Only one table occupied on a Friday at 4PM so we hit the jackpot on timing. We were seated immediately and offered a beverage. We chose a hot tea because it was a little chilly inside. The tea was amazing and was great to enjoy while perusing the menu. It's been awhile since we reviewed our go to Chinese restaurant so we set out to try some new dishes as well as old favorites for a fresh rating: Hot Tea - 10 - Lemon Black Tea from a special partner in China. Wonton Soup - 8 - Good flavor in a clear broth. Wonton tastes good but could use more flavor. A solid version of Wonton soup without the frills. Chicken Fried Rice - 8 - Needs a touch of soy sauce amongst other flavors Chicken Chow Mein - 9 - Almost perfect version of the dish. No flavor needed but always room for some pizzazz. Sweet and Sour Pork - 8 - Oerfectly sweetened sauce but the chicken could use a little more crisp and it could use more charred onions, bell peppers and carrots. Honey Walnut Prawns - 9 - Perfectly crisped prawns and toasted candied walnuts (and I don't like walnuts) but slightly over-sweetened sauce. Almost perfect!!! Chicken and Mixed Vegetable Stir Fry Medium Spicy - 7 - Perfectly cooked vegetables and tender chicken but the sauce amd chicken were on the bland side. Great service throughout the dinner but they do tend to stay in the back of the restaurant servicing DoorDash orders so grab their attention when they walk past! The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food I honestly don't think they raised prices through COVID / inflation. I'm bumping them up to 4 stars...keep cookin! read more

Got this as a to go order. The flavor of the sesame beef was actually good. However, there was not a single piece of meat in the dish. It was literally just fried bread and the sauce. It was actually inedible because of the texture. I had to dump it out. The orange chicken had meat, though it tasted very dry, but the flavor was awful. Second time to this place, Business owner is from canton area in China, he shared with me that he starts the chef career when he was 19 yrs old. He definitely knows cooking! I placed an order for take out and got it in around 20 mins as the lady said when taking my order. - salted fish & chicken fried rice: the rice was fluffy & good. We just threw away $18 worth of Kung Pao Chicken. They used so much fish sauce in the preparation that we thought maybe it was Kung Pao fish. We have eaten there several times, but this was really bad. The restaurant itself has a strong odor of polish remover to make matters worse. read more

I always see this restaurant and have been wanting to try them. My husband wanted Chinese food for dinner and I suggested this restaurant. We ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork, my husband's usual stand by, I ordered the Twice cooked pork belly, Chicken Kung Pao, and we also got Pork Chow mein. We were very pleased with the food and the portions, all of the food had SOOO much flavor!!! I am normally not the biggest fan of sweet and sour pork but this one was excellent, the pork had a nice crunch to the batter. The twice cooked pork belly was very yummy and had a bacon texture I wasn't expecting. I'm usually pretty picky with Kung Pao, and there's was excellent, the only thing missing for me which I'm used to was peanuts. The chow mein was excellent. We will definitely be returning customers, and I want to also give the dim sum a try. I can't wait to try more of what they have to offer, I'm just sad I haven't tried them sooner. read more

What a surprise gem along the way between South Lake Tahoe and Bay Area, along US-50. Husband and wife own the place and the husband is the chef. If you are into authentic Cantonese cuisine, this place really has that "wok energy" that nowadays harder and harder to fine. They make their own XO sauce so make sure to try XO sauce dishes. I love the restaurant's name. Especially the Chinese name (荷花八弄) sound very poetic. The dining room in Lotus 8 is beautiful. The good thing is their foods are delicious, and the services are excellent! Lotus 8 Asian Cuisine is in a strip mall on Blue Ravine Road, very close to Folsom Blvd. Very convenient location. The dining room is pretty big compared to most Chinese restaurants. I love the high ceiling with the beautiful chandelier. I have my lunch there a couple of times. The foods are delicious. The services are outstanding! We had our yummy Chinese dishes on our table less than 15 minutes after we ordered them. The parking lot is spotless and looks very safe to me. I have been eating here since the original Lotus 8 opened around 9 or 10 years ago. I heard the current owner took over last year. A group of us came on Saturday thought give the new chef/owner a try. They brought out food really fast and refill our water pretty quick; however the soup is warm water with a bit of veggie in it, rice is hard, beef is plain, tofu pot is sweet, more veggie than pork in a pork dish, basically nothing even taste near OKAY. Good thing is there is a Chinese bakery at the old Starbucks, we get to eat some dim sum after leaving Lotus 8 hungry. One star for the water! read more

I highly recommend coming here! The sichuan chicken was by far my favorite dish I ordered, though everything else was also amazing. It was flavorful, crispy, and the chicken is tender. The restaurant has an ample amount of space and is very clean! It's the perfect place for a lunch date or family gathering. Average food, no service standards. We came in with a group of 5. We were rushed to order our food and the service was okay. It was not worth it for us to even tip at that point. The lady chased all the way to our car and argued with us to tip at least 10-20%. We always tip. But we are not entitled for it if we don't feel like the service was upto to the expectations. She said "don't come again, if you don't want to tip. This is not the American way". And the other guy in the green shirt comes out and starts cussing at us. So professional! Surprisingly that might even be the owner. We didn't eat your average food for FREE. We paid for that stuff. Cussing and chasing your customers like that is cheapest you can get. SHAMEFUL. We have never had such low level treatment. Even in Asia lol. This will be a funny incident to remember everytime we will go out for Chinese food haha. We were shook by how that went. You want tips?
