We loove Phorage and order from here often. My favorite two things are the imperial roll and the garlic noodles. This was our first time in person and the delicious smell hit us immediately. Great service, cute place, plenty of sitting room. The shrimp pho with beef broth hit the spot. My fiancé raved about the waffle fries, and the spring shrimp rolls were refreshingly perfect. Probably one of the worst pho spots I've tried. When you walk in, there's a strong lingering smell of fish sauce throughout the entire restaurant. It doesn't matter where you sit, the smell is very noticeable. I ordered the wagyu beef pho and added meatballs. When the bowl arrived, the broth had that same heavy fish sauce smell, which explains the overall scent in the restaurant. For me, it was overpowering and took away from the balance of the broth. I also noticed the meatballs were sliced in circles instead of being cut into halves or quarters. It made the portion feel smaller, and for an extra $3, it didn't feel worth the add on. Chili oil is also an additional add on of 1.50 which is crazy. It's disappointing because I've been trying to find a good pho spot on the west side of LA, but unfortunately this wasn't it. This one is a hard pass for me. read more

Enjoyed my lunch here. It has a convenient parking lot and a comfortable informal dining area. Split the clay pot eggplant and tofu dish and the garlic noodles with my dining companion which made for a delicious pairing. Yum! read more

I frequent this spot, it has been my "go to" for whenever I had a pho craving. However portion and quality has significantly decreased. I paid around $30, to get a bowl of pho delivered... egregious I know & even more so when the food was super disappointing and had a insulting(hardly any) amount of chicken within it. Don't think I can justify coming here again. read more

Phorage's oxtail pho is absolutely delicious! They didn't skimp on the oxtail at all -- it was so rich and tender that I didn't even need to add the rare steak (I'll know better next time). I did throw in some bok choy, and it turned out to be one of the biggest, most satisfying bowls of pho I've ever had. I even asked for the noodles on the side since I knew I couldn't finish it all -- and it was still plenty! So worth it, especially now that the weather is cooling down. One star for the imperial rolls. The rolls itself were good, crunchy, and served with fresh lettuce and mint. The sauce could be better--the taste is more vinegar taste than it it sweet with no heat. The pho--the presentation is good, however the broth is really bland like watered down. No salt or aromatics from the typical pho spices. It has a lingering unpleasant sour taste to it and not from a fresh lime either. I don't know if it's from something that was spoiled. It was probably the worst pho I have had. read more

Most average pho restaurant on the west side Ordered a rare steak and tendon pho (with meatball sub) First of all, let's talk about the good stuff. The noodle texture is quite chewy which is nice, and the wagyu rare steak inside the pho is decent. Unfortunately, for a pho that costs $18+, I'm expecting way more than what it taste like.. 1. The broth doesn't taste like beef, so I guess it only makes sense if their broth is vegan to taste this bland. If the broth doesn't even taste the same or better than a instant pho, I think there's nothing much to make it redeemable 2. Point 1 is valid enough to not come back because I had to put a lot of sauce to make the broth taste like something, the broth is literally tasteless, barely any flavour, I could not tell what's the reason why it taste that way 3. Parking is impossible 4. Service is alright Twice is enough, not gonna come back. Not an authentic pho restaurant. It's more of an Asian Viet fusion as they haves Japanese, American, Mexican viet options. Tldr, would not come here again because it was pricey, bad quality, uncomfortable seating, in Palms, & there's way better viet places on the westside in nicer areas such as Pho Fever Bistro on Barrington. From BEST to LEAST best: * Veggie & Chicken IMPERIAL ROLLS ($12) - the crispy rice paper wrapping was a fun change in pace but the stuffing was soggy, oily, non fresh chop suey vegetables of carrots, mushrooms and very little chicken. There was such a minor almost indistinguishable distinction between the chicken & veggie roll which now explains why both of them cost the same, $12/plate. The rice paper wrapping was slightly chewier than expected too. Would get again. *JIDORI CHICKEN $16 - looks like Yoshinoya but extremely tender and flavorful chicken. Bonus points for such a big portion. I'm not usually a fan for ordering chicken and rice because I can typically grill that myself but at the very least this was an enjoyable dish. Would get again. * THAI TEA - drink was nice since it wasn't that sweet, but the only reason why it wasn't that sweet was because it tasted very watered down and barely tasted like "thai tea." Would not get again even if free. * WAGYU BEEF PHO $17 - broth didn't taste great. More like a residue filled bone broth where you can see the oil layer at the top separate from the beef bone broth residue of the soup. Pho noodles were the right size and consistency but a bit too chewy and hard if you don't let it soak in the soup for a while (reason being is because when we ordered a side pho noodles, the noodles were dried instead of soft & rehydrated first. There were very little noodles per bowl but a generous serving of tender meat. Would not get again. * BIRRIA PHO $16.95 - instead of bean sprouts there were chopped up cabbages. The beef in the soup was more dry and coarse than the wagyu beef. Soup was more of a spicy tomato soup as opposed to an aromatic birria soup. Would not get again. * Chicken WONTON $11 - nothing special. Wonton wrapper was thin. Chicken flavor & filling was ok. Doused in regular soy sauce base. Would not get again. Ambiance: * 3, 4 table seatings of metal chairs and wooden counter tops * One long bar table top with metal bar chairs with no backings * One long face the wall table top with metal chairs with backings * Two bathrooms, semi clean * Free parking lot * Style is casual read more

I ordered take out from Phorage. The packaging was much appreciated! There was a top container that held all of the noodles and veggies so that they didn't get soggy. The broth was on the bottom part of the container. Vegan Pho - The amount of noodles were abundant but I do wish there were more veggies and a variety of them. It only came with a small amount of chopped bok choy and a handful of tofu. The broth also had a cinnamon like taste which I was surprised about but it was still enjoyable. Not sure if I'd order from here again. I'm a vegetarian so this was the main item I could get. If they improve their veggie selection I would reconsider! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Perry C.

