Picasso's Pizzeria has such rave reviews so we thought we'd check it out. When we arrived on a Friday night, the wait time was 45 minutes but we were sat within 30 mins. Not too bad! That was a great first impression and the hosts were really nice. When they sat us however, that's when it went downhill. Our server James greeted us. "Hello. How are you? Do you know what you want to get?" Uhh no? We just sat down. And we've never been here before... So James just took our drinks order and that was it. We had trouble deciding what to get, with no help whatsoever from James who let us mumble amongst ourselves. We finally decided on an appetizer and then our meal. James failed to tell us how long it took for a pizza to cook here. There was no introduction whatsoever. No offer to bring our toddlers food before ours. (Because Mac n cheese can't possibly take 30 minutes!!) He never did check in on us either. Someone dropped off our appetizer and left. Which were actually really good. 40 minutes later, the pizza came. The pizza was alright; I'm not sure if it was cause we had bad service or what since everyone claims this is THE pizza place. The name of this restaurant does not do it justice it is not just a pizzeria, though the people I have been there with that love pizza love the pizza here. This is a much better Italian Restaurant & Beyond! I am originally from the Northeast where Italian food is very real and very good, there are serious deficiencies in the quality of Italian food here in Jacksonville. But not at Picasso's! They make meatballs that can compete with the best I've ever had, their sauce while a little bit spicy for me, is fantastic. But here's the kicker, being from the New York area and loving pastrami sandwiches I have been hunting for a decent pastrami sandwich since I arrived in Jacksonville 5 years ago, and until last night I had no success. But last night I had the pastrami sandwich, or correction, the 1/2 of pastrami sandwich, which was the size of a good size pastrami sandwich anywhere else, and found that it was good enough to compete with most of the pastrami sandwiches I've had in the Northeast. To the owners of Picasso's I would say thank you! I would also say, while I don't put your pastrami sandwich in the same class as Katz's Deli in New York City, I think it is better than everything I've had almost everywhere else! I hope you take this as a compliment oh, it is meant to be the highest compliment. So in closing, all I can say to those who have not been to Picasso's, get there as soon as you can, be hungry, and enjoy some of the best food you're going to have in the Jacksonville area. So, since my initial review, I have made Picasso's my "Monday hang" for the weeks I travel to Jacksonville for business. My experience has been consistently great and the food quality is excellent. Dishes that I have had and can wholeheartedly recommend are: All the pizza variations, Chicken Parm Sandwich, Lasagna, Homemade Fettuccine & Meatballs. Salads are fresh and delicious. Their special board always has some good things so don't ignore it. The gooey butter cake dessert is a real treat. Their service staff is possibly the nicest group of folks you will ever meet. Everyone is friendly and highly focused on customer satisfaction. They treat you like you are a guest in their home and make you feel welcome. It wasn't crunchy, but lightly breaded and held together. Almost seemed like it was handmade. Then our pizza: For their 4.99 lunch special, you get two fresh, HUGE delicious slices and a drink. The crust had a slight crunch to it; not too greasy, but just of enough of the "good grease" so you know the pizza is real. I thought I knew the best pizza spots in Jax until I came here. Wow I love this place. It's a much more casual version of an Italian restaurant but the food is DIVINE. We started with the Crispy Risotto Bites and yum yum what an appetizer. We got the large house salad to share and it was delicious. Then my family and I split the Mediterranean pizza and the crusted fish. the pizza was amazing and the fish portion was ginormous. we tried the chocolate cake with strawberry and it was decent, wish I tried the butter cake. Picasso's is delicious for lunch & dinner. I love this little spot. Sometimes it's a wait but totally worth it. When you walk in on the right hand side they have the specials for food and wine on a chalk board with the host waiting to seat you. Every time I've ate here the service has been exceptional. Wow! From the hand cut lines provided with the sparkling water to the delicious bbq chicken pizza, this place is amazing! The gooey butter cake was absolutely delicious and the main course of bbq chicken pizza was outstanding. All of the Food was awesome, we ordered a pizza, lasagna and eggplant parmigiana and the service was excellent.

