Tried to have dinner here a few weeks ago and ended up having to leave after waiting almost two hours for our meal that never came. We had reservations which we arrived 10 minutes early for. After 20 or so minutes we ordered an appetizer which was delivered to another table who took it even though they said it wasn't there's, then after asking again where our appetizer was, it was again brought out to the table behind us who said that it was ours. The calamari was cold and over salted. We repeatedly had to ask for water which was never refilled. We ordered dinner and after 45 minutes and two tables who arrived after us receive their meals, our waitress came to ask my husband what he wanted on his hamburger to which he replied that he did not order a hamburger (he ordered the short rib bourguignon and I ordered the sole) and he asked where our dinner was. The waitress left, walked inside and sat down. We waited another 15 or so minutes and got up to go inside and ask where our meal was again. We were told they'd let us know in a few minutes. I have to add here that I am a Type 1 Diabetic, insulin dependent for 50 years. I had given myself my insulin for our entire meal after we received our appetizer thinking I would have timed it well to get our dinner within 20 or so minutes after getting and finishing the appetizer. Needless to say after waiting almost an hour my blood sugar started to drop and I knew I'd be in big trouble if we didn't get food soon. When we made the decision to leave the waitress told us they were busy (they were at about 20% occupancy) and they were serving reservations first (remember we had reservations? ) and that was why we were not getting our dinner. We asked for the bill to pay for what was served to us and the manager asked that our bill reflect a 50% discount after we spoke to her. The waitress brought us a bill with no discount, she said nothing to us and walked away. At this point we needed to leave immediately before I was in a severe hypoglycemia situation. A romantic date night out turned into one of the worst dinning experiences we've ever had! Strongly do not recommend to anybody and definitely not to my fellow T1D's, especially if you don't want to eat all your emergency snacks to survive passing out instead of dinner! read more

Came here for Dine Downtown with my friends. We ordered drinks to start, most of them being a classic Hurricane cocktail. It was a little strong (but I think they generally are haha). For our courses we picked the Nduja Croquettes for our appetizer. These were fantastic! Came with a fresh pesto bed as well. For our main entree we selected the Short Rib Bourguignon. This was as tasty. I feel like mine had a bunch of mushrooms but overall the short rib and potatoes were good. For the dessert, I chose the Meyer Lemon Bar. It was pretty tart and I think at this point I was just too full to enjoy it. The others at the table had Pete's Pot De Crème, which was fluffy and tasted great. Probably the best thing I had during this dinner. We sat up on the second deck by the bar. It wasn't too crowded so it was good volume level. Talk about dinner with a view! For Mother's Day, my Pop took my Mom and me out for dinner and an overnight stay. Our experience here was memorable. The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Delta King, a docked paddle-wheel boat. Being on the Sacramento River, the view is lovely. A beautiful waterfront view in a charming historical boat. The restaurant is a decent size with tables and booths for various party sizes. The decor is vintage and nautical with a casual vibe. We found the service to be friendly, warm, and efficient. My family and I shared appetizers and ordered our dishes. We had the Bartlet Pear Salad and Pan Seared Crab Crakes. The salad was fine, nothing special. I love crab cakes but was slightly disappointed as these didn't hold their shape. It was a bit soft and mushy. For my entrée, I had the Pan Seared Petrale Sole. The fish was quite thin and overcooked, swimming in butter. I also was misled as it stated seasonal vegetables but was only given carrots. I had bites of my family's dishes which I enjoyed more! We ended the night with Lava Cake, which wasn't very runny inside. If you live in Sacramento or want a view, I do recommend at least checking out the Delta King, a historic boat. It's located in Old Town with street parking around. In my opinion, this is a restaurant where the view is better than the food. We had a great experience overall and would definitely come back. Our server was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The food was delicious, and everything we ordered was full of flavor. The only disappointment was the sole. It was tasty, but the portion was surprisingly small, about half the size of the photos we've seen on Yelp. We're not sure if the restaurant recently reduced the serving size or if we just happened to receive an unusually small portion, but it definitely didn't match what we were expecting based on other diners' photos. That said, everything else was excellent, and we still had a wonderful time. We'd happily return and hope the sole portion is more in line with what we've seen in the past. read more

