I have to say that is is disheartening to write this review because I want to like this restaurant. It has all the makings of a family owned Italian restaurants from my old home town except the food. First time, had meatballs and sausage and the sausage was raw. Took me a while to try again but did last night. Restaurant was empty but waited 10 minutes for a server as they were confused as to who's table it was....still servers were nice. Ordered fettuccine carbonara....excited for the richness of the dish but I was served a Luke warm bowl of soup with noodles. The pancetta was fatty as they had not cooked it enough to render the fat. The sauce had no richness or creaminess and was very very liquid and finally....it wasn't hot. My wife got lasagna which was good but not hot either (Luke warm). sadly it's my last try....I would avoid this restaurant . read more

If your looking for an underwhelming experience then this is the place for you. I was willing to overlook the outdated asbestos ceiling tiles and fluorescent lighting remnants- but it really is the epitome of your experience - you get lackluster food with a lackluster experience. From the app which was fried tasteless moosh mozzarella and raw tomatoes, to a clump of a salad arugula when I swear the cook spat the lemon juice on top and called it good. Top it off with a Marsala veal that was both tough and chalked full of pepper. The best thing was really the fresh garlic butter and warm bread. I wouldn't send my worst enemies to eat at this talentless cafe. There's too many better experiences on the square, try any of them. read more

Not so good food and very slow service. We had dinner with friends. It took more than an hour to get the main meal. One friend ordered pizza. The pizza was cold. After she complained, it was reheated, but still very soggy. Other friends said that their food was so-so. Our dinner lasted about 2.5 hours (appetizer and main meal) - just too long. read more

It was ok. Service was good and friendly. Environment didn't wive much of an Italian vibe and. When arrived it had bad mild smell ( like they has recently mopped with a dirty mop) not sure what was it. I tried Piastra in 2018 with my husband... and it was bad. So bad I don't think I had ever left a yelp review before that one but I needed to warn people not to spend their hard earned dollars here. Fast forward to 2023 we are on a date night and decide to try Piastra from dessert and drinks. It was even worse than I remember. We had Tiramisu and the milk in it had clearly gone sour. We also ordered cannolis and they were not good. The restaurant was FREEZING and I was facing this sad bathroom hallways that had high chairs lined up in it. We could also see the servers work station where they just filled up the water glasses at the hand washing station and I needed to get out of there ASAP. Thankfully they did not charge us for the tiramisu as we sent it back. We will not be returning for a third time. read more

My son and his girlfriend took me and my husband here on Mother's Day. Kate ordered the veal and had to send it back, it was so bad. My husband said that the pasta he ordered was extremely bland and he asked for additional garlic and pepper flakes to try and give it some flavor. I ordered the sea bass, which tasted a tiny bit off. I had a really bad reaction to it and have spent the last 2 days mostly in the bathroom. I am sure there must have been bacteria in the dish. I do not recommend this place under any circumstances. If I could give it a rating lower than 1star, I would. read more

