They really should get at least a 4.5 rating, not 5 as her plate seemed a little light. We also had a side of pasta and GF for her. My food was the Tenderloins of Beef Sotto, Lightly breaded fillet medallions, topped with prosciutto, cheese and mushrooms, in a white wine sauce. I did not like it and neither did the table. $29. Food was mushy and the taste was just not good. The cheese was not melted and it did not taste seasoned. The pasta that comes out to share was unseasoned as well. No flavor. Side salad was indeed small but it tasted good! My friend was stereotyped and was told to wait upstairs even though our entire party was downstairs and it was just not a good interaction. Very attentive and made sure we were getting everything we needed. Never had to wait for anything. Brought out bread - nice and fresh with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. Food so so House salad plain - lettuce with some shredded mozzarella Had the special- chicken Modiga - fair chicken was bland taste and tasted like just an ordinary slice of cheese on top and melted. Celebrating a 65th Wedding Anniversary with a Party of 14. Service was wonderful!! The place is bigger than it appears. But, our food was lack luster at best. My Chicken Pietro was dry and over cooked. The side of White Pasta was bland and needed flavor. My hubby's Lasagna was burnt on the bottom of the metal pan so we actually sent it back and it came out in a different dish with way too much cheese.. yes you can put to much cheese on a dish The Salad was ok. I did love the dressing. I did try my daughter's Pasta Rosa which was good. The Fettuccine Carbonara was ok. Needed more sauce or something. The Appetizers were good.. my favorite was the Fried Artichokes. We were in the mood for a nice big salad and you sure can't go wrong when you get one here. Today I ordered the cobb salad which was loaded with ham, bacon, cheese, egg, and tomatoes. And of course, I used their house dressing. This is definitely a meal in itself, especially if you've had a few slices of their delicious bread with olive oil and Parmesan. Our waiter was great as always. Most of the staff here have worked here for several years and we've never had bad service. They look like there was a lot of holiday celebrations going on and the dining room was full. That is always good to see for a restaurant that's been around for so many years. I told the waiter I wanted to order something after the meal to take home. He kept coming during the meal asking me what I wanted to order. It was clea I was still eating. The take home Pizza was charged at a higher rate than the lunch menu website. I brought it up and was told that was Google not them even though it clearly says Pietro's Website. The pizza was very small, thin and not many ingredients even though I paid extra for the ingredients. Not worth the price! I feel like this should be a 2 star review, but the people were nice and Valentine's Day is a crazy busy night, so I gave an extra star. I will start with what I liked: ambiance, old school charm, ease of making a reservation, plenty of space for large parties, friendly staff, good server. The food that was tasty- the bread, dinner salad, and mozzarella wedges. Now for what was bad... my husband started off with an old fashioned, and I, an espresso martini. They were the worst drinks either of us had ever had. The martini was almost sour. I cringed when I heard a server recommending it to a table near ours. I had the special- filet mignon, cut in half, lightly breaded, I think it had a sauce on it? It tasted so funky. I tried my hardest to eat a couple bites and I just couldn't do it. It tasted nothing close to the flavor of a filet mignon. The white sauce pasta was very bland, no taste. My husband had the veal, and he said it was just okay. I don't do much veal in general, so I can't give a great review of it. I wanted to like the food so much, but there are so many other Italian places in stl with better food. read more

Went to Pietro's for lunch after a funeral we were given our own private room. Which was quite nice. We had a few items to choose from a small select menu. My sister and I got the Pietros chicken serve withHomemade bread and House saladWith a white pasta serve family style. Everything was perfect the chicken crispy and well seasoned with a white wine mushroom sauce. I don't know how they make lettuce and cheese taste so good in the house salad. And a The white sauce pasta was excellent not too garlicky very creamy. Paired mine with a Yuengling draft beer which is always excellent. The server was very good. We came here as a last minute whim on a Friday night. We were really hoping to get a table for the 2.5 of us and wow did we luck out! This place looked to be a small place initially and then they continuously added on. Either way, the place was packed with large families and tons of regulars. We had so much fun at Pietro's the other night! I always forget how big this spot is, especially when I go back