This one is going to need a breakdown because while I couldn't give it 5 stars wanted to say that the preparation of the daily special "The ElK " was 5 stars. This is one of those places that has a great ambience and depending on I guess the luck of the day service and food quality can change quick. Must be a little bit of European Eve as many foreigners like us were dining. We showed up at 9:30 for dinner on the terrace. Hostess according to our waitress dropped the ball when she didn't bring us any silverware. As our waitress hadn't noticed and we needed some when appetizers arrived; we located a setup station and self served. Atmosphere 5/5 Appetizers: 3/5 Calamari & Balsamic Chips arrived The appetizers were tasty but it was average not the expectation of the price tag and quality expectations of a place like this. Entrées ordered were 3/5 Scampi Florentine 3/5 stars And Special Elk steaks, Sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes with the fried leaks as I requested The seasoning & preparation of the elk was so good the chef tonight deserved 5 stars for that item. The mashed potatoes are very average; as is the sautéed spinach. Not exceptional sides etc. as some have eluded to. Desert time we ordered ; baked freshly as indicated by our waitress Apple cobbler 3/5 stars Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding a bit dry 2/5 stars Service Waitress 2/5 Service suffered the most; if I'm not keeping our water glasses full two forgetting to bring the silverware or checking on us after each course arrived. I have been enjoying the uniqueness of this restaurant since i moved to the central gulf coast. Great views, water ambiance, from scratch kitchen and diverse menu all make it a "must dine" experience. I recently attended the Wine dinner - with an Oregon based winery...( ive been to one other wine pairing and a Four Roses bourbon pairing dinner - both excellent ) ... this one not so much unfortunately. My group thought both the wines and paired foods were not nearly as incredible as in past pairings...We were actually disappointed. The Pad Thai was delicious, dessert tasty...the salad was lackluster and wines...none we would buy to take home. We love Greg ( Executive chef and class act ) and his team so will be back but for the price most likely in the dining area ...not in a pairing for awhile. ( Great happy hours menu's by the way ) ...and just so you know... You would be missing out if you don't check out their creative - something for everyone menu and excellent cocktails inside or outside overlooking the river. read more

Went here a couple times for brunch and it's been hit and miss for me. The first time we went we got the beignets and sangria to start. Nice hot beignets that were light and fully cooked through. White sangria was delicious and for $6 a glass a pretty decent deal. For the main I got the Rueben which was tasty, tender, and overall decent meal all together. The second time we went back I was looking to get something a little healthier so opted for the grilled chicken on the Caesar. I think the Caesar was sitting for a minute while my wife's food was getting made since the lettuce wasn't all that cold even where the chicken wasn't sitting on top of. The croutons were flavored with old bay and the chicken was seasoned with something I didn't care for. Views overall pretty nice from the patio. Overall 3/5 would recommend to a friend for a hot dish and drinks. read more

The food was good I ended up going back the next day for the same thing. The server was great too. My daughter tried to help with my order and accidentally placed an extra one while I'm away, but the server took it back with no issues. Came in for Happy Hour to try some small plates, they were not doing Happy Hour due to Mother's Day - understandable. Appetizer/soup - Lobster bisque 2.5/5. Very underseasoned. One good size piece of lobster. Not alot for $12 and definitely needing a recipe improvement unless everyone likes blandness. Dinner - Pork Osso Bucco 3/5. Per the menu "pork, demi-glaze, mashed potatoes, and asparagus $30. Asparagus a bit under cooked and only 3 pieces. Mashed potatoes good. Osso bucco, a slightly different presentation than I am used to but very good. Moist amd tender. The "demi'glaze" was tasty but not nearly a rich sauce as is a standard demi. It was good but also not enough for the amount of meat. Edited after posting mid meal. I took a bite of the pork near the end and ate significantly charred meat. It was basically charcoal. Not sure how it was even possible. Had to edit and lower the review from 3 to 2 stars. If I came back again, it would be for the happy hour. Definitely not worth a second dinner visit. Service at the bar - outstanding 5/5. The bartenders are constantly mixing the bar menu drinks in large quantity for tables. They were still attentive to bartop patrons. read more

Decided to forego having bill divided by orders asked for a 1/2 split. Then told we could not get club points but for 1 check. That is her just not taking time. What an amazing evening!! First, we got a table right beside the water and even saw two dolphins! Our food was delicious and cooked perfectly. My husband tried the Buffalo, and I had the stuffed salmon, both were SO good!! We finished it off sharing the peanut butter pie. We wanted to have brunch with a water view, (4 Jan 26) and could not have been happier with our stop at Pier 22. Great eggs, good bacon, the croissant was wonderful to sop up egg yolk, warmed and browned lightly. The malted waffles, with strawberries and cream that my wife had was also delicious. Coffee was good cup, refilled often as needed, and the waitress reminded me of a stern teacher I had as a child but was professional, kind and attentive as needed. Went for a girls night out last night and to our surprise , the restaurant was slammed ... we had reservations so we were good. We were seated immediately on the patio, which is exactly where we requested. We had Jaime as our waitress and she was absolutely amazing ! The only thing this place has going for it is the location. Food was bland. Drinks were also awful. We ordered a mojito to start and it tasted like pure soda. Figured maybe it was just that drink so I ordered an espresso martini afterward and that also tasted almost sour. Who do they have working as bartenders here?? Then came the food. The steak wasn't cooked correctly, the mashed potatoes tasted like no butter or salt was ever used. I ordered sticky rice and they came out with just plain white rice on a plate. If it wasn't for the location this place wouldn't be able to stay in business. read more

