Really interesting Asian fusion style food that is unique. I've had the curry and the chicken katsu and was surprised at the size of the portion and the quality was outstanding. I am all about a good Asian fusion so I was really excited about this restaurant. We ordered the papaya salad, hush puppies, beef tar tar, and the pork jowl. I thought the food was great, wonderful service, and a very nice ambiance. I also like that they are trying to bring more of a night life to Culver City by staying open later and having a decent late night happy hour. I picked up food to go from Piccalilli and was really happy with it. I got the green papaya salad, crispy falafel sandwich, and five spice pork sandwich. I figured that would be too much food for one sitting but wanted to try several dishes. All of them were delicious and I honestly can't say whether I preferred the pork or falafel as both were flavorful and satisfying. And I think that, for the price, the portion and flavor you get is really strong value for both. I look forward to trying Piccalilli again once the full menu is available again. read more

Cozy Asian fusion restaurant in culver DT. They have interesting menu and good selection of music. We ordered Chicken Katsu and Japanese sweat potato. Katsu was huge and delicious! More than enough for two people. Sweat potato was delicious too. I'd definitely go again. read more

Trendy cute spot with mediocre food and horrible service. The bartender literally treated us like pieces of furtniture while fawning over some young dude. The hostess? in the meantime walking around with a scowl on her face. I had to ask for basics like a glass for my water, second glass of wine, plates etc We tried several dishes and the best one was the bread dish which they don't make in house so.....I guess they know how to toast bread. Food was great and our server was attentive. However the seating situation at the restaurant did not make sense. We had a party of 3 with dinner reservations and it was a cold night. We asked the hostess if we could sit inside because there were two empty tables and she said they were reserved. Then we asked to sit in the patio portion that was 75% empty and had overhead heaters. Again, we were told the tables were reserved. We got seated out in the street where there was one heater to be shared between our table and the table next to us so it was in the middle of both tables. So neither table was really getting the full benefit of the heater. It was freezing and we were not prepared to be seated outside in the cold (mind you all three of us had at sweater/jacket). A party nearby that had a heater for its own table began to leave so we asked if we could move to that table. The guy who seated us said he would have to ask the host. He did and advised that the host said the table was reserved. When our server came (nice guy) I asked him. He said he would check but then the host seated a party of 4 at the table (also the party sitting here before was a party of 3 so they had to grab another chair for this new party being seated). The server then said he could get us blankets. However when he returned he only had one because they ran out. It was a very cold dinner experience. Again food was good but when you spending over $200 for dinner it would be nice if you could eat it comfortably. read more

Such incredible flavors. Definitely get the brussels sprouts, they were tangy and loved the crunchy corn nuts on top! The fried chicken is incredible but the portion is massive so definitely prepare yourself. It's probably enough for at least three people. Great new spot in Downtown Culver City. Lighting was dim enough for mood but light enough to see the menu. We ordered the brussel sprouts, chicken katsu and octopus. They accidentally put down an order of hamachi. When we informed them they said to go ahead and enjoy it. It was a nice surprise because it turned out to be a really great dish. It reminded me a lot of Peruvian the cerviche with tons of citrus flavor and a bit of kick. Brussell sprouts and the octopus were both excellent, but we were really surprised by the chicken katsu. It took the longest to come out but was also juicy and flavorful. My gf who doesn't like chicken much really enjoyed it. Overall highly recommended. read more

Went here the first time last week and did not know what to expect. It was fantastic! The food was great and had very rich flavors. Also took their Ginger drink and asked if they could add a touch of whisky, very well done. Other than the food being great there is a server named Naomi I hope that is spelled right. She is beyond fantastic! She was super on top of everything. She knew the menu inside and out, was very friendly, & extremely Witty and funny! Not once were we out of water or felt like someone was not taking care of us. She will make the night. I will definitely go back as we were to full for dessert and I really want to try the chocolate cake. read more

This will sound like hyperbole, but Piccalilli is my favorite restaurant. Anywhere. I've been probably 8 or 9 times since it opened and have not once been disappointed. The wait staff are great and kind, the ambience is unique and bold, they have plenty of outdoor seating for COVID-friendly dining. And, at the end of the day, the food is just so good. My compliments to the head chef, who is clearly super creative and inventive. From the brussel sprouts frequently mentioned in other reviews (which are genuinely that good) to the green papaya salad, the ceviche, the tomato curry, even the bread plate is the best bread plate I've ever had. Their cocktails are also generally very good (although some are very spirit-forward which might not be everyone's taste). They frequently rotate dishes in based on seasonally available ingredients, which means that every time you go there's a chance to try something new. I honestly can't recommend this place enough, especially if you like shareable small plates, Asian-influenced flavors, and creative dishes. read more

