This place serves Raw chicken not undercooked but raw, pink and bloody chicken. It has been about 6 weeks that we ate at Pier 41 - I feel it is my duty to let people know what they could be served when dinning here. My 7 year old was served raw chicken tenders, he ate the smaller bite size pieces and asked my husband to cut up the rest of the tenders for him- that is when we noticed the chicken was raw , we couldn't even cut through it . If you are eating here PLEASE CHECK YOUR FOOD!! Especially if kids are eating here. On top of the raw chicken- my husband kept getting dripped on by the vent on the ceiling that was leaking AND my husband ordered off of the board on the wall and was brought a completely different dish and when he told the waitress that it wasn't what he ordered her response was "oh we don't have that today, I figured I'd bring you something else" WTF???? Seriously??? How about you notify the customer that it is not available and let the customer pick what they want to eat,Instead of taking like 35 minutes to bring something they didn't even order! read more

I've been here half a dozen times since it opened and have to say - I have a new favorite GO TO place in Mt. Pleasant. The last time I had the opportunity to visit was Valentine's Day with my lovely wife for an easy dine and dash before we needed to tend to children. As always - we were welcomed by the superstar barman/waiter/get it done guy, Eric. The bar fills fast after they open at 4:00 so I was glad to be able to grab two stools around 6:00. The assembled crowd was a little mix of locals and visitors alike, from what I could tell, but the bar scene here makes you simply feel welcome and everyone talks and shares stories while you enjoy happy hour drinks. The small plates are out of this world. We had half a pound of peel & eat shrimp, flash fried flounder tacos, tuna poke and for the finale - half dozen baked oysters, which were to DIE for. I'm thinking about them now as I type this and want to stop on my way home. Be warned, it's small so if you're looking for a place to NOT rub elbows with strangers, this may not be for you. The booths / tables are fine but this place rocks at the bar, where it always feels like Cheers - even if it's your first time there. Bottom line - the place is so "on point" that I'd put it up against any of the much more "famous" raw bars in Charleston and watch it win. Job well done to Pier 41. read more

We went to happy hour for 1$ oysters and we were very disappointed. Was not busy at 5o'clock and as easy to get a seat but the food was a no go... We're in mt. We just missed happy hour - $1/James River Virginia oyster - so we had 6. Delicious along with the dipping sauces. Nice beer selection too. Po' Boy special with shrimp was fresh & tasty. The lobster Mac & Cheese could've been shared.Outstanding! Holding the last star when I go back for another time but no doubt it will be 5. And the Staff was very nice. Yum! This was our first time at pier 41 and I can't wait to go back! I frequently eat steamed oysters and was finally ready to give raw a try so we headed to pier 41 since it was just down the street. Our server was James and he was super sweet and informative. He told us it was only his first or second week there and I was impressed- he told us about each kind of oyster in detail so we could pick for ourselves. If I could give a lower star rating I would. This was the most terrible service me and a group of my friends have ever had. We are on vacation and just wanted to go out to some place nice and eat, but honestly it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had personally. I didn't get a refill the whole time I was there and the food wasn't great. The woman on the bar/owner/manager was super rude the whole short while we were actually there. I will never be back. To top off the great experience, she mentioned to us how the tips weren't included on the check and seeing that we tipped very low (which I never do because I'm a waitress myself, but she was SO RUDE) she yelled at us as we were walking away and said, "don't come back!" As if we were ever going to. Again WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! Very upsetting. Adding to my awful experience, the owner herself has commented on many of the bad reviews she has and made herself look even worse for telling HER PAYING CUSTOMERS that she is glad they won't be back. lol this place will not last long with a terrible management team like that. Also, working in a restaurant, I do know that sometimes you get busy but our table of 6 did not get checked on but twice the whole time we were there and it was by the food runner and she was the nicest one. I recently had a date night with my girlfriend, and we decided to go to Pier 41, since it is close to my home. My girlfriend walked in while I parked, and the bartender just pointed to a table from behind the bar instead of greeting her. Our waitress, Brandy, was friendly and informative. We ordered and our appetizers seemed to take a while, but it wasn't a big deal because we were enjoying each other's company. We ordered our meals and my girlfriend's crab legs came out in about 10 minutes. She waited a bit for my meal, Fish and Chips, but I told her to go ahead and not wait. It's a good thing I did because it took more than 35 minutes for my meal to follow! Our waitress was very apologetic, and after the third apology she asked if I wanted to speak to the manager, and I said I did. In the meantime my girlfriend had long finished her meal, and my meal showed up before Renee came to the table. She apologized, but seemed to have a defensive demeanor. She then pulled out a menu and said in a very negative tone, "it says right here that meals are cooked to order and we don't guarantee when they will come out," as she flashed the menu at me! Now, let me say, I worked at my father's five star restaurant in New Year, and I understand the pressures of working in a kitchen. But I also understand how service works, and how to present each course to "all" the diners at a table. I realize this is not a five star restaurant; however, there is certain etiquette that all decent restaurants should follow, and that is unquestionably not something that Pier 41 understands. After Renee flashed the menu at me, she said in a dismissive tone, "well, what do YOU want ME to do for you?" I was really stunned by this and just looked up at her. She then turned around with a disgusted look and walked away without saying anything! I was genuinely astonished because I had never experienced anything like that before; honestly astonished! Having experience working in fine restaurants, I do know that you should make every effort to please your customer. I never look for anything being comped, and in fact, I will not accept it in almost any circumstance because I know what the servers and kitchen staff have to deal with. And by the way, no concession at all was offered for our inconvenience, it was noticeably avoided! However, when the bill came, they did take my Fish and Chips off of the check. Of course this whole crazy episode really put a damper on our date night, which is unfortunate when you are spending a hundred plus dollars to enjoy a nice meal. As the events unfolded, I came to find out that Renee is apparently the co-owner of Pier 41. Again, this amazed me even more because it shows an absolute lack of pride in your business and the customers that it serves. Upon reading some of the other reviews on Yelp pertaining to Pier 41, it seems there is a common theme with the poor service and attitude in this restaurant; they have certainly lost my business. There are a lot of excellent restaurants in Charleston, and there is no way that I will give my money to an owner who represents themselves and their business in this manner! read more

