Been here a few times - rating is cumulative. The last time I went I had a clam cioppino dish. It was really tasty. On the small side if you get a 'half' plate. For those with small appetites. My wife got the chicken parmesean and it was really tasty, a great marinara for the pasta. Service is good, ambiance is nice (upscale), but the food is overpriced since it's in the village. I was left with mixed feelings about their pene pasta dish. The broccoli was exceptionally well seasoned and cooked possibly the best broccoli I've had, but other than that, the dish was appallingly incongruent! I'm still baffled to what the sauce was. It was a very watery tomato sauce with chunks of over-peppered tomatoes and unseasoned chicken in it. I have no idea why they didn't just go with a creamy sauce as would have complimented the broccoli and compensated for the inherit dryness flavor of chicken. Anyhow the experience was OK for the price and you'll definitely want the small portion unless you plan on taking half of it home. Of course you'll get your pasta slightly undercooked, in accordance with the unwritten laws of Italian restaurants delivering "authentic" taste, and you do get the whole cheesy Parmesan cheese tell-me-when-to-stop song and dance. I liked the ambiance, the decor was simple and worked well, enough spacing between tables, and there was adequate space on the table, even though the booth was slightly small for my size a person. This is a review of my first visit to Piatti - lunch with a friend on a weekday. It is a nice atmosphere - light and airy. The seasoned balsamic that came with the bread was honestly FABULOUS. We had the calamari to start and it was also fabulous! I'm not big on breaded calamari, but this was not over-breaded or over-cooked as it typically is. The plate was truly wonderful. The green beans and fennel root were unique but welcome partners to the calamari. In addition, it was a generous plate considering the price. I had the tre colori salad which was a blend of savory/bitter greens (arugula, endive and radicchio) with gorgonzola, almonds and figs. The dressing was a bit heavy-handed for my taste and my cheese snob palate noted the gorgonzola was not of the highest quality, but it was still a lovely salad and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My friend had the Caesar which she was disappointed with. It had very little flavor according to her. At this point in time we had enjoyed a nice lunch with excellent service. We expected to just nibble our entrees and take them with us since we'd already had bread, calamari and salad. But we were still looking forward to tasting them! Honestly, the entrees were a HUGE disappointment. We should have just skipped them. My friend ordered the chicken penne (I wondered why she chose that when you can make that at home very easily) and she said it was bland and boring. She planned to take it home and spice it up a bit. I ordered the small portion of the butternut squash ravioli. I really wanted to LOVE this ravioli but I just didn't. It came with baked apples and cinnamon. Don't get me wrong, I love baked apples and cinnamon, but I was looking for a savory entree, not a dessert. And the ravioli itself? Tasteless. I ate one at the restaurant and took the other three home in a box. I ended up tossing them in the yard waste because I had no interest even as leftovers. I would not hesitate to lunch at Piatti again although I would skip the entree and just do appetizer and salad. All in all, it was a nice experience and a fairly reasonable price. I just wish we could take back the entrees. If I went there for dinner I would be VERY careful about what I chose. But you just can't beat the calamari and salad for lunch! read more

I like Piatti. The staff is incredibly friendly, the food is consistently flavorful, and the pricing is adequate. Some favorites include the pesto gnocchi (seriously the best potato dumplings in the city, fluffy little pillows of delish) the mozzarella/roasted red pepper appetizer, and the arancini. Always enjoy the dining experience at this restaurant. Started off with a really good bread which is really yummy. I usually ordered the linguine with clams, which is usually good (but can be very spicy sometimes). Ordered their menu of the day as well, and tasted okay. Beautiful Restaurant! Very clean with a updated interior, menu was small but easy to find something for everyone. My family is Italian, I found the food to be very authentic. Waitress was friendly but somethings said were odd. Ordered the Margarita Pizza and was pleasantly surprised with the delicious fresh mozzarella. Slow service but enjoyable time spent. Will be back! Update: Visited again and had a wonderful dinner with my family! Such a great restaurant! Had the greatest waitress, her name was Haley! Such a sweetheart! Will definitely be back soon! read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch with a friend. We shared the basket of warm focaccia, which we both enjoyed. It's a pretty good serving size of bread for the price. My friend ordered some type of pasta with pancetta. I got the $16 lunch special that included an 8" Margherita pizza and Caesar salad. I liked the pizza. However, considering it was wood fired, I expected a bit more of that classic char on bottom. The salad was ok. It was topped with freshly shaved Parmesan and loads of croutons (which are the best part IMO). The dressing was a tad bland. Overall, it was a decent meal. Oh man, how did I JUST discover the fact that Piatti has a great happy hour menu? Mondays and Tuesdays are up to $25 off a bottle of wine, making most bottles half off! My friend and I shared a $40 bottle of Pinot Grigio making it only $20 due to happy hour. We each had the margarita pizza, our fabulous server Nikki brought over fresh shaved Parmesan and omg it was delicious. The pizza was simple yet perfect. She told us the menu rotated and recommended the rosemary olives, I will certainly try that next time. We will be back for sure. read more