When we heard that Picasso's was one of the best places to get pizza in the area, we had to check it out. The menu actually covers quite a bit of additional territory, though, including lots of items at a traditional Italian restaurant. Our server told us that pizzas take about a half hour, so, being in no huge hurry, we headed for the signatures menu, and ordered a large Margarita (our favorite, and where we set the bar) and a large Heart of the Mediterranean, intending to take some home with us. Through that time, he did stop by a few more times to give us a countdown, which was nice touch. Clearly we were thinking of Papa John's sized "large", as when the pizzas arrived, our eyes popped out of our heads! The 'large' size here is, shall we say, very generous! (I found out later that I'd apparently glossed over the page showing the sizes) The Margarita pizza was AMAZING, especially right out of the oven. It had a perfect proportions of cheese, tomato, and basil, all melded together in the oven in a burst of savory goodness. The Heart of the Mediterranean was a more complex affair of textures and flavors, including artichokes, hearts of palm, sun-dried tomatoes, and fried basil leaves (a new one for me). I certainly enjoyed it, but when sitting next to slice of a perfectly executed margarita, there wasn't much competition. We left Picasso's with more than an entire large pizza to enjoy later, and a new restaurant to add to our rotation. Well done, everyone... we'll definitely be back! read more

Lived in mandarin for over 2 years and finally went in for dinner here. Absolutely blown away by the food, the presentation, the service, and the atmosphere. We went in as first time guests and left as family! The made from scratch pasta is unparalleled to anything I've had here in Florida, as is the Alfredo and the fresh made to order pizza. Everything is homemade in house, and it's so very clear why they go the extra mile! We finished off the night with the ooey gooey cake, if that's even what it's called, but it was absolute heaven on a plate. Perfectly light and crispy around the edges, with a creamy, gooey, perfectly done middle. Never crossing the line of being too sweet, the lemony-vanilla dessert will leave you asking "HOW?" BEWARE: Their website / online menu is grossly incorrect. I called in an order to go for a Chicken Parmesan ($18), Shrimp Diablo ($19) and their Cheesy Bread ($5.50). When I got there to pay for the order, I was given a price of $63.13. I was then told that they had a price hike and haven't updated their prices since 2017 and that they had a 10% price hike across the board. They cashier was pretty rude about it when I questioned the nearly $20 price difference (even at 10%, you do the math). I would highly urge callers to beware and ask for a price quote over the phone before they price gouge you at the register. I would have rated this a one star as this business practice is inexcusable. That said, the quality of the food is great. This used to be our favorite place to eat, but in the last six months the quality has gone down. The pizza was dry, the calzone had white American cheese, not the authentic mozzarella. Something is not right. We gave it a second try just to see if it was an off day but the same was true, subpar food. Truth be told, we don't mind paying for a good meal, but when a good meal begins to taste like cardboard and ketchup more than once, it is time to go elsewhere. read more

Its close to us and they make some killer pizza, really ,try the St. Louis style pizza its so good, nice thin crust, but the tomato sauce is mixed with a cheese blend then topped with fresh toppings (leeks, sausage my Fav) ....really good, we grab some to take home sometimes. But they also have great entrees! nightly specials last night we tried the N. Y. Strip, and the pan roasted grey grouper... they were both outstanding!! Dined here for lunch today and it was incredibly delicious! FOOD : Ordered the garlic parmesan bread twists for an app, they were fabulous! The bread tasted fresh with authentic olive oil and cheese. Greek salad with antipasto on top and again, all fresh ingredients. The tomatoes in the salad were juicy and flavorful. Onto the pizza, we ordered the Kitchen Sink.. And the name speaks for itself! It comes with everything and everything on it was phenomenal. The bacon was just the right amount of juicy and crispy, the sausage had just the right amount of spice and all of the vegetables tasted like they had been picked out of the garden that morning and diced ready to order! Last but not least the dessert bar looked fantastic, so many choices to choose from, I ordered the Cheesecake and it was totally scrumptious! ATMOSPHERE : Mildly low lighting (which I like), cute cartoon / abstract paintings on the walls. Your choice of booth or table, we chose the booth and they sit high so you don't feel like your touching heads with the person sitting behind you. STAFF : All friendly and very attentive, we never had to hesitate when we needed something, someone was always whisking by boxing our food, picking up plates and getting refills. The chef who was in the