Thought I'd try this location again since it's so Close the house. I called last week to order and no one picked up the phone on a Friday night at 6 pm. This time when I showed to pick up my order I was not greeted by anyone. It didn't look extremely busy, it just seemed like no one cares. I ordered Kung Pao shrimp and chicken fried rice. Shrimp were totally rubberized the sauce was ok. The fried rice tastes like salt. I guess I should have steered clear of this spot. This place serve pure crap. We ordered fire cracker chicken which was way over cooked and hard as a rock, also order combo fried rice. Now how can you screw that up. Well they did. Worst I ever had. Not a big fan of pick up sticks, but not because the food is bad. In fact it's very good! I I don't pick chains often to dine. But I do have to say , try this sometime. THE WORST customer service. Dropped in to Pick Up Sticks at 8:50 to grab a quick bite to eat. As we walked in we were greeted w obvious disappointment (they close at 9:00). We were quick to order which seemed appreciated. We sat down at a table and we're then given our order in a bag. When we were given our food, we politely said it was for here (not to go), the "supervisor" told us we had to leave or eat outside because he would be liable for us after closing. Having managed restaurants and bars in San Diego for over a decade, this seemed absurd. It is now 9:17 and we are still driving so I can't comment on the food. Dropped by well before five on a Monday evening. One couple ahead of me at the order counter. Ordered a to-go order of fried rice and beef Chow Mein with shrimp added. It took a good 30 minutes to get our order. At first there was just one cook and one lady trying to take orders at the counter, answer the phones and deliver food to diners as well as fix to go orders. Finally a second cook arrived and later another counter person showed up. Way too long to wait for a take out order. When we got it home it was good, but not sure it was worth the wait. Better than average "fast-casual" Chinese food. Good choice for vegetarians since you can substitute tofu for any protein. Worst of the Carlsbad locations. They have a tendency to take a long time preparing your food, with the occasional mishap of forgetting about your order. You're better off at one of the other Carlsbad locations. read more

Basically "Chinese" fast food. You order at the counter, they hand you a plastic cup for your beverage and you sit down in a cafeteria style space. They bring your food in containers and a plastic plate with plastic utensils. I will say you get a lot...easily enough for two people. I ordered the House special chicken with vegetables (oddly, it did not come with vegetables and they cost extra...I guess the actual dish is just chicken). It tasted ok, was better when I put hot sauce on it. The chicken was heavily breaded. If you're really hungry and in a hurry, it's ok but I doubt I'll be back. read more

Giving one star not because of food but for one reason. On three occasions my daughter and I were hassled by an employee, on our last visit mid June my daughter just wanted to leave he made her feel uncomfortable and scared. I tried to contact Corporate offices, couldn't get a live person, had to leave an e-mail; site stated that someone would respond soon, it has been over three weeks! The steamed dumplings were the shizznit. So good. And I love edamame - I would punch a baby if I could get them from a fast food place near work. This is my favorite place for quick and tasty dining. Phone orders are ready in ten minutes or less for pickup and staff is friendly. They are always happily willing to substitute tofu in any of their dishes for vegetarian diets. Flavors are delightful and prices are affordable. read more

First time to eat Pick Up Stix with my 2 kids - had a wonderful experience. I ordered the house special, my son ordered beef w brocolli and my daughter ordered honey chicken - all were excellent. Seems prepared fresh (not reheated). Service was good. Place was clean. My experience was so great at this location, I just had to write a Yelp review for it. Consistently good food and service here. We stop inn maybe once every other week for a quick meal, and it's always been great. Bourbon chicken is lightly sweet, and the sweet and sour chicken is always a decent staple. Try the chocolate dipped fortune cookies. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. I just moved to Carlsbad from NorCal in late November and have literally eaten here over a dozen times already because my house is 2 miles away. The staff is super friendly, the food is fresh and tasty, and the place is always spotless. Plus you get PF Chang quality food at a fraction of the price. I travel for work and have been eating lunch at pick up Stix all over San Diego for months now. I enjoy the house special salad with chicken, and although I am very busy, I make the time to go inside and order it to go. On this particular day, I visited this location. Upon entering, I would say that there was maybe 12 customers in the store. There was a man ordering ahead of me. I didn't hear what he had ordered but I did hear the cashier tell him that it was going to be about 15 to 20 minutes. Naturally I assumed his order must've been for a group or something similar given a timeline of such a large amount for "fast food". The cashier didn't seem too friendly, and definitely not welcoming. That's not cross my mind that I really hope this Bizzarre wait time wasn't going to be something I had to deal with either given I just ordered a salad. It was my time to order. I said hello first, and then once he finally looked up at me and acknowledge me, I asked for the house special salad with chicken to go. Sure enough, the cashier gave me his disclaimer in a very rude way, and told me it would be approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Being in a hurry that I am, I asked him why there was such a wait?? He looks at me like I was unintelligent.. kinked his head to the side and then waved his arm across the room in a manner to show me how busy they were and followed it with "ahhh.. we are very busy.." blatantly rude like. Personally I don't think 12 guests in a rather large pick up Stix would constitute for such rude and dismissive behavior nor would I call that " slammed". I looked for a name tag, and noticed he wasn't wearing one, so I asked him what his name was.. he said "Josh". I told him "thanks, I'm good" and walked out. This place lost my service. I was already making time I barely had to walk in to order.. and in my industry, lunch meetings are fairly common. This will definitely be off the list of potential meeting places! On a coupon we tried this place mid May and it was pretty solid. Not what I typically pull for a lunch as I'm a sandwich salad type of guy for lunch. We got the chicken kungpow with fried rice and the shrimp vegi brown rice bowl. Both tasty and recommended. Normally i'm a fan of pick up sticks but they are false advertising a dish that i had to comment on. We ordered the Thai coconut curry chicken, and there is little to no coconut flavor in the dish and there is basically no sauce. so it's not a typical type of curry dish at all. Called in an order to pick up, drove out of my way to get it, and wasn't able to pick it up because my card wouldn't swipe and the older lady at the register apparently wasn't allowed to enter the numbers from my credit card that she was holding?? Makes no sense, I'm only giving this review because of how the lady at the register handled the situation. Im not sure if she was just having a bad night or if she truly has ZERO customer service skills. After she tried swiping it a few times she said in a very snappy tone "So what do you want me to do about it" I said "you really can't just enter the numbers?" And in a rude tone she said "REALLY" and proceeded to laugh like I was dumb or something. I'm not sure if she was the manager or if there was even a manager around to see how rude she was acting.
