I was happy to be seated at 10:45am on a Father's Day with absolutely no wait at all! Breakfast ends at 11am and I knew anywhere else would be completely packed around this time! I resisted having the $19 Full breakfast buffet by having these: Whimsical Waffle - $14 Whole wheat Belgian waffle with blueberry Grand Marnier compote,maple syrup, fresh strawberries and candied walnuts. The presentation of this entree was impressive...and whimsical! The waffles were warm and crispy! Everything that came with is was delscious...I didnt even use maple syrup for this! The blueberry compote, the fresh strawberries...OH and the candied walnuts just fitted perfectly! AAAH!!! SO glad I got waffles... Fried Egg Sandwich - $14 Two fried eggs on multi grain bread with bacon, Tillamook sharp cheddar cheese, arugula, and ancho chili aioli, accompanied by market fresh fruit. You can never go wrong with breakfast sammies...this was definielty a tasty and yummy one. I tad bland...but dash a little salt in there and its great. What different from other fried egg sammies I've had is the yolk is hard...so there was no runny yolk that would drip down my fingers after every bite I took! :P I felt this place was kind of pricey. Then again, with great service, and nice atmosphere AND no wait on a Father's Day, I thought it was worth it, on top of REALLY good quality food. Here's a tip though: If you try calling the restaurant NOT during dinner hours it will only take you to their voice mail. On a vacation and this place was the easiest option for breakfast considering we are staying in the Sheraton for SacAnime. Huge mistake. The 7-11 across the street would've been a better option with better service. I had all four kids with me. We walked up the stairs and the hostess station was empty. It only looked to be about 70% full. Five minutes later a hostess made her appearance but told us we'd have to wait for a table despite many being open. When we sat down the menu prices were ridiculous. Mostly $10 and up for alacarte items. The breakfast buffet was $22. Since we attending the convention, we were supposed to get a 15% discount (note the "supposed"). I decided to bite the bullet and just got the buffet for everyone so we could start our day. Huge mistake. We got up to go through the buffet line and almost all the items were gone. The kids scraped together what they could. I started with a small portion of country potatoes and two pieces of sausage. It was hard to keep my fury in check looking at the plate...over $20 for this??? Occassionally a fresh tray would appear to have everyone in the place descend on it and finish it off within minutes. After pushing my way in a few times I got enough to fill my stomach but not enough to justify "meh" quality food at such a price. I also only got one drink refill the entire time. Then the check came. Remember that 15% off I was supposed to get??? They added in an 18% "service fee"!!! Needless to say I didn't leave a tip. Normally I do a good and a bad breakdown. This one is simple. The bad...ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!!! Located on the second floor of the historic Public Market building within the Sheraton Grand Hotel, it offers an eclectic fine dining experience that won't break your pocketbook. Let's start with the food. I had a California-themed burger with avocado and bacon. Oh lord. I had to look around to see if there was anyone having an equally ethereal experience. Sure enough, I could see folks at neighboring tables nodding their heads in satisfaction, and from the looks of the food on the plates before them, I can see why. If you're not already sold, consider that Chef Russell here WON last year's Celebrity Chef Tournament and the reviews of the food from an Oscar-themed Yelp event here were through the roof. Go. Eat. Pbfft, hotel restaurant says it all. We came down for breakfast, which cost an arm and a leg and takes no more effort than pre-cooked bacon, and powdered eggs. The eggs and bacon, is $14... that is one of the cheapest things! The oatmeal and yogurt 'buffet' is $15, while the full buffet is $20. Don't forget you do get a drink with it though... *delayed applause* I wasn't that hungry, so I asked for a bowl of fruit ($7) with only cantaloupe, and the cantaloupe was ripe and tasty. I stole a bite of bacon, again, thin, precooked stuff. The best part of this meal was the miniature condiments honestly. It was majority rules, as I would have never ate here on my own. ProTip, order off the room service kids menu... everything is like $8 and is a regular sized portion. We had chicken tenders and fries and two orders were more than enough for 3 people. We came to enjoy the fabulous deals from the Yelp Eats! event. We were not disappointed. Service - Wonderful. We were the only people in the restaurant for a while, but we felt nothing but welcome and appreciated the whole time we were there. My friend realized she could not eat her entree after they had prepared it with cilantro, and they immediately whisked it away and presented us with something new quickly and with a smile. Food - Appetizers = Yum. Entree = YUM! Dessert = yum. All in all, the food was good, but there were some definite strong points. Apps: 1) Summer Nectarine Salad - So good. Thin slices of juicy nectarine, tender greens, and a goat cheese brulee. That little brulee was one of the best parts of the meal. So delicious. 