We ate at the counter and enjoyed the company of a couple who recently moved to the area as well as the owner Brandon who shucked our Bulls Bay oysters and spoke with us about his journey to where he is today. My wife and I just enjoyed our very first visit to Pier 41 for dinner. This was our impression; it is a very quaint environment, not very large, seating maybe 10 to 12 tables plus the bar area. The dress code is however you wish to come, very casual is totally acceptable. As with most restaurants that have bars, they have some wall mounted flat screen TVs playing college basketball. I will note that unlike many bars, the place was not ridiculously loud. It did not distract from our dinner. Our server was Larry, a very nice young man that was great to work with. Larry was both friendly and efficient. My wife and I both had the fried seafood platter, and we were more than pleased. The food came hot to the table, something that is often overlooked by restaurants, a real pleasure when it happens, as it did at Pier 41. The food was phenomenal! Perhaps the best seafood that I've ever had, and rest assured, I have had more than my share of seafood through the years.The batter was not too heavy, the food was fresh and good tasting, and the portions were more than adequate. We thoroughly enjoyed our supper. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone give Pier 41 a try. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. My wife and I are look forward to our next visit, to try some of the other offerings from the menu. Larry did point out that they run an evening special with oysters being one dollar apiece. You can bet I'm going to try to get myself in there to enjoy those wonderful oysters. Again, very highly rated experience! We were very satisfied. PS- Cleanliness in a restaurant it's very important to me. The restrooms were very clean and well-kept. That is always a good indicator of the cleanliness of the kitchen in my experience. I just wanted to put that out there as a heads up towards whoever is taking care of the cleaning. Well done. I find it reassuring when I find the restrooms clean at a restaurant. That is a good indicator of how they are taking care of your kitchen area. Again, I cannot recommend this place high enough! We visited Pier 41 with my friend's bachelorette after seeing great reviews about the happy hour specials. We got there early- some reviews stated there was a line for the $1 Prosecco $1 oysters. We were luckily the only ones there. The bartender was extremely rude. Made multiple comments about how she hated service happy hour specials and that she wanted to sell more than just happy hour. Sat at the bar on her phone the whole time. Oysters weren't great- even after we spent more money on the non happy hour ones. We decided to leave and head to another spot early. read more

