I was surprised at the number of pigeons I saw flying around outside in the area. Don't they know any better? The humans certainly know better, that is if they're coming inside for a few brews. The space is neat, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Being a fan of darker beers, I was disappointed that there were no porters or stouts available. But that Turkish Coffee Black Lager was really interesting, like nothing I've previously had. For me, it actually tasted like it could work as a digestif (which for me is a plus). Flights are also available and very reasonably priced. It's a bit of a walk to get here from other "nearby" breweries, but in nice weather, it's a very enjoyable walk. read more

My wife and I went for haircuts at Jensen & Co. and since I was done much quicker, I got to reward myself with a brew from Pigeon Head while she was still at the salon. I was already a big fan of the Swing Shift IPA thanks to the 4 packs that my wife would bring home so I decided to enjoy one from the tap. The barkeep was very friendly (and probably bored since I was the only customer) so we had a great convo about travelling to Europe brought on by the English soccer match being broadcast on the TV. I could've stayed for another two or three beers but my wife came and retrieved me before I could get into too much trouble. I will be back after our next haircuts! read more

I love this bar. I used to live in the lofts next door, and I came to think of Monday and Tuesday as "the days that Pigeon Head is closed." That's what happens when you pass by it every day coming home from work! Now that I live in south south Reno, I have the distance and objectivity to say it loud and proud: Pigeon Head is still a five star brewery and bar. Regardless of what kind of beer you like: you'll find it here. Ales, lagers, barley wines, Oktoberfest Märzen, stouts: they have got them. And most of the beers are available in $1 taster sizes if you are not sure that you want to commit. Prices: reasonable. Super reasonable. "Invite your colleagues and buy multiple rounds for everyone" reasonable, which I did a few weeks ago. One can buy 6 tasters and you get to carry them back to your table in a cool metal taster carrier. Or stick with the full size drinks, poured expertly in the correct glassware. The bartenders here have always been friendly, cool, and knowledgable. I always feel welcome, even when I'm that weirdo who is drinking by myself while reading a book or an article for work. Growlers: one can get them here. When I lived next door, a growler of their pilsner was always in my fridge. Snacks are available, too! At one time they sold pretzels. Now it's crackers and cheese and charcuterie. I dig it. The bathroom is clean, and one can check out the brewery related equipment along the way. The bar area is ample, and there are super cool hard wood high-tops as well as picnic tables inside and out. Local art on the walls, and Cards Against Humanity on the board game table. What more could one want? I love being able to drink Pigeon Head beer all over town (the black lager and red rye lager are my go-to's) and I love Pigeon Head being part of the Fourth Street awesomeness project. read more

I've had many a pigeon head lager but have never sampled any of their other beers. It was time. A blustery Sunday afternoon seemed like a good day to sample a few beers and hang out. The brewery is rather quaint, small and cozy. The service was good and flights were reasonable, $8 for four generous pours. The black lager was tasty and more robust then expected. I especially liked the red rye lager. It's always refreshing to find a brewery willing to brew more than just IPA's Nothing against a good IPA, but I find lagers can be a bit more tricky to brew, and more time consuming to get right. I have to admit my favorite is still their tried and true Pigeon Head lager, but it was great to see a good selection of their own brews with subtle twists. The Turkish black lager could almost pass as a holiday brew with a very interesting seasoning. Is that cardamom? If you haven't been here, I'd recommend checking them out and giving them a toast! read more

The $6 flight of 6 taster beers by Pigeon Head Brewery was hands down, my favorite beer flight yet. I loved every single beer I tried, which is rarity for me. Perhaps the reason why I was so enamored by Pigeon Head Brewery is because this brewery is primarily larger based, and this girl loves lagers!! My husband and I stopped by in the afternoon on a weekday, and the place was empty save the bartender and one other couple sitting at the bar. The bartender was friendly and helpful, aiding in my quest to find the perfect brews to match my palette. The vibe to the brewery is arty industrial - we were fans of the colorful Hans Solo piece. Pigeon Head is one of my favorite breweries in town hands down. They always put out quality beers and I enjoy the very casual, low-key vibe of the tasting room and patio. I have been here a few times over the years but it had been a while, and a recent visit had me asking the question "why don't I come here more?!". My party of three arrived just after happy hour (darn!) and were warmly greeted by the bartender (possibly owner?) and enjoyed various beers they had on tap including the pineapple basil lager, their signature German style lager, the red rye lager, and IPL. All were delicious and my party repeatedly mentioned how good the beers were. They did not have a food truck this time, but not to fret as we ordered a pizza from Pub & Sub which was delivered rather swiftly. We stayed and enjoyed the warm summer breeze on their cozy patio until closing time of 8pm--all and all a stellar place to go for beers and chills. read more

