Came here on a Sunday for lunch, it was busy but we were seated right away. One of the party ordered the chicken thigh tacos with cilantro and lime. Sublime flavors, decent spices. Just right, and the portion control is excellent. However, the birria tacos are, in my opinion, to be avoided at all cost. Total grease bombs. Unappetizing appearance. And when I an old one sideways, literally a couple tablespoons of grease poured out from both of them. Even after draining they were largely inedible; extraction of the goods inside presented a very tasty filling, but hard to get past the initial mess. Service was excellent. read more

We come from out of town and we're looking for some good Mexican food. We sat on the patio, it was a beautiful setting. The chips and salsa were okay, nothing special there. The queso blanco was on the house for the wait in seating, it had good flavor but was served luke warm, it should have been served hot. The house margarita was good , standard margarita. My boyfriend had the chicken fajita burrito, the rice was undercooked the beans had good flavor but the burrito lacked flavor and was drenched in a cheese sauce that he didn't care for . The food was alright and the service was great but that's where it stopped. As a person that eats out a lot and gets drinks at every restaurant I go to, I can tell you that hornitos does not cost more than patron. I ordered a pitcher of margaritas with hornitos instead of patron and it actually cost $20 more than what was on the menu. After asking about the price and watching 4 different people go to the register trying to figure out what happened, I then was told an excuse that with what I ordered they have to ring up everything separate instead of how they ring it up with patron. Next time try and be honest with me and tell me you don't know how to fix it. That would have been better to me than lying to me. Please train your evening shift leaders on 5/5/22 better. I personally think that 3 is about right. Apon arrival with 4 in our party we were told that we were going to have a 10 minute wait. We were early for dinner at about 5 to beat the crowds and I personally saw many available tables for 4. So we waited for our table at the bar and had a nice frozen margarita. Once seated we ordered a nachos plate to share...it was fine... nothing special but fine. I ordered the fajita combo with shrimp and beef. One of the people in our party ordered the chimichanga because it had ground beef... it came with beef chunk's and he also asked for sour cream 2 times (when ordering and when the food arrived) and never got it. Our server Kristina was absent often and seemed to be distracted. When desert arrived we still had entree stuff left on the table...we asked for it to be removed and it was. Salsa was bland, but Jesse did bring it different options for us. I ordered the avocado enchiladas, I was not impressed. My disgusted ordered the street tacos carne Asada and she loved them. I had also ordered a Mango margarita and it was a bit tart so I did not drink it, our server noticed and brought the manager over and they removed it from my ticket with out me even asking! I'm kind of sad that I'm reviewing this without having pics because if you would've seen what I ate, you would run not walk to Picoso's! My husband & I shared beef fajitas & my son had Birria tacos. The meat was so tender and very tasty. My son LOVED his tacos and he's picky about those type of tacos! It passed my rice and beans test that I grade Mexican restaurants on (because I'm Mexican). They offered us a dessert from a huge platter of their different kinds they offer so we went with the mini sopapillas. They were small fluffy pillows of heaven. So good!! read more

Picoso's has been on our bucket list for awhile, but we have been slow getting there due to the pandemic. We still try to socially distance and avoid crowded places, but my husband had a few days off work during the holidays, we got bored in the house, and decided to venture to Picoso's for lunch. I wish we hadn't. We were seated immediately upon walking in. We got to our table and it was dirty, with not just a few crumbs, but a couple of large pieces of tortilla chips and a little bit of salsa spilled on the table. Although the mess was in plain sight of the hostess, she didn't mention it or offer to get anyone to clean it. I carry my own disinfecting wipes, so I cleaned this up myself. From what I can tell they do make an effort to leave empty tables between groups of diners in an effort to socially distance. However, that does not matter much when the hostess and the server both wore their masks incorrectly (below the nose) for the entirety of our visit. I wanted to leave as soon as we noticed this, but my husband talked me into staying. Additionally, my husband's menu had food stuck inside of it, so they are obviously not cleaning the menus between customers. We were seated in a booth in direct view of the kitchen and I noticed the majority of people working in the back who crossed my line of sight were either not wearing masks or had them below their chin. This included dishwashers, cooks, and servers who pulled their masks down once they were in the back. While I did notice two male servers who wore their masks correctly the whole time we were there, I was disappointed that the majority of the staff seemed to not know or care about the proper way to wear a mask. The 6th graders I teach seem to have a better understanding of the importance of correctly wearing a mask in the midst of a deadly pandemic. One would think a local business would take this more seriously. Food was ok. If rating on the food alone, I would give 2.5 stars. I ordered enchiladas, which were decent. Salsa is extremely bland. Asked if they had something a bit spicier and they said they had "green salsa" but it turned out to be just blended jalapeños. The "vegetable fajitas" are just the onions and peppers that come with regular fajitas with tomato slices added. No mushrooms or squash or anything else to add flavor or texture. Speaking of texture, the corn tortillas were inedible--extremely stiff and chewy. Really awful. Had to ask for a plate to just mix my stuff in and eat it with a fork. Although 5 stars, $13 per shot of Woodford Reserve is greedy and ridiculous regardless of if profits are reinvested into employee development or not. That's about a 92% margin mark up from the $36.xx/bottle price. And acceptable range is about 85% or so at $6.50-8/shot. They'd push a lot more out the door at more acceptable prices. read more