2) Heirloom Tomato Soup - Equally wonderful. Nice mouthfeel and flavors. Came with a few housemade focaccia croutons that added a great crunch to the soup. Entrees: 1)Pan-Seared Pork Loin - The pork was good, but it was all of the little accoutrements that made this dish for me. It came with some type of large bean that had a slight pork flavor and what I believe was a balsamic vinaigrette reduction. Absolutely wonderful. It also came with some amazing braised greens. All the flavors married perfectly. Very happy camper. 2) Salmon - The salmon was cooked to perfection. It came with a corn-poblano relish and crispy purple potatoes, both which my friend loved. I thought it was good as well, but simply couldn't compare to my entree. Desserts: 1) Trio of creme brulee - Three flavors (strawberry, vanilla and chocolate) Chocolate was the best, followed by vanilla, with strawberry being a distant second. Tasted more like flavored whipped cream to me than creme brulee, but was good nonetheless. Accompanied by a large shortbread cookie. Also good, but nothing too special. 2) Stone Fruit Crumble - Served a la mode. Ice cream was yummy. You could see little specks of vanilla bean in it. This was my first time here and I was definitely not impressed. Parking is in the parking structure but it wasn't too bad cost wise. I did enjoy the food. Good flavors and a good amount. I wouldn't recommend this place for breakfast due to the fact that service was terrible (we were one of two tables) and to pay it took 20 minutes and we still need to flag someone down to pay. The prices were pretty ridiculous. For a cup of coffee, it costs $4 (I might as well go to Starbucks). We constantly had to ask for refills on our water as well. Don't go to this place if you want a pleasant experience. It's not good on your pocket, parking is hard to find since its in downtown or you park in the parking structure, and lastly the service is terrible! read more

I came to Morgan's (in the Sheraton Grand) for Sacramento Wine and Dine last week and must say I left satisfied! So it was a 4 course meal that was quite enjoyable! The truffle mac n cheese taster was divine--maybe it's b/c I am a BELIEVER of mac n cheese. Then came the first course, which for me was the asparagus soup. Though not mind blowing, it was fresh and the color vibrant. Now the ribeye steak is what took me HOME!!! =D I asked for miuem rare and it was cooked a bit more than i would've preferred, BUT GOODNESS it was still such a delicious steak!!! GOODNESS!!! The garnishes that came w/ it complimented it perfectly as well =D Lastly came the chocolate mousse, which I didn't really care for... but that's b/c I'm not a chocolate kinda guy. OH YEA, did I mention each course came w/ a wine pairing?!?! SCOREEEE =D ha ha ha ha I can still taste that ribeye... goodness. THANK YOU MORGAN'S!!! The restaurant is on the highest level of the atrium when you walk in and it's a decent space. Booths and tables to accommodate couples to large groups. Let me start by saying the service was stellar. Our server was really patient, answered all of our questions, and checked on us often without hovering. Since my girlfriend and I went here for the Yelp Eats event, we stuck primarily to that menu-- our only digression being the asparagus, which was a great decision. Our appetizers were hit or miss (mostly hit). The sweet potato soup was overwhelmingly 'pumpkin-esque,' but my spinach salad was great. I scarfed it down in less than 5 minutes. Do yourself a favor and order their asparagus. Trust me, it is definitely worth it. We both ordered the pork tenderloin as an entree. It had a unique flavor, but the rice was the real show stealer on my plate. We ordered cheesecake to go, and that turned out to be a pretty smart choice as well. All in all, the food was pretty darn good, but the restaurant can be a bit pricey (thank God for Yelp Eats). It does warrant a second trip, in my book. read more