to the event space area. We waited a bit for a table, but no problem. They were super busy for a Saturday at 5pm! Our server was efficient and super busy. We ordered drinks first, and were given a wine list. We noticed there wasn't a cocktail menu which would have been super helpful! We ended up getting espresso martinis, a manhattan, and wine (not all mine lol). There was bread at the table for us, and we were brought olive oil and parm for it. For food we ordered the spinach balls which are deep fried breadcrumbs with spinach and cheese. Super delicious. I also got the dinner salad (provel= chefs kiss) and pasta Rosa. My pasta was super good. It was just the right amount of marinara mixed with the Alfredo. Chicken was fresh and cooked well. We were sat and a nice lady from Albania got our dishes and silverware and assisted with refills throughout our meal. Let me start by saying the simple side salad and the bread were good but the main dishes were honestly deplorable. I don't know how they have a high rating at all. The chicken Parmesan was simply not good. The dark red sauce was unappetizing and the chicken just didn't have a good flavor to it. I got a side of penne with red sauce and it was gross. The sauce had a weird sweet and bitter taste. Another guest got the spinach pasta dish and it tasted like a bad Michelina's tv dinner. The cod fish tasted like Gortons fish. The salami on one of the salads tasted like paper. I really just couldn't believe these simple dishes went out of their way to be bad. If you're looking for a nice atmosphere with older clientele. We recently had my Moms celebration of life at Pietros. The food was delicious and we received numerous compliments from our guests in the food we selected. We went with a sit down menu versus a buffet and so we were able to choose from a wonderful selection of signature dishes. The meal included a salad & a pasta (family style). I wish I could remember our server's name because she was so sweet and checked in often, and surprised me with Spumoni with a candle she lit for my birthday. I am so sorry. I come to St. Louis several times a year and really wanted to discover an Old World Italian restaurant to feed my insatiable desire for quality veal. Needless to say, I'm still looking. I arrived for a late lunch - maybe early dinner and discovered a bar with stools filled with ghosts. That should have been my clue. But no, I ventured on and found an employee lurking in a coat room doing his best to avoid eye contact with me. I waited and he stepped out from behind the half door and mumbled: "Follow me." I did - I wish I hadn't. Was introduced to a banquet hall room equipped with banquet tables, banquet chairs, and accordion curtains all circa 1972. I stayed the course. Prompted by Yelp reviews claiming authenticity and quality in food preparation and presentation I selected my meal. A combination appetizer platter and a main course of pasta and broccoli in a cream sauce (No veal to be found on the lunch menu). I added chicken to my pasta dish for additional protein and sat with anticipation of an authentic Italian meal. The combo platter consisting of zucchini, artichokes, arancini, and fried ravioli was seriously disappointing. All were over breaded, over fried, and resembled something strait out of a white plastic bag in the freezer section of a bad grocery store. The dipping sauce was less flavorful than ketchup. My pasta dish arrived and a bewildered waitress stood wide eyed as she realized she had forgotten to add the chicken to the order. "I forgot to have them add chicken" she proclaimed with no hint of problem solving skills in her arsenal. I matched her stare and suggested she ask the kitchen to sear a kitchen breast and I will eat it along side my cream sauced pasta. Instead she turned and left with my bowl of pasta. Returning ten minutes later, I was delivered a bowl of pasta with broccoli and chicken breast in a cream sauce. But wait, there's more. The chicken was inedible due to toughness, the pasta tasted like it came out if a green box and was never drained properly. The sauce was worse than a jar of Prego and held the consistency of skim milk and tap water. I can't report the taste was bad because it simply had no taste. Eventually the waitress returned, saw a full bowl of pasta in front of me, and asked if she could get me a to-go box. I declined, reporting nothing was worth taking home and that I was incredibly disappointed. She stared again, mustered an "I'm sorry", left the check, and scurried away from the table. I know, a long review just to say: "Don't do it". I wanted to warn you as I wish I had been warned. Consider yourself warned! read more

I have been eating at Pietro's for many years and have had family dinners, Christmas celebrations, reunions here. I have never been disappointed but stay fairly close to Italian staples. Their garlic cheese bread has always been one of the best in the area and I always get a full order as I take the leftovers home to my kids.
