We made a last-minute reservation for three and had such a great experience at Laurel Grill. The ambience was great and the service was amazing from start to finish. Our server's name was Victor. I had a glass of wine and we started with the wood-fired bread for the table, which was delicious. For my main, I got the dipped brisket sandwich and it was definitely the highlight of the table. Everyone kept asking me for a bite lol. I also ordered the Murano beans, which none of us had tried before, and they were SO good. My friend had the seabass, which was perfectly seasoned, and my other friend got the pepperoni pizza and loved the honey drizzle. The only miss for us was the broccoli. It was a little undercooked and there was a lot going on with the sauce, so I'd probably skip that next time. Overall, really great dinner and would definitely come back. read more

On a random Saturday night my gals and I went to Culver City to eat. Found this place on instagram and it looked good. So right off the bat, there isn't any parking for this place. It's a garage lot for the entire little area. It's not free parking by the way. Anyway back to the restaurant, we waited for about 15 min at most which was nice considering she initially said 45 min. The waitress was super nice, the food was okay. Small portions for the prices we paid. I felt like our plates could use more flavor, they felt a bit bland. The ambiance was lowkey like a romantic casual if that makes sense. Low lighting with heaters outside and you're looking out to the small little buildings next to the stairs. Moral of the story, I don't think I'd go back here. Not because my experience was bad, primarily because I felt like the food was a bit over priced, and not really worth the price. read more

Happened to be in Culver City needing a lunch spot and this was a great find. First off it's in a great location with upper level patio view. The wood fired pizzas are legit. I met my friend here after a long work week. We deserved martins, and Laurel Grill has a really good one. I've come here and just sat at the bar solo, and it's a great people watching spot. The bar is pretty spacious so I've never had any issues with finding a spot. We decided to split dishes to try more options - margarita pizza: this came out very quickly after ordering. We were surprised how quick. But I really enjoyed this pizza. It felt like it was light, as light as a pizza can be. Would definitely order again or try a different topping. - meatballs: these were huge. And very tasty. 10/10. - chicken: we were pretty full after the pizza and meatballs, but the chicken was pretty good. I don't know if I'd order this again. I'd probably try something else. But it hit the spot. Overall the food is great here. I didn't like the baby screaming in the bar, nor the creepy guy staring at us from the bar. But sometimes you can't get away from that. read more

Updated review! On Saturday, May 9, I had the opportunity to try more items from the menu, and I'm so glad I did. The food and service were spectacular! We ordered the lemon pasta with grilled shrimp, pepperoni pizza, Caesar salad with chicken, hot bread, and the delicious cheesesteak egg rolls. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We also enjoyed an assortment of tequila drinks, and everyone was happy with their selections. Located at the top of the Culver City steps, Laurel Grill is a nice restaurant with lots of casual food options like hotdog, burger, ribs, etc. it's created by the same owner as Laurel Hardware & Ysabel. It's gets busy and even with a reservation on Resy, we had to wait 10-20 mins to be seated. There are lots of booth tables which I love and have me a little bit of Houston's vibes. They have all the staples you want from a "new American" type restaurant and food is good overall. They don't have an actual kids menu but offer kids options like buttered pasta and grilled cheese. The best thing I had here is the apple pie - so good! But it comes smothered in caramel so ask for that on the side if you're not a caramel fan. read more

