The utensils were not clean and the place is definitely under staffed. Waited over a hour for avocado toast and side salad which ended up taking to go. The server even offer a discount for the inconvenience. I don't understand the hype on Yelp but This place for sure is one to avoid as of today. The benedict was AMAZING and didn't need the goat cheese to make it creamy and delicious. The flavors they create here are ridiculous and the veggies cooked perfectly. It came with potatoes which were good and crunchy. The latte really hit the spot and made the breakfast complete. Atmosphere: Lots of corners cut out for nooks of seating which made every table more intimate and the noise level low. That's pretty amazing considering it was very busy and the whole time we were there the wait was 15-30 minutes deep. The walls are full of decorations or cool paintings and they had a counter stuffed with traditional and vegan desserts. Service: Our waiter was very helpful and gave us time to order. We didnt feel rushed at all which is highly appreciated in a breakfast place where normally as soon as you get your food it comes with the check. Tab: While prices are stereotypical brunch prices, the flavor and portion it comes with is WELL worth it. Really bad service and 10/10 the worst pancakes I ever had in my life. Waited 30 minutes for the pancakes, and when they arrived they had no flavor, they were falling apart and crumbling everywhere. I ordered them vegan and gluten free - and they added butter on top which makes zero sense. Peyton was super rude, and does not know how to treat customers. Literally kicked me out of the restaurant like a dog ( we were sitting outside) because I walked inside without a mask to ask for clean utensils because they gave us dirty and sticky utensils. We ordered the Buffalo Tofu Salad and the Hummus Platter to go for lunch. The pita bread that came with the Hummus arrived warm and tasted so fresh. Hummus was great. The Buffalo Tofu was deed fried and tossed in buffalo sauce and the tofu was meaty in texture. This is a hearty salad and worth splitting with someone. Overall, we would order here again. Hangry while in Chicago I pulled up the Internet in desperate need of some food. Every place I looked mentioned Pick me up Cafe, so I figured I'd walk over and give it a try. I had a good feeling about it since it was open until 2am. Most good places let you sop up the alcohol with their delicious food, so I hoped that this was the case. Plus I wasn't drunk so things would taste better. It's a cute, eclectic place. Not that big so I had to wait for a table. No biggie. I was able to get a menu before I was seated. One thing I didn't know until after is they were one of, if not the first to offer vegan or vegetarian fare, which is cool, if even that's not your thing. They also serve breakfast all day/night, which also is a great sign for me a breakfast lover. Me- I ordered the buffalo chick wrap. There is a tofu option. It's their signature sauce, ranch dressing, lettuce, cheddar and a flour tortilla. Served with a side for $9.00 Service was good. Speed of delivery was great. I scarfed down my food at lightning speed. Overall everything was pretty great here from atmosphere to service to food. Definitely a place I'd recommend no matter what time of day. read more

Decided to stop in here for brunch as we like to support local business. The location is in a spot that we have had many meals in for different businesses: Monticco, Babylon and my ever favorite Cere's Table. As the weather was very nice and we got there around 11 am, I knew we would have to wait, but it was only for 25 minutes. There are several tables to accommodate folks that want to eat outside and they also have indoor dining. The décor is very colorful and I was happy to see that the tile floor that was installed by Cere's as you enter the restaurant was still there. I love the way the tables are decorated, with different art and designs. Once we were seated, we looked over the menu and all decided on the Cancun Combo (chorizo, green peppers, onions, cheddar & potatoes. served with salsa & sour cream). I got a side of Italian Sausage, but be warned, it is not a whole sausage but crumbles. My BFF and I decided to split an order of pecan pancakes. The Cancun Combo was all right, but my BFF and I bought commented on it was overcooked as everything was very brown, including the pancakes. I lucked out and got two whole and a half that were cooked fined, but my BFF's were almost most black on the bottom. Watching her cut into them, they looked somewhat tough. The Cancun had some good flavors and there was plenty of food, but I would have preferred everything not to be so brown. The service was slow, but I will say that it was not the fault of our server Lavinia. She was hustling, serving everyone inside and outside, all on her own...for that, she is why this review is getting a third star. She never stopped moving, bringing out food and drinks. That said, with the owners should have anticipated that there would be a crowd