Went to Butcher and Barrel to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. The interior was spacious and nice. After confirming our reservation, we were led to our table. It was a nice surprise to see a hand written "Congratulations and Happy Anniversary" card. A complimentary treat of Focaccia bread with avocado and kimchi was given as well as a glass of champagne for the both of us. Our waiter was helpful, offering his opinion on what wine to take. We went for whatever he suggested for white (for her) and red (for me). Both were good picks. Our dinner started with toasted focaccia bread. She ordered a Caesar salad also. The appetizer was 3 large slices of bread with stracciatella and pear compote. The bread was light and buttery. The stracciatella was good blending well with the bread. The Caesar salad was a big serving. Tasty and simple, nothing special. Our main entree was filet mignon for my wife and wagyu rib eye for me, both medium rare. The filet was topped with garlic confit and I added chimichurri to my ribeye. The plating was simple, the protein with the side and roasted garlic. We also added smashed potatoes to share. Our first bite was the meat itself with no dressing. I can taste why the steak was priced that way. It just melted in my mouth and left a nice smooth aftertaste. We exchanged bites, she felt the same way and I agreed that her filet was perfect. After adding the roasted garlic and chimichurri, the slices were heavenly. The surprise for me was the smashed potatoes. First time trying this dish and I was impressed. The crispness of the skin was a nice surprise. The butter and garlic added another layer of flavor. I sat at the bar and had a blueberry daiquiri. I thought this was a well crafted cocktail and I would easily have a second. For my dinner, I tried the short rib. It was mostly well executed, my only complaint was that the carrots had a little too much bite to them. For dessert I tried the bread pudding; it was ok, but I probably wouldn't order it again. The mushrooms were overcooked. It was pretty, but blah. It took forever for my husband's steak to arrive and it was the smallest 8 ounce steak I e ever seen, but it was good. We came here for our anniversary dinner and everything was great! Staff were super friendly. They made us a super cute anniversary sign for our table too, which was very sweet. Our waitress, Kaytlin, was great. She was nice and attentive. The restaurant is chic and romantic. Other than it being on the louder side, the decor is warm with more dim lighting. What I also noticed and really appreciated is that the tables were spacious and placed farther apart from each other, so you're not crammed with other people. My only complaint is location is on K St, which is hard to find parking and there is no valet. The food was great (details below) and we definitely plan to be back. It was such a nice treat my boyfriend for his birrhday! Staff were so nice and brought out a celebration ice cream plate and a candle! It was also busy during dinner, but the staff were attentive and quick! The location is a little tucked away on K St close to DoCo, but we were still able to find street parking. The atmosphere is more casual than I typically expect for a steak house, so I was completely blown away when the quality of the food and drinks were on par with some of the best steakhouses I've ever been to! We had heard good things, but they exceeded expectations! The short rib croquets we ordered for appetizers were hearty and delicious. We also had the Cesar salad which was good. My mother-in-law and I ordered separate entrees - the lamb lollipops and the braised short rib. Of course, the star of the show was the 50 oz. Tomahawk Wagyu steak that my husband split with his sister and her husband. The menu says feeds two, but it fed three easily. It could probably stretch even further if you order the right sides. I got to taste it, and it was the highlight of the dinner. Tender, flavorful, and delicious! I definitely think we'll be back for future special occasions. The desserts were a nice way to cap off the night! We were so full that we didn't need them, but my husband got a complimentary dessert for his birthday. First the atmosphere is incredible dim lights, colorful it feels like an amazing fine dining experience. We tried out a couple of the menu items and none of them disappointed. Went here for the second year in a row for their dine downtown menu. This was my top/most favorite place I tried last year and this year is still the same. We were recommended to make reservations for lunch so I did on a Thursday. It was not busy when we got here for lunch, so it was great. The place looks huge when it's empty and it was nice and quiet for lunch. My coworkers and I all opted for the DD menu. We all got the steak bites appetizers to start, and they got the steak entree while I did butter chicken for variety and so we can all try the full menu. I preferred the steak over the chicken, but the chicken was not bad at all. In fact, it was really juicy and moist, but the steak had more flavor. For dessert, I got the orange Pana Cotta and the coworker got the bread pudding. Both were really good, but I liked the Panna Cotta more. Our server was great and attentive as well. Met friends here for Dine Downtown and sat at the bar for happy hour while we waited. Happy Hour is only served at the bar fortunately there are two bars lol. Although there isn't a huge selection if food or drinks we had the sliders $12 a Nitty's Cider $5 and house wine $7. They were out of house wine so we had Doua which I s normally $15 per glass. Our bartender was friendly and informative. We moved to our table for dinner where Daniel provided excellent service. Between the four of us we sampled everything on the Dine Downtown menu and everything was good. The flank steak was a large portion and surprisingly tender. The cranberry bread pudding was favored over the panna cotta and the appetizers were a toss up. I would really like to come back and try the house burger which sounds delicious for $22. Firstly we had a reservation for 8:15 and unfortunately i was the only person on time, the rest of my party strolled in about 20-30 minutes after me but the host and waitress were all so accommodating and did not have any issue with that at all! She Explained the menu & the questions that we had (which were a lot haha) & never seemed annoyed or bothered. It