Went here for dinner with a colleague while I was in town from New York for a work trip. Entire experience was fantastic. Beautifully designed space, great ambiance, a vibe you will not get in New York so it was a great experience for me. Excellent location with lovely views of downtown Culver City. We didn't have a reservation but the lovely hostess (who was also like maybe the prettiest woman I've ever seen? I didn't catch her name but I think she may have been Ethiopian/East African descent with really beautiful curly hair) put my name down and while she said it would be maybe 30 min it was definitely more like 15. In the meantime we had a drink at the bar (I don't drink alcohol and the bartender was very kind and made an excellent NA Paloma for me). When we were seated we had a very helpful and friendly waitress who gave us her recommendations and helped us decide what to order from the menu that was just the right amount of options but truly everything sounded good so it was hard to decide. I had the sea bass which was so amazing! I finished the entire thing and it was the perfect portion of a meal. Also I am a type 1 diabetic and appreciated the options they had that were both very friendly to my diet and also very delicious. Oh and the restrooms! Women's restroom was sooo nice and the doors are the ones that are floor to ceiling and they had the fancy remote controlled toilets. It was a beautiful day in L.A. and a rooftop lunch with a view was the perfect way to spend a Saturday. I was joined by three beautiful ladies - Laurel, Lynn, & Te-See. Our server was a delightful girl named Cassidy. She took good care of us and had a great personality. We started with cocktails to toast our friendship: It's Giving-Paloma, Main Character (a riff on an espresso martini enhanced with vanilla syrup), Inverted Vesper (a twist on the classic with elderflower & grapefruit oil), and a Grey Goose Martini dry with Blue Cheese stuffed olives (for me of course). The menu contains lots of mouthwatering options. Our order consisted of: Hot Bread, Meatballs, Smoked Bacon & Pineapple Pizza, Spicy Vodka Pasta, House Salad, Caesar Salad, & two sides of Fries. I highly recommend starting your meal with the Hot Bread, which is baked in a wood-fired oven. It's pizza dough stuffed with mozzarella and topped with a light marinara. It is addicting. The meatballs were served on a bed of whipped ricotta and topped with marinara and shaved Reggiano. The House Salad was loaded with fresh veggies and came with a mustard vinaigrette. The handmade rigatoni was al dente and the spicy vodka sauce had a good flavor. It could have been spicier but it was still delish. Lynn said the Smoked Bacon & Pineapple Pizza was the best "Hawaiian" pizza she's had because it contained fresh pineapple and crispy smoked bacon. The fries were yummy and perfectly cooked. The vibe on the rooftop was chill and the view was lovely. (I was happy to see a well-mannered dog sitting at the table nearby.) The décor inside is also quite nice with sleek wood paneling and an open kitchen. A commercial for Ariana Grande's Cloud perfume was being filmed down in the courtyard the day of our visit. Met up with some ladies here for dinner! We made a reservation in advance. This place was popping when we arrived, super busy. It's up above the culver steps. Pretty twinkle lights throughout, a nice ambiance. You can park in the lot right ahead of it and they validate parking so you get 2 hours free. Huge restaurant inside, lots of seating. Seating in the outdoor patio as well. There's even a grand piano inside, so I imagine they have performances occasionally here too. I asked the waitress what she recommended between the Asian chicken salad and the Cajun shrimp salad. She said the Cajun shrimp so I went with that. It's not inexpensive at $28. It has a nice presentation! It was good and had a nice mix of ingredients, hazelnuts, orange, and Cajun-spiced shrimp. Decent amount of shrimp on the salad but not sure it's worth nearly $30. My friend got the Asian chicken salad and the portion was significantly larger and it was cheaper. Curious to have tried that one out. We also got the chips & guac which were decent but the guac was a little too on the creamy side for me. Staff was diligent at refilling waters etc but they also had an air of hoity-toityness. The first thing that stood out was the bartender placing my martini glass on the bar well before preparing the drink. A martini should ideally be served in a chilled glass, so seeing it sit out and warm up before being poured was an odd start. The service continued to miss the mark when the bartender assumed we were only ordering one round and rather abruptly placed the check presenter on the bar before we indicated we'd like another round. It came across as rushed and unwelcoming. In a city like Culver City, where hospitality standards are typically high, I expect service to feel warm and attentive. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. Based on this visit, we weren't impressed with either the service or the overall experience, and it's unlikely we'll be returning. read more

We had our family get together lunch at Laurel Grill on a Saturday late afternoon thanks to my brother who frequent this eatery and suggested for all of us to eat here. Thank you also to our Dad who always pays for all our family get together meals. He wants to continue to do our traditions even after our mom's passing. Laurel Grill provides comfort, ambiance, delicious food and meals along with excellent customer service. Love the patio seating and outside seating along with the indoor dining tables and benches. Thank you to our sweet waitress who made suggestions on what to order and checked on us a few times. At Laurel Grill we decided to order and try the Fried Calamari, 2 orders of Bread Service, Mediterranean Seabass, 2 orders of Rotisserie Chicken, Brisket Sandwich and 2 orders of Cheeseburgers. The Fried Calamari was delicious and crispy. It wasn't salty. Mediterranean Seabass was on point and wasn't over cooked. Rotisserie Chicken was flavorful and tender. Brisket Sandwich and Cheeseburger were plentiful and just delicious. We can't wait to come back to Laurel Grill and try other food items on their menu. I had such a wonderful lunch here with fabulous Yelp friends, Laurel, Nikki & Te-see. It was a beautiful day so we opted to sit on the balcony overlooking Culver City shops. The interior of the restaurant is stunning with a grand piano, fireplace, asymmetrical angles and a wrap around bar. I'm sure it's romantic at night. I was also impressed that they have Toto toilets with all the gadgets and bidets! Kimberly and Isabella, the bartenders who also served us, were amazing throughout our entire dine-in experience and provided excellent service. Now to the food. Maybe going on Friday night was a bad idea. Even though I had reservations, we had to wait.... About 20 minutes. It was packed and very loud. I couldn't hear myself think. It has a nice sized bar tho. There's plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Just not my vibe for a dinner spot. I ordered the sea-bass. Probably the worst sea-bass I have ever had. I actually asked the waitress did they give me the right fish. It tasted like trout. Thin cut. I like thick buttery sea-bass. The Philly cheesesteak rolls were good. Just a tad bit salty. Drinks were good at least. Parking was a hassle. The whole experience was exhausting. Will I go back? Probably not. read more

