the food at this restaurant is astonishing. i think we ordered a good chunk of the menu and there was not one thing that wasn't stunning. the striped bass thai style melt in your mouth ceviche, crispy treat potato dish, and the flawless rib eye were among my very favorites. the shaved ice strawberry rhubarb panna cotta dessert was dazzling. real showstopper. i think there was also a jasmine jelly? an adventure to eat! oh- and the OYSTERS! delicious spicy green mignonette and crispy fried shallots. obscenely good. i see some reviews saying the portions are tiny. by what standard?! i saw another person claim the rib eye "wasn't filling." i am literally laughing out loud. if your basis for comparison is down home country buffet just say that. plenty of food, price point on par with dining in any city worth eating in. the prices are worth the quality of the food. you will not just get food like this anywhere. grow up. if you don't see the difference between this and Hollywood Upstairs Takeout, that's your problem. unique and strong cocktails, like the lord intended. service was perfect. good lighting and vibe. i also like the shape of the restaurant if that makes sense. try being nice to your bartender, try treating restaurant staff like friends instead of The Help and maybe your experience will improve. you get what you give baby. i will be back!!!!!!!!! forever. read more

The pork belly (scraps). The dish reminds me of something my mother would make and would give us scraps of pork to tame down the hunger. Flavor wise, it was good. But for scraps of bacon and side of sticky rice, it was downright appalling for the price. The Paella was different and I love that idea, still good. And abundance of shellfish, which I love. The rice was crispy which added a nice crunch. The whole fried fish, just like any Americanize Thai place, overly sweet. The shrimp curry, I love the heat level and it was the 2nd best dish we ordered. The rib eye! That is my favorite. The price is steep, but I'd recommend sharing with others. The smokey flavor paired nicely with the sticky rice. It was my favorite dish of the night. For the price, you need to go with a group of people, and pretend you forgot your wallet, and lie that you'd venmo them back money, but ooops forgot until they asked you weeks later. I am not sure I can write enough to do this restaurant justice. The food was unexpected and amazing. The layers of flavor are unparalleled by any restaurant in the Portland area. I went with my two teenage boys and my boyfriend and ... oh my goodness... it was so good. My fave dishes were the fried fish app, ceviche and shrimp curry. Everyone else loved the juicy pork. Good had good flavors. All the food we ordered was great but the desserts were weird to me.

We had to make reservations a couple weeks in advance for dinner on a Friday night. We were looking forward to checking this place out for the first time since the reviews were so good. This was our experience: - Caipirinha drink - very fresh and tasty, but barely any alcohol in it. I'm a lightweight and still felt almost nothing after finishing the whole drink. It was light on alcohol and heavy on ice. - Salad - excellent with lots of fresh herbs - Vegetable curry - very salty and strong flavor to the curry. Only 2 mushrooms and a few scattered veggies. We got takeout curry at a Thai restaurant on my husband's way home from work earlier this week; it was half the price, 4 times the portion size, and brimming with veggies. Phuket can't even measure up to a $10 curry elsewhere. - Paella - beautifully presented but super over-salted. Imho, good cooking should let the flavors of the food stand out. Here, they seem to think that eating Asian food should be like licking a salt brick. I brought it up to the server, who had them remake it with less seasoning. She was gracious about it yet mentioned that she doesn't hear people complain about salt much. Yet I read these reviews on Yelp and it seems to be a regular occurrence. When they remade it, it was alright, not amazing but at least edible. The service and vibe were great, and the drink and salad were very good... but if the entrees don't measure up, that determines the whole experience. And it sucks to spend $100 on a meal for 2 people and not even enjoy it. read more

From the service to the cocktails to the menu, everything was phenomenal! I've never left a review before but this place definitely deserves one. The vibes were amazing! The food, delicious! And the cocktails were all so tasty and refreshing. We had a large party (family member's birthday) and ordered the entire menu, so deciding which dish was my favorite would be near impossible. We had a great experience here! Host was very accommodating and although they didn't have a table to fit our large party they were able to get us right in with tables next to each other. I visited Phuket Cafe for brunch with my friend. When we arrived at the restaurants on a Sunday around 10:30am, we were surprised to see that there weren't many people, and the place was largely empty. It was a fine Saturday morning, so we chose to sit outside. We ordered the french toast, and a couple of other small plates, and the food was REALLY good. I saw that they had steak on the menu, but I wasn't sure whether ordering a steak for brunch at a Thai place would be such a good idea. But I went ahead and ordered it anyway, and our minds were BLOWN! All of the food, especially the steak, was so well prepared, seasoned and flavorful. I would definitely go back again! read more

