined, but I really appreciated that he offered. Considering the price point, portion, and quality of food, I would definitely come back to satisfy my pho cravings. The owner also greeted several customers who sounded like regulars, so you know others find it to be a reliable spot as well. Don't let the TL stop you from enjoying delicious food from a local business!

I actually discovered Que Viet through DoorDash and had everything delivered. I ordered the Deep-Fried Imperial Rolls (Cha Gio), Grilled Chicken & Chicken Imperial Roll Garlic Noodles (Mi Top Ga Nuong Cha Gio Ga), Grilled Pork Sausage Rolls (Nem Cuon), Vietnamese Shrimp Mini Crepes (Banh Xeo Tom), and the Grilled Pork Sausage & Sliced Pork Woven Vermicelli (Banh Hoi Nem & Thit Nuong). Yes... I spent almost **$100 for two people**. Looking back at the receipt, I had to ask myself, *"Is this place expensive, or am I just fat?"* Honestly... probably a little of both. Either way, it was one of the best $100 I've ever spent. If it's your first time ordering from Que Viet, do yourself a favor and get the **garlic noodles**. I know garlic noodles are everywhere these days, but these completely changed my expectations. They were perfectly cooked with an incredible bounce, packed with rich garlicky flavor, and the portion size was generous enough for leftovers (if you have the self-control). I also tried the **Banh Hoi Nem & Thit Nuong** for the first time, and it did not disappoint. One heads-up, though: it's generously topped with crushed peanuts. My friend has a peanut allergy, so thankfully we caught it before digging in. If you have any nut allergies, be sure to mention it when ordering. Every single dish arrived fresh, flavorful, and tasted like it had just come out of the kitchen despite being delivered. That's not something you can say about many places. If you ever find yourself in the city, you **need** to make a stop at Que Viet. This place has been living rent-free in my head ever since, and I already know I'll be back the next chance I get.

Some dishes were better prepared than others, but overall, the food was solid across the board. If you enjoy making your own spring rolls, you'll love the grilled pork skewers. The pork is super tender and has such a incredible flavor profile of lemongrass, garlic, fish sauce, and more. Rolled up with the woven vermicelli noodles and fried wonton crisps in a rice paper, you get a wonderful combination of texture in a single bite. The other crowd favorite of the night was the bánh xèo -- the stuffed rice crepe. The bánh xèo here is by far the best one that I've ever had, even surpassing ones I had in Vietnam. The outside was insanely crispy and and was surprisingly not particularly oily, while the inside was loaded with fillings. Two other dishes that were well received by the group was the betel leaf wrapped grilled beef and the sugar cane shrimp. The beef had a very similar flavor profile as the pork, but the texture was a lot more lean. The shrimp had a bouncy, yet firm texture to it, and was very well-seasoned. My only qualm with the shrimp dish is that the sugarcane did not actually have any sweetness to it. There's fish sauce on the table along with a shrimp paste sauce, but to be honest, every dish we had was so flavorful on its own, the sauces aren't even needed. The only dish that we ordered that fell short was the grilled river shrimp. The presentation of the shrimp is impressive and very photogenic, but the flavor was lacking and the cook was inconsistent. Some people had shrimp that was undercooked -- borderline raw, and on the other end of the spectrum, others had shrimp that was so overcooked, that it was very difficult to remove the shrimp from the shell without completely tearing the meat. That said, everything else we ordered was well-prepared, and very tasty. Service was good throughout the meal, and I would definitely come back again for a meal with a large group. 4.5 experience rounding up to a 5.

There were plenty of tables available around 11AM on a weekend. Street parking is decently easy to find in the area. I ordered their braised duck leg noodle with wonton and ho fun. Food came out almost instantly, I was amazed by the speed. The broth was absolutely delicious!!! It tasted so homey and cozy, like just pure distilled chicken goodness. With a hit of garlic and chili oil, this is one of the best, simplest broths I've tasted in a restaurant. It is almost as good as my mom's. The wonton skins were a tad overcooked, but the meat filling was bouncy, juicy, fresh, and flavorful. Similarly, the ho fun rice noodles were a bit overcooked and broke apart easily. The duck was another high point of the meal. It was so tender it fell off the bone, and it was flavorful with plenty of meat. I love love duck, and I was impressed by the meat here. It paired nicely with the pickled veggies served alongside my bowl. I've just found my new obsession, I would eat anything paired with this beautiful, clean, clear, flavorful soup !!

The last two Saturdays in San Francisco have been not as sunny as people want them to be. One thing I always like to get in those days soup. When the sun is down I go to get Pho Ga at a Vietnamese restaurant. So I decide to pay An Chi a visit. On a weekend stroll on Geary boulevard in SF I landed at An Chi. Inside there is plenty of seating and it has an interesting and welcoming decor. The menu has everything from Banh Mi to different Buns like Bun Rieu to Bun Cha Gio Ga Nuong. I decided to get Garlic Noodle with Five Spice chicken. The noodles were like Angel hair but with a garlicky taste. I then I got the Pho Ga and the broth was tasty and it was refreshing . The noodles were fresh and chicken was tender. Overall a great place to grab Vietnamese food in SF. It feels the Fall has already "begun" when there are days in the Summer where there is barely any "sun "and some visitors and tourists get surprise and some are "stun"but you can get something warm like some some Pho along with some "bun" Go to Geary which is a boulevard and not a "street"where they serve lemon grass and bbq "meat" the Summer in SF isn't always sunshine and trying to hide from the "heat"it's also enjoying Pho and garlic noodles which are like Angel hair because An Chi is a good place to "eat"

The staff were both friendly and attentive; they even jumped in immediately to help another table with a spill, which was great to see. We ordered our usual, banh khot. Although this time it wasn't as crispy as I remembered, more fluffier this time, it still satisfied our cravings. We did have to ask for cilantro though since it didn't come with it. Also ordered the grilled pork vermicelli with egg roll. It was a big portion. It came with 2 pieces of thin but big pieces of grilled pork. The pork and dipping sauce was on the more sweeter side. Still need to try their Banh xeo next time.
