    Special notes about the dough

I had heard about Picazzo's Healthy Italian Kitchen for quite some time, but I'll be honest the idea of "healthy pizza" didn't sound all that appealing at first. Since I've been trying to cut back on gluten, I finally decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did. First off, the server, I can't remember if her name was Lauren or Kristen, but she was amazing! She was super friendly, incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and made the whole experience even better with her great customer service. I ordered a cauliflower crust pizza with half Spicy Calabrian and half Puttanesca, and both were absolutely incredible! Even the crust surprised me in the best way. I also got a side of pesto sauce, which was phenomenal. Honestly, all of their sauces are top-notch. The restaurant itself is clean and clearly focused on healthier options, which I really appreciate. I also love that they avoid seed oils in most of their food, something that's really hard to find anywhere these days. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and high quality, and it's obvious that the owners and staff genuinely care about the food and the overall experience. You can even buy the pizza dough, both the gluten-free or the regular dough to take home and make your own pizza if that something you're into. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for healthier options without sacrificing flavor!

Kale and white bean soup and Vegan chicken picatta lunch combo

Lovely, comfy atmosphere with nice lighting and a full bar and an outdoor patio. The menu is almost overwhelming with so many great choices. As a vegan, I was so happy there was so much for me! My husband and I each had a lunch combo. One with vegan chicken piccata and also kale white bean soup which were both very tasty. They both screamed for some Parmesan though, but unfortunately Picazzos doesn't carry non-dairy Parmesan. The other combo was a salad bowl with pizza slice. We had the Mother Earth bowl which was the absolute standout! So delicious with many hearty, healthy ingredients and a phenomenal dressing. The pizza slice was blah though. Honestly, I think Picazzos should make their own vegan cheese. The processed stuff just isn't very good. (Example: True Food's vegan ricotta is a delicious house made cheese). Also, apparently the only vegan crust is gluten free as well which was disappointing. I don't have any problems with gluten and would have liked a nice fluffy crust. So next time I will stay away from the vegan pizza and bring my own Parmesan. Otherwise, everything was great.

Everything tasted healthy or fresh, the cheese bread was amazing except the underside of the cheese bread was burnt so we just had to eat around that. But the flavors were perfect. Pizza is six small slices, delicious crust. Lots of gluten-free and dairy free options. Server was attentive, but seemed like he had a lot of tables for a Saturday night. Three kids and two adults cost $115 with no alcohol. Waited about 15 minutes for a table

Quick lunch at Picazzo's Gilbert with my hubby--gluten-free Italian fusion that's a healthy vibes. The Spicy Chipotle Chicken Pasta? Spot-on:, tender grilled chicken, and al dente pasta that hit the savory spot. But the Spicy Thai Peanut Fusilli leaned too sweet (that peanut sauce went full dessert mode--next time, extra lime squeeze!). Fresh, allergy-friendly spot with cozy indoor seating and speedy service. Generous portions, ~$50 for two.. East Valley gem for lighter Italian experiments--we'll return!

A friend and I went for lunch today and I was anxious to try it after looking at their menu online. First of all this place is so cute! Very mid century modern meets contemporary inside. Very comfortable seating options. There's an inside space which is quite large, an atrium type space with a garage door and options for a large group, and also a small patio on the side. I had the combo which was nicely priced and came with a beverage, small salad, and slice of pizza. The salad was very fresh and had nice bites of several vegetables. The balsamic dressing was thick and yummy! But the pizza- that was the star of the show! It was a generous slice with the most amazing crust! I chose my own toppings and the list is extensive! I had artichoke hearts and spinach and it was the perfect choice. My friend had the vegan chik'n wing bites with two different sauces and she loved it. The service was friendly and attentive. I noticed that they offer a very nice happy hour menu from 3-6 so I look forward to going back!

Wow... exceeded my expectations. Our server was great tending to refills and getting water promptly. Our food came out super fast and it was so good. Hot and ready to eat. Flavored beyond my expectations and the price was extremely reasonable. I will be back to try most if not all the apps!