I went down the ramp thing and was IMMEDIATELY greeted "Ahoy" by such a personable and charming character. Ha ha had me giggling like Smurfette. By then I was struck by the quaint surroundings. It's not a boat it's a SHIP! With a small library of books you can borrow near the little computer desk and BOOM there it iz. I found the grand staircase, UGH!!! Looking like it did in 1927. UGH!!! So incredibly beautiful!!!! You gat three choices- sit at the bar, eat lunch and make some new friends. Sit at the tables outside and enjoy the magnificent breeze and river view with your buddies (if you already have friends). I sat on a sturdy wooden chair inside (wondering why I don't have any friends). But when I eat here I feel like I do. The service is absolute PERFECTION. They really know how to connect with people. I felt like my business was APPRECIATED. A level down from the casual bar area is the beautiful dining room with the beautiful blonde hostess ALWAYS at the host station and ALWAYS ready to greet you with a very beautiful smile. This is where the soft and padded seats are. Table cloths are fresh and crisp and white just waiting for me to destroy them with some shrimp cocktail sauce. I ate and ate and ate while still enjoying the views. The menu has something for everyone. It goes from a meatless bolognese to a decadent pasta dish, there's some sole/salmon options. If you're girl eats like a beast you can toss her a 10oz flat iron steak. Expect these proteins to be artfully balanced atop some perfectly cooked fingerlings and some tender veggies. I had a spring salad with a citrus dressing that was so perfectly done it made my arugula ARUGULA!!! Ok nap time I checked into my little room (emphasis on the word little because the door was so narrow I had to turn sideways in order to enter and if you're any taller than six feet you may have to crouch down a bit) and ZOMG I immediately fell in LOVE!!! This is so great! It was air conditioned, it has a private bathroom and shower. The SHIP (remember it's not a boat) did not rock or sway and it was quiet so very easy to fall into your food coma while watching tv. Also note- completely haunted. I was exploring the museum and old theater area downstairs taking pictures with my camera phone and I saw a man's face looking back at me. I went ahead and snapped the pic but the image did not appear in the pic. I was so scared I trusted the elevator to take me back up to the top (6 levels) with meeting and banquet rooms available to rent. So if you ever host an event here like a meeting or a wedding or a graduation party and you ask her to come. She definitely will. read more

I went here for lunch on a hot day in the summer. Due to this, there was only indoor seating. There's no AC so they have a giant fan in the corner. It's a small restaurant with only about 8 tables around the bar. The menu is small too. I went on a weekday and there was only one server for the 8 tables plus people at the bar. He was really nice and informative of the menu. The food didn't take too long to come out. I got the fish and chips which were good. There wasn't much else on their lunch menu I wanted to try upon a second visit. Their breakfast menu looks really good so I'll have to return during breakfast hours. read more

One of the most unique restaurants in Sac! Located on the Delta King paddle boat, docked in Old Sac. Dine with a view of the water in the formal dining room or in the bar (that often has live music). The food seems to have been updated in recent years and the service is (usually) good. We were dining during an exceptionally busy night recently and the service did lag a bit, but we forgave it due to the busy nature of the night! They offer a variety of seafood, pasta and steak entrees, classically prepared and presented. And their desserts are excellent. The waiting staff was very friendly once they finally attended to us. I was waiting at the hostess stand for a while before someone even addressed me despite the several people who walked past me and helped people right before me. The cocktails were great! The menu was not accurate and they brought out something that I was not expecting. The food was also not great. We got the fried calamari which came out burnt-ish. They were very nice about taking it back for a new one but they brought out a very similar product that wasn't great. We also got the flatbread and that was just okay, only enough to share with 2 people. The Cajun pasta was pretty good. The crabcakes were just okay as well. Not very flavorful. He is the go to guy for information personality and he treats everyone of his customers like they are special. I came here on Christmas Day. We actually made reservations couple weeks for a our party for Christmas day. We also even called to confirm the reservations but things did not go as planned the day of. When we arrived there, they seemed to have trouble finding our reservations. Long story short - we had to wait about 20-40 minutes for our table and we arrived on time/early for our reservation. So I was a little upset about that. After we were seated, we were given our