Oh My WOW! I had no idea this place was Asian/fusion flavored! Many places that call themselves fusion are most definitely not. This place is a superstar of innovative flavors. I am embarrassed to say my husband and I, in one night, ate almost everything on this menu. Let me tell you our experience. This is small location, but very nicely done. There is a large bar area surrounded by limited seating. The menu is, in my opinion, done in Tapas style, with smaller dishes. We came during the 4-6pm happy hour, where Champagne and oysters are $1/each. I ended up eating 2 dozen oysters. Fresh and briney and clean. We also had steamed clams that were large, clean and steamed well. We ate the Shrimp Ceviche, which is basically pickled shrimp with cabbage, avocado and onion. Probably my least favorite thing we ate, but it was alright (nothing special). We had a taco (fish) that was delicious with Korean mustard remoulade. There was a valentines special that mixed beef tataki and tuna poke. I would say the tuna was better than the beef here, as some of my beef pieces had silver skin, which is completely unedible. :( The Mussels with the red curry, boiled peanuts and thai basil is simply inspired. The idea of mixing the curry with the southern flair of boiled peanuts. . .who thinks of these things? House fries, clearly hand cut and served in an Asian style to go box are delicious. They come with a smoked oyster aoli that made me wonder to myself why in the world did I not think up this delicious accoutrement myself? The burger with NC grass fed beef, Korean mustard and Sriracha ketchup was very tasty, however my husband wanted it medium rare and it came out very much well done. . .so if you want it more pink, ask for "rare" and maybe it'll come out better. Finally, I had a 1/4 pound King crab leg. Now, I will tell you that I ate this, but it was oversalted and definitely nothing special and NOT worth the $18 you will pay for it. I dont have anything particularly negative or positive to say about Pier 41. We were greeted pretty promptly and were seated right away. Our server maiya was great. The menu isnt too big so it only took us a matter of minutes to decide what we wanted, though I will say it was a left me wanting a bit more variety. Had I not been in the mood for shellfish I think I may have been a little disappointed, but considering it's a raw bar I shouldnt have been so caught off guard. Anyways, I ordered the sparkling dog to start. It had an extra salty rim and a super sweet taste. I didnt think salty sweet mixed as well as it should have but that could just be my palette. The table ordered the seafood platter and the seafood tower, so basically just a bunch of shellfish. We got the clams steamed which were delicious but not very hot when they got to the table. The oyster selection was magnificent and the shrimps were massive. I was my crazy about the chilled crab legs, ive definitely had better. All in all, I think I would probably go back for the $1 oyster happy hour, but maybe not for regular dining. read more

Food was great! We went on Tues night for all you can eat crab. My guys were not disappointed with the crab legs. The tomato salad was one special of the day and I loved it! AYCE crab legs come with salad and fries or slaw. The salads were all fresh with an Asian style ginger dressing. Fries were hot and tasty. One of our group ordered slaw but no one cared for it. The servers kept the crab legs coming as we were ready. My husband had the fried cod po boy and said it was the best fish he'd had. My 17 yr old was putting away the crab legs and asked for several refills on coke. We were never told by our server they didn't offer free refills. It was a mistake on our part but free refills are common in the area so we didn't think to ask. The server didn't apologize for not telling us when we questioned it on the bill. They also automatically added gratuity for our group of 4. There was no mention of it on the menu as is customary. It's understandable since you keep the servers busy with the all you can eat fill ups but still should be notified in advance. We spend a lot of time in this area, while we enjoyed the food I do not expect we would return to this establishment. read more

What a great dining experience. The atmosphere and decor were so cozy and sheik. I was very impressed with the menu. At first glance, it looks typical as far as selection. But once I started reading the dishes, I knew I was in trouble. I wanted to sample everything but we started with the crab dip and I'm now addicted to their fried wontons that it was served with. Being an oyster lover, I chose to sample some of the oysters and wow, great choice on my part. They had oysters with names I never knew existed and they were so delicious. I also sampled my nephew's lobster fried rice mac and cheese. The lobster was perfectly cooked and had a delicious flavor. My fiancé had the teriyaki chicken noodle bowl and the chicken was so tender and so juicy. Oh, I can't forget about the staff and service which were so friendly and took very good care of us. Food was phenomenal. Everything we ordered was the best we've had since be been in Charleston. We didn't it really have a problem until we got the bill. It's turn out they don't have free refills on sodas which the waiter didn't think of mentioning and the menu didn't say anything about. Since I had order the all you can eat crabs legs I drink six glasses of coke which ended up be an extra $12.