I use to come to this restaurant all the time. It is definitely one of my favorite restaurants that have vegan options. My son never been here so I wanted to bring him to try some good Italian food. I was so disappointed with this experience this evening. Food is way too expensive to be lacking in flavor so much. The portions are huge, but the flavor was ridiculously bland. The food use to be better seasoned. For these prices the food needs to be perfect!! The waitress seem preoccupied yet the restaurant only had with the exception of 3 parties eating outside. She wasn't busy. I didn't tip her well I must say. I had to ask for waters and for her to refill our waters. The cheesy vegan bread was undercooked and very soggy. That was pitiful. My son liked his chicken Parmesan but not as much as I would've like him too. The only thing still delicious was the vegan cheesecake I ordered. I am not coming back anytime soon.

Oh my this was a wonderful, tasty meal this evening. The pizza has great crust, well baked, super tasty toppings and generous amount of food. Our server was August- and he was great. Prompt, attentive and just so kind. Great job to him. I had the puttenesca pizza and my sister had the fig and pepperoni. They were so good The bathrooms were clean, the outside space was so nice and it was just a good evening.

Our friend who had a dairy allergy recommended this lunch spot and I'm glad we went, otherwise, we probably would have never been here. We sat in the patio and the outdoor area is spacious. The service was friendly, though a bit slow. I got the hot honey and fig pizza and it was delicious! The kids got the fusilli and meatballs and mac and cheese. They enjoyed their meal as well.

Love going here for a healthy and gluten free meal without feeling like a hassle! Host was super friendly when leading me to my table the ambiance is very inviting as well at this location. Luckily I had the sweetest server she was so helpful and patient. She suggested the chipotle pasta and it was better than what I was expecting! I would definitely want to try more menu items next time!

One of my favorite modern aesthetic hidden hole in the walls! The food is delicious and tastes fresh! Definitely recommend their plethora of vegan options and the chicken parm has a very generous serving! The service is fantastic and the server was very attentive to any special needs or requests. I would definitely recommend this spot to any one who is looking for a great date night or just a nice spot to enjoy company with friends and family!

I really wish it were easier to find breakfast joints with organic coffee but it can be a bit difficult to find in certain areas, such as the east valley area. This was one of a couple options I could find. We attempted to dine here for dinner on a previous occasion but it was a long wait at that time so we went elsewhere. This time we showed up around 10:15am on a Saturday in June, and we were quoted 90 minutes for two people. Fortunately there was room at the bar, so we were seated immediately. The decor is very clean and subtlety higher end. It is an open floor plan with the bar towards the front door, which is also accessible from the large patio (in cooler weather times) that has mister fans and a lot of shade. They have one of the nicest and cleanest restrooms in the valley, with complementary sea salt scrub and high end paper napkins. They also have a couple luxurious event spaces, one of which was hosting an engagement party. My mom tried a non alcoholic drink special with decaffeinated tea and fresh juices, with a little flower on top. She also tried the avocado toast. She enjoyed both but she said the avocado toast was a little spicy, albeit she has an extremely low tolerance for spice. I opted for the breakfast sandwich and black coffee. The coffee came in a neat mug with an oversized handle that was very ergonomic. It was good, but slightly watery. Was at least comforting to know it wasn't laced with tons of pesticides like most restaurants' coffee. The egg, bacon and avocado sandwich was delicious. The egg and bacon were cooked perfectly, and the bread was nice and soft but not too dry. The greens on the side were fresh with a nice vinaigrette. The service was excellent, all of the staff were friendly and seemed to be happy to be there. All in all I was impressed with this place. The only thing I wish they had on their brunch menu was an omelette, because this is first place I have been in a very long time that isn't a fine dining establishment, where they actually know how to cook eggs properly. They were fluffy, moist, and light. I don't bring this up as a brag, but I attended culinary school and learned proper scrambled egg (French style) technique years ago. This is the first place I've been in a long time that gives my eggs a run for their money.

