I had the pick two with 1/2 italian salad and blt. The salad was very good. The blt was 80% bread and small with perhaps 1 oz of bacon and 1 oz of lettuce and tomato. There was more mayo than anything. I want to try the pizza. What will keep me from coming back is the mandatory tip of 15%-25% that was sprung on me after I had already swiped my card. I tip well. However, this was for a takeout order. Why not just raise prices and pay the staff what you want the customer to believe is going to them? I'd bet the feeling staff does not see the accounting and consequently has no idea how much they didn't receive in tips but should have. My friends and I ate at the Walnut Street Pickleman's one Saturday before we were to usher at the Gillioz Theater ( we were there around Halloween) for the play. Not only were the employees rude and unfriendly, but when I received my order, a cup of soup and a small salad, I went to eat the roll and noticed it was covered in mold on the underside!! Since we were eating in, I took the roll up front and showed it to one of the employees. She simply asked me if I'd like a new roll...without any reaction, surprise or otherwise!! She actually stated that "Oh, yeah, that happens sometimes"!! Forget it...I WILL NOT eat there again.... read more

Stopped in for lunch. There was a decently long line, but it cleared out rather quickly. Yay to efficient service. I had a salad-soup combo (baja chicken and the cafe chop with mustard vinaigrette) with a soda. The cost for 1/2 soup and salad was a bit pricey to be perfectly honest. It was almost $10. I'd like to note that I truly don't mind spending money on a good meal. I mean, the specialty Coco Cola Freestyle machine in the restaurant sure was cool, but 100 options of soda when all I want is a Diet Dr. Pepper doesn't elevate the meal above run of the mill in any way. As for the food: It was ok, nothing spectacular. The roll with the soup was tasty, and the mustard vinaigrette was quite delightful. The baja chicken soup, however, was rather underwhelming. I expected it to be a thinner broth base, but instead, it was more tomato-y. There was nothing wrong with it, so much as it was the case that it just wasn't my thing. As for the salad, it had fine-shredded cheese. I found out rather recently that I must be in the majority in HATING fine-shredded cheese. I guess I'm a weirdo, but I hate the texture. Aside from my own weird food aversions, the salad was fine, just nothing spectacular. Finally, I think it's important to note the ick factor associated with my visit here. My lunch companions and I were looking for a table and thought we found a good one. I put my tray down and then picked it back up within mere seconds after I saw at least 30 ants on the table. There were so many on there that the table must not have been cleaned for a decent period of time. I mean, I know it was during a lunch rush, but eww. Just eww. At least they were only ants, right?! In any case, although my lunch wasn't spectacular, I did like some aspects of it. Additionally, Pickleman's menu is pretty varied for a sandwich-type shop. Finally had my first Pickleman's experience as the work group wanted some quick carryout. I will also say that I am basing this review on one items only as it was all I ordered. I had the Hodge Podge sandwich which comes with capicola, ham, lettuce, mayo, provolone, salami, tomato, and turkey. First and foremost the sandwich was delicious. I wasnt sure about the mayo with the capicola and salami but the whole thing worked well. The bread also had great flavor and a nice chewy texture. I would happily each this sandwich on a regular basis.... however 7.99 for a stand alone sandwich of that size seems pricey. As I look at the stunning photos on the Picklemans website of sandwiches bursting at the seems with meat, veggie and cheesy goodness, I am left wondering how my delicious but very little sandwich missed the fillings boat. I'm thinking chips and a drink for 7.99 seems a little more appropriate and makes for a happier customer. Will I go back.... probably as I did love the sandwich but will I go as often I would like to to the issues mentioned ... hmmmm read more

A really cute sanwhich shop, nicer than jimmy johns, not as good as Penn station. Their chips are really good and they are super fast. The prices are also very fair. The food is tasty, however, if you're starving, you won't get a lot of food for the price. The one thing is, if the fans and light are on, don't eat on the inside. The reason for this is poor architecture design. The lights are a light-blue color, and when the fans are on it creates a strobe effect, and this will make you feeling sick. But, if you are looking for a somewhat expense snack, this would be the place to go. If you're a student, and it's the summer, they have (last time I went) tables outside and it's nice to do work at. They do a lot of deliveries, good and friendly customer service, and there is bicycle parking across the road. read more

