Because my first review was flagged and removed, which is sadly a norm for this establishment, I'll share my first-hand experience again. The overpriced dishes lack in taste and creativity, and the service is sub-par at best. It's disgusting that their management is going to such lengths to delete honest customer reviews. In a city of culinary greatness and an abundance of choices for healthy, well-made food, Picnik just didn't do it for me. I had the harvest hash: it was gross. The onion and sage kind of cancelled each other out, so it lacked any taste at all. The egg made everything soggy and lumpy, again, did nothing for taste. For $16.50? That's just rude. My friend got avocado toast --again, a big mean joke. The basil pesto is just a stupid addition to a basic avocado smashed on a piece of bread. Paying good money for good food is definitely well worth it, but the thing is.. this food just isn't good. Even at half off, it's still debatable due to the DOZENS of better choices in this city. Don't trust the other reviews, clearly they're doing a cleanup of the real, first-hand experiences. Not cool, Picnik! This is probably my favorite place to splurge on breakfast at. So many good things to say about this place, y'all. The entire menu is gluten-free. On the menu, you can see all of the local farms they get all of their produce from. Fantastic bulletproof coffee. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated. Plenty of parking behind the restaurant. Terrific wait staff. I completely suggest stopping in and enjoying a meal here. It's a great experience. read more

First time to Picnik and I was really impressed. The place is charming in decor, the staff is friendly and efficient and the food! Let's talk about the food! I met a friend for lunch here and I have to say, I wasn't too jazzed about going, mostly because I thought it was going to be bland health food. Not so! Sure, the food is healthy, but the flavors are amazing. I started with the fried Brussels sprouts. Delicious, crispy sprouts with a light sweetness to them and big chunks of tender pork belly, and plenty of it! The braised duck Chile relleno was a complex flavor punch to the taste buds! Slow braised pulled duck, sweet/tart currants, butternut squash and a cumin yogurt crema over riced cauliflower. Que sabor! I'd definitely have it again! Keepin' Austin weird, for sure. Chose this spot because my little girl, 18 month old baby, is a diabetic. So I knew this would be a perfect and wholesome option for her to enjoy a yummy breakfast. I love this place. The food is excellent and healthy. It is expensive. Despite the prices, I have eaten here many, many times. When I'm trying to get a healthy breakfast or lunch, Picnik makes it easy. Some of my favorites: Drinks: The Golden Milk Matcha is delicious. The butter bones add collagen, black pepper, and turmeric! Breakfast: I really enjoy the tacos. I've had them all, and they are all good. Snack: The chicken tenders (nuggets?) are really good! They use rice flower for the crispy outer and they are delicious. Lunch: The Picnik Cobb, my favorite salad in town. It's one of those salads where you will not be hungry afterwards. It is hardy and will get you through to dinner. If you are on a restrictive diet of any kind, they will accommodate you without acting like put-out jerks. If Taco Bell is your jam, this place is not for you. It does get a little loud when it's packed, but that's fairly normal for any restaurant these days. Recommend! read more

Came here for Sunday lunch with some girlfriends. It was about a 15 minute wait, and I really liked the fact that they had a large seated waiting area which made the wait not as bad. They have a cute coffee area in the front for those that just want to order some grab-and-go coffee and then dining in the back. Very hipster Austin-y ambiance. 2 of my friends ordered the Harvest hash, one order the southwest hash, and I ordered the pulled duck chile relleno. Portions were pretty big, as none of us finished our food and packed it togo. I can't say much about the different hashes, but from the looks of my friends they seemed to really enjoy it. We all shared the brussel sprouts, pretty basic with balsamic glaze you'd find any where else. Pretty disappointed with the pork belly inside. Some were very soft and cooked perfectly, while other bites were overly friend and super hard to bite into. The coffee/drinks were so overpriced! I can't believe anyone would pay THAT much for a tiny cup of coffee. Don't get me wrong, two of my friends ordered a coffee and the other the matcha tea and they tasted great! I can't say enough amazing things about Picnik. Eating out when you have gluten and dairy allergies is never easy. Picnik's menu features all things gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nut free. It's fantastic. Everything on the menu that I've had is phenomenal. The homemade ketchup is delicious, the french toast is amazing & the crispy chicken thighs are a must. The coffee, of course, is out of this world - I highly recommend the Mayan Mocha butter coffee. Of course the best part of Picnik is the staff. Everyone from the hostess stand to the back of the house is so pleasant, friendly and accomodating. I especially love visiting Lauren, one of the managers. I was blown away by Picnik. I had read a ton of great Yelp reviews on the restaurant after looking it up upon seeing some scrumptious looking food photos on instagram, so I made it a priority to visit while in Austin. I told the hostess how excited I was to try the restaurant while visiting and she matched my enthusiasm. I loved her energy and positivity! I was tempted by so many things on the menu, but ended up ordering the crispy brussels sprouts with pork belly as an app followed by the harvest hash bowl. Both were downright amazing. I love their mission to serve food that is (relatively) healthy and caters to people with a variety of dietary restrictions, along with their social initiatives. When I asked a waitress for the wifi password, she said they don't give it out because they want to encourage people into conversation rather than defaulting into looking at our phones. A real standout at this restaurant was the service, particularly my waiter Oliver and