I came from ROCKWALL all the way to Carrollton and enjoy the live band that they had on a Thursday night. Seems like a very family-friendly place with kids frolicking out on the patio. I expected a lot more from a place with 4 stars located in the middle of an affluent neighborhood. Things started off on the wrong foot with the DIRTY plates on the table. We didn't need them, but it wasn't a good first impression. The tablecloth had crumbs on it as well. Then it took forever for us to get our pancakes and inside-out "french toast," not two items than require a lot of time to cook. This place is in the middle of the Castle Hills neighborhood, and unless you live there, you're very unlikely to ever just stumble upon this place. It's hipster destination dining. Guys, we're driving from Denton to come here regularly. It's that great. We've tried many different things, and haven't found a miss among them. Service has always been friendly and spot on. Prices are great for the quality. Patio is pooch friendly, and it warmed my heart to see a server taking water out for a thirsty hound looking longingly in through the door. Standouts have been: Bloody Mary (yes, really) Asparagus & Cauliflower Fritto Misto Pizza (obviously) any variety, it's all fantastic C&W Sausage...on pizza, in pasta, just have it. Cheesecake is lighter than we normally see in heavy NY style cheesecake territory. And was that the tiniest hint of pepper I tasted in the tart sauce used appropriately sparingly? I loved it. And my personal favorite standout: Chicken & Wild Mushrooms...this looks so subdued on the menu, but it is a work of brilliance. It comes with a poached egg on top. I have been here twice and enjoyed it both times. Once for a mid-week lunch and once for a girls night out. This is a cool place to hang out and they stay open kind of late. The service was good both times and the food was great. I like to get the salad and sandwich combo. I have had the Cuban pork sandwich and the short rib with cheese sandwich. The Cuban pork is milder in taste and more of a classic sandwich. The short braised rib was good but different, like steak and potatoes with cheese, so half a sandwich was enough. The Apple Pecan salad was sweet which for me was a good balance with my sandwich. The Peach salad was a little spicy and was a little too out-the-box flavor for me. I never thought I'd have a reason to be so far into the Castle Hills neighborhood , but March 14th was definitely the perfect day to be here! My friend and I waited a few minutes for assistance, and the front desk was pushed to the side of the entrance ...looking further back , we could see a gathering of people and balloons so I just assumed the private party must have preoccupied all of the workers. Finally a table was cleared for us, and a cute guy named Mike was our waiter. He told us of his previous restaurant employer and the previous restaurant their Manager was employed ; ironically I had just eaten at the restaurant he mentioned a few days earlier. Anyway , I had no problems with the menu items and I was intrigued to have a cocktail or two; of course I viewed the pictures on Yelp prior to arrival . Unfortunately my friend was being overtly picky, so after eating a portion of my appetizers we left , but I will be back with someone more open minded. Mike advised most of the ingredients are made in-house. Definitely loved this place for brunch! The menu doesn't offer many vegetarian options but they do say that you can customize most of the items to be vegetarian if need be. The signage was pretty poor; we drove right past it the first time. As far as the food, IT WAS YUM! I ordered the Fonzi with tomato soup and it all tasted very fresh. Our waitress was extremely friendly. I also tried their version of a Moscow Mule (Pie mule) and I could have easily drank 3 of them; it was so delicious! Got together for a girls brunch here on Sunday to celebrate some birthdays. For starters, mimosas in 4 flavors that have $1 refills. Such a deal if you are going to chill awhile. We shared the Bombolini (donut balls with marscarpone and fresh berries. Each of us ordered a different entree from the brunch menu. I had the Chicken and Waffles, all well prepared and I especially liked the special sauce on the chicken. My companions ordered the Biscuits and Brisket, the Cast Iron Pancake and a standard breakfast. We agreed the Cast Iron Pancake was the winner, a piping hot pancake in a cast iron skillet with blackberries and ricotta. The atmosphere was very fun and casual with an outdoor patio and firepit. I am celebrating national Pizza month and this was definitely a worthwhile addition to my list of pizza places. It has a great patio, nice laid back atmosphere, very friendly staff and the food and drinks were very good. We had the crab, kale and artichoke dip, which was really good. It was not too crabby and had lots of artichokes. We also had the mushroom pizza, which was various cheeses, truffle oil and mushrooms. I had it without the mushrooms and it is now in my top 5 favorite pizzas. The bottomless mimosas for $10 were great, they do sneak up on you so be careful on the refills. read more