He was heard complaining about being "fucking stiffed" with a small tip after going through the trouble of splitting our bill. We just had a long day at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium for both of my daughters' competitive cheerleading competition. Although it was fun watching them perform for their respective teams, my ears were starting to get a little numb from the loud music with the bass turned up. Other than hot dogs, nachos, chips, sodas, pretzels, cookies, protein bars, Cheez-Its,....,we really didn't eat much the whole day. It was 7PM when the event was over, and most of the restaurants near the Auditorium had crowds already waiting outside, waiting to be seated. Along with our family, we had 3 other families who wanted to join us for dinner. The wait to seat all 11 of us can be long. Someone suggested dining at one of the restaurants in the Grand Sheraton a few blocks down, and we all agreed. We had no problems getting seating for 11 of us as the restaurant was not full. The girls had their own table so they can chat away, while the adults had their own. The restaurant is very spacious, with high ceilings. There any loud noise was quickly dissipated throughout the entire restaurant, which us adults really appreciated after 8 hours of loud cheer music. Service was very efficient, and the food came out reasonably quick. They do have a kids menu, and most of the girls ordered pasta, with sauce choices of marinara, alfredo, or butter and cheese. The pasta looked like it was freshly made in house. I took a bite of one my daughters' pasta, and it was cooked perfectly al dente. The adults ordered the following: -Caesar salad: hearts of romaine lettuce topped with a house olive oil poached anchovy, roasted tomatoes, shaved pecorino, and foccacia croutons. A very attractive salad, and the dressing nicely coated the lettuce, and had a nice little bite to it. -Dungeness Crab Salad: crab with butter leaf lettuce, creme fraiche, red grapefruit, and avocado. Most had this, and they seemed to be very satisfied with this salad. -Truffled mac and cheese. One of the parents ordered this. I didn't know this person well enough to poke my fork into her bowl, but she was quite pleased with this dish. -Butternut squash soup. Can't comment, but my wife like it. -Braised Short Rib: I was in a beef mood so I had this. The short rib was deboned, served with braised carrots, turnips, potatoes, and onions. The meat was very tender, and I didn't need a knife to pull it apart. This was all topped with a red-wine glaze. The glaze was a bit on the salty side for my taste, but overall it was still very good. We all still pretty tired from the long day, and some of us had to head back to the SF Bay Area, so we didn't make it for dessert. Thank you Yelp Eats for introducing me to Morgan's and providing me with one of the best dinners I've had in a LONG time! I went with the lovely Alex L and his beautiful betrothed Diane to check out their Yelp Eats deals (http://www.yelp.com/events/sacramento-yelp-eats if you want to see them for yourself). First of all, I would have never expected that the Sheraton Grand would be so classy and refined! The moment I walked into the historical, Julia Morgan-designed building I was floored. The ceilings are sky high and there's tons of natural lighting flooding the place. We made our way upstairs to the restaurant, where the fun began.... We asked for the Yelp Eats menu and were happy to see that some of their most enticing items were featured at a 50% discount (if you buy two or more courses). I went with the Asian pear salad, which was probably the best thing I had that night. It was fresh and delicious and topped with an incredible 'goat cheese brulee'... I'd never eaten such a thing before and now, I swear my life is changed! For my entree I veered from the Eats menu to try the sea scallops because they looked just too good to pass up. They came with an amazing Dungeness crab risotto and were topped with a crispy potato and greens salad. Incredible! And ok I know I just said that the pear salad may have been the best thing I ate, but I may need to take that back now that I remember our dessert. Our very helpful server suggested the strawberry rhubarb crumble, and I'm so very glad she did. It takes 12 minutes to prepare but it's so worth it... hot and crumbly and tangy and topped with a cool scoop of ice cream... truly amazing! We also had the creme brulee trio, which I have to admit was not as impressive... it's basically like a neopolitan creme brulee collection, but the classic vanilla was the only one we really liked out of the three. I went there for dinner on Christmas Eve. The food was superior and the service was excellent. I had a spicy tofu and vegetable dish while my companion had an amazing Cobb Salad. They offer more traditional fair if you like; chicken, steak, salmon, etc. The cocktails were superbly made. The ambiance in the Sheraton Grand is grand. I have only one complaint. They keep this place a secret for dinner. I had trouble finding it online . I think mostly only hotel guests eat there. I suggest you give it a try. I will be going back. Sigh. So promising - the yelp event they catered was filled with yumminess and friendly staffers, but when we ate here on Sunday night it was as though they hated us and wanted everyone out of the place. No one met us as we approached. No friendly banter. She seemed annoyed when I questioned what greens and what fruit were served with a particular item when the menu only mentioned 'greens' and 'stone fruit'. And then on top of the weirdly unpleasant service, the food was totally hit or miss! My soup (supposedly a tomato bisque) was terrible - it was more like a can of spaghetti sauce dumped into a soup bowl. My main course - the risotto - was wonderful. That dish alone equals the two stars. It was also way expensive. $30 for a crummy soup and some risotto. A major disappointment. read more