The food here was actually decent and our waiter in the bar area was really great. However, the price for the portion size is bordering on absurd. There should be no way that this place is rated "$$" for price. Not the most expensive place, but over $80 for two people before tip. Again, some great food and a decent staff, but if you go in expecting more than a small portion for a large price, then you may leave disappointed. Worth a visit to make your own opinion, but we will most likely not return. read more

Ambiance is not fancy or flavorful but okay. I felt this restaurant look better outside than inside. Service was not fast but decent. Food is what you can expect from a mall. The food- I think this restaurant does some menu pretty well and some not so good. Housemade pumpkin ravioli was excellent- I really enjoyed it, but fish (Mahi Mahi) was boring and not impressive. The food was just average. We had the penne with chicken and broccoli. It was very watery and not very flavorful. We also had the chicken breast which was also nothing to rave about. My favorite was the complimentary breads. They tasted really good with the olive oil and vinegar. I've been to Piatti only two times but one thing is for sure, their bread and balsamic vinaigrette is absolutely legendary. It's so delicious! However, their pastas are decent. Both times that I went to Piatti, I got pastas. The first time I went there I had the Penne and it was okay. It was a bit dry but it wasn't anything that I nit-picked about. The most recent time and probably the last time I went would be when I ordered the House Made Linguine. This had clams in it and the clams tasted fishy so I wasn't sure if it was just the dish or if the clams weren't washed well before it was cooked. I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't satisfied either. I don't think I'll go back to Piatti unless a friend suggests it or if there was an occasion that I had to go. read more

Service was great, but the food was really sub-par. The restaurant had a new modern and hip feel to it, but the food that comes out is just limp and tasteless. We ordered several pastas off the menu and a pizza...the meatball pasta was the most disappointing-- meatballs were questionable and bizarre in taste, and the Ceasar salad had leaves that were bruised and incredibly limp...I was expecting at least the salad to be fresh and crisp...but nope. This place has been one of my favorites for as long as I can remember so writing what I'm about to say is hard. I had dinner with my grandpa there recently and we both had their soup. I believe I have food poisoning because my stomach feels nauseous. I'm not sure why this is the only time I've become sick from eating their food...it makes me sad. read more

With great dread I entered this Fritalian-McChain looking beast. However my shopping companion insisted, and it was not to be put off. But really, it was better than I expected. The gnocchi were good and the pesto sauce tasted fresh. The fettucine bolognese was quite OK, but at $16 a bit steep for your basic chain spag bowl. The chocolate tarte was the "must put on the menu" molten chocolate cake that was so way bad a$$ in the 90s, but must now be stopped. read more