This was my first time going to Pickleman's and I received a mediocre sandwich. I ordered a #6 which was just chunks of chicken, asiago cheese slices, and 2 strips of rubbery bacon. If there was more options to add to the sandwich it wasn't made very clear before I paid for it. I've definitely had better sandwiches in this price range. Not to mention it seemed quite overstaffed. Delivery driver was frustrated sounding when he called the restaurant to report the wrong food. The sandwiches here were totally blah, but the service was terrible! Boo thinks that maybe they had the "B Team" staff going on this Saturday afternoon, but I don't think that's really a great excuse. Their staff seemed to have no system in place to orderly serve customers. When we got in line (behind maybe 5 people, split between two groups), the man behind the counter in the "sandwich prep" area immediately took our order. I wanted a BLT (with no cheese - who puts CHEESE on a BLT. That's gross) and Boo had a turkey sandwich I think. The guy assembled the meats and I guess moved them down the "line," because a couple minutes later, a girl asked what kinds of condiments/vegetables we wanted on our sandwiches. She added those things with reasonable skill/timeliness, wrapped them, and wrote the order of each sandwich on the wrapper. At this point, the two groups in front of us had (so far as we could tell) been served, and we were up next to pay. Except that, right after finishing the previous customer's transaction, the girl working the register stepped away and started to make salads. None of the staff (maybe 5 in total) would make eye contact with us, although we were standing at the register, next to our prepared sandwiches, with money in hand. I can understand if staff needs to be shuffled or quickly step away to serve customers that are waiting, but this was not a lunch rush. They were not being slammed. I don't think there was even anyone behind us in line. They just decided that it was time to do something other than serve the hungry, patient customers ready to pay for their lunches. We waited for about 5 minutes (although it seemed much longer - I was hungry!) and still no-one acknowledged our existence. Finally, when I was seriously prepared to walk out and go somewhere else, Boo spoke up: "Excuse me, is there anyone working the register right now?" Now, you know things have gone south when BOO makes a fuss - he is seriously the most laid-back person I've ever known (except for his dad, who is the chill master) and never complains or makes a fuss with servers. I am usually the exact opposite, which is why we go so well together! Right! Right?? So anyhow, finally one of the young women "working" there says she'll take care of it, and with minimal (although noticeable) sighing and eye-rolling, she rang us up. We even got a pickle and cookie (I would have skipped these extras so as to not give them more business, but Boo had already asked for them and we were HUNGRY) and went to our seats. After all of that, the sandwich was pretty dang bland. I know a BLT is nothing fancy, but I did get avocado (a very minimal "smear") and expected it to at least taste bacony and tomato-y. Although maybe that is a stretch, expecting tomatoes to have any taste in the middle of winter. Regardless, there were maybe 2 sad little rashers of bacon on my sandwich, the aforementioned flavorless tomatoes and smear of avocado, and a MOUNTAIN of shredded iceberg lettuce. Seriously, I didn't realize that people still even used iceberg! Time warp! Boo's sandwich was equally underwhelming. I would not go back, even though the pickle and cookie were pretty good. Next time I'll take the time to consult yelp (rather than, say, what I SEE in front of my FACE) to pick a restaurant downtown. As for Mr. Pickleman, you and your employees need to learn that customer service and quality product are the cornerstones of successful businesses! read more

Let me preface this review with the fact that I used to not have a problem with this location. Food was delivered on time, order was never wrong and food was hot when it arrived. That was before... Within the last month, I have ordered four times (shame on me, right?). First order, pizza was wrong and I let it go. Second weekend, order correct. Third order, pizza was not cut and wrong toppings. This time I call and explained that the order was wrong. Didn't say what was wrong, just that it was wrong. I was told by the person who picked up and I'm paraphrasing, "Yeah, yours was the one that I forgot to cut." Hmm, if you knew, how come it got sent out? "Sorry, I'm new. Would you like another sent to you?" Please, because not only wasn't it cut, the onions and black olives were left off. "Okay, we will send out another one." An hour later, driver shows up with another pizza... and it's still wrong. Still no onions. Call them up and they pretty much said that they can send out another. Then I get this response by the "manager". "What do you want me to do?" I said nothing can be done now because I don't want another pizza because I'm gonna eat the latest one that was sent out because I was starving. Some manager when they ask me what should be done. Fourth and absolutely the last weekend, ordered the same pizza like I have for the past four months (like I said, didn't use to have a problem). Automated response to ordering online says 45 minutes. So I wait an hour and 15 minutes. Same manager, "There's nothing I can do, I've only got one driver and he is just now leaving with your order." First thought, had my food been sitting there since I first ordered 75 minutes ago? Answer was... most likely. Food shows up cold and 1 hour and 45 minutes after I originally ordered it. Did I call again? Nope, I ate in silent rage and 15 minutes later for violently sick like I've just had an all night bender. Save yourselves some grief and sore stomach muscles. I get that you're busy but we're at a professional meeting and if you can't guarantee a time then don't give one. So, nothing has changed about the quality of the food specifically. But the delivery service has consistently been poor the past year (Walnut location) with forgetting items and my sandwiches have mostly been made incorrectly (paying for extra meat but not getting it, leaving off toppings, etc). read more

I don't know what it's like to have them do catering. I have gone in several times to eat lunch and order one sandwich. Every time I go in, they get my order wrong. The system they have for gathering the requirements for your sandwich is clearly broken. The employees are rude and do not care at all even if they mess your order up. They will not give you a discount or refund when they mess your order up, they will just look at you like they don't care and half-heartedly apologize. JJ and PM are almost equidistant to my work, and PM got here just as fast as JJ usually does- which was my biggest concern in trying a new delivery place. I've had quite a few sandwiches here and usually they are uniform in the consistency and taste but my last visit had a disappointing experience. ordered 2 subs, pizza guy & Italian club and the slices of meat were more generous at Aushchwitz... I've had notebook paper with thicker slices... basically all bread. I'm not sure what happened here but don't expect a sandwich like the pictures on the wall. read more

I ordered my food online at 9:44. The est. del. time was 30 min. At 10:28 I called the restaurant. I was told the delivery was on its way. It is now 11:14 and I still do not have the food I ordered. I have attempted to call the restaurant back and their phone is now "temporarily unavailable." I am sure the staff there thinks they are being slick. I am sure they think I won't bother speaking with the general manager first thing Monday. I definitely will. Who treats customers this way? I've never eaten at Pickleman's before. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORSE PLACE IN TOWN!!! I work downtown and every time I order from them it takes an hour to deliver. When I work 3 min away(walking). They always mess up the order/forget something. I decided to walk down there and order. The guy I order from was very rude n short with me. Then as he messes up someone's else's order and get upset and throws it in the trash. Mind you 4 other employees just standing around staring into space. He grabs my sandwich asking if I want everything as I replied yes. Plus avocado, black olives , etc. He pays no attention slops on big bloop of mayo on it and lettuce and wraps it up!!!