menus. Well, to our surprise, they did not give us the correct menus for half our party. The short braised ribs fettucine was on it so when we went to order it, we were told by the waiter that's the wrong menu. So the events leading up to the meal made it seem like this restaurant is organize - potential loss reservation and handing out wrong menus? Also, we saw some tables with bread but we didn't get any complimentary bread either. I am a little confused if bread is or isn't complimentary. I didn't see bread on the menu either. I ordered the mahi mahi and had some appetizers. We got 3 appetizers to share among us - calamari, flat bread and the brussels sprouts. I thoroughly enjoyed the brussels sprouts and the sauce that came with it. The calamari wasn't bad and the flatbread was okay as well. The fish seemed overcooked and dry. Some people ordered the salmon and it seemed dry. The risotto seemed undercooked and not very good either. Overall, the food was very mediocre. After the meal, I overheard the staff requesting kids menu for a table. We have kids in our table and requested for a high chair so I am confused if they offer a kids menu. Kids menu wasn't offered or given to us so another point of disorganization in this restaurant. If you ask for parking validation, they do give you a piece of paper where you scan the barcode. I believe it took $6 off the parking price. We parked at one of the parking structures nearby as suggested on their website, somewhere near I and 2nd? We were also surprised by the 22% Christmas surcharge on our bill. Our service is also lacking. My son asked for more water but the wait staff refused it to him. They took away half our water cups and left the other ones near the end, and only chose to refilled certain water cups. The restaurant did feel very festive for Christmas though, it has lights and a Christmas tree which was nice. It did have a warm feeling. The service and food was definitely lacking though - not sure if I'll return again. read more

2/21/26 Horrible experience for party of 6! Our server was inattentive, untrained, and clearly didn't care. We requested bread for our table (up charge) and waited 30 minutes to be served 2 slices of toast! The soup was served cold and 1 entree was too salty to eat yet there was no urgency to rectify it. My husband and I ate here for our anniversary dinner last night and I was very impressed!!! It has a calm and romantic atmosphere. Our server Sladjana was THE SWEETEST server we've ever had. She showed us some of the photos on the wall and told us a bit about the Delta Kings history. She was personable, friendly and just very pleasant overall. Had a really nice, very early dinner here last night! Jamie was our server and he was wonderful! Helpful (but not too much), knowledgeable, kind, and not pushy! We started with the crab cake - delicious! No Old Bay seasoning and more meat than bread crumbs. Our cocktails were tasty as well! I had the Queens Linen and my husband had an Old-Fashioned with the recommended whiskey. For dinner we both had the New York Strip steaks, medium rare. They were cooked well and very tender. The mashed potatoes were yummy and not too salty. The broccoli may have been a bit over cooked for my preference, but still okay. We sat downstairs by a window in the river side. The view was gorgeous! Sine it was an early dinner, in mid-November we got to watch the sunset. Crème Brûlée for dessert - great flavor but a little loose and heavy on the sugar perhaps. We came here for an afternoon cocktail and decided to have lunch. Cocktails were very good I had a hurricane and my wife had a French 75. For lunch, my wife had the chicken sandwich. While a lot of potential, the bread ratio was off the charts. My wife tried to cut out the bread to try and achieve the right ratio. See image. I ordered the Fried Calamari sandwich. Two calamari patties which were clearly frozen and then cooked. Would not order again. Both our fries came mildly warm. Service was good and it was a beautiful day. Weeknight work dinner for visiting colleagues, a party of 12. The Pilothouse Restaurant is part of the Delta King Hotel paddlewheel riverboat moored in Old Sacramento on the water. Street metered parking is 2 hours, enforced until 10 PM. Otherwise, there is either the Old Sacramento Parking Garage or the Tower Bridge Garage, both City of Sac Parking that can take validation. Personalized printed menus "Welcome Aboard Nuseed" with the date. Two appetizers to choose from -- Fritto Misto (Calamari), or Spanish Cremini Mushrooms. Bread baskets and butter for the table as well. A Caesar salad option was there as well. Entree selections included Salmon, Pork Chop, Steak, or Pasta. The dessert was a Chocolate Lava Cake. Samantha was our main server and she did a great job taking down our orders, water refills, etc. I didn't get a pic of the calamari or mushrooms, but I had the Caesar and added chicken. The chicken was a bit dry, but the house-made dressing was good! For my main I went with the honey soy glazed Atlantic salmon which came with a garlic sage couscous. Portion was okay, sweet chili sauce on top too, thankfully not dry like the chicken