So, so disappointed by this place. Let me start by saying I would have never dreamed of dining in a hotel restaurant by choice. But when I read the previous (all 4 star) Yelp reviews, combined with the *amazing* looking Dine Around Town menu, I was convinced I should try it. The food was GOOD. Actually, better than I would have anticipated. The service was HORRIBLE. Like, lets just say, if we didn't happen to be dining with another couple I probably would have walked out mid-meal (and if you know me, you know I never leave food on the table!) Went for dinner on Friday at 7pm, and there were only about 3-4 other tables eating. Our server never made eye contact with us, was incredibly short tempered and plain old rude. I don't know what his issue was, but it completely spoiled my dinner. Boyfriend ordered two drinks, neither were up to snuff. I requested a glass of dry chardonnay and was met with the sweetest, most syrupy glass of white I've ever tried. Not kidding. Worst part was, automatic gratuity at 20% meant our server walked away with $50 in his pocket when he couldn't so much be bothered to give us a smile. I will say that the food was good, but there is NO chance we will return or tell any of our friends to return based upon the terrible service we had. read more

It's Dine Downtown week but we didn't plan to make reservations in advance so my 1st and 2nd choice restaurants (Biba and Ella, respectively) were both booked. We decided to try Morgan's based on the special menu posted. Upon arriving at the Sheraton, we valet parked. They offer 2 hour free validated parking when dining at the restaurant. As parking in downtown can be tough, this was a plus. We were greeted and seated promptly. The service started with some "amuse bouche" of citrus marinated olives and nice warm bread that comes with three different types of spreads including whipped garlic butter, regular butter, and a tapenade. For the first course, the heirloom squash bisque and the harvest pear salad were both excellent. The bisque was topped with cinnamon brioche croutons and drizzled with brandied honey. It had a creamy consistency and tasted sweet as expected of a butternut squash soup. The standout for me was the salad. It was a mix of arugula and chiffonade radicchio in a burnt honey vinaigrette topped with thinly sliced pear, slivers of crispy roasted almonds, and a goat cheese brûlée. I want the recipe for that dressing. Every single ingredient in the salad complimented each other and were brought together by the vinaigrette. If that was all I ate, I would have given the restaurant 5 stars. I chose the seared salmon fillet in a tarragon mustard cream served on a bed of red quinoa, along with small chunks of tender butternut squash and braised greens as my entree. I loved the sides. I could have made a vegetarian meal out of those three elements. The salmon was still good, but a bit overcooked. The tarragon mustard cream sauce helped me overlook the dryness of the salmon. I had a bite of my better half's spice rubbed pork tenderloin. It was very flavorful, but like the salmon, it was overcooked and a bit dry. If we had stopped eating right here, I would have given the restaurant 4 stars. I had high expectations for the desserts based on the descriptions on the menu. We ordered both the Pralines & Cream cheesecake and the Quince and Apple crumble. The cheesecake itself was just ok. The saving grace was the Grand Marnier Cranberry compote that accompanied the cheesecake. As for the crumble, it was the biggest disappointment of the evening. The quince and apple were not baked long enough for the flavors to meld. The apple was still "al dente". The "caramel" ice cream on the crumble wasn't really caramel ice cream. It was just vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of caramel sauce. Unfortunately, the last impression of the meal wasn't a good one, so I have to take away another star. Service = flawless and friendly Food = decent Ambience = felt like I was eating in a hangar Appetizer of shrimp was perfect - good blend of sauce and breading to make the appetizer appealing enough yet not sit so heavy that it was gross. Main course was deconstructed lasagna. At first I was like, "oh hell no am I paying this much for a small ass piece of food..." That came back to bite me. It was a shallow bowl that held the layers of lasagna that was so rich and flavorful I was full