Chef Perry is a Los Angelino by way of San Francisco by way of Brooklyn and has brought along all the experiences of his incredible culinary path into the birth of his neighborhood friendly take on modern Vietnamese cuisine. His attention to ingredients and technique are apparent in the food and his mantra of minimalist simplicity translates well with the bold flavors of the well composed menu. If you see Chef Perry at the restaurant feel free to chat with him he's got a ton of stories and if you're a chef that needs some guidance he's always willing to lend an open ear! I have a yelp account so I am a food critic now! Granted, we came at a dead time around 4.. but between the very instagram friendly 'hip' industrial decor, and a modern over priced banh mi sandwich, we left pretty disappointed. We ordered a "natural pork" vermicelli, and a berkshire pork banh mi. The ipad attendant waiting for her break was rude while we were ordering, until the end when we asked for a box. (you know, the "I can't be bothered" look) We sat through 30 minutes worth of terrible band music before what we ordered hit the table. Banh mi - solid sandwich. The bread, meat, and pickles all check out. Vermicelli - A lady with no auto insurance has rear-ended me at a red light, I've lost my brother to a cult, and this was still the biggest disappointment of 2017. The dish arrived with 'locally sourced' week old bean sprouts with a side of chopped romaine and mint, next to a cha gio roll deep fried in old oil with bits of burnt residue, and re-grilled or air-dried in partial marinade natural pork placed on top of poorly revived rice noodles. I poured the fish sauce "vinaigrette" over the plate while wondering how much rent on the west side must cost for them to think it was reasonable to charge $11.50 for the dish. Or how they spent a whole 30 minutes putting together total garbage on a plate. The reviews look like they're inconsistent in their dishes, so I thought I'd share. A star docked for each 7 minutes it took for the food to hit the table. If you have to come here, get the banh mi! read more

I had a horrible experience here. I would be ashamed if I were the owner of this establishment, I feel completely disrespected as a woman!!! I went to pick up my food for take out and when I entered I was the only one waiting for food. I told the lady at the front that I was here to pick up my food, and she said give me a minute while it looked like she was ringing in a check, fine. Then, maybe 5 minutes later 1 man comes in to pick up their food, and we are waiting for the lady at the front to help us. Another lady comes over from the back and asks the man if he's waiting for food, then checks on his food for him but COMPLETELY IGNORES ME, a woman, and does not ask about what I'm waiting for, and walks away to the back. After this, 2 more men walk in. Then the lady at the front is done with her previous task and again COMPLETELY IGNORES ME while she helps the men first. She asked all 3 men what they were waiting for etc. before even acknowledging me. Again, I entered the business first and I could see that my food was ready to be picked up. Only after all of the men had been helped was I then given my food. I do not care how good the food is here, I will not be returning to this place EVER! They clearly are totally fine with disrespecting women. read more

The flavors are solid. Lots of depth for what they claim as no MSG Pho. Always the cynic, I suspect what they meant to say was no "added" MSG, because usually, there is some MSG hidden in the sauces used, which most restaurants ignore. But if this is truly MSG-free, and the broth is completely made from scratch, it is some amazing feat. The flavorful broth is neither too salty or too bland. Really hits the spot. My complaints are the service time. Yeah, it was a busy Saturday right after opening, but 45 minutes for a bowl of Pho is a bit too long, especially for a grumpy noodle lover like me. Especially for a restaurant that seems to try to push efficiency by making customers get their own water. I will check this place out in a couple of months maybe after they get their service up to par. As for now, great food, but questionable service. 3 stars. read more

Pho is pho is pho is pho. Pho is fresh. Pho is not ramen. The aromatics and herbs that are served with it are there for you to use to customize the dish. The broth is not supposed to be a flavor bomb. You bomb the flavor yourself. They did a good job with the pho. It hit the spot and was a good value. We didn't get the imperial rolls, but we did get the veggie imperial rolls. We weren't thrilled by the flavor, but you don't need to be flavor packed when the dipping sauce is that good. The dipping sauce was absolutely delicious. So powerful. Umami, acid, sweet, salty, etc. Yum. The texture on the rolls was good, but could be improved. They didn't hold together too well. The real gem here is the jidori chicken. Flawless dish. Chicken well cooked and the sauce was a 10/10. Jidori chicken, flawless victory. read more

If i could give 0 stars i would. I never write reviews but this place deserves the worst. Ordered online and they were backed up 1 hour than expected pick up time with no explanation. Place was packed in front with people waiting for food with no one at the counter to explain. I called and asked the wait time. They said one hour longer with no explanation or apology. I then told him that they should have someone at the counter to explain to waiting people and the response was "yeaaaah". The stupidest response ever. No one should go to this place. I understand this is the west side of LA but If youre gonna charge $40 for 2 then at least give us $40 worth for 2 ..which I know is impposible at a Pho restaurant.. I really wanted to like this place. BC it's very close to my house. After I read the reviews we decided to get beef pho and oxtail pho and Imperial roll for appetizer, The waiter brought both pho before the appetizer and veges , limes for the pho.. We had to eat the pho without bean spruts and lines and all the greens.... I didn't like the broth at all. Something was taste very strong but I don't know what it was. Imperial roll was just ok. Little bit too oily... I think it's way over priced. Pho was $9-11 and egg rolls was $7. I don't know if I want to come back. read more

The oxtail pho is really good. Comes bone-in. The 2 times I went service was weird. Seems like they get overwhelmed when more than 3 tables are occupied. Each time they forgot the drink order before the pho arrived. And when they finally (after a few reminders) took care of the drink orders, 1 was missing. This happened both times.