Oysters: the oysters were the highlight of the meal. the nahmjim was a great compliment to the oysters. this got me so hyped as our first course. pandan cheese roti: this was not a roti. it was a pandan, cheese quesadilla with a side of condensed milk for dipping. what a mess of texture. pandan is such a light flavor and it gets lost with the richness of the cheese and the sweetness of the cream. it just seems so unrefined and i was surprised that it was on the menu. thai paella: what a shame. there was barely a layer of rice, it wasn't crispy, it was oily, the sauce to rice ratio was probably 2:1 so your palette just got destroyed. however, the seafood was cooked perfectly. eggplant: the crispy chili's ruined the whole dish. i don't know if the oil they used to fry it in was old or if they over cooked it but it was insanely bitter. miang plaa jaramed: on the menu it says whole fried pompano but we ended up getting sliced pieces of fish that were clearly frozen and then cooked to oblivion. the fish was so overcooked it almost tasted and felt like someone microwaved their fish dinner and forgot about it. the sauce, however, was amazing. i ended up eating the sauce with rice togeth and it was great. super disappointed with this dish. tres leches cake (can't remember the name): wow what a mess. we basically got wet bread with fried chilis on it. not to mention, the chili's tasted like old oil and had a bad bitter taste to it. i, honestly, could not even swallow it. i honestly don't know how the restaurant is okay with serving a dish like that. water service was okay. the cups have really find grooves to them and my initial thought was 'how much food and skin particles get stuck in there that just don't get cleaned?' read more

Amazing flavors! Rebecca was our awesome server. She is extremely knowledgeable about the menu and made the dinning experience even better. I dined here on 4/29th Fri night. The wait list was long. We waited about 1 hour and 20mins. You are encouraged to order in family style. Shortly after ordering, food come out one at a time but they com out quickly. We ordered curry puff. This was delicious. So good that we ordered a second. Curry sauce was super flavorful and I think really liked the side of the pickles that came with it. Eggplant side dish was a thumbs up as well. We also ordered the side of potatoes. But my favorite was the curry main course that came with shrimps. Flavors were spot on. Super good. My friends ordered the paella with mussels. They really like the flavor in the rice. But they weren't digging biting into tiny pieces of dirt found in the mussels. The stars of the restaurant are definitely the flavors. They do it really well here. I was impressed because they reminded me how food is truly prepared all over Southeast Asia. Finally, restaurant owners are realizing, customers want authentic flavors. I didn't give 5 stars because my husband was a little confused with the price points. Curry main dish is like $16. But the pork chops are $47. Then the beef was like $65. We went here for the first time recently and had been excited to check it out! Arriving close to opening time we were easily seated. For the most part the food was delicious and timely. We raved to our server that we were loving it as 1st timers. It was an early in the week night and wasn't that busy, so we enjoyed the chill atmosphere. BUT . . . within 5 minutes of getting our bill, after spending a little over an hour for dinner and plenty of money, we were told to hurry up and vacate the table as there was a party with reservations waiting. I let it go the 1st mention but when the staff person came again to hurry us up few minuted later, I thought it very rude. I asked if they were a reservation only restaurant because maybe I was mistaken? They said no. But then said they had 'accommodated' us by seating us. Although there were plenty of tables sitting empty and turning over as we ate and it was getting a little busier, but to try to rush us out like that? Then they walked away in the middle of trying to politely discuss it with them. How is having a new customer to your new restaurant an accommodation?? It's simply not a paying customer's job to help a restaurant manage their turn over and timing, especially if it has non reserved seating. In business that's not who you want to negatively impress. It's too bad because I would have liked to return and even said to my dinner partner that it could've been a new favorite. But no place is worth being treated like a number. read more