Incredible service and all around good vibes from this place. The pizza has that nice crispy bottom, but is also chewy, which happens to be the texture I'm looking for in solid crust. I'd recommend the carnevino: meaty, sauced right, and brought hot to the table. The shrooms was a little truffle oil heavy, but good nonetheless. One of my favorite date places. Everything here is good! The atmosphere is super chill and funky in a trendy way, the drinks are top notch and the food is phenomenal....they even grow fresh herbs right on the patio. TOO LEGIT. My fav is the The PIE (pepperoni topped with truffle oil and fresh basil)....literally THE perfect pepperoni pizza. Tons of flavor and the truffle oil just puts it over the top with a nice earthiness that leaves you wanting more. The short rib pappardelle is another favorite of mine. The short rib is tender and melts in your mouth and the pasta is made in-house and you can definitely tell! I have tried other things here and there and they were all delicious, but I'm so obsessed with The Pie and the short rib pappardelle that it's hard for me to stray from the tried and true. I'm addicted. Seriously! Pies: I've had them all but love the shroom and pie. Crust is perfect. Love the Cuban sandwich!!! I do always ask for extra pickles though. We live in Castle Hills and have eaten at Pie 314 several times and are always disappointed by both the menu and the service. The menu is limited and stagnant. The servers, while friendly, are excessively loud and self-professed experts on every topic overheard at the table. Been here many times and have not had one single bad meal or dish, or experience. They know how to "do food" the right way. Let's just take a moment to appreciate the "super on point" pizza crust - amazingly doughy and chewy and flavorful. In my opinion when you bite down on pizza dough it should have some resistance from the high flour strength index and protein content, not pillowy and soft. Let's take another moment to talk about the ingredients on the pizza, very solid and good quality. Fresh, not mass produced. Try every pizza seriously, I have not had one that did not blow me away. I have had other things on the menu as well, from goat cheese fondue, salad, pasta, to pretzels. Service was always good, everyone was knowledgeable about their food and alcohol and seemed passionate about the restaurant and their work. My #1 pizza place so far! read more

The folks in Castle Hills are so lucky to have this new little gem in their neighborhood. My visit was with a large group for a birthday on the gorgeous patio. Great space, really cute - perfect for drinking pitchers of sangria with some fabulous folks. The service was good (which a lot of places struggle with on a patio for a large group) and the food was delicious. My personal favorites were the chop salad, the apple pecan salad and the east Dallas pie. Yum! My server told me that they are soon going to be branching out with some new items on the menu - pasta dishes, lasagna, etc so keep a look out for the new menu. read more

It's doesn't matter how much you beg them NOT to MASSIVELY OVERCOOK the salmon and how many chances you give them not to overcook it when asked to only cook it to medium repeatedly.. they couldn't care less and have no clue how to cook fish except to massively overcook it til it's SUPER DRY AND HARD! The quality of the salmon continues to deteriorate as well, although the fact it's cooked to death really really makes the mediocre quality stand out even more, of course. I only kept buying it based on the very reasonable price and so I gave them way more chances than I normally would have despite the salmon always being mediocre at best and I thought they might finally try not to overcook it finally, but that's never gonna happen i realize at this point. I will never be ordering again. They simply don't have a clue how to properly cook salmon and don't care enough, after repeated requests to only cook to medium and to PLEASE DO NOT OVERCOOK IT THIS TIME so it's moist and flaky not super dry hard blah. I politely ask every singke time, mentioning that every time they always massively overcook the salmon. They just don't care or have zero cooking skills cause consistently massively overcooking the salmon Despite requesting that they not do that every time I order means they are clueless. It's not that difficult! Im not professionally trained and I accomplish it so soneone who does it for a living should have no problem accommodating a simple request to cook it to medium. There has never been a time where it appeared that they even ATTEMPTED to cook it correctly and honor my request and cook it any less than well done, dry, hard. Never even bothered to try to learn how not to massively overcook it, always the same well done and dry, never moist. I normally wouldn't have even bothered to give them so many chances but the price was good so I was willing to overlook some things that I normally wouldn't overlook from a higher end restaurant. But, while i may be willing to overlook quality (fresh over frozen.. it's definitely not fresh it's for sure frozen) to occasionally order delivery from them since I'm stuck in a hotel and can't cook myself, for a break in price, I will not overlook the salmon being massively overcooked to death, super super dry and hard. That just ruins it completely and that's something that will clearly never change, and it's just gross overall, and not enjoyable on ANY LEVEL! I gave them about 4 or 5 chances to finally get it right and they just couldn't care less. What the customer thinks about the food and any requests not to massively overcook it this time, every time holds zero importance to these people and it's always the exact same total fail and total disregard, incompetence, laziness.. at this point, it's clearly all those things wrapped into one, and that's a recipe for disaster, for zero growth, zero progression zero evolution and just a world of nothing but mediocrity and no desire to do better, be better. Things can only go down from there. The bar needs to be set higher than it is, cause it's obviously set too low, and they have the tools to