I particularly enjoyed the Brussel sprouts - sooo yummy. The pork shank was also quite delicious. Skip the mushrooms - pretty bland. Cocktails were quite good as well. Absolutely wonderful! A+ from start to finish. The hostess, Sara was friendly and really sweet! Our waitress, Danielle was also really great and offered solid suggestions for our dietary needs. The Brussels sprouts were incredible. Like, life changing! We also shared the yellow tail which was super interesting and delicious. A bit of a disappointment considering we live down the street and we were excited for a new restaurant. Still can't figure ouut what kind of food it was. Asian fusion? Not great. I only finished the pork miso as to not waste my money. The dipping sauces I think were for the fried shrimp but they didn't work well at all. Brussel sprouts were good. My husband and I just went here for date night. Brussels sprouts, pork shank, and Banana pudding were excellent! Wait staff was great and attentive. Ambience was lovely! The only reason I don't rate it higher is the music was TOO LOUD and that made the meal frustrating. Even though I liked the music, you practically had to shout to one another on the outside patio. It got worse when the steel drum player from the restaurant next door started. He was fine, but it was clashing with the Smashing Pumpkins playing at our restaurant. We asked the staff to turn the outside speakers off, but it seems they just turned them louder? Hopefully the restaurant will catch on and err on the side of the live musician. read more

WOW. i was absolutely blown away with my dish. the chicken was extremely savory, not salty (even though i forgot to ask for no salt) and the two sauces provided were great. i personally liked the yellow sauce better because it had a hint of curry spice flavor that complemented the katsu well. it was like a curry katsu dish without the actual full curry dish if you know what i mean. the red sauce was a spicy chili sauce, so that was great because i could have a couple spicy bites in between. the salad had a citric dressing with a couple thinly sliced peppers which were a great addition with the katsu. the katsu was super tender on the inside and crispy on the outside so i really felt like i was levitating towards heavenoverall, food was amazing, but i would say the atmosphere is a cocktail bar type beat so it's really loud. my sister and i honestly ate in silence cuz we couldn't hear each other the customer service was also great and the waiters definitely know ingredients in each dish inside and out. i'm allergic to peanuts and she warned me before i event brought it up read more

A great addition to the downtown Culver City food scene. In a street lined with mostly bland food, Picclilli's bold flavors standout. We were fortunate to get there in time for happy hour, so we sampled more dishes during out first visit: Brussel sprouts - very tasty and unexpectedly wonderful texture contrast between the sprouts and the corn nuts. This is a must order. Thai banana hush puppies - my husband could not stop gushing about this - great execution on a twist to the original. Savory and crunchy. Miso pork jowl - another terrific dish; I liked the flavors and texture on the seared pork jowl which combined very well with micro greens and ponzu sauce Shrimp and sweet potato - a modern version of salt and pepper shrimp; savory, crunchy shrimp is an effective contrast with the sweet potato "chips" Noodles - loved this no-sauce dish! Savory and mildly spicy with perfectly cooked pad Thai noodles and seasonal veggies. We will order again. Octopus heirloom tomato - all the elements were cooked perfectly. This dish did not quite come together as well as the other dishes we tried. I appreciate that the chef is pushing the boundaries and trying to blend Italian and Asian flavors, and look forward to experiencing the continued evolution of this dish. I am SO glad we came here, our experience was incredible start to finish! We came just for drinks and to check out the new space, but ended up ordering food as well. We could smell all of the incredible dishes around us and honestly could not resist ordering some food despite having already had dinner. Firstly, our server Naomi was beyond! She was so warm and enthusiastic, honestly I think the best service I have ever had. We first ordered drinks, with recs from the server, and each of our drinks (4 people) blew us away. The flavors were inventive and fresh, new takes on familiar cocktails. After eyeing all the delicious food around us we caved and ordered the chicken dish and brussels sprouts to all taste. We were so glad we did, the food was KILLER. I cannot wait to come back here, and to bring friends to this new neighborhood spot. The food is bold and delicious. There are some small kinks here and there that are inevitable in a new restaurant but everyone is attentive and receptive to feedback.