based on the weather, the neighborhood and it being a Sunday. I could see our server running back and forth, trying to take care of anyone, but she was only one person. With the number of people dining, there should have been more help. Our food was slow coming out, so we were wondering if there was just one cook back there handling all of the orders for in-house dining as well as carry out/deliver orders. Food was not hot, more lukewarm. I will give them props on the $4 mimosas, that was lovely. I was also very happy to see that they were seriously sanitizing between customers. A lot of places are doing the QR scans for menus, but PMUC still has menus in plastic. I was pleased to see the bus woman cleaning them with disinfectant after picking them up from the table. Based on today's experience, I can't say I will be running back here for brunch right away as I was not that impressed. Perhaps things would have gone better if food has not been overcooked and came out warm or we come when it is not so busy. There are items on the menu that The Doctor, my BFF and I would like to try (Stir fry looks promising on paper), but hopefully our next visit will be more fruitful. PMUC has promise, but will have to step its game up if they want to do well in the neighborhood as the competition is stiff. There are plenty of business doing brunch right and to make the assumption you will survive just because you are doing some things right is a false one. Cere's Table was the only restaurant in that spot that left due to relocation, the others came and went due to telephoning in service and quality. I like the idea of something close by to walk to for a meal, but that won't be enough to get me in the door. I hope that the next time I am at PMUC, I have a different experience. read more

The space is really nice. My friend and I enjoyed their food. I had the Tuscany Scramble (special) and he had the Breakfast Burrito. The portions are definitely large. Service was slow as I felt like they were growing and roasting the coffee beans for my Americano. Also, the room temperature was very cold for someone who naturally prefers cold. Because of these two experiences, I cannot give a higher rating. However, I will go back hoping this was a glitch as the pancakes looked delicious a table over from me. read more

A perfect 10 all the way around! I am dbl vaccinated, but did not have my mask. I am very happy they allowed me to.stay because I just finished my work out after surveying a job - I was very hungry. A high quality crisp romaine lettuce salad with fresh mushrooms, crisp cucumber, and home made honey mustard that was the best I've ever had anywhere. The chicken was perfectly cooked and I was not hungry when I left because they actually give you enough chicken in the salad - unlike some places. The veggie chili was very good with a nice bite of cayenne the way I like it, and the way I make it! I could not leave without getting a brownie to go that I was eyeballing since I walked in! It too was amazing. I earned that brownie! Haha The service was very friendly and courteous. Kudos to an owner and cook who take pride in serving high quality great tasting food! Incredible. We came before the rush on Sunday around 8:30, and there were only a few tables. The waitress was awesome. Super fast, attentive, came and checked in multiple times. I got the Cancun skillet with a bagel. Comes with sour cream and salsa, but cream cheese is a whole $1 extra. It was SO good. This is what I've been looking for when I say I want a good hearty breakfast/brunch. My boyfriend got the clown combo, and upgraded to apple cinnamon pancakes. The pancakes were to die for. This place is great if you're looking for lots of Vegan options, but DO NOT eat here if you have food allergies. The waitstaff assured us that there were no nuts in anything we ordered, we asked that they put a note about the allergy on the order for the kitchen anyways, then had a reaction to something almost immediately after starting to eat. The waitstaff then took their time bringing us boxes and our check -- over ten minutes when we told them we had to leave because of an allergic reaction, seriously?! The food we ordered may not have had nuts as ingredients like the waitstaff said, but if that's the case then there are serious cross contamination issues in their kitchen. read more