My experience at Laurel Grill tonight (first time) was awful. I thought it would be nice to take my partner there for his birthday - big mistake. I made a reservation for 7pm. Showed up right on time. Waited 25 minutes before being seated. I made reservations letting them know we were celebrating a bday dinner. No recognition at all. I wasn't going to fight it at the end as we already had a bad taste in our mouths, both literally and figuratively. Our waiter (whose name I will not name) was so inattentive. It started when we asked to have the heating lamp turned on. He forgot about us a few times before my bf spoke up again and asked him to please turn it on. Throughout our dinner experience, I had to ask to have my water be refilled several times. He just completely neglected us. As for the food, we started with the cheesesteak egg rolls. They were a 3/5 but came out completely cold. Then we moved onto the brie starter, which was not appealing 2/5. I was excited to try their pork ragu pasta and it was the worst dish of the 4 we ordered. I actually found it to be inedible. Definitely a 0/5. The only redeeming quality of the entire evening was the pepperoni pizza we ordered which I would give a 4/5. I was so excited to try this place and to spoil my partner, but it turned into a mild disaster and left me highly disappointed. It's our 4th time here. We really enjoyed it the 1st time. However the 2nd time wasn't as good for me. But I'm glad we came back as our 3rd and 4th was wonderful again! We came for lunch to celebrate a birthday which I have noted in the reservation. However, unlike other restaurants, there was no acknowledgement of it. Nada at all! They were also initially sitting us at a dark side of the restaurant and we had to request to be moved to a brighter and "happier" side. It was lunch on a nice sunny day so we want to see some sunshine. There was some resistance too about our request, but they finally gave us the table they were reserving for a "just in case" party. So as you can see, there is much to be desired when it comes to service. At least from the hostesses' side. However, I want to say that our server is really super nice and attentive! So she has more than made up for it. Hence still the 4 star! The Laurel House salad is fresh and refreshing. Hamachi crudo is fresh and delish, which we always enjoy here. We also got the ribeye. Its presentation isn't so good, but it was nicely cooked and flavorful! For sides we had the fries and wild rice. Nothing special about the fries but enjoyed the wild rice! We also had the pineapple pizza which we all enjoyed! For a special occasion, I'd recommend you celebrate somewhere else, where they will at least do something extra. First time here and great first impression was made. Met a friend from out of town here and he thought it was nice and fancy. LG does have an upscale feel, but not uptight or stuffy. I did notice they had a grand piano that was very elegant, but not sure if it's for looks or have a special night when someone actually plays. We did not have a reservation, but was able to get a table rather quickly, the place was sufficiently busy even though it was a Monday night. The staff was super friendly and attentive. My friend ate every morsel on the rack of baby back ribs which I noticed were very tender. I had the pepperoni pizza that had nice size pepperoni's and thin crust and was the perfect personal size to share or for one to take home any extra slices. I had such an amazing time at Laurel Grill! This restaurant is located in the heart of Culver's city and situated in prime location where you can take in the views of the beautiful city. Once you find parking, you can guide yourself up the steps of the square and Laurel Grill is situated at the top. First off, this restaurant is beautiful and has a very classy feel to it. When you first approach, you see that the restaurant has an open concept where attendees can sit on the patio or take themselves inside the cozy restaurant. I was greeted by the lovely staff who upon request, sat me outside. I didn't have reservations but I didn't have an issue getting a table. I absolutely loved the view from the patio and was happy I could people watch. For food, myself and my guest chose a few appetizers which were all delicious. We ordered the make your own hand roll, the meatballs, the bread and the Cesar salad with chicken. Everything was so tasty and I can't wait to come back to try the whole menu. We came here for the food. We ordered the ribeye. That was delivered really well, with good flavor and doneness to my liking. Also had their salad, pizza, carpaccio. Could not complain at all! All were good! Tbh, the waitstaff was excellent. The story goes, twas celebrating a special day and wifey reserved as such even writing it in the comment that there was a celebrant. But no acknowledgment when we got there. Most places would make an effort to greet, write a note, or just surprise ya. Here, oblivion. Before seating us, we had requested for a better seat respectfully since we were early enough and the seat given was slightly dark area with no direct sun or window. Felt sad and requested to be moved but it took finagling before they finally agreed. I digress. We've been here a few times and we enjoy it here. Just wish it gave us a better vibe with this visit, especially as a celebrant day. Anyhoo, would still come back when time permits. Hope all my future experiences here will be more pleasant and consistent and keep serving up good meals. Would I recommend? Yes, the food and ambiance. Service can be better.