kitchen (which is open so you can see them prepping food) even engaged in conversation while we were ordering which was a pleasant surprise. PRICE POINT : For our 18' fully loaded pizza it was $19. The entire bill came to $36 which including the breadsticks, HUGE salad and massive pizza. This was our first time there and it didn't disappoint! Noi was our server and she made the experience 10/10. It was a classy environment, but very friendly and laid back at the same time. Our food was delicious and she helped me alter my dish to make it less spicy. They appeared to be fully staffed and we don't have any complaints! Luckily I had Yelp to help me find this place. Great little 'hole in the wall feel. They have more than just pizza and it is all amazing. Went there on Sat night and it was about a 45 min wait, luckily you can have a glass of wine while you wait. I tried to the pizza and it was great, not the best pizza in the world, but pretty damn good. Some of the other people I was with had the pasta, which of course I tasted and it was great. Picasso's is a hidden gem in Mandarin. Parking lot/plaza looks a bit run down but don't let that deter you. I highly suggest making a reservation but if not, just expect to wait. We were told there would be a 45 minute wait so we grabbed a Congaree & Penn cider on draft and the Ken Wright Pinot Noir that was highly suggested by the owner and we enjoyed them on the bench outside. Wait was closer to 30 minutes & the staff was apologetic (even though we expected it). The restaurant is small but feels cozy. We ordered the "Tomato & Mozzarella Salad" aka caprese as an appetizer. I was so amazed by the mix of different types of tomatoes, I've never seen a caprese done like this and it was delicious. For dinner, we shared the Bacon Mushroom Swiss Burger Pizza on gluten free crust. The pizza came right out which was a nice surprise as pizzas typically take a little longer here. On a late Monday afternoon, decided to check out this restaurant tucked into a small shopping plaza along San Jose Blvd. We were in search of pizza and intrigued by the menu. Within ten minutes of our arrival, guests were being told there was a 35-45 minute wait for a table. Just having a pizza expanded into appetizers (fried mozzarella with marinara sauce and Milanese risotto bites with garlic aioli) and the famous gooey butter cake. The food was beautifully presented and the individual flavors came through in each dish. Our server - Noi - was terrific - attentive and even as the place filled and there was a mix up over the chicken/broccoli pizza (first try came out as BBQ chicken) quick to repair the error. She kept our drinks full and checked on us just enough to feel wanted but not smothered. We each had the butter cake and almost drowned in its richness. For a restaurant that has been around for awhile, the menu and service are still bringing standing room only lines. The downside - we could not finish everything and had to bring leftovers home. One of the best restaurants in JAX. Went here for the first time for lunch. They do things differently at lunch than for dinner. At dinner, it is typical table service. But at lunch you order from the counter and they deliver your food. You also help yourself to sodas. I've never been disappointed in the food. I've been here several times - first time for lunch. First things first, make a freakin reservation! We arrived at Picasso's at 5:34 pm and there were people already waiting for a table outside, and at that moment I knew I was in for a good meal. Upon entering the small restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a hostess who told me that the wait for a table would be about 30-45 minutes. No problem I said and asked her if we could get a drink while we waited and she pointed me to the register where I was in awe of their extensive wine list. I went for the chronic cellars Zinfandel and the hubs got the stone ipa. And then, we waited. Not a 30-45 minute wait like I was told, but an hour and a half of pure torture since there is not much seating for the waiting people hence why I HAD to take away one star. I honestly felt thrown into Dr. Seuss' the waiting place in the book Oh the Places You'll Go. Once we were finally seated, I ordered the fried ravioli and garlic Parmesan bread twists which came out pretty quick and were good I think (my judgement was cloudy bc I had not eaten anything all day). Now on to the mains. The hubs got the grey grouper with risotto special and it was to die for. He ate it so quickly I didn't have time to snap a photo, but I swear it was one of the best fish dishes I have ever tried. My son had the chicken parm, myself the lasagna, my father in law the rosemary pescado, and we also had a blanco Florentine pizza with added mushrooms and every single thing was out of this world amazing. The food that Picasso's puts out is seriously legit and delicious. For dessert, we had the gooey butter cake and to me it was just ok, since it is not really my thing, but everyone else loved it. I will definitely be returning to Picasso's again, because they put out some of the best Italian food in Jacksonville.
