We haven't been here in a long time since it is a bit of a drive from West County but today was a cruising day, looking for a patio to enjoy good food and pleasant weather. We got both, here at Pieto's. The roast beef sandwich on Garlic Cheesy Bread was the bomb. The most tender and flavorful roast beef I've ever tasted. Hubby's Veal Parmesan sandwich was good but he thought a little too much sauce for a sandwich. It was messy to eat. The bread basket did not have any butter. Who doesn't want butter with their fresh Italian bread? Service was a little slow but I figured it was because there was a big party going on in the banquet room so kitchen was pretty slammed for a mid afternoon clientele. I requested more napkins and instead of going inside to get some loose ones to restock the server's station on the patio, we were given more wrapped silverware which we had to unwrap and clutter our table with unused silverware. In turn causing the dishwasher to have to wash clean silverware and someone eventually having to rewrap the silver. Bad economics in my opinion. Server's station should be kept stocked with these necessities. Server was very nice just not quite as attentive as he could be. Prices very reasonable especially in today's inflation. At the suggestion of a native friend my son and I came to Pietros. They said unlike the Italian restaurants on The Hill Pietros has parking and they are large so you won't have to wait. Well true BUT the service and food were so incredible that parking was just a garnish. We had their special: chicken breast stuffed w spinach and a white sauce w bacon. Scrumptious. Their house vinaigrette on a simple salad was outstanding. Often vinegar over powers the rest of the ingredients BUT not here. Their house vinaigrette was sweet and savory but not overwhelmed by the vinegar. Jimmy, our waiter took our order and then took an interest in us. He listened to our story and shared the history of the neighborhood. He is a delight. After lunch Mary the owner heard our praise for Jimmy and was a model of hospitality... but she still wouldn't share the secret of how they made their signature salad dressing. Chose this restaurant as a spot to have a birthday dinner based off of yelp reviews, when ordering we got a waiter that was cluless about everything pertaining to the restaurant menu, ordered the three way pasta combination with mostaccioli, ravioli and meatballs and when my dish arrived I was presented with a big bowl of sauceless mostaccioli with a "few" pieces of taseless ravioli shoved here and there in the bowl and two unseasoned meat balls, I had to add salt and pepper as there was zero seasoning in this dish. My wife order pasta con broccoli and recieved a big bowl of noodles swimming in a soup with three pieces of broccoli floating on top , this was by far the worst attempt at Italian that I have ever had. If you grew up in Dogtown, St Louis Hills or the Hill neighborhoods you went to Pietro's after a funeral. I have eaten more Grouper and Chicken there than I could count on all of my fingers and toes. The service here is always good. The food quality is quite good for banquet style service. The meal always begins with a basket of Italian bread which is eagerly consumed by hungry patrons. The entrees are served table by table and they arrive fresh from the kitchen. I have never come here for any occasion other than one of these events. I am not sure why. How have I never been here? It's a STL staple but never made my list. Appetizer combination was piping hot with the fried zucchini and spinach balls being my favorite. Bread service was fresh and generous. Dinner was a St. Louis style pizza that wasn't too saucy and wasn't over-cheesed. Good service, full drinks, bussed the table appropriately. We had my husband's great grandfathers after funeral lunch here in their private room. I had never been here before but many family members had. I cannot say enough about the staff and owner and how they cared for us. We had a buffet style food and they never ran out. The toasted raviolis were delicious and we had chicken parm sandwiches that I could have had 5 of. Although having good food is very important, when you have people who have long standing relationships with their customers and show how much they care, I don't think you can go wrong. This was quiet, elegant and a perfect way to end a long day at the zoo with a ten year old. The atmosphere was inviting, peaceful and had a touch of class missing from many restaurants today. The waiter was excellent at his job and made our dinner go effortlessly. The meals we ordered were cooked to perfection. I had grilled crusted grouper, and the others on our group has fish tacos, and pasta. All was excellent. Even the kids meal. I could have sat in there for hours I enjoyed our meal and time spent there. I would give this place ten stars if I could. We did it early for supper l, around 4:30. Jimmy is the man. I love all the servers here, it's like home, except the people are nicer I almost always get the special of the day and get a side of the cavatelli. Seems like the veal was overcooked, cuz if that's what they're going for it's worse than I thought. Both sauces were pretty thin and not terribly flavorful. They have a long history of good food so maybe this was an off day, so I wouldn't completely avoid them, just try for yourself and see what you think. read more

Ordered to go. We ordered three entrees, the carbonara, the pasta Florentine and the salmon entree. The carbonara sauce was pasty and has barely any meat. The Florentine was dry and flavorless and the salmon came with green beans that obviously came right out of a can. All the "salads", if you can call it a salad" had only lettuce and cheese. This was very disappointing for over $75 in food. I'm giving the second star because at least the free bread was edible. read more