After a 30 minute wait for a table, we decided to split the short stax vegan chocolate chip pancakes, he ordered the vegan benedict (fried tofu, peppers, mushrooms, onions, spinach & tomatoes served on an english muffin with vegan sauce; served with home fries), and I ordered the cancun combo (chorizo, green peppers, onions, cheddar & potatoes; served with salsa & sour cream). My dish also came with a bagel (I went with an everything bagel) and then added cream cheese for an additional cost. I read other reviews about the long wait times and was slightly worried given I needed to leave around 1pm, but 45 minutes seemed like enough time to be served food and finish eating. After 30 minutes had passed, I checked in with the waitress and she assured us that our food was coming soon and apologized for the wait. About 10 minutes later, we finally received our food, giving us only 5-10 minutes to eat. We had to rush through our meal and ask for the check immediately. On top of that, the waitress ended up bringing us the wrong pancakes (vegan buttermilk), and we had to cancel the order because the vegan chocolate chip pancakes were never entered into the system, and we didn't have time to wait for them. While my friend liked his vegan benedict, he said it wasn't as enjoyable given he had to eat so quickly. I found the cancun combo to be pretty average (like something I could make at home) and thought the vegan buttermilk pancakes were flavorless (I think the chocolate chip ones would've been better). Based on food, I'd rate Pick Me Up Cafe three stars, but the long wait time and incorrect order led me to deduct one star. The waitress was very sweet and apologetic, but unfortunately the quality of food and service left me disappointed. First of all the coffee was cold and tested like shitt.So I took it like a man and sit to enjoy my over priced watered coffee. Long story short a waiter approached me and told me ( I am sorry but I have to kick you out ) so I said no problem let me get my refund and I leave he said come inside I said; Nope Thank you, i am good just bring me my refund I will wait her. Got my refund after 5 minutes and I asked the waiter to share his mane since he made contact with me he said I am not comfortable to give you my name but he was super comfortable to kid me out for no reason or explanation. So i decided to take seat until a manager comes out to ask me to leave. Finally a masked male come out and asked me what is going on I said ask your waiter So he did... come back to me and made the situation clear that to Go orders are not to sit on the patio and eat there order So I explained that i paid for my coffee and i like to enjoy it While I'm waiting for my car to be ready next door possibly 30 to 40 minutes. Just for the record 4 tables ware empty and there ware running out of most of there menu items anyway. This place is cute... stuff Not and managers need a bit of training and if you are a coffe shop, you need to work on your coffee services. Better coffee grains and a bitt warmer please. And please dont be racist. And hire a color person if you Mr. Joe owner claim that you are not racist. With that said I am super disappointed and I wont advice anyone to do business until you guys until I hear an apology from the real owners. I used yelp to find somewhere in walking distance with good reviews. There's not a whole lot of space but at least I could bop in my seat to the old school goodies playing from the jukebox. Still rattled after just walking out of this hell hole. I've been to this restaurant multiple times over the past 60 days, going as far as scheduling casual business meetings. Good business for them. I send it back and inform that rather than order again and wait. I'll pay for my americano and the bagel that I ate. They give a bill with the dish that I ordered not removed. I inform again what I'm willing to pay for. They've also got 2 coffees on the bill. She and this dude then lean on my table telling me that I'm going to pay for what they say. They both declare themselves the owners. I reply that I'll go get exact cash for what's appropriate to pay for. After an impromptu night out (consisting of consuming more alcohol than my current person appreciates) I needed a pick me up... so where better to come for some vegan carbs?! Ba-dum-chh. The inside wasn't too busy and I was able to bring my service animal inside with no trouble. I sat in a cozy corner by the window and was helped by a friendly and attentive server who was thoughtful enough to make a suggestion for my meal! I ordered the vegan sloppy joe with my side choice of a tomato soup with veggies & potatoes. I ordered a house cup of coffee and they provided me soy milk for it instead of half and half for no extra charge (this always means a lot to me because most places unnecessarily charge exorbitant fees for alternative milk and we all know the cost is not THAT different than regular milk) in a little steel creamer pitcher. I was finding the tan to be dizzying (the light refracting perpetually due to the fan blades) and they were very casual and kind about accommodating my request of turning it off. I enjoyed the ambiance and the colors that brightened up this otherwise gloomy and rainy day. I stayed for awhile and slowly finished my coffee and food. Speaking of which! The sloppy joe was exactly like what you would expect it to taste like which is pretty impressive considering it's vegan! The soup was warm and filling and the perfect choice for this day- thanks again to my awesome server for the suggestions! The price points were also surprisingly reasonable; I'm so accustomed to expecting exorbitantly high prices (especially when it's vegan) and my entire meal and coffee was under $17!
