The food was very good and arrived quickly, but the service was disappointing. We waited about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged our table, and throughout the meal we never received drink refills. When it was time to pay, we had to ask another employee to locate our server so we could get the check. We were told that our server was also tending bar, even though we were seated in the dining area. While that may explain the delays, it doesn't excuse them. The restaurant was not busy, so the lack of attention was surprising. We enjoyed the food and would consider returning, but we hope the service improves. read more

Stopped in Thursday night! We were looking for a new spot and the reviews got us interested, we're SO GLAD WE DID! First of all, the craft drink menu is great, the drinks were tasty and super unique! In addition they have a great beer menu! I like to judge restaurants by their side salads and Sage and Barrel has fresh and delicious salads!!! The Bruschetta had great garlic flavor and was obviously freshly made! For our entrees we did the Fish n Chips and Blackberry Salmon, BOTH WERE INCREDIBLE! The fish and chips is a single filet which was light and perfectly cooked with fresh fries. The salmon was cooked through and remained moist and really flavorful, it was the absolute perfect meal we were looking for! I can't believe it took me so long to try this little hidden gem, we'll definitely be back.....soon! read more

We met up for an early Mother's Day lunch. It was delightfully decorated with a mixture of tables, booths and high tables. We arrived at noon on a Saturday to a nearly full establishment. We were quickly seated. The menu had a nice mix for every one. I opted for the Cubano, the rest of the group ordered flatbread, salad with chicken, burger and hot chicken. My Cubano, with a side of homemade potato salad was a great choice. Other comments were somewhat negative. The burger ordered "medium" was a little undercooked and the two plates with chicken commented about it being a bit dry. Portion sizes were not oversized apart from the salad. We only had one to-go box for the table. They did offer to-go iced teas upon request. Visited the men's room before leaving and was presented with a bit of a urine smell and sticky floor. Something I would expect at a bar late into the evening, not a noon one hour after opening. I think four stars is the ceiling on this establishment but didn't quite earn it. S&BCE offers a casual but clean, fun, energetic vibe and based on the crowd, others enjoy this too. It's good energy all around and there are TVs so that the sports addicts in your party don't miss an important game while out. Our party of four ended up ordering a few drinks and then decided to share some food family style. I recommend the paloma cocktail! For food, we shared fish and chips, brussels sprouts, and a Chinese chicken salad. Off spring in tow we were seated.and two burgers were ordered. About 43 minutes later they arrived. Asked server who delivered meal if they were down on the back end and she replied she was here. WTF, must have been a manager in training. Finished the meal and asked the same question to our regular server and she said they got slammed. Evening crew had not yet arrived. Mulligan offered as it was a late lunch day before New Year. Left a big tip to our server. Management here must have seen deer in headlights. This was our first visit since the space reopened as Sage & Barrel, and I really loved the new atmosphere--it's a pretty setting with a fresh, inviting feel. Service was good, and the happy hour drink prices were especially appealing. Food prices felt fairly average for today's restaurant standards, but unfortunately the quality didn't quite match the pricing on this visit. My husband and I shared a side Caesar salad, a Margherita flatbread, and an order of sweet and spicy fish and chips, and overall the dishes were just okay. This is my fourth time here and every instance has been noteworthy. This is one of those restaurants where it's nearly impossible to decide on just one thing to order. This visit I couldn't pass up ordering the fish & chips. My son had gotten this in a previous visit and I was needing some comfort food. Crazy generous portion of fish, like decent forearm sized filet. I got mine with the beer batter, but it's also available with a corn meal breading. The fish was crispy, and delicious and didn't seem like it was soaking in oil. Tartar sauce was delicious and they give you enough to take care of the whole giant filet. The French fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. And the coleslaw was fresh, crunchy and not overwhelmingly sweet. I was lucky enough to try my wife's fried chicken and gravy which was also amazing. We wrapped up with the s'mores cobbler which was absolutely mind blowing. This spot is quickly becoming a favorite, there are so many more things to try. The inside of Sage and