Went to Piastra last night. The food was excellent. The salads, the shrimp Puntanesca with ricotta gnocchi was fabulous. Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful. My family of four had reservations at 5:15 and were the only people in the restaurant for a good 30 minutes. Yet after ordering shortly after we were seated, the kitchen took over an hour to serve our dinner. And one of our meals arrived 15 minutes after everyone else, so we just packed the dish up to go at that point. The service was terrible, with no apologies for the long wait. My boyfriend and I were walking around the square when we saw this Italian restaurant and decided to go in. We got the fried mozzarella risotto balls which were absolutely delicious. We both ordered a drink and they were very strong which we appreciated. My boyfriend ordered the lasagna with a meatball and he said it was very good. I've heard mixed opinions about Piastra and finally decided to check it out for myself. Came here on Sunday and the restaurant was quite deserted. In spite of that, the service was quite slow and it took forever to place our food orders. The server was a smart a**, too. For my drink I ordered a manhattan and it was quite decent and came in a snifter per request. And they have the lovely dark cherries! For my app I tried the beef carpaccio and it was quite disappointing. Some bites were still frozen! The whole thing came out a watery frozen mess. My entree was Brodetto - seafood Stew with Clams, Mussels, Shrimp, Fish and fried Calamari in a Red Pepper Broth with house-made spicy Pork Belly Sausage over Anson Mills Heirloom Hominy Polenta. I have requested clams and fried calamari subbed for other extra seafood. The portion size was quite small but the flavor was nice. I liked the polenta, too. Especially, the whole hominy in it. I wish my camera didn't die, would have posted pics. Overall: full bar, decent atmosphere, slow service, patio, somewhat limited menu, 2 hour square parking. We've got allergy issues, so good, real Italian food is hard for us to find. They have a gluten free option for nearly everything on the menu, and everything we had was really good. We told our server about the allergies, and she was very knowledgeable about the issues and about the options they had for us. You'd think this is normal, but it's really not. She brought us a dinner roll after we ordered. A gluten free dinner roll. I can't tell you the last time I had bread at the table before a meal. It was wonderful. Main course was chicken Parmesan, also gluten free. It's pan cooked by itself so there's no risk for cross contamination. It came with spaghetti, also gluten free. Noodles were cooked right and didn't "feel" like typical mushy gluten free noodles. Delicious. For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate cake. It's a yummy cake with a hard chocolate shell and an Italian meringue on top. They set it on the table and then ceremoniously poured the most fabulous homemade caramel sauce over it. Soooooo good. Worth every calorie, for sure. The waitress (Kiki, maybe?) was top notch. The chef came out and talked with us about his gluten free options and to thank us for coming in. This was such a pleasant surprise to find as one of the best Italian restaurants in Atlanta. Everything is homemade, especially the sauces. We started out with an order of meatballs as an appetizer and right away you could tell these were made by hand with the garlic and spices that you could taste on the inside. They also had this spicy chili sauce which gave a special kick to the the pasta and pizza. Be sure to ask if they have any specials by the chef since they weren't posted or printed and we had to ask for them. Had a great experience at Piastra last night. Our server didn't know we were out celebrating our anniversary but she treated us like we were there for a special occasion. Let us take our time and didn't hover over us, didn't try to rush us to turn the table over. We really enjoyed ourselves. The Insalata di Campo was great...wish I had not split it with my husband. I had the giant ravioli stuffed with mushrooms. Very good. I ate almost all of it which I really should've brought half home. My husband had the spaghetti bolognese which he enjoyed. The desert was AMAZING. Huckleberry pie with ginger gelato. I wasn't crazy about the gelato as the chunks of ginger were a little too big but oh my goodness....the huckleberry pie was sooooooo good. I woke up thinking about it this morning. The best part of the dinner for me was that when I told our server that I have a severe food allergy (peppers-like bell, jalapeno, paprika, etc) she made sure to tell the chef/owner. He came out to reassure me that what I had ordered did not have any of my allergens and he was very knowledgeable about food allergens. He really put my mind at ease. I hardly ever eat out anymore due to my anxiety about my food allergies. I've had so many servers/restaurants brush aside my concern or just not understand what I am saying. It is such a relief to have found a restaurant that really cares about it's customers. I felt so safe with my food that I was able to relax and really enjoy our night out. I was so looking forward to this restaurant, being a small business owner myself, I always cheer for the little guy. However, I was disappointed upon walking in the door... the place is in need of some simple decor updates. It actually looks pretty dumpy. I can definitely overlook dumpy decor' if the food is amazing. It was not. The sausage rigatoni was the best thing served to our table, and the giant ravioli was so bland that I would have sent it back had it been served to me. This was my son's choice, and he didn't want to make a scene by sending it back to the kitchen. I convinced my family to try this place, but I doubt we'll be back. read more

Totally lacking flavor, the carbonara has a strange recipe, the rice balls....were blah. The food was bland, super bland (even the bread) So salt was passed around for everything except the wine and the fried cheese. Visited this place last Saturday night and I have to tell you, very disappointing to say the least. The only reason I did not give it a 1 star was because our server was amazing and tried to make our night better. Let's start off with Ambiance, mediocre at best, place could use a facelift. I felt like I was in a dance studio. Place definitely needs a facelift. Food: Not sure where the chef learned to cook but he needs to understand what seasoning food means. The calamari appetizer, which was "gluten" free, made up for the lack of gluten by adding a pound of salt. Rice balls were ok, but mozzarella in the center was not melted, thus why they were a little cold. The chicken Marsala....hmmm...chicken on top of pasta with some sort of purple brown sauce on it which did not even come close to Marsala. The two fish dishes were good although they could not figure out the correct sides on those dishes, but, hey, I can see where you confuse fingerling potatoes with Parmesan truffle fries.... SMH.... Finally, the Rigatoni and sausage pasta dish, tomato creamy sauce tossed with rigatoni...which probably had 0.5 ounces of sausage in it. Flavor was ok, just lacked substance. Server apologized to us several times but not her fault, you can tell the head cook had an attitude with how he was responding to the staff. Also, when the old lady came over, either a manager or owner, she had the best attitude (sarcasm) like she really cared..... we will not be back..... good luck! read more