was. Probably could have used a vegetable accompaniment to the dish. Others around the table got the New York Steak (in one instance, two steaks for one order), the Cajun Vegetable Pasta, and a special vegetarian order of the Farmhouse Salad. Steaks were mostly cooked to the desired doneness. I don't think anyone got the pork chop that I saw. Every other person saved room for dessert. The chocolate lava cake came with vanilla ice cream and chocolate/raspberry drizzles. I wouldn't say it was actually molten/lava inside, but otherwise yummy. Old-time jazzy music set the ambiance. While eating I was fine, but when walking to the restroom or to leave, you definitely could feel the boat moving a little so steady those sea legs! Our window view was facing Old Sacramento rather than the river toward West Sacramento/ziggurat building, but still had great [chilly] photo opportunities at the staircase inside, and of the Tower Bridge lit up at night. read more

I went to the restaurant mid afternoon. Not that many people there. I had the salmon Caesar. The dressing was delicious but the fish was not fresh. I told the nice looking dark haired waiter that I would pay for it but that the fish was not fresh. I let him know that I would be leaving shortly so he could bring my bill. I waited 10 minutes and he didn't come back so I went to the counter and he made me wait for my bill while he finished unstacking his glasses. I commented I'm usually a 20% tipper but you didn't come back out to give me the bill and he said "you don't have to tip me at all"and then he said "don't come back" wow! I am obsessed with this restaurant. My second time eating here was for the Thanksgiving Buffet with family, and wooooow. So worth it. Things I ate and loved: * Macarons * Cake * Prime Rib with au jus sauce and fresh creme horseradish * Carved turkey with gravy obviously * Seafood and shellfish buffet (fresh oysters!) * Mashed potatoes * Fish fillet * Salad bar * So many other things I can't even remember Seriously so worth the money. I couldn't believe they were straight up slicing off huge pieces of prime rib with au jus and horseradish. That alone makes me dream of coming back here for Thanksgiving again. The family at the table next to us was large and inebriated, but extremely friendly, and we joked with them about how nice it is to not have to COOK on Thanksgiving and instead enjoy time out of the house at a nice restaurant! What's also nice is the view. We had a beautiful corner booth that gave us a wide window view of the Sacramento River, and the cute Christmas decor everywhere made it so festive and beautiful. I haven't had one bad thing at this restaurant in the two times I've been here, and just writing this review makes me want to come back! The service is always great. The food is fantastic. Dinner was incredible! It was a very busy holiday weekend evening, right after the Old Sacramento Theater of Lights (super sweet family event- and free!). The wait staff assigned to us was clearly overwhelmed but the manager, Sophia, jumped in and made us feel really taken care of. When dinner arrived it looked amazing and omg was it ever. Perfectly tender salmon and steak, literally cut the steak with a fork, melt in your mouth. Risotto also the perfect texture, creamy without being heavy or dense. All of the flavors came through, nothing was over salted or overwhelming. Really high quality food - expect to eat really well! Thank you Sophia and thank you to the chef. The atmosphere is interesting, but that's about where it ends as a dining experience. Arrived early for dinner and the staff is friendly and cordial. We were seated at a nice side table, yet I found the seats most uncomfortable. That doesn't typically bother me, but these chairs just didn't do it for a casual dinner. We ordered and one person got the chicken entree, and we were then informed that was the only one. OK, no problem, but three of us ordered the pork chop only to have the waiter return and tell us there was only one of that item too. You'd think the kitchen and wait staff would coordinate that before handing out menus, and we were the first in the room. Odd. So I compromised and ended up getting the Cajun linguini, which was not good at all. There was not one Cajun thing about it, having lived in New Orleans and had many Cajun dishes, including in Cajun country; plus I cook it myself. It was bland, tasteless, lacking any flavoring or spiciness and the only possible Cajun ingredient were some prawns. The supposed andouille sausage wasn't andouille at all, but rather some tasteless ground meat. Andouille has power and punch, plus distinctive taste. Such a letdown, as a substitution too. At least they need to remove the term Cajun! I did start with the fried calamari that was the highlight of the meal for me. Crispy and fried just right, if anything they were a bit overbreaded. We were never offered coffee or tea after the meal, although they did comp a shared dessert as it was a celebratory dinner. Seriously, during these times I do my best to be kind, understanding, because of supply and staffing issues, but these were truly missteps. There were a couple of annoying flies that kept landing on food and drink, which didn't help matters. I hope they improve as it feels more like a tourist trap than a quality experience, sorry to say. read more