As a health food vegan, I am always on the lookout for food like this: whole foods/plant-based, including some oil-free options. When you enter the Gilbert Gateway Towne Center, you have to maneuver through tricky shared parking to find a space. We dined half past 6pm on Memorial Day, so thankfully parking was easier as I believe some businesses were closed for the holiday. Though parking is tight, there is no shortage of seating in this establishment. Some bench-style seating as well as chairs to accommodate whichever you prefer. What We Ordered: ~ The Great Greek Gyro (no onions) x2: My boyfriend remarked that the gyro meat tastes like it was reheated, which I also noticed it slightly tougher than a more authentic one I've had previously. Still a very solid gyro given this is a chain and fast service place with a generous portion. ~ Sides with our meals: French fries and lemon potatoes Personally, the lemon potatoes are a pass next time as very buttery and heavy. The French fries however, were fantastic! They appear to be twice fried to have an extra crunchiness. Overall, if I'm in the area and in the mood for Mediterranean, then I'd pop in to The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill. P.s. Don't forget to add your number for rewards via Toast!

It filled me up. The jalapeño caesar tied in nicely with the romaine, brusssels, parmesan & pecorino cheese and the egg. It would still taste great without the shrimp. Cajun Chicken Alfredo $20 enjoyed the taste and the flavor of the Alfredo sauce. Cremini Sachetti $22 The stuffed pasta, mushrooms & cheese sauce were delicious.

The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick. Now, onto my order- a bagel and iced tea. The iced tea was great, no comments, and the bagel was absolutely delicious! You can tell they make it here. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that this place is also a grocery store of sorts, with really good prices. They also have board games, so if you're coming with friends, you won't be bored. I will be coming here again. A very lovely experience!

There is also a nice parking garage accessible via the alleyway between buildings under the apartments (see photo). Atmosphere 5/5 This is a One-off small business cute cafe rating. There is season appropriate seating curbside in front on Main Street. Today we enjoyed our takeout dessert in front it was such a neat overcast day. On the inside there are item for sale on small wall shelves in the dining room and freezer refrigerators giving it a small town vibe. There are approximately 6-8 tables for eat in service. As the summer temperatures arrive these tables will become even more in demand. This is a quaint Gluten Free eatery with a nice selection offered in menu. Service 5/5 This is a take menu to table, decided then return to counter to order. Orders are delivered to your table. Helping us today was Paula. She was the ambassador to the restaurant who welcomed us immediately. She asked if we've been in before and once we responded no, she thoughtfully walked us through everything including the Gluten Free information. Food 5/5 Both of us were hungry for breakfast and we were ready for this new experience. Coffee was severed in large and individually unique cups. Coffee was nice. 4-Eats we ordered for inside service; a powdered sugar Waffle and I ordered their biscuits and sausage gravy. Sides were two eggs over easy and two sausage patties for additional protein. Desert were two oatmeal cookie pies the we enjoyed curbside in front. Our breakfast choices were fantastic. For mine I ordered too much because the sausage in the gravy would have been sufficient due to their generous serving size. I will order the same thing less the two Patties. Desert 5/5 Our picks were delicious and will require another extra 30 minutes in the gym! $67.90 includes generous tip for excellent service! If you're in the Downtown Mesa area put "Against the Grain" on your list of places to eat. Eat well my friends-SYOY!

I did a quick search on Yelp and realized I was less than a mile away from this cafe. The space has a cozy and welcoming feel. There's tons of seating. The staff greeted me as soon as I entered. The young woman behind the counter was very helpful. The menu offers sandwiches, shakes, pastries, and more. The tuna melt sounded great to me so I ordered that with gluten free bread as well as a GF pastry. I think it was a muffin top. Both items were delish! I devoured the tuna salad in the cafe before leaving and it helped me with my workout later that afternoon. The pastry was delightful as well. It was light and not too sweet. I came back a couple of weeks later and brought my husband who was looking for a healthy drink after we played golf. We both got shakes. My husband got the green goddess and I was looking for something refreshing so I got the Caribbean crush which has coconut milk, pineapple, vanilla protein, mango, strawberries, and OJ. It was exactly what I needed!

The café has a very nice, clean boho vibe inside, and there are plenty of menu options to choose from, including chicken, steak, tofu, and other proteins. They also offer fresh drinks, bowls, salads, sandwiches, and--holy guacamole--the cowboy cookie is to die for! I got my order to go because I wanted to save it for dinner later, and it was delicious. It wasn't exactly what I ordered, though. I had asked for a Mediterranean bowl with quinoa and broccoli, but later that night I realized there was no quinoa. Even so, it was still really good, and we'll definitely be back!
