TL;DR I prefer their sister restaurant Pho Ba Co. First, I didn't like how inconsistent the portions were. We ordered two of the same bowls (P2 Rare Steak); both came to the table at the same time, and one had significantly more broth than the other one did. Like about an inch if you measure by "height". Second, these inconsistent portions were abysmal. I paid about $14.45 for a regular bowl at Pho Ba Co, and I felt that bowl had MORE than the large bowl HERE ($15.65). And the difference between a regular and a large? A joke! It just had like a bit more broth and that was it. Maybe that's where the missing broth went, it came from our P2 order. And third, the taste was just okay. The noodles were a bit clumpy, but it was fine after a couple stirs. Broth temperature could have been hotter, those rare steaks stayed pinkish. I did like the balance of salty and savory in the broth though, none overpowered the other. All is not lost. The pork egg rolls were crispy, crunchy, and tasty. There's plenty of outdoor tables and umbrellas for al fresco dining. And parking was pretty easy. Still, I'm not really in a rush to come back again. read more

Growing up, Pho Tasia was my local pho/Vietnamese food shop that was close by and convenient. It's been at its current location for over 15 years, and although it has changed ownership, has maintained high quality food and service. The pricing is a bit on the expensive side, but I understand since we are in Irvine and the state of the economy. I used to dine-in here a lot more, but have been getting to-go more often. For dine-in, the servers are friendly and attentive; they would be quick to refill waters, meet requests, and get the check out when we were ready. I like the decorations inside and that it is well-lit. My go-to orders are the special combo pho (with rare steak, meatballs, brisket, and tripe) or grilled beef with their garlic butter yellow rice, and egg rolls. The pho is flavorful and the noodles are well-cooked and complement the broth well. They offer a generous amount of meat and even though this isn't the best pho, it hits the spot when I'm craving it and want to stay local. The grilled beef is always tender and flavorful, mixed with the garlic butter rice and some fish sauce, and this combination never disappoints when I order it. The rice also comes with some broth and veggies on the side. Egg rolls are pretty standard sized, but the filling has remained the same all these years and something I look forward to as part of my meal. The same quality is maintained when ordering to-go as well. I will definitely come back here and plan on continuing to support my local pho place. One of my favorite places to eat - and my #1 choice for pho! I frequent the place often enough that the staff knows my face and my usual order. The staff are all very friendly with lots of smiles and an eagerness to serve. The place is very comfortable with plenty of seating inside and outside. I love the shrimp pho! The broth is very complex with lots of flavors. Adding the herbs, sprouts and other items makes for a fantastic meal. The spring rolls are also great! Right across the street from Tanaka Farms made this a very convenient place to grab lunch after a morning at the farm. There is a good amount of outdoor seating in the plaza and the tables are over 6 ft distanced. Portions were generous. The four stars are for their truffle banh mi empanadas. I was wanting something different for a party I was hosting and this was it. I took the opportunity to eat there first to try it out so I could make a final decision. It was a big hit at the party. It's different from the usual Asian food served at parties. It's not like the Mexican empanadas but shaped like one. The texture is that of a banh pate chaud. Light and crispy. I'm very impressed and my guests really enjoyed them. They also have a shrimp, crab and cheese empanada which was not to my liking. As for this pho, it's not the best nor is it bad. Discovered this place close by where we live. Like most restaurants in our area they all tend to close a little early. We have been here several times and would recommend. The flavor is good, portions generous and relatively quick. The service is attentive and friendly. Because the Korean supermarket next door closed down there is plenty of parking. I really wanted this to be one of the authentic and great Vietnamese restaurants in Irvine because it is really close to my house. Unfortunately I have given this restaurant 3 different tries. The first time I ordered the grilled chicken with noodles. This came with an over powered of lemon grass and chili. I could barely eat the chicken because they over marinated the chicken. Second time, I order the cha-siu noodles to go. The broth tasted as it came from pre-made ingredients from a can. I chalked this up to ordering and Take-out vs. eating on the spot. I didn't penalize them since take-out can taste different from the point at the restaurant to home. Thirdly I just ordered the shrimp fried rice. Both my mother-in-law and I thought the fried rice was way too salty. I just believe they cut corners and use cheap ingredients, thus the salty fried rice. I tried to call the owner but unfortunately didn't hear back from them. I am Vietnamese, so perhaps my expectation is a bit higher, BUT good food is universal!! It is unfortunate, because we don't have a GREAT Vietnamese restaurant in Irvine. I don't mind paying for great quality food. We do have a lot of VN restaurant, but they are only OK. It was served with lots of noodles and was quite filling. Beef was on the fattier side which I didn't like, but overall the taste was pretty good. Service was good and quick. I didn't see the spring rolls on the menu so I asked and they said they had it, so I ordered it. I was soon to find out that it's a mixed roll, not just shrimp. I hated every second of it and wish they had told me that there was more than just shrimp. Note to self: don't always assume it's shrimp only. The pho was just okay. This small business is definitely cute and local to the Irvine area. Close by UCI, it is not a surprise when you see local college students here. The atmosphere pre-COVID was definitely lively and youthful. Due to COVID, they take necessary precautions with their masks and making sure that orders are solely to-go. I like how the broth at this location is not overly salty. The meat to noodle ratio is perfect. Noodles are cooked well and they give you a hefty portion. The bowl will fill you up at the end However, I feel that $9.50 for a regular size pho is a bit pricy. They offer two sizes, regular and large. (Large is $10.50). I walked into the restaurant and it was not crowded at all and mentioned to the guy at the front that I was there for a pickup.