Went here during lunch hour for an afternoon work meeting. The ship was still decorated with holiday lights and designs which made it seam inviting. We were seated promptly and able to order food quickly. Not many options for drinks as they had the basic sodas and some lemonade available. I ordered the fish and chips meal which left much to be desired. The batter was extra thick and without flavor to where you had to rely on the tartar sauce to make the taste bearable. The fries were chunky, basic and not worth much. Didn't try the coleslaw so I have no opinion on it. The waiter we had was not attentive and did not replenish drinks. Overall this was my first time here and as I see it will be my last. Had it not been for work, I don't think I would have eaten here on my own. Try at your own risk. read more

New to Sacramento, and wanted to try out this cool looking restaurant. Hostess was friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was great and attentive. The food on the other hand was terrible. We started with the Calamari, which I can compare to chewing on a rubber band. The batter was nearly burnt, and the squid it itself was so tough. I think we had 3 pieces before we had them take it away. I ordered the rosemary chicken with mashed potatoes. When they brought it, I took a look at the chicken which looked like they sprinkled chives on top of plain chicken. Upon cutting the chicken leg, the inside was still pink and blood began to run on to my potatoes. I was so disappointed because the concept is cool but man was the food terrible. Service was horrible. From the long wait for the hostess while the place wasn't busy to the waitress who took forever to give us the check I've never seen such a lousy place. Oh and I told the waitress that I'm not eating bread or potatoes and sure enough the entree shows up with spuds! The food was tasteless. Poor service, mediocre food, and high prices are no way to run a restaurant. I haven't been here in a while and judging by this experience I won't be back. Our server must have learned his craft as a Post Mate delivery man. He was barely there except to take our order. I had to ask for utensils for our table. They brought out our appetizers but delayed the salad. We asked for bread and it finally came out towards the end of the meal. The server never asked about the food (ok) and only came back to bring our check. I know this is a tourist destination but I have been to most of them in old Sac. Wow! What a pleasant surprise! The food is as good as the ambiance. We were seated for lunch with a river view. Service was friendly and fast. Our drinks were refilled regularly. The food quality was impressive for a lunch menu. The fish was crispy and flaky. The burger was juicy and flavorful. The salmon was fresh. And the chicken club had so much flavor, we wish wr had ordered 2. (My son is still teying to figure out he could make that sandwich at home) The decor was old time elegance. If I could give this place is zero or a -5 I would do it in a heartbeat. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in my life and I'm 62 years old and go out on a regular basis. My wife and I enjoy their couples went there at 4 o'clock to have dinner. We seated right at the bottom of the stairs and proceeded to order appetizers and cocktails. About 20 minutes later, the "manager in charge" came to me and asked me to talk to me privately. Since I already know that my voice carries, I told her there was no reason to pull me aside privately because I already know what you wanna talk to me about and I'm not embarrassed and my friends don't care. She insisted again so I told her a story about the movie, trading places that correlated to me and she said that was fine. Everything went downhill from there. Another 30 minutes went by, and they never even came by and took our food order. how nauseatingly inappropriate! The place wasn't even that busy and we really weren't that loud. Believe me when I say, I have a big mouth and was partying with my friends, but we were not even close to any volume that required attention. My buddy finally said... Let's just get the hell out of here. They obviously don't wanna serve us. So I got my $175 bill for appetizers and cocktails and told the waitress, which it really wasn't her fault, that you just lost out on about $500! I gave my number to her so the actual "manager" would call me and of course they never did because they suck. This place is beyond annoying! There were wasps all over the tables harassing us the whole time we ate. Service was terribly slow. Items were missing from my spicy sandwich. I witnessed a waitress spill aioli on a customer. Trays of food to bring to customers were right next to the women's restroom door. Table next to us got a white claw that has residue all over the rim. It's taken us 20+ minutes to get the check. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. The views are not worth it especially for the price point. read more