Barrel and absolutely stunning! It is perfect for a date night. Our waitress was absolutely amazing and helped us with what to choose on the menu. We started off with drinks, I got the Peartini and my friend ordered the violet crowned mojito. They were both great but the mojito was our favorite of the two. We ordered the Sriracha Aioli Parmesan fries off their happy hour menu for $9. I had high hopes for this one and it was good just not amazing as I had anticipated. The Sageadore is their signature margarita but I got a regular margarita with a Tajín rim after and preferred that. The Brussels sprouts were tasty (my favorite appetizer) and the PBJ burger was fun and had a good balance of jam, peanut butter, and their maple aioli. If you're looking for a sign to try peanut butter on a hamburger, this is it. I grew up eating a peanut butter pineapple burger and this brought me back. Tuesday afternoon late lunch. Could have counted others in there on one hand. Parking was easy right near front door. Liked inside right away. Hostess seated us at nice booth by window and away from other patrons. Service was quick ... took our drink orders, got us waters and then recommended some appetizers. Menu is great, a little of everything. Since there wasn't much going on for kitchen, appetizers and mains came out very close to each other. Could use some timing spacing. My craft cocktail was ok, not great but refreshing. Sampled the beef and brisket chili (great), the spinach, strawberry and goat cheese entree salad with grilled salmon, the beer cheese and the honey glazed fish. I thought everything was great. The entree salad portion size was huge!!!!! Didn't really get into the beer cheese presentation. Some chips but a bunch of raw broccoli and cauliflower and bell pepper strips for dipping. First impressions can really make or break a business. We were so excited to finally try Sage & Barrel after seeing some decent reviews. We walked in for a later lunch. The host stand was vacant so we stood and waiting for a few minutes. As the hostess arrived the phone rang, and instead of picking up the phone and putting that person on hold she took the call to completion as we were standing there. As a business owner myself that is customer service drive you do not let the customer in front of you wait. We were seated in a booth, no real interaction from the host and after about 7-10 mins got up and left because none of the servers acknowledged us let alone at least brought us waters. The food is not cheap so having poor service to justify the price was concerning. We walked back to the host stand where I asked to speak to a manager, a gentleman came over, and while is was super kind and offered us to sit at the bar and he's helping, he openly admitted he was NOT the manager and that there was no manager on site I can understand that if you don't have a manager just say so but sounds like he was asked to "step in" - mind you he was the only person who was pleasant to engage with. The restaurant was a third full at best and really No excuse for such poor service when I counted at least three servers. Unfortunately we won't be returning but we hope that there is some training from management on how to serve the customers better. Sage n Barrel has always been one of our go‑to spots for a reliably good meal, so it was disappointing to see how much things have slipped since our last visit a few months ago. We came in midday, and it wasn't even busy, yet it took quite a while for our food to arrive. I ordered my usual salmon, which is normally excellent, but this time it came out overcooked and dry. Definitely not the quality I've come to expect here. The one bright spot was the white chocolate cranberry cheesecake -- that was outstanding and honestly saved the meal from being a total miss. I'm not sure if there's a new chef or what's changed, but the consistency just wasn't there. As we were leaving, the place was starting to fill up, and I couldn't help wondering how they were going to handle a crowd when service was already slow. The space has a nice yet casual ambiance. Service was fast and friendly throughout. I tried the following: Coffee flight of four $14.99 Caramelized roasted Brussels sprouts $23 Sage & Barrel English fish and chips $14.50 Their coffee flight has seasonal flavors. We visited back in March and a couple of the drinks were St. Patty's Day inspired. Unfortunately, the flavors all tasted the same to me and the coffee was weak in my opinion. Our table shared the caramelized roasted Brussels sprouts which comes with maple bacon, crispy onion strings, sesame seeds, scallions, and sriracha aioli drizzle. The Brussels were tasty and perfectly crispy. Really enjoyed it. For my entree, I opted for the fish and chips which is a pub style beer battered or light cornmeal batter served with fries, coleslaw and tartar. I asked our server which batter she recommended and she said beer batter, so I went with that. The