do better but the kitchen just can't be bothered. That will never be a concern for them, despite the fact that they could build a much stronger repeat clientele and attract a whole new world of clientele as well, if they were to choose to make this a priority. Fish is one of those things that needs to be cooked correctly cause it can go from moist, tender, tasty, flaky awesomeness to dried out, hard, dry dry dry grossness. The closer a kitchen can come to cooking it as close to medium as possible, the better! Massively overcooking the fish is disrespectful to both the fish who gave its life and to the customer. When you cook meat or fish, you should respect the animal or sea creature by treating it with care, respect, and creating a beautiful meal out of them, not cook it to death so that the person eating it doesn't even enjoy it. It's disrespectful to both. There is no seasoning on it even this time and the quality of the a salmon tastes worse everytime. I do NOT recommend! Everything was super oily this time as well.. the risotto isn't too bad usually but it was very oily and tasted like it's been sitting around for hours. The risotto, tho not amazing, was decent for the price so that was another reason I would order it but it's not even any good either this time! The veggies are also massively overcooked as well. So those two things didn't even soften the blow this time. The broccolini was total mush, tasted awful. read more

This is based on my one time visit. They were open on Fourth of July so me and my dad took our dog to dine for dinner at their dog friendly patio. The hostess was nice and prompt in seating us. We ordered Margherita pizza, Margarita on the rock, and hot beef with watermelon feta salad. The pizza came out thin but not as thin to my liking and the marinara sauce was way too zesty that it was overpowering the cheese. The pizza dough and crust was kinda hard and tough. It tasted like an average to below average pizza to me. The hot beef came out with beef a jus to dip with but the bread of the sandwich was too thick compared to the filling that it did not look worth the price at all. The watermelon feta salad that we chose with it was very good though. I normally don't like margarita on the rock but theirs was very tasty. It had the perfect amount of sweet and sour but it was way too expensive as it was over $10 for a small glass. The service was kinda slow but we understood since we were seated on the patio where it is inconvenient for the waiter to check up on us. Overall I was surprised that their food didn't meet to my expectation because of their raging reviews. I am staring to think that we should've maybe ordered something different or visit them during their popular brunch hours to have seen their full potential. A friend and I shared the Bianca pizza, it was good except that the sausage that they use is pretty spicy so just beware. The drinks were really good, I had the Sangria which came out beautiful every time and wasn't overly sweet. The only negative was they forgot my friends beers a couple of times but other than that service was good and friendly! The people here are very friendly and accommodating. We come here for brunch mainly, I didn't think the regular menu pizza's were anything to write home about. The mimosas during brunch though are strong, and bottomless. They have gone back to their old brunch menu. I'm a man of my word so I'm updating my review. It makes me wonder what was different that day. As long as they keep the current then I recommend the green eggs and ham or the chicken and waffles. *edit* They recently changed the brunch menu getting rid of some of the best items (like the green eggs and ham), and replacing it with pretty standard breakfast goods. I wasn't very impressed with the replacements. If they were to bring back the things that make it a little more interesting my review would probably be higher. Also a side note that isn't really a knock on the establishment, but the area itself. There are kids everywhere driving golf carts and going to places like this on their own. It's not appealing, and I wish parents wouldn't let their children drive golf carts on the road. It's very unsafe. Again nothing to do with Pie314 and not apart of this review. This past Sunday for Mother's Day, was our 3rd time coming here. (No I did not review them previously) We decided to share our dishes, fried calamari, short-rib pappardelle, chicken parm, and spaghetti and meatball for the little man. In the past I would have given them a 5 star review, great service, atmosphere and food. This time around, service and food was lacking. Our pappardelle and chicken parm came out first...we called our waiter to ask about our calamari and child's dinner. He apologized and said he would get this out. Now, my son as really hungry and had already inhaled two fruit pouches and animal crackers. Then about 5/10 minutes later, the calamari came out, but almost burnt. I had a bite but couldn't stomach the rest. My husband (we'll call him a campsite raccoon), inhaled most of it and the other dishes. At this point I was eating angrily and couldn't eat much. When we asked for the check, the manager came out and apologized and said he would take care of a couple of things and they are working through some things. Well, he did, the spaghetti and meatballs (that never came) and calamari that I ate one bite of. The good: Pappadelle was the highlight A nice little spot for children to pay with Astroturf and toys. And they can color on the tables. Would I have preferred to spend my dinner somewhere else? Yes, I left the place really annoyed! Have I had great experiences in the past?