Pigeon Head does have a cool, laid back atmosphere to drink a couple (or few) beers and it's in a unique location, which makes it exciting to venture to. Initially I went here because at Whispering Vine we serve Red Rye lager on tap and a customer was telling me the brewery is awesome and I must check it out, so I wanted to see what else they had to offer. Plus, the Red Rye lager is pretty tasty and not strong at all for being 7.5%. Walking through the door I immediately loved the smell of stale hops and yeast and the beer list was written largely in chalk above the taps. The young man serving behind the bar had no personality whatsoever and it was difficult to ask him questions about the different beers. It seemed as though he couldn't wait for the day to be over and he looked very bored. It was well before 5:00 on a Friday night, so the night was still young. I always enjoy getting a flight at any brewery so I can try them all, obviously. But when I feel rushed, awkward, and stared at it's hard to make up my mind, so I randomly chose my beers as quickly as possible. After tasting the Red Rye lager at Pigeon Head, it tasted completely different in comparison to what I was used to and I wasn't a fan. I'm not sure why it was so different - could it be keg upkeep, pressure, carbonation, age, etc.? It wasn't too crowded which was nice, so we got a tall table inside where we could look at the casks and barrels while we tasted. There was a laminated menu on the tables for the food truck parked outside. It was nice they had food to offer in case you feel like grabbing a bite with your beer. None of the beers stood out to me and one in particular that I could not get down was the jalapeno / habanero IPA. I'm not even sure why I ordered this one, pressure I guess! It was so funny, right as I was telling my boyfriend that I, myself, could never order a pint of the jalapeno beer some guy walked up to the bar (he seemed like a regular) and ordered a gigantic mug of the jalapeno IPA. The mug must have been 24 ounces! No offense, just not for me. If you like jalapeno beers, this one is spicy and has a kick to it, that's for sure. read more

My buddy who lives in Reno showed me this place because I wanted to check out other breweries other than Revision which is our usual go to but they mainly only have IPAs which can get old. Pigeon Head had a lot of different styles of beers like a jalapeño beer which had the heat from the jalapeño but wasn't too spicy. The milk oatmeal stout they had on draft was also outstanding. I tried a Indian Pale Lager for the first time there and loved it. But this review mainly goes out to the beertender named John who was very helpful and insightful when I asked him boatloads if questions about how they made the beer and at what points in the beer fermentation process they would add ingredients. My favorite local brewery hands down! They make great beer and always have varied selection. I am personally a stout/porter girl, but their black lager and barleywine are tasty. My current favorites are the whiskey porter and the snickerdoodle stout on nitro. The guys that work there are very friendly and keep tabs on your glass if you need a refill even while sitting out on the patio at a picnic bench. Currently the art for sell inside is Bryce Chisholm, and he just paired the outside of the building under the Wells overpass and it is amazing!!. Parking is easy and dogs are never a problem on the patio. There is plenty of seating inside and games to play. They also have a list of places like Pub and Sub that will deliver you food. This is what a brewery should be. A good selection of complex ranging from a Pilsner to a whiskey porter, beers fare finely crafted. Tonight I tried the juicy smooch a New England style IPA. A light on the palate slightly Hoppy with a 5.8 ABV. I also tried the smoked maibock. The Smoky flavor is not overpowering and goes down smoothly goes down smoothly goes down smoothly it's a 6.3 abv. Atmosphere - The old SPCA building cleaned up. Wood and metal work fill the place, a theme for breweries in the area. The unique pieces of wood make up a few of the tables. The table tops are made of horizontal cross sections of trees. Something about seeing tree rings fascinates me. No, I did not count the rings to see how old the tree was. Food Drinks - This is a lager house, they have three maturation tanks for their lagers. I am a hoppy beer lover and the IPL, Indian Pale Lager has a great nose and taste. This is one of my favorite beers here in town. Service - One bar tender here tonight. I think the other one was getting off shift when we arrived. We did close the place, yeah I was up that late. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the interior of the brewery or what it's like at all. We came to visit during covid and the beers had to be ordered curbside so we had to take them back to the hotel. I got to say though, the beer was so good! I had to try this place after my job in Vegas actually put silver sage by pigeon head on tap. We tried a large variety of beers and we were not disappointed at all. This is a brewery worth visiting! I love the decorations and feel of the place, and the beer is fantastic! This brewery is tucked back away from basically any normal walking area, so you'll have to bike or drive to get there, but it's definitely worth it. The place is decorated with fantastic art, and plenty of pigeon head pictures as well. You can see the tanks that they brew beer in behind a chain link fence, which adds a nice touch to the brewery/bar experience. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for large or small groups and card games to keep your group entertained (we played cards against humanity). They also offer free delivery from several restaurants on Wednesday and Thursday, and will have a food truck on Friday and Saturday, in case you want something to eat with your beer. The beer is delicious as well. They had 6 selections on tap: Pilsner, IPL, Red Rye Lager, Black Lager, I SOURED ME SWARTZ, and a black wine (I can't remember the name). My personal favorite was the Red Rye Lager. We were also very happy with our bartender, Wilson. He was very friendly, and even stayed long enough for us to have one more for the road! I decided to check this brewery out because it had the highest Yelp rating. I was not disappointed, this brewery is top notch. Each of the beers I tasted were high quality and they tasted great.
