I've been to Picnic twice now. I like how the restaurant boasts they are good for picky people who have allergies and dislikes. I however, am not one of those people. I just like how delicious and healthy the food is. The atmosphere is airy and open. I had the Harvest Hash twice! read more

My wife and I dined here for lunch, and were totally disappointed and unimpressed. The waitress went on and on about how all the ingredients were fresh and local? Only the skirt steak is identified as coming from a Texas Farm. And then they want to charge you $27 for skirt steak, which is not exactly one of the best cuts, to put it mildly. What about everything else??? The Salmon is noted as being Wild Isles and sustainable. Which means its farm raised and maybe sustainable to produce for the fishery but hardly is farm raised salmon sustainable for the environment. A cursory look at the menu drink list, is filled with beers from Oregon and California. And wine from throughout the world, is poorly curated with no selections from Texas. There are so many breweries in town, why not team up and support them, especially if you are making a big deal of how local and sustainable you are instead of supporting mega breweries such as Stone and Deschutes. Speaking of drinks the margaritas were poorly crafted; the Pitaya was tart, and the Paloma was not at all done right either. I ordered the salmon, which was tasteless, was unevenly cooked with part of the portion raw inside, and to top it off the skin was burned. It was plated on top of some gross looking and tasting green quinoa mess. The wife ordered the patty melt, which was smashed beef on dried out toast, lacking in flavor presentation and was tasteless. Hello, Sunshine! Picnik is one of my favorite places I've tried in Austin! The interior is so cute and has good service. All of the food they serve is super fresh and I love the menu. It is very transparent and I love all of the sayings featured. fish tacos // asdjfalskdjf!! These were the best fish tacos!! The fish was the perfect amount of crispy while the inside was very tender. I was really impressed because while it's crispy, it is also very light and does not taste oily at all. Plus! There's a ton of fish in each taco so I really appreciated the portion size. Additionally, the cole slaw on the inside adds a satisfying crunch to combine with the fish. I'm usually not the biggest fan of cilantro, but it goes really well in the taco and avocado toast // So good! I actually really liked the bread which surprised me because it was the first time I ever tried gluten-free bread. The avocado was super fresh, and the basil pesto added a perfect amount of taste. The poached egg was made just right with the yolk oozing out and the halved cherry tomatoes gave the perfect burst of flavor. Honestly this is such a disappointment and will never go back. The food is good however the service is atrocious. We waited an hour and a half to get our food, no apology, no one checking in nothing. Never asked for refills on our drinks or if we needed anything like literally NO service. Then the manager and 2 other waiters were staring at us when we got our food and didn't say anything! Picnik is a fantastic spot for brunch. There was a bit of a wait for a table for three but it was manageable. The back room is bursting with sunshine with cozy decor and communal tables. The menu offers a variety of options for both vegetarians and carnivores. I typically like the avocado on my Avocado Toast to consist of something more than just mashed avocado but the garnishes on this one (hemp seed, radish, chile flakes, and micro-greens,) provided a nice complexity to the dish. And the gluten-free fermented sourdough was surprisingly delicious. Our server was particularly personable and accommodating. I enjoy eating bread of all sorts but I'm also a big fan of restaurants that are 100% gluten-free. I walked away feeling like all of the menu items were very clean and fresh. read more

We arrived at 2 pm on a Friday and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table for three. Our waitress was super friendly and all the food came out super quickly. This place was delicious and extra amazing since everything was gluten free. We were able to have gluten free treats like fried chicken nuggets, but nothing was so heavy and unhealthy. I ordered the fish dish with cauliflower mash and roasted beets and some other root vegetable. The fish was wild caught halibut. I could tell the fish was extremely fresh and not fishy. The sauce was very tasty but once again not an overpowered flavor. I also tried the cappuccino and you can definitely taste the butter, which was not bad, I was just not used to it. I love visiting Austin because there are so many fun food places to try! I have to say that, despite only being in the area for a few days and there being so many options for food, I have already stopped by here twice. It was that wonderful. What drew me here initially was the wide variety of creative and healthy food options they offer on their menu. Spanning from the drinks to the food, they truly offer tasty options that align with any dietary restrictions or preferences. My first trip here, I ordered the Quinoa Bowl with Sauteed Chicken -- very delicious, and the amount of food was very sizeable (a true Texas-sized portion!). Ultimately, I ended up having to finish it in two sittings, so well worth the price. My second time through, however, was even better! I went with the Blackened Salmon, Turmeric Tonic, and Chocolate Pudding. It is hard to put into words how well the cauliflower grits paired with creamy gravy and the texture of the salmon. Hands down one of the best pieces of salmon I have ever had. The Turmeric Tonic was refreshing and had just the right amount of sweetness. I was also very impressed by the chocolate pudding (especially for a vegan/dairy free treat) -- the coconut whip cream definitely makes the dish. read more