This restaurant has always been a fav and did not disappoint. My daughter put together a Family Dinner to celebrate my husband's 90th birthday last week. They did a set up for 15 and had to add 2 more. No problem! We were seated in the far dining room with only a couple of other diners. It worked out fine for our party. Everyone chose from the menu, loved their food and had enough for next day's breakfast! Staff was friendly and attentive. There is something that must be said for those restaurants out there that truly instill in all their employees that a dinner out is supposed to be a positive experience. I only discovered Pietro's a couple years back and I've been there five times or so since and every time without exception I leave with a huge smile. I can't say that the food is the best ever, it's alway good, hot and filling. I can't say it's because of spectacular drinks, they always arrive on time and good. I will say it's the staff. They treat you like they truly are happy you came in. That says something for any establishment. It says that management treats the staff right and that the people are what makes a business five star, not just the food but everyone that works there. Pietro's gets what an Italian restaurant should be better than perhaps any restaurant on the Hill... and Pietro's isn't even on the Hill! My experience was that Pietro's is a classic Italian restaurant with none of the weaknesses: It's got all the Italian staples. It's clean and open, yet intimate enough for a dinner date. Music plays softly. It's perfectly lit, in my opinion. Not so dark that you can't see the food, your partner, or the (spotless!) Silverware. Not so light that your eyes are tired. The bar is classic, classy, just pleasing to the eye. A coat check attendant! Server poured the wine for me to taste. Bread and olive oil. The look, from furniture to decor to room design, is neither dated nor trendy. It just IS. It's nice dining without "airs." Two pasta entrees, a side salad, a bottle of wine, and a shared dish of spumoni for dessert for $70 before tip is pretty good! I had delicious pasta piselli. My friend had pasta con broccoli and the house salad. We each left with more than half of our dishes remaining. The patio looks nice too. Would like to sit there on a cool day. My only tip for Pietro's: please consider using to-go containers that are more eco-friendly than styrofoam! Thanks! read more

My friend and I came into Pietro's exclusively for pizza on a Friday night. We were able to be immediately seated and the hostess was friendly. The complimentary bread was a little blah, but overall not bad considering it was free. We went for the deluxe St. Louis style pizza, and hot dang. I've never been a fan of St. Louis style, but this pi.- changed my mind completely. The crust was crispy, the sauce was delicious, and the toppings were balanced, with the perfect amount of cheese. Overall, it was perfect and I could have easily eaten a small by myself. After pizza, we went for dessert, and chose the spumoni, a blend of pistachio, cherry, and chocolate ice cream. The portion was perfect for two, and the ice cream was delectable. My favorite flavor was definitely the cherry, but both that flavor and the pistachio had small chunks, which added great texture. My only gripe was the casual nature of the server we had. He also set dirty dishes on our table, which is a definite pet peeve of my dining partner, and overall just a bad move. We started our tradition of going to Pietro's for the October Wednesday night anniversary special back in 2010. It never disappoints. Tonight we had Mick, who has also served us previously. He was wonderful! He's friendly and attentive! He suggested the perfect wine to go with our meal. Karen has also served us in the past and she's amazing. I love that even on a busy night with discount prices the service and quality are still up to par. The owner (I think?) has always been present and helping out the staff, which I love to see. The hostess has been the same since we began going and she's very welcoming, even with a packed lobby! Also, they've updated their decor and it's lovely. read more

They have a great bar area and the restaurant is quite large. There was a private party going on in a back room. There is also a free parking lot. We were greeted, seated and given water and menus. There was a special of the day. Steak covered in cheese with a red wine sauce. It came with a salad and a side dish. We both chose the pasta with red sauce as our side. By the way, our waiter was outstanding. Attentive but not too much. Our salad came out which was the typical Italian salad. The dressing was tasty. Our steaks came out and they were good. The side pasta was good also and we both thought the red sauce was very nice. Would I come back here? Yes, I think it's a good place to go for lunch. read more

It's very casual and family friendly with a staff that's cheerful all the time. There are plenty of great dishes to be had at Pietros. Their chicken Pietro is one of our favorites- grilled, lightly breaded chicken with a fantastic mushroom sauce. Another specialty is the grilled grouper. Also lightly breaded. I've never been disappointed with either dish. My son always gets the chicken Parmesan and loves it. As for the pasta, also always satisfying. I can enthusiastically recommend the tutta mare, cannelloni, and spaghetti with meatballs. If you haven't been, give it a try. If you have, you know what I'm talking about. read more

I've been going to Pietro's for about 15 years and let me say it's great to have found a family-owned, traditional restaurant with reasonably priced, good food and attentive personal service, in this era of chains and inflated prices. The food has always been tasty, the atmosphere fun, and the service first class. Pizza, scampi, toasted ravioli and grilled fish are excellent. The drinks are hearty. Wait people Jimmy and Gina outdo stand-up comics on good nights, and the whole staff is polite and efficient. Really disappointed given all the great reviews. Portions are way too large. Red sauce had way too much sugar and was so much it just drowned the pasta. Meat sauce had barely any meat in it. Would not recommend for Italian. read more

We had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Pietro's on April 29th, 2022 and could not be happier. My husband grew up going to Pietro's for dinner with his family, so it was a great option for a space to host. The Pietro's staff was so kind and accommodating for our party and we had a wonderful time. The service and food were both impeccable and the pricing was very fair as well. They even let us bring in dessert from a local bakery and helped cut it up and serve it for us which made the dinner extra special. We cannot thank Pietro's enough for helping us start our wedding off on the right foot and we would recommend them to anyone wanting to host a dinner event. read more