halfway through. Definitely my favorite dish. I wasn't too thrilled with the overall ambiance because it was so drafty and cold. Plus, there was a 10 year high school reunion going on in the foyer that was echoing throughout the entire hotel and then wafting up to the second floor where the restaurant is. Just overall noisy. Plus, it's such a high ceiling that everything echoed. It was a cacophony I didn't want during my meal. Finally, I love cold air when the day is 90+ outside, but I actually ended up freezing because the air was circulating so fast and I was not sitting under a vent! We ate dinner on a Wednesday evening. We selected this restaurant as it was convenient during our stay at the Sheraton. Honestly, we were not sure this was a restaurant when we asked the bartender where to eat. We had to seat ourselves, but our server came quickly and was very friendly. Chicken Noodle soup was homemade and amazing. Salmon burger tasted great, interesting combinations of flavors without overpowering. Very fresh cobb salad with generous varieties of fresh ingredients. I just had the breakfast buffet ($18), and was very disappointed. There were no omelets, and the only egg option was very boring scrambled eggs. For $18, you should at least be able to get some cheese in the eggs, if not an omelet station or some other variation. (Admittedly, there was also scrambled eggs with some sausage chunks in it, but since there was a platter of sausage anyway, it hardly counts as a second option.) There were a few kinds of bread -- but no bagels or English muffins. The fruit was good, as was the orange juice, and it was nice that they had non-fat milk, along with 2% and regular. They did have some normal choices (4 kinds of dry cereal, oatmeal, French toast, bacon & sausage), but that's it. Nothing interesting. The service was good, but unless you have to eat in the hotel for some reason, you can do far better. read more

I came here with my boyfriend to use a gift certificate I bought from restaurants.com (paid $3 for a $25 gift certificate!!! :)). Its gorgeous decor and luminous lights made it very attractive. The restaurant is set inside atrium and lit up by candlelight in the evenings to make a great spot for a romantic date. The downstairs is also great for large groups to grab a few drinks and lounge around the nice couches in a really classy but yet casual environment. The price range for dinner is about $20-40, with a variety of seafood, steak, and pork chops. I ordered the pan-seared scallops with risotto and my boyfriend ordered the grilled salmon with mushrooms and crispy potatoes. I was under the impression that portions were going to be really small since it's such a nice restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised that the portions were HUGE. My scallop dish was P E R F E C T. ... the scallops were cooked to perfection and the risotto was moist and complemented the scallops really well. The salmon dish was very vibrant with color as there were wild mushrooms, green veggies, tomatoes and some sort of sweet sauce. I wasn't too fond of the salmon dish, I felt like it was too "busy" and it ranged from sweet, to bitter, and for lack of a better word, "wild". The wild mushrooms overpowered the dish and the entire dish tasted "wild", haha. The salmon was cooked really well though. My boyfriend enjoyed it, I wasn't a huge fan. But my scallops were deliciouso.. i can't complain about my dish! read more

The food was good but the service wasn't. We had to ask three different people for a menu before our server finally came over to bring one. After we ordered, she brought our drinks over and then ignored us again. After some time had passed we asked about our food and one person was served but not the other. When a few more minutes went by we asked again where the rest of the food was and the server said that the first person was served by accident - that it was actually another guests order and that we still had to wait for the second dish. By that time we asked for the check...took a long time as well. After we had paid and were getting ready to leave they brought the second meal over and adjusted the check. It was nice of them to adjust the check but to bring someones food out after they have paid looks really bad. And also saying that you were served another guests meal. I stayed at the Sheraton last week and ate here during my stay. Service was really good. They just changed their menu and I had their strawberry salad, which was really good, their potato and celery soup, and their Risotto with mushrooms, carrots, sweet pea, and Fava beans with a Habenero oil. OMG the risotto was so amazingly good. Literally the best Risotto I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot of risotto. They also offer a 3 item menu for $33 for either a soup or salad, and entree and dessert, a great deal if you want to order off that menu. I'd eat here again. read more