This is a cute place that certainly has that Austin-aesthetic-brunch vibe. The restaurant has a hippie twist to it. Their coffees all have butter in them, which reminded me of a keto type diet. I was intrigued. I ordered an iced vanilla latte, which was an astounding $7 considering the latte itself was not that big. I definitely tasted the butter in the coffee. The latte tasted like your average latte but with melted butter in it. It was good, but I don't think I'd pay $7 for it again. 10 hours later and I still feel like I downed a stick of butter. Keeps you full, at least. For brunch, I ordered the avocado toast and added an egg and bacon. I enjoyed it a lot, but since the entire restaurant is gluten-free, the bread tasted a little different than your normal bread. It was very dense and sourdough-y, but it worked. The avocado on the toast was puree-like, and the egg was perfectly poached. It was definitely a filling meal. I also tried the fried brussel sprouts with pork belly, which was delicious. The flavors were good, the brussel sprouts had a good crunchy texture, and the pork belly was well cooked. Overall, prices were a bit hefty, but I did enjoy the atmosphere and the food! read more

Wow what a place! We're visiting Austin and this is the 3rd breakfast/brunch place we tried with the least wait time so we were excited to finally eat, after a long day of travel. The staff was very nice and friendly, we were seated 15 minutes before the time we were told. We weren't sure what to get so I asked the waiter what he recommended, he recommended the bibimbap for me and I gotta say, OMG!! Amazing dish, I got it with the crispy chicken, never had anything like this before and it really hit the spot, flavor was on point, sweet a little salty and spicy, my husband tried the melt and again, grass fed beef with real potatoes, all fresh ingredients and cooked to order for sure here! The spinach dip was amazing as well, perfect crispy tortillas with the perfect creamy dip, a little hint of lime, if ever in the area this is a must try! The best thing about this place is the service. It was absolutely wonderful! I had a great time with some of my dearest friends. After driving around to many locations to find somewhere to eat, Picnik took us in immediately. Unfortunately, this place was incredibly overpriced. I got a rainbow salad, and ended up paying $25 for a meal that was incredibly underwhelming and did not really align with the amount of food I was given. What a delicious meal! A few friends and I visited for Sunday brunch and enjoyed the whole experience. We each ordered different types of coffee to taste them. We got the cappuccino, vanilla latte, and the Mayan mocha. All of them were delicious, but Mayan mocha was by far the most unique and flavorful. It's a must try! The food was also great, but the portion sizes are mediocre for the price of all of the food. I have been before and ordered the sweet potato hash, which is still my favorite dish there. This time I tried the pesto eggs goat cheese dish. Although I enjoyed it, I would not order it again. The service was pleasant and prompt. Overall, a great experience, but I was left still wanting more food and I don't usually feel that way after meals. I don't foresee coming back by my own choice due to portion size to cost ratio. read more

I can officially say that this place is my new favorite restaurant in Austin! I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want it to blow up and then have wait hours in line but damn! It's so, so good, especially if you have a special diet, like gluten or dairy free, AIP, paleo, keto, etc.! The menu is large and has so many mouth-watering items with all kinds of healthy good stuff like adaptogens, CBD oil, collagen, MCT oil, etc, to add to your drinks and meals. Plus, the wait staff is incredibly friendly and genuinely seem to love working there. They really have something special going on here and they can count me as a new regular patron! Picnik is delicious, as fresh as the prince of Belair himself, and to top it all off, your meal is hosted in the trendiest, most inviting environment. Color me impressed. I will say we had a few minor issues during our service that made our meal last almost 2 hours, but it was quickly solved with a flag down from our server and we left not only full, but happy too. I never thought I'd pay $16+ for a salad, but I'll eat that salad again and again. The cobb is delectably chopped with an array of meats, cheeses, and a green goddess dressing that is to die for. The most impressive thing to note is that they are inclusive to all diets and allergies. They make note of the things that can't be altered, but will work with the chef to accommodate you where they can. They cook the avocado oil'd foods in the same fryer as the almond oil'd foods, so nut allergies beware, you'll probably be skipping the fried food here. But a quick swap of tortilla chips with fresh veggies allowed us to enjoy their amazing guac! Don't come in thinking you're going to get a cheap, fast lunch, but do come in. You'll be invited to try healthy food that tastes incredible. I definitely recommend the brussel sprouts! read more

