Pickett's is a great addition to the Maplewood bar and restaurant scene. They're one of my go-tos whether I just want a drink and a snack or a full meal. It feels more like a gastropub than a bar or homey pub. It's a very welcoming spot, just a little more sophisticated than the local town pub. The bartender is amazing. From memory, there's a white sangria and limoncello-based drink that I really love, and a smoky spicy margarita or tequila type one too that I like too. The bang-bang shrimp are my favorite app and I can make a meal of them if I'm only mildly hungry (I use the lettuce as kind of a wrap). I really like the chicken diablo sandwich. The burgers are really good too if I'm feeling heartier. The mushroom and swiss with caramelized onions is my favorite bc if I'm gonna do a burger I wanna get my hands a little dirty (see photo before I demolish the presentation). The bathrooms were in good shape. Plenty of large TVs primarily behind the bar but also in the corner of the restaurant to watch live sports. We did not appreciate how close the tables to each other however. We sat so close to the couples next to us that we felt like we were part of their conversations and couldn't have our own without being heard. Food: Just okay. Which... was shocking based on the looks of it. The food came to the table and it really looked incredible. The more we ate it the more we realized there wasn't really much flavor to it. It's hard to explain it but it really was so bland. Which, is always disappointing but especially when you're paying the prices they charge. Conclusion: I do not recommend eatting at Picketts. A cozy atmosphere. Nice simple decor. Obviously a nice addition to the local area as another local hang spot. Bartender was friendly and gave me time to decide as well as chatted it up for a few minutes. Sometimes bartenders are too cut and dry. Ample space for groups. Quite a few families with kids. I came around 5:45ish. Not very loud which I appreciate. I ordered the honey sriracha wings & sweet potato fries (simple since I was real hungry and don't want to be disappointed). So the fries were good, as expected. The wings had a little kick but didn't really taste the honey or much spice (I like spice). Think I probably would try the chipotle lime wings next time. Overall I like the place as a nice after work chill spot. Down side: no happy hour. The food I'd probably give 3 stars. One of my friends and I met up here to catch up. When I arrived at about 4:30 I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and they were just opening. I was greeted and decided to sit at the bar. The spot was so cute and spacious, also they had indoor and outdoor dining. I was told they were having a band that night as well as they frequently do. Our bartender was Ray and it was his first day but he did so well and kept his composure. For my drink I ordered the fresh made red sangria and that wasn't bad at all. My friend ordered a glass of white wine which she enjoyed. For my meal I ordered the beyond meat burger with fries and that was good and filling. *This bar has a lot of vegan and vegetarian options fyi.* I also ordered the malbec wine and that was pretty tasty. They've recently gotten rid of all highchairs and their kids menu, which just seems like a big middle finger to families. Used to be you'd go to eat here around 5-6pm and it was very friendly family - not sure what happened. We had a reservation for 4pm recently where I specified needing a high chair (not knowing about their new unfriendliness) and no one bothered to tell us they had zero on premise until we arrived. Also the parking lot for some reason now blares uncensored explicit songs, which would be fine for any place that wasn't previously known as family-friendly or if it wasn't 4pm. Right across from the Audi dealership in a former dive bar is now an elegant but casual neighborhood eatery. Picketts has great food, a lovely dining room and an inviting and large outdoor space in the back. My son ordered the cheeseburger from the kid's menu and I had the fish tacos. The former received two thumbs up: the burger is a nice size, served on a nice toasted bun along with a generous order of fries. The fries are served in a basket lined with Picketts parchment paper, which was a nice touch. The fish tacos were yummy and satisfying. Three fresh, crispy battered fish filets are stuffed in your choice of corn or flour tortillas (I opted for the corn, which added a hint ofsweetness). The topping was not the typical cabbage slaw that I usually see in California; instead, it's a savory mix of pico de gallo, cojita cheese and citrus. Squeeze a bit of lime on top and this is a perfect summer meal! The only downside is parking: since the parking lot is now a dining area, you have to park on the street. What I like best about this place is the owner (very friendly and you know he's there when the white Corvette is parked in front), the lead bartender (very friendly and attentive) the bar itself (very comfortable) and the Bang Bang Shrimp. It is very nice to have Pickett's in our town. In the summer they may have live music outside in the back, the place is cozy and when you step in you feel like you can sit down and relax. I've come for several different occasions - dinner with friends, anniversary dinners, networking at the bar for a small local business group I organized, girls night out, dates and to help my twins celebrate their Confirmation with a round of Shirley Temples and a fresh pizza pie. Honestly, the service and food quality is uneven. Sometimes it is great, sometimes it's not. You never know what you're going to get. Abysmal service. We were at an event outside the restaurant, and outside there was only a BBQ buffet option for $30. Organizers of the event said we could just order from the restaurant if you want. Inside the restaurant we were told we could NOT order from the menu and sit outside. This was adamantly insisted on by one a-hole bartender (short with short brown hair). He insisted we were not allowed to eat their food outside even if we ordered takeout, stating "If you order it here, you have to eat it here." He did not seem to appreciate how completely ridiculous and infuriating this was to customers. Other servers thankfully told us we COULD just order takeout on the website and eat it outside. What an insane system. Also, when an outside bartender was asked for water, she said they didn't have any. Fortunately I had just seen another employee pull a water out of her cooler and give it to another customer. When I pointed this out, she said they weren't allowed to give out water. Wtf?!?! It was like 90 degrees outside!! That has to be a health code violation. I insisted and she relented, getting me the water. Finally, when we did order some takeout, when I went in to pick it up, the bag with fries and sauce had no napkins in it. When I asked the server for some paper napkins, she told me they didn't have any. But there was a stack right in front of her! I looked at the stack and she said sorry and gave me some. Who is training these people??!?? Also my friends were told by the event staff that bringing their 2 dogs on leashes was fine, but one of the restaurant staff tried to tell them they couldn't have dogs at the outdoor event. After my friends found an event organizer, he was able to get permission to keep the dogs in an area way off to the side and far from the soundstage, and with no tables and chairs. We scrounged some unused stools and made do. In short the event was great but the restaurant was nothing but hassles, and staff displayed a shocking lack of hospitality and competence. How has this place survived? We will certainly NEVER return, and recommend you avoid it if you want anything resembling good or even average customer service. Small complaint is no back on the chairs at the table. This is a pet peeve of mine when I want to spend a few hours at a place to listen to live music. Good times Picketts! Went to Picketts for the first time to see a band, Fishmarket Stew, for the first time. Sat out in the Tent area, which looks like their parking lot. There was another outdoor seating area, the Patio, which looked chill, and then inside, which I didn't spend much time in. There was also a nother cool covered area outside with high tables. Great set up. There were a lot of families with children. A surprising amount of children. The food and service were great. We split a Harvest Salad with greens,maples nuts, etc. It was fresh and tasty, and also shared the fried cauliflower with the garlic Parm seasoning. The cauliflower was a surprise hit. She had the chicken street tacos, which she loved despite them being in the spicy side. Lots of flavor.