was about a party of six of us and everyone said she was such a good waitress.. we ordered a little bit of everything we got a steak. A margarita. We had some fries, the spinach dip, I got a tequila flight with additive free tequila. I did want to mention that they carry a lot of additive free alcohol, which I definitely appreciated. Wr also got a salmon plate with mashed potatoes on the side. My grandma was even able to get some hot tea. My dad who is a steak connoisseur said this was one of the best steaks he had in Sacramento. It was seasoned so well and cooked perfectly exactly how he asked, which was medium rare the salmon was just as good, It was flavored so perfectly. It tasted like it just came out of a home cooked kitchen. The chef actually ended up coming from the back and shaking all of our hands and thanking us for dining he also sent out a plate of focaccia bread with mushrooms and some type of gravy sauce on top, which was so divine. The whole staff at Butcher and barrel were so welcoming and nice so I just wanna say good job on that when you can dine somewhere and the food and the service is top-tier that's a place you will go back again. Also, I love the vibe of the place. It gives a really cute laid-back type of ambience, but goes along with where they have the restaurant placed in downtown Sacramento. I feel like the prices were on par with what you will find at this level of a restaurant for everything that we got. There was 6 of us which included alcohol the bill came out to $530 plus tip so we ended up spending around 600 and something dollars total and everyone was happy with that. Visited December 17th..see my receipt as always. I have been wanting to try this place in Sacramento! It's a short walk to DOCO and next to the outdoor skating rink. It's very large inside with 2 full bars and plenty of seating. I could see groups of friends coming in after a game and having some food and drinks. We ordered the fried burrata with focaccia. It was nicely done and the sauce on the plate for dipping was delicious ! It had a hint of spice ( chili oil). The lady bartender was so sweet and she showed us how they make their own special old fashioned! The owner, Kevin, was there and he was very hospitable. You can tell he takes pride in his restaurant! We ordered the coconut shrimp for appetizers. They were OK. He got the New York and it was not edible. It was very fatty and there were pieces you couldn't even chew. I got the filet mignon. It was good, but it was over cooked. I asked for medium well and they didn't have Oscar style, which I did see on the menu online , but I guess they just updated their menu so it wasn't there so that was kind of a bummer because I really wanted Oscar style steak. That shelf space would do far more work stocked with exceptional wines at accessible price points -- you'd sell more, satisfy more guests, and stop leaving people frustrated with the single, limited option available by the glass. We ate at Butcher & Barrel for the first time this past Sunday 7/5/26 and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. We typically prefer Michelin Star restaurants when we go out for a nice dinner but Sacramento is quite limited in this type of restaurant and we really wanted to go out for my husband's birthday. The dry aged ribeye was incredibly delicious and cooked perfectly medium rare! We had caviar and ceviche for starters and both of those were great! I will say that the caviar came with potato chips instead of crackers which I liked but they should really make sure the chips they include are all actually useable for the caviar and the condiments that go with the caviar. Many of the chips were too small to actually use but the caviar was delicious, I'd of happily just eaten it off the spoon Our sides were creamed spinach which I was disappointed with because it had Parmesan cheese on top and I don't like Parmesan cheese! We also had fries that I believe were cooked in beef tallow which I'm not a fan of but ate most of them anyway and our last side was a medley of roasted veggie's which was pretty straight forward and tasty. Here to compliment our experience with B&B on Valentine's Day. We booked on open table, for two. We liked the options for the pre fixed menu. We arrived around 9:25pm, we had a late reservation @9:45pm. We sat at the bar and we were informed that apparently we had booked our dinner at the bar (which we didn't mean to) , the host said she couldn't promise us but if we could wait, we'd have more of a chance to be seated at a table. We took our chances, sat at the bar and had a few glasses of wine by a super kind bartender, we waited about 30 minutes and we were able to get a table. They were so quick to clean up and accommodate those waiting. The food came out quickly after ordering and delicious. Only bummer was they ran out of mashed potatoes, but everything was great. The steaks were cooked to perfection, mushrooms and mac and cheese sides were great. We were really full by the time dessert came but the chocolate mousse was really tasty and airy! ** I really want to highlight our experience with all the staff members, with us coming in so late, and honestly people watching as we sipped our wine, we couldn't help but notice how amazing all the ladies were. Truly. The two bartenders working last night right at the small bar next to the entrance, so friendly and welcoming. They were tired, it had been a long day for the staff I'm sure, but everything single woman who refilled our waters, wine, brought out appetizers and the rest of dinner, bussed the tables next to us, they all did it with a smile. Our server (didn't catch her name) was really kind and helpful. We left full of love, steak, and couldn't stop raving about the feeling of gratitude to visit a restaurant with staff like that. Celebrated my Birthday dinner here and I ordered the steak and bone marrow. I must say the service was outstanding. My server made sure my bone marrow had a lot of marrow since my second order that came in was just mostly the bone. She went back and told the chef to give me a more succulent marrow and didn't charge me for the second bone marrow that barely had anything in it. Atmosphere is very tasteful aesthetically. A very nice atmosphere to dine for a celebration or just a nice date night dinner in downtown Sac. Definitely would take my gf back here for a dinner date if I stop by in the area again. read more