Creamy, and warm, balanced by crunchy charred asparagus and plentiful pieces of shrimp. I found this place randomly yesterday and thought what an amazing place to not have to worry about any gluten cross contaminated foods. I placed a to go order for chicken strips and a salad. When I got there, the place looked really nicely decorated and had a good atmosphere. I went to pay for my order and was quoted $28. I was flabbergasted. How can a salad and some chicken strips cost more than a BBQ dinner? I didn't say anything and got the food anyway. The food was very good and the flavors were great. However the portions and what I got wasnt justified by the price. I wanted to like this place but the prices are just too outrageous to continue to go there. This used to be our regular hangout pre-covid. Today we went for the brunch menu and it was very disappointing. The avocado toast was half the size it used to be. While they do use a 7 grain gluten free bread it was nowhere near the thick signature toast they used to have. The waiter told us they have a new head chef, and while they used to ship their bread in from San Francisco, now in order to cut cost they're using this new gluten free bread.. but i would consider it standard store bought quality. The avocado spread was not fresh, there were no veggies like sprouts and radish on the toast like it used to so it was fairly bland avocado on toast with a few tomatoes on top. Couldn't even taste the pesto as it said it had on the menu. So for almost half the portion it still cost $11. Then even more than that they charge $1 PER person of Covid Fee. My friend ordered the mushroom toast and it was the same lackluster quality. While the beet hummus was good, there was very little mushroom. A tiny $12 mushroom toast that didn't even come with an egg on top. We added a poached egg to that so for $14 it was barely what I would consider a tiny appetizer portion. We all walked away still hungry. It's not the same place it used to be. read more

Okay so I've been to both locations many times in Austin. I must say my experience today was one of the best I've ever had eating out, period. It wasn't because of the food quality or the atmosphere, which is always on point - it was the customer service that swept me off my feet. Our servers name was Victoria E. & let me tell y'all she is the best of the best. Anyone who has the pleasure of having her as their server should consider themselves lucky. This woman went above and beyond to not only meet our needs but make us HOWL laughing. I came here for a Saturday lunch to catch up with a friend, and we couldn't have picked a better place! The coffee butter: this "coffee butter" sounded so wild to me prior to going to Picnik, and I was waiting for it to be all hype, but it added a different depth to my iced vanilla latte and was such a great choice. As an avid coffee drinker I was impressed with the buttery-ness in the latte as well as the strong coffee taste. I think there were also coffee bits in my latte which I did like as a different texture to my palette. The food: I was kind of bummed at first because of the high prices ($10- $20 meals) but the food definitely matches the prices. I ordered the fish tacos and the Turmeric- crusted cauliflower steak. The fish tacos come in orders of 2 and were really good. Fresh, flavorful and nice. The cauliflower "steak" was something I thought I wouldn't like, but loved so so much! It had ingredients like pistachio and turmeric that I couldn't see in one dish, but it was sooo good. It was great to see vegan options with so much flavor and each part complimented the rest so well. The capers and chili relish added a hint of tanginess to the cauliflower and the cauliflower-chick pea hummus... oh my god. It was so good, almost tasted like a creamy cheese, and was a great sauce for the steak. I would go back again and order this! Picnik is one of a kind in the Austin's food scene. Reasonably priced food for conscious eaters and those with food allergies or dietary preferences either vegan, gluten free, low carb can certainly find a good item on the menu. Their gluten free bread is dangerous though! If you lack self control don't even order it ;). Last time I visited finally tried their vegan queso and it was amazing! I love the tex mex creation but it's usually followed by long periods of over eating regrets, so this is close to perfect and the almond flour chips are amazing. *** I do have a few thing to complain about and it's primarily the lack of boldness in the menu. As much as I love the simplicity on it, there are ways to make something good great. The salads are on the VERY bland side and I probably won't order any of them again. The rainbow chopped salad is one of the least enjoyable meals I've had and I just ate it because I knew it was good for me, but the tahini lemon dressing lacks tahini and lemon! Nevermind salt and some  oil to emulsify the dryness of it and be a better complement to the bitterness of some of the ingredients, additionally the over cooked and underseasoned salmon either grilled or blackened!  These are minor complaints that don't take away many of the great quality items on their menu, but will hopefully improve over time. The whipped goat cheese added a creamy texture and tangy taste when combined with the omelette. The muffin was tasty as well, the apple flavor pulled through and it wasn't overly sweet which I prefer. Portion size can seem somewhat small, but I was sufficiently full afterwards. Came here for a weekend brunch, and it wasn't too crowded. Our large group was seated shortly and the overall service was great. The interior is bright and beautifully decorated in a contemporary, hipster way. There's a a few spots directly in front of Picnik and shared parking lot in the back, but I can imagine it can get dicey during busy times.