We absolutely love this place. We had a hard time finding Mexican food in Lubbock at first, which surprised us. Everything tasted like chain food. We have loved everything we have ordered here. The atmosphere is really nice. Love the upscale industrial decor and it is so refreshing to find a restaurant that doesn't play 90's country in this city. I went to Picoso's today for my first time and 3 different employees said "Good to see you again". Apparently my doppelganger is a regular at this restaurant. I had initially avoided this restaurant because I usually prefer eating at 'hole-in-the-wall' restaurants for mexican food but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the level of service. I had the Cozumel which consisted of a taco, enchilada, and chili relleno. Everything was very good. My server was friendly, attentive and proactive. She even brought out some extra spicy salsa verde since I didn't think the regular salsa had enough kick. It was the perfect addition to my meal. The restaurant was clean with a very nice atmosphere. I was very pleased and left fully satiated. My only complaint would be the facial masks that was worn by every server. I appreciate the fact that they were wearing masks but every server used the mask to cover only their mouth, with their nose exposed. Wearing a mask in this manner defeats their very purpose. There is absolutely no reason to wear a mask if it doesn't cover both nose and mouth. This would have been a 5-star review if not for the mask issue. Will I be back? Definitely. I hope that masks are worn properly on my next visit. read more

I've eaten here many times and I've had good and bad experiences, but I've never had an experience this bad. Everyone's food came out cold or wrong or both after nearly 45 minutes waiting on it. Our waiter spilled water and salsa all over the table, but never brought us anything or offered to clean it up. Almost all of the tables had food that needed to be bussed. It made the restaurant look like an absolute mess. This was by far the worst experience I've had at Picoso's, it will definitely be a while before I come back. read more

Trash Service is trash. Nobody wants to sit in a tiny tiny tiny 2 person booth when there's is only 2 other couples in the restaurant. Seated us with no drink menu. Then came back to get our drink order. How does that make sense? Chips are trash. No flavor at all. Their seasoning salt isn't good either. Salsa has no flavor, and it sits out in a pitcher next to the computer. I'm sitting here watching the flies land in it. The house margarita is literally 2 sips, and tastes primarily like sweet and sour. I refused to order food after the way the experience started. My girlfriend ordered and her fried chili looked and smelled repulsive. Basically I would never return unless they started giving things away. We came here late at night when the restaurant was actually about 10 minutes from closing. The host was very kind and told us to come in. The service was good. I got the crispy taco salad with ground beef. The guacamole was outstanding and the fixings in the salad were seasoned wonderfully, I didn't even need dressing. Emily was our server and was attentive and very friendly and the hostesses/host were prompt. The decor was sleek and modern and the restaurant clean. I had the chicken enchiladas with red sauce, spouse had the shrimp tacos. We were both pleased as both tasted great! The salsa had a little kick, I've had better salsa but certainly no reason not to return. Great meal for the price, two filling entrees for $30. This place just opened and we thought we'd give it a try. IT'S OK. We ordered the hatch green chile queso, it was $6 for a small bowl and it was very thick. We ate it just bc we payed $6 for it. I ordered the big house margarita, it was $14. And again, it was ok. I ordered the beef fajitas and my husband ordered the green chile beef enchiladas. I was surprised at the portion size of the fajitas for the price. The beef was dry, and I've definitely had way better fajitas other places in Lubbock. My husband said he liked his enchiladas. We ate about half of our food and asked for to go boxes only to find out they were out of to go boxes but they had paper bags. I'm not sure how enchiladas and charro beans would hold up in a paper bag. Service was mediocre as well. I can't say that we'll be back soon. read more

I have been anxiously awaiting my first visit to Picoso's. I was underwhelmed. The atmosphere was great, the building design is fresh and unique for Lubbock, although I thought the unfinished water feature at the front door was odd. The bar drinks were great, although the server had absolute no idea what was on the drink menu and didn't understand what was in the drinks. Those were the good points. Let me get to the food. The chips were extremely salty. The queso was bland and just "blah". I ordered a chimichanga, which should be a staple at any Mexican food place. It was a joke. Basically a bean and ground beef burrito, with most beans. It wasn't friend very well and it was oddly served with dice potato's that looked like they would be more at home at the Breakfast House on 19th Street than a Mexican food place. My chimichanga left me so disappointed I was wishing we had gone to Taco Bell, Taco Villa, or just stayed home and had a sandwich. I had very high hopes for Picoso's and it fell so far below expectations, I won't be back anytime soon. I hope they either get their act together OR hope something really cool moves into this location when it fails. Giving it two stars because the building is awesome and drinks were good. I took my young granddaughter on a date here. She is learning how to order and the many unspoken rules of eating out. The wait staff were VERY kind and treated her with the same respect they would an adult. It made her feel very grown up and important. My granddaughter asked for a dessert menu and asked questions about pricing and portions. Our wonderful waitress (Erin) answered every question and helped her make a decision.
