Don't even bother trying to place an order here even on a non busy weeknight. We asked multiple times for a server's attention from the food runners and could not even place a drink order with anyone that worked there within 35 minutes of sitting down on a Wednesday. We decided to leave after embarrassing ourselves for a FOURTH time trying to get a server's attention to place a drink order. Definitely a bummer. read more

Tried this place for lunch for the first time today and it was pretty good! It was "Taco Tuesday", so, of course, I got a fried battered fish taco, a carnitas taco and a Tuesday special house margarita. The fish taco was solid but a little dried out, which is not uncommon with fried battered fish. Nice cabbage, sauce and tomatoes. The carnitas taco was very good, quite lean and great flavor with a little bit of heat to it. However, they also put white cabbage and tomatoes on top just like the fish taco which was a bit odd. Corn tortillas were good. My margarita was excellent. Prices were not bad at all for the Tuesday specials. Great service. Nice outdoor seating area. Parking can be a challenge but there is a large free parking lot just down the street. read more

Been here a couple time, so it's time to review. Located steps from the ocean. Sat on the patio / street so we could enjoy the ocean breeze. Server promptly took food and drink order. Drinks came quickly. Wings here are great. Crispy/ hot and sauces are great. As my kids would say, there are no mushy fat parts. The are Cooke perfect my. Bbq and hot are good sauces. Good robust flavor. Good selection of craft beers. Very quiet and not loud from the traffic. Will be going back for the wings. read more

We have come here with a big party twice now. The second time it was summer/busy and the service wasn't great. They accommodated us but seemed really irritated. The first time they were awesome so I would go back and try it again. Food is great and it's just a quaint little spot. read more

What could be improved? Service! I arrived late after my group had arrived. Server asked my order and I told them I was just getting a drink for now. Waited, waited, and waited. No drink. A couple walked in and the server greeted them as if they were a regular and known customer. Their order was taken and several minutes later their drinks were delivered. After another three or four minutes, the server came back over to me and said, "Now what was it you wanted?" My rules are simple: Great service and great food. Go Great service and OK food. We come here every time we're in Solana Beach. The food is always good, and we've had sandwiches, burgers, salads, wraps. Etc. Today I had the vegetarian black bean burger with the portobello on it. So moist, I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. My hubby had the tri tip served Philly cheese steak style with tater tots. The tri tip was so tender and delicious. My wife and I visited before going to the SD County Fair and had a great time here! Nice indoor and outdoor sitting area and their happy hour was from 3-6pm. They have a great selection of small bites and draft beer. We ordered the draft amber, Japanese lager, hazy, and Pacifico and all were delicious. Our favorite was the Japanese lager because it was flavorful and crisp. The waiter was attentive and always smiling. We ordered a few minutes before 3pm and was charged full price for the first two beers but one of the owners Ryan updated the pricing this one time and politely explained it's when the server adds the beer to the tab. Cozy restaurant, great staff, delicious beer, unbeatable prices. Can't wait to come back to try more beers and their food! Ahi tacos sound amazing! read more

Had a lot of fun here! Went for happy hour and stayed longer as the ambience was great and the food and drinks were also good. The wings were what initially brought us in and those were solid. Not a ton of happy hour drink options but service was good and beverages were still enjoyable (we did the $5 shots and some cocktails). Only complaint I have was that the tacos on the happy hour special weren't available beyond the happy hour times - they were yummy so would have loved to get some more. It is a cute looking place on the outside. On the inside it is just your typical bar. They did follow protocol for the virus well, and even had plastic dividers up between the booths. I ordered the chicken egg rolls and the lemon pepper wings. The chicken egg rolls weren't that great, and were like half a roll with shredded chicken inside. Meh. The lemon pepper wings were good. They were lemony. They were peppery. When you check in, you will get complimentary chips and salsa. Not the best salsa, but it's edible while you're waiting. To be honest I haven't yet had the privilege of dining here, although I certainly will. This post is about a certain employee named Barry who exhibited tremendous character. You see I lost a wallet while visiting Solano Beach and someone turned it in to Barry. Barry spent over a week trying to track me down to return my lost wallet. Barry refused to accept anything in return and spent significant time returning it to me. There are still good people in this world and Barry is one of them. The staff was very friendly, quick to sit us and take our orders but the food was just OK. The veggie sandwich was one texture with not much flavor, the sauce for the coconut shrimp is just sweet and spicy chicken sauce when traditionally Orange marmalade sauce. The water tasted funny so I got an ice tea but I needed a lot of lemon to help with the water taste. I did like the fish and chips but probably wouldn't come back if I was in the area. read more