The food is great, offering some more unique dishes than the standard italian resaurant. This is a place where a group of my friends and I go for a meal and eat about half of what we get, and the other three eat the remainder, while we eat theirs. The service is always great, great attitudes, great speed, and not TOO attentive (which is a personal pet peeve of mine). The drinks are great, a few of my friends were quite pleased with the selection and ingenuity of the bartenders. It is also one of those places that is just swanky enough to feel like you are going out to a nice place, so you dress up a little. First, let me just say I'm basing my experience purely on the white bean and kale soup along with an order of bread (with seasoned olive oil and vinegar). I didn't expect much when I went here considering they "only" have 3.5 stars. (Then again, some of my favorite places in other cities don't have the stars to prove it.) But when I asked the server how this soup was and specifically if it was more on the healthy side or more on the creamy, flavorful side, she said it was great and specifically had a lot of flavor from seasonings and parm cheese not mentioned in its description. So, I ordered it, a $9 bowl (2 cups) of it. I also ordered the bread, which apparently you are supposed to receive for free (first basket only); however, our server said that policy didn't apply during happy hour (although the soup I ordered was not off the happy hour menu). So, she charged an extra $3; management emailed me via Yelp after their comment below and said, "I apologize for the misunderstanding. Have a good day." It was a charge though, not a misunderstanding--at least not on my part but rather my server's. I got the soup and bread and will say: The soup seemed quite healthy. Granted, I know restaurant food is great at "hiding" unhealthy ingredients, but this soup not only had zero taste of cheese but even was more a kale soup than a white bean and kale; I think I counted about 10 beans total. (Yep, I'm apparently a bean counter.) Perhaps worse yet, or better yet depending on if you are considering taste or waist, there was no greasy residue on my bowl when I finished. Now, it's not a huge loss, as later that night I indulged in other tasty items elsewhere with less guilt. But after specifically asking about the flavor and health-level of this dish and getting exactly the opposite of what I wanted, I wasn't super happy. That said, if you aim for healthy, there you go... and it's about 2.5-3 stars in flavor. As for the bread, I think others have covered this well: It sucks. For $3 (plus tax and tip), I got 5 little pieces of bread. Imagine cutting a 1/2" slice of a baguette and then cutting that circle in half. That was one piece. And like a baguette, it was pretty darn hard--not fresh, not warm, and definitely lacking in flavor: 1-star. What was great, however, was their olive oil and balsamic concoction; absolutely 5-stars. Bottom line: I haven't had the pastas or pizzas, or drinks for that matter, so maybe I'm missing the stars on their menu. Either way, at best they deserve the star rating Yelpers have averaged to. Went here today for the first time. No one greeted us. Waitress was doing her best and she looked like she was covering the whole restaurant alone and least 10+ tables solo. My wife has pretty severe gluten and citrus allergies. Waitress was not knowledgeable but was trying and repeatedly went back to kitchen to triple check. Salad came out for her with just greens, not what she ordered. They said they had a dressing without citrusy but then they didnt and didnt ask but just brought out oil and vinegar... um okay. They didnt offer us bread until I asked for gluten free bread. Food came was tasty but as my wife finished she started to have her citrus allergic reaction. I asked if they had put citrus on anything and the manager? came out and basically told us we were wrong and it isnt possible that there was lemon or citrus on anything. They disappeared with my card for what seemed like forever... I wanted to leave. I felt kind of hostage while they figured out what they did. So we get up and stand by entrance and the manager? had the audacity to tell my wife and us that it isn't possible and maybe she has developed another allergy and should consult her doctor... seriously?! She knows her reaction as it has a very specific set of reactions... like partial throat closure (it isn't a full anaflaxus). They didnt offer to comp anything basically just insulted us after we were very specific from the beginning and treated us like we were making it all up. Really mad, frustrated and all in all $55 without drinks or tip for an insulting experience. I am simply appalled. read more

When seated in the furthest corner next to the table of four people in an otherwise fairly empty restaurant Sunday around 1ish we had fairly low expectations for the duration. The aloof server delivered in quick order my wine flight of Italian whites and my husbands Antinori red. Which, we have visited in Italy. The bread and dipping warm and delicious. Now the food. We are in a shopping center. Low bar expectation. Here is the thing. We learned to cook in Italy so the bar is set high. The prosciutto penne with white wine cream sauce fresh basil and tomato is outstanding. Hot, tender chunks of slow cooked meat. I began to hope this plate of ridiculously perfectly seasoned pasta would never end. My husband had the wood fired baked eggs and Sicilian sausage balls. His only comment when the oversized ramekin was empty "rarely do I want to lick the bowl" flavors, textures." Then a huge smile and reluctance to hand over the dish to the server. Who by the way, when engaged in foodie talk blossomed and told us his favorite cooking dishes and at length we discussed raw oysters and the Taylor shell fish farm. Anyway, we will drive back for the service from Xavier (we won him over! ) and the food which I will think about all week. Nice job for a chain restaurant. Move to Everett. read more

I went here for Valentine's day, and we absolutely loved it! The atmosphere is like an olive garden look, but the service and quality of food was top notch. They also had a couple special add-ons for the night's menu, and I took advantage by ordering the lobster risotto & tenderloin. I can't really give an in-depth review because I didn't even order anything from here. But I did eat bits of my friend's food. It wasn't fantastic but it was pretty good. I remember thinking it was rich. What's i'm really raving about at this place is the complimentary bread that comes out in the beginning. The best I've ever tried in my life! It comes hot and fresh right out of the oven. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The dipping sauce is drool! It's a seasoned balsalmic vinigarette. I meant to eat just a bit b/c i felt guilty for not ordering anything. But I could not stop no matter how hard I tried. The atmosphere was classy and looked like a great "date place."