Love this place but don't like seeing TRASH blow into the water every time I visit. Put up a guard on the bottom to prevent trash from blowing in or at a minimum pick up the trash. I see busboys/waiters walk by it. Very upsetting to see. read more

So Pier 22 has a breathtaking ambience. It was my companion's first time there, and he was duly impressed. We ordered drinks, but unfortunately, my margarita tasted like it was made with a cheap mixer. In addition, it hardly had any salt on the rim. My boyfriend had the shrimp florentine which had just the right amount of garlic and I had the shrimp tempura. It came with rice and vegetables and a delicious sauce. Although it was not super busy, the food came out a little slow. All in all the food is amazing, however, maybe Pier 22 can consider upgrading their margarita mix or better yet use fresh lime juice. read more

Friends invited us to dinner and they chose Pier 22. It had been 3 years since we last dined there. The interior had not changed. It is still very nice. Our server was very pleasant and attentive at first. However, a couple larger of parties arrived and we were virtually ignored. I ordered the Thai Beef and a cup of New England Clam Chowder. Traveling to Florida, my wife and I wanted to take her parents out to celebrate their anniversary. After seeing many nice reviews for Pier 22, I made a reservation, and we dined there on a Thursday evening. The restaurant is located in a beautiful setting, right on a marina overlooking the Manatee River. We asked for a table by the window which was very nice. (The outside seating looks great, but this night was cool and windy). Our food was excellent! The cocktails were well made, the appetizers and entrees were delicious. I ordered the Blackened Cod Alfredo which I loved. Others ordered The steak entrees which looked very good. Everything tasted fresh and was prepared as we asked for. Service was good. The one item that was a little disconcerting is that the manager constantly walked between tables with an iPad updating status of the tables. I would suggest this be done more discreetly so diners don't feel rushed. I'll give Pier 22 a thumbs up! If you're looking for a nice dining experience in Bradenton, give it a try! read more

Beautiful location - nice drive to the end of the pier through interesting architecture. As parking is often at something of a premium, it's great to have valet service. Warm welcome at hostess desk, and we were seated at our outdoor table right away. Yes, it was hot (this is Florida!), but as the sun descended, so did the temps. Our server was very efficient - and our meals were delicious. When our usual (favorite) wine was unavailable, the wine steward made a couple of spot-on suggestions, and we took a photo of the bottle for future reference. Pier 22 is now one of our top 3 Sarasota-area restaurants! read more

Pier 22 is a large well-operated restaurant, with a large menu focused on seafood, but with something to offer for all tastes. The view of the wide Manatee River is delightful during daylight hours. The Pier 22 Salad was great and the Grouper Oscar with crab meat over corn risotto and topped with asparagus speers was exceptional. Prices, including for wine, are very fair for a high-end restaurant. Service was prompt and professional. I'll definitely return when visiting again! read more

Randomly Detoured to Pier 22 on Our Way to Detweiler's and were Incredibly Surprised on Beautiful Atmosphere Pier 22 has. The Outdoor Bar is Breezy with both Bar, Indoor and Patio Seating. They Offer Brunch on Sundays, HH, Lunch and Dinner. We tried their HH Baked Jerk Wings and Clam Chowder- Both were Delicious. Chris and Trish were Our Bartenders- Extremely Nice and Informative and did not Mind all the Questions I asked. Definitely a New Hot Spot for Me :) read more

I had a very poor experience at Pier 22. We waited over an hour to order and felt very unattended. Others around us were in and out, so there were no issues with pace. Our server was no where to be seen, and our edamame was served cold. When we asked to have the plate reheated, the server questioned us and seemed frustrated. We then ordered 4 plates of sushi that took another hour to arrive. It then took another 30 minutes for the soy sauce to be delivered, and it was delivered practically empty! We then were able to get ahold of another server and got our sauce refilled. It was a three hour dinner I'll never get back. read more

My husband and I went to happy hour at Pier 22 on Sunday after the Pirates game. The location is beautiful, right on the water, and since it wasn't too busy, we were seated immediately without a reservation. I ordered the "award-winning" sangria advertised on their menu--unfortunately, it was just okay and didn't hold a candle to Columbia's sangria. My husband had a mojito, which he enjoyed. We ordered a few appetizers, and while they were fine, they weren't anything special. Despite this, I would have considered returning--until our experience with the service took a turn for the worse. Our waitress was friendly, but overly so with other guests, to the point where she became distracted. After requesting our check, we waited over five minutes while she carried on an extended conversation with the table next to us about happy hours around town. When she finally brought our bill, it was incorrect. She fixed it, but when my husband handed her his credit card, she returned with the right bill--but the wrong card. At this point, I had to walk around the restaurant, asking other patrons if they had our credit card. Eventually, we found another table had ours, and we had theirs. The lack of management intervention was inexcusable. No one approached us, acknowledged the situation, or reassured us. When the waitress finally returned, she said the manager would reverse the incorrect charge, which they did--but they couldn't provide a receipt for the reversal. Apparently, the manager didn't know how to do it. So, at this moment, we've paid for our meal and someone else's, and I can only hope the refund actually goes through. The combination of average food, poor service, and nonexistent leadership makes it unlikely we'll return. read more
