There was no waitress in the tiny tables section so I'm not sure how I would have known that was how I was to order for here. Took them 10 minutes to make a tuna sandwich. Wasn't crowded at all. I wanted to pay for my slaw at that time because I was starving. I was told I had to pay all at once when my sandwich arrived. So I had to stand there with food in my hand that I couldn't eat for 10 minutes. Food comes out and when I said I'd like to eat it here she tells me I would have had to place the order with the waitress (who was never there). To-go bag had no napkins or utensils. I originally heard a lot of great things about this place, so I had high expectations when I arrived there. I am vegan so I was excited to see a vegetable wrap on the menu. I ordered the VEGGIE wrap without cheese and mayo for $10. Not only did I find cheese on my wrap after I picked it apart, but a few random pieces of CHICKEN. Really disappointed in my experience with Picnic Basket today.. I returned to work excited and hungry after picking up my favorite sub for lunch, only to find that my sandwich had no toppings! When I called to inform them that they forgot half of my sandwich in the kitchen, they told me I could drive all the way back to the shop to get the sandwich remade, otherwise they could give me $5 credit. $5?! For an almost $10 sub? Unfortunately I don't think my place of employment would give me a second lunch break to drive back to Picnic Basket to get the sub I had ordered in the first place, so I regrettably took the credit. Apparently the fair compensation was to pay for HALF of my next sub after giving me half of the sub I paid for. Great subs (usually). Poor customer service. read more

Food was great, waitress was fun and it fit the atmosphere to a tee when I think of small town diners. The Reuben my girlfriend ordered was delicious and I don't even like Corned beef, my Italian was phenomenal and the sides were about what i expect from a sandwich place. I would recommend to anyone. Best subs I have had in years. Possibly best in the mid-west BUT they gut throw these bundles of delight in cheap loose baggies resulting in a sloppy soggy mess. When her sandwich was delivered to our car she opened the container and it was steaming hot. I can't express to you how much we appreciate a shop that follows through on unique requests like this. This place has some pretty decent sandwiches and staff. I can't really complain. It's not fancy or anything, but it's very homey. You walk in and you can either order for to-go or take a seat. We took a seat and checked out the menus. They had cold and hot sandwiched. We ordered an appetizer of dead ends, I ordered a french dip with kettle chips and my wife got a Ruben with pasta salad. The dead ends were toasted end-pieces of loaves of bread with cheese on them, served with marinara sauce; very delicious and simple. The sandwiches we got were HUGE. The meat tasted fresh and the au-ju sauce was very obviously made in-house. This place is really good quality food for the family at a very reasonable price. read more

They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, but we have only eaten here lunches (usually once a week or so). They also do a large business in catered lunches and holiday picnics. A full lunch menu. Known for their pizza. And in the past year or so, they have featured a weekly sandwich based on one of the 50 states. Wisconsin, when it comes around was two mini brats with a cranberry sauerkraut. REALLY good. Sandwiches (or subs) can be very generous. They also have one or two daily soup selections in the colder months. This is the go to lunch spot for all the area contractors. For that reason, my wife and I usually go a little later for lunch to avoid a short wait for a table. They have nice outside tables on the porch and patio, so in the summer, order to go then take it outside. No waiter service at the outside tables. Regularly ranked as #1 sandwich shop in greater Milwaukee area "Best Of" listings. If you go for lunch most likely Ann will be your waitress. She keeps a full dining room moving very smoothly. They have a frequent dinners program for subs so be sure to ask if you plan to eat here regularly. They also have another location in Wauwatosa, but I've never been there. read more

This place has been around for quite some time and im sad to say that I only began going there two years ago. The prime rib sandwich has to be tried to be believed! The Picnic Basket is hands down the BEST place to get amazing sandwiches in Wisconsin. We live an hour away and my partner and I jokingly "go for a drive" on weekends just to come here. Very fresh food. We had the pizza which was made on a very thin crispy crust and a thin slightly sweet sauce. The sausage was laid on it in large slab-like portions. Fresh subs and even frozen pizza is great! I usually get the Pesto Chicken Sub here for lunch which is great and so big I can only eat half of it. Do yourself a favor and grab a couple of their frozen pizzas. They are unlike any frozen pizza you've ever had!