We took a train to Solana Beach and came across this place for a late lunch. All the food that was being served looked very appealing. We ordered potato skins and a teriyaki platter with Mac salad, cilantro jalapeño rice and green salad. It was so yummy. The staff was really great and the service was good. We ordered: Chicken and Waffles- per my hubby this was delicious Chilaquiles w/ bacon it was so yummy! The only flaw was the chips were really soggy to where I didn't eat them. Check in with the yelp app and you also can get complimentary chips and salsa (the salsa was delicious). The seating wasn't great so that is why the four stars. However the staff and the food will have us coming back. read more

Stopped here before going to a concert and was extremely pleased with the quality of the drinks, as well as the freshness of the salad. The salmon was cooked just right and the side of tortillas I ordered was warm and fresh! My boyfriend ordered a burger, which I had a bite of and I would not personally recommend it, but that's my taste buds talking. The burger had a flavor and texture of a meatloaf that had been over mixed and too compacted. But all in all, I would come here again! They were quite busy, but the service was still good. read more

We moved to Cardiff 2.5 years ago and this has been a favorite spot since then. We are huge wings fans, and theirs are some of the best we've had anywhere!! They have lots of different flavors, Sweet Flame and honey teriyaki are two favs. Today we tried the fish and chips for the first time...OMG seriously one of the absolute best fish on a fish and chips I've had!! The batter is light and crispy, and the fish is moist and flakey. The tartar sauce is good too. The French fries are delish too. I don't think we've ever had anything we didn't like. Maybe today was an off day for place. We saw that the reviews were good and came here for dinner. While our server was nice and we liked the outdoor seating option, nearly all the food was disappointing, lacking a standout flavor and good texture. Even though it's close to the ocean, you can't see it from here. We saw a bit of sunset colors. Our favorite parts of the meal were the elements that most likely weren't made in in-house, like chips and drinks. The service time to get our food seemed a bit slow. I couldn't in good conscience recommend this place and sadly will not be back. Queso Fundido-The chips were the highlight, and the dip itself was lacking flavor. It felt like something I'm ok to throw together at home, but should be more special here. Marinated steak tips-The meat was very chewy, and the flavor was ok. Pulled pork sandwich-Sadly, the fries were the highlight. Not enough of any of the sandwich fillings and the onion ring inside was small and chewy instead of crispy. Though the meat was tender and the brioche bun was good, every element lacked flavor. Grilled Mexican Caesar Salad-We should have looked up a picture beforehand, but due to the lettuce being grilled, it was such a small salad. The dressing was good though. Drinks-We got drinks from the tap and enjoyed them. Good selection. Maybe it's best to just come here if you're in the area to grab a drink. read more

Celebrating a friend's birthday we decided to go someplace we hadn't been before and the Pillbox was on our list. Ryan greeted us & immediately we felt welcomed. I had the Margarita De Pillbox with Beer battered Fish & tots. My friend hade had the Noonish with the Shrimp Al Mezcal. A few bites in and we agreed that we would have to come back and try some of the other items on the menu. It is that good.! I even got some wings & a sandwich to go. I took a little road trip down the San Diego with my sister and mother in law for a little girls trip as we go wedding shopping. We wanted to stop at the beach for a little and found this cute little tavern. They had both indoor and outdoor seating. As we were waiting to be seated a server walked by with a plate of fish and chips that not only looked delicious but smelled so good! We were seated by the FRIENDLIEST server Michael! He helped us decide what to get to eat and drink. Their house made sauces and sweet and sour syrup for the margaritas are to die for! Will make a drive down again for the food but even more for the service! Thank you Michael for making our lunch date so great!