the hostess, whose name I didn't catch. Oliver and I quickly bonded over a shared hometown (wohooo NYC), and he made my solo dining experience at Picnik way more fun than it would have been with a more demure waiter. When he found out it was my first time in Texas, he brought out a dessert plate with a blondie ice cream sandwich on the house. Not only was the blondie out of this world, I was blown away by his kindness and friendliness. Even if the food wasn't as good as it was, I would go back just for the awesome service. A few of my trendy friends recommended this spot to me so I had to stop in and try it :) I was NOT disappointed! From the moment we walked in I was blown away by how cute the decor and ambiance was. The young man that was the host was so so so polite and lovely. We were put on a small wait because it was Sunday morning and pretty busy. We got sat after about 15 min! Easy-peasy. We just stopped in for a snack and we knew we had to try the famous Brussels sprouts and bone broth. We both were so excited and overwhelmed by how delicious the sprouts were! Too good that I had to go back the next day. First off, the environment, decor and vibes are next level. I ordered the mocha chocolatte my first visit at the recommendation of my server. He was right in describing it as chocolate-y, velvet perfection. Their butter coffees are too die for. I got two tacos made to order and the quality of the meat is the best! I'll always love Picnik- but coming back after 2 years, I was a little sad to see the differences. Harvest Hash is a meal that I try to find where I live now and nothing compares. So when I went to get it, the recipe changed Apples were sliced big instead of chopped, didn't have any pecans, sweet potatoes were undercooked, red bell peppers were added (my opinion? has no place in the hash), the onions were sliced instead of chopped and almost seemed sweet instead of mixed into a hash. I had never been blown away by the food at the trailer on S Lamar, but my husband had tried this location the day before & raved about it, so we took a large group (14) there for a birthday celebration Sunday evening. They don't take reservations, even for large parties, but they did have the patio out back available (we arrived at 5pm). The food is AMAZING! And everyone's personal dietary preferences were no problem. VERY knowledgable & attentive waitstaff. The brussel sprouts are my favorite & I had the green curry with chicken...someone tried the bone broth with coconut...which sounded awful to me, but I tried it & will order it on another visit AND I'll try the duck dish next time too - another reason to eat healthy! I just want to start off with being appreciative about their service. We arrived pretty late in the evening for dinner, and they were still willing to accommodate us. Thank you! This was almost the "perfect" experience. We sat at a great table in a quiet spot, and the appetizers promised much. The food came out, and I had the avocado toast and the harvest hash -- both of which were delicious. I love how Picnik is huge on supporting local companies and promoting health in their chain. The reason that this review is not 4 stars is because of the fact that our waiter was rude and inappropriate. I had mentioned that it was my girlfriend's birthday and asked him if they could do something for her. His response was, "Well, what would you like me to do to her?" I awkwardly laughed it off, but for the rest of the time we were there, he acted very unprofessionally. At the end of our stay, he did bring out dessert on the house for my girlfriend, but in that place and setting, the comment and awkward words were not justified. The harvest hash is one of my favorite meals in Austin. Absolutely delectable and wish I'd had it sooner upon moving here. I haven't tried anything else because I can't bring myself to skip the hash ever but I bet it's all fantastic. This 5 star rating is for customer service and the butter coffee. :) A few days after I posted my review, I was contacted by Naomi (see the response on my previous post). I assume she's the owner (?) and then I also got a private message from Tom (operations director). Contrary to other nasty responses I get from other businesses that I rated quite poorly, these guys were hands down the nicest and respectful. So much so that they offered to have me try their butter coffee for free to make up for the unfortunate incident on my last order. I told them I would love to try those but unfortunately, I live in Houston. I wasn't expecting them to go out of their way to ship it as I thought that's ridiculous considering how much shipping would cost. But I did express appreciation on them reaching out to me and letting me know of their efforts to correct the situation regarding my unsatisfactory meal. But, Tom said they'd mail it out anyway. I really wasn't banking in on it and thought that they're just saying it... well, just coz... Today, I got a box from FedEx and samplers of their butter coffee! I tried the Matcha and it's absolutely divine. And it's not even chilled yet! I'm glad it's not very sweet like any Starbucks bottled drinks. To Naomi and Tom, you guys keep up the good work. And I certainly will come by and dine in when we get back in Austin again. P.S. NOT once did they ask me to change my rating. My husband and I came to Austin for just a few days to visit the area. I was so excited when I found Picnik on Yelp and got to read about how this is a dedicated gluten free, corn free, peanut free establishment! The building is clean and has a relaxed ambience. Our server was incredibly kind and patient as was the rest of the staff. Now, the food - I ordered the French toast which was absolutely delicious and incredibly filling with a side of the sugar free bacon. My husband ordered two of their breakfast tacos and had no complaints. We both walked out incredibly full and two happy patrons! We also gave the mocha latte a shot - which we ordered without the whey protein. Also delicious! It was definitely heavier than most drinks I've had before, but the cocoa they use was the best part of it. We did have a minor discrepancy with our charges from breakfast, but the waitress graciously acknowledged the mistake and quickly corrected it.