batter wasn't too heavy and there was a decent amount of fish, which I appreciated. This place has unfortunately went downhill the second time around. We went back and ordered 3 ribeyes. We got medium rare, medium, and medium well. All 3 were absolutely rock hard. So much that we struggled to cut the meat and my jaw was hurting from trying to chew it that we couldn't even finish it. This is after waiting over an hour for our food. My son's New York steak was much softer but was ordered medium rare and came out well done. We absolutely loved this place the first time around, but the second experience was so bad, not sure if we could come back here other than just purchasing appetizers. So frustrated wasting money on a steak that we could let eat. In return, we were offered 75% off just the ribeye meals, so basically paid a lot for mashed potatoes and asparagus. What a great find in a mall shopping center like it is. We had a few minute wait but were seated quite quickly. Our server was super personable and helpful, telling us about the specials and answering our many questions. Great start. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was outstanding. We were walk ins and didn't wait long to be seated. The host was very sweet and our server, Jackie, was attentive and friendly. I'm usually very picky with my drinks but the Paloma was perfect. It was sweet enough and tasted refreshing with the meal. In my opinion, the star were the tenders with the maple aioli. Sage Fact: Sage (Salvia officinalis) was used by Romans in sacred ceremonies, as they believed that it can bring longevity. Have you ever felt like being ran over by a dozen horses before brunch? No? Well don't have Gretel Y., our most glorious Phoenix Southeast CM, as your friend because she'll lure you to her boot camp fitness events with the promise of food afterwards. Even lifting a fork was an olympian task! I ordered a Blackberry Salmon and an iced coffee flight (peppermint, pistachio, marshmallow, white chocolate) for my brunch. My salmon was cooked to flakey perfection and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The coffee flight, while definitely Instagram-worthy, lacked that caffeine kick that was much needed after the boot camp class. I have to admit that I had to go out for coffee afterwards just to finish my Saturday errands. Sage & Barrel is a place of good ambiance, friendly service, and tasty bites. Diane/Diana Fact: The "Diane" part ofSteak/Chops Diane refers to Diana, the Greco-Roman goddess of the hunt. While I may not be a hunter, I do appreciate the goods from someone else's hunt. Not a great combination as you can imagine. The brussel sprouts were flavorful but very burnt. Our server was decent. She was nice, but left us hanging on a few occasions. There were roughly 10 of us. So, it was understandable. The restaurant was very large and could probably accommodate A LOT of people. It had a nice comforting, and pleasant vibe. If the food had been better, this place would rock, but unfortunately, it was a dud on the food front. However, they have some incredibly genuine people working here! I forgot my wallet, and when I came back for it, I didn't notice that anything was missing, especially no cash missing from what I can tell, so pretty dang awesome! It was a last minute decision and we didn't have time to make a reservation but they accommodated us without a problem. I liked the stylish interior updates that they did from when it was "Bar Vineto" in 2015-2023. Here is a breakdown of the items I tried: Wild Peartini $13 -Very sweet. Sweeter than I was foretold. While it had good flavor, it would have been better served colder. Just a bit more time shaken over ice, would have been awesome in my opinion. Coffee flight $14.99 -While I love the variety of flavors, I'd stick to coffee flights at places where they specialize in this craft. This one did not meet any of my expectations. Sesame chicken salad $18.50-A standout!! The in house made dressing was lip smacking and made this dish! Louisiana Cajun Pasta $20.00-This dish is HOT! Spicier than what the server let on! I felt like there were flames in my mouth! Amanda was friendly and provided excellent service considering she has only worked here a couple of weeks. A little oily but the cheese pull was good and the sauce was great. Entrees; My hubby got the chicken fried steak, I got one of the two chicken sandwiches and our kiddo got a steak. The chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside and still very juicy on the inside. The grave was the perfect consistency and the potatoes were good too. My chicken fried sandwich was very good but the real star of the show was the homemade chips. Perfect consistently and seasoned beautifully. Imagine bbq chips but better. Kiddo loved the steak because it was perfectly cooked but didn't love the truffle butter on top of it (definitely would have asked for it without but I don't think the menu said it).
