My husband and went to this restaurant for the first time and not only were we given snooty looks like we were not welcome, but we also had terrible service where we were not checked on nor was our order taken for at least 3p minutes after being seated. We walked out. Do not go to this restaurant if you want to be treated decently. Paying customers and yet they dont care. The manager doesn't even care when we complained to him, he makes up stories of why we are wrong and he is right. They need to fire everyone and start new. read more

The overall restaurant from the outside looks really cool because it's an actual boat on the water so a nice aesthetic. The inside was pretty cool but had a weird temperature but wasn't that much a bother. If it wasn't for the service though I wouldn't be putting a five star review Kathryn was our server and she was absolutely amazing probably one of the best servers I've had in a long time. We've been to this restaurant many times before and the last time it was on Valentine's Day. The only meat that was offered for that day was the fillet mignon. We found the meat small and very very dry and bland. Along with it was mashed potatoes and broccollini . The service was slow, the ambiance was just okay and the service was just okay--until we got the bill. $90 per person for a small amount of mashed potatoes, small amount of brocollini and small piece of dry and bland meat. It was ridiculous. That was the most irritating part of the dinner, the food, the cost and the OK service. We had asked one of the girls who was at the front standing around to please take a picture and her response was, " hold on a second" while she went over and had a conversation with a coworker. I was just thinking that it takes less that 60 seconds to take a picture! She comes back and says, "sorry we're really busy", takes the phone and snaps the pictures and doesn't make the effort to take a good picture. I get that you're working on Valentine's Day and it sucks, I've had to work them before too and the one time we get to go out and get all dressed up and celebrate Valentines Day, we get stuck with not only a terrible dinner but a terrible picture. read more

Everything happens sooooo slow here. Came here for brunch on a weekday and it was really quiet. Stood at the entrance for a few minutes while servers kept walking in and out, ignoring us. My friend and I wanted to sit outside (which is why we chose this restaurant), but they said it wasn't open. I'm not sure if they only open the patio on weekends, or what the reason was, but it was such a lovely day outside that we were disappointed. Food was just okay. The smoke salmon with scrambled eggs tasted fishy. The house made muffin that day was blueberry, and it was pretty good. Moist and not overly sweet. I got the French toast with sausage...tasted like the typical French toast. Wish I had a better experience here, but eh. Nothing stood out and I probably won't be coming back. read more

Great place for a date night or taking someone you are hoping to land in the sack. Cause lets face it, you dont spend that much money on someone(other then a family members who did you a BIG favor...like birthing you) who isn't going to put a smile on that face, if ya know what I mean. ;) All jokes aside the ambiance is something to remember. The old boat and the heavy wooden doors make you feel like you are apart of history, which was the main charm for me. If memory serves me correctly, there were ten or so entrees to choose from, and since I had no intention of being a complete brat and ordering something on the pricy side, I stuck with the salmon with mushroom risotto and a glass of merlot. Price tag-$22(not including wine) When dinner arrived, I picked up my fork and dug in. The salmon was perfectly cooked. It had a perfectly crisp sear on the top and flavorful throughout. The caper sauce on top was absolutley delicious and the rissoto pulled it all together. I would say it is worth the price tag, even if I wasnt the one footing the bill. Another reason why this place is tops for a date night is the fact that our reservations were at 8:30pm and we were there till 11:30pm chatting up a storm. We were the last ones in there and when this became apparent to me, I suggested we leave. One of the waiters over heard and told me there was no rush and we were welcome to stay as long as we would like while they set up the tables for tomorrows breakfast. This was very nice of them and added to the friendly feel of the place. Collectivly, I wouldn't wait for the next time a guy wants to take me on a date to dine here. My family came out from the East Coast to visit me, so I thought that a this would be a beautiful and special place to take them for lunch. They take reservations, after all. It was a sunny day, and the Delta King was wonderfully air conditioned. Classic appointments and ambience were welcoming. We were seated immediately - it being lunch on a Wednesday, they were not crowded. In fact, there were only 4 other tables with customers. We were seated at the window, delta-side. Waitress was prompt, took our orders and got us beverages. Things went downhill from there. After a 40 minute wait, we finally got our food. Two of us ordered the Delta King chopped salad. They arrived without avocado ( as listed on the menu). My salad had minimal chicken (possibly 2ounces), the equivalent of one piece of bacon, and a stingy sprinkle of gorgonzola. The hard boiled egg yolk was half green - way overcooked. Two of us ordered the chicken sandwich with pear. One without mayo or vegetables. Both arrived with all toppings, but one with French fries, one with a corn and bean mixture. We were told that the corn- bean mix is their standard side. Nobody had ordered fries, so we were unsure why we got them. I asked for bread and the waitress said she'd bring bread and butter. We got luscious warm bread (seriously, this bread was delicious) with a side of olive oil and balsamic. The oil was rancid. ( I assumed that the waitress didn't realize that butter was not available when she offered to get it.) My boyfriend's diet cola was refilled with iced tea. We asked for the manager to advise on all the missteps, and were given 50% off the price of the salads. The interaction with the manager was a little intimidating - he's a big guy, and his response was more annoyed than apologetic. No assurances were made about meeting with the staff to make sure it won't happen again. We got our bill...rather, bills. The waitress gave us 4 separate checks. Unasked for. We told her that we had planned on splitting it 2 ways, so she returned with 2 checks. Again, unasked for. As we left the restaurant, another table had bread and a cute little bowl of butter balls.... TL; dr Great view, delicious bread and lovely decor don't make up for too many mistakes, rancid olive oil, and overcooked boiled eggs. Won't be back. read more

I had a bad feeling about this place when my friend said he felt like eating here. I did now know however that it would be one of the worst dining experiences of my life. We went on a Sunday evening and I had said I wanted to eat somewhere in Old Sac, so I suppose I am partially to blame. I am a fan of Rio City Cafe and Joe's Crab Shack every blue moon, so I was open to trying something different in that small area--but, again, I had a very bad feeling. When we arrived, I insisted on checking the menu out first. Nothing really appealed to me, so I asked the hostess to "be honest with me" and tell me what her unbiased opinion of the food is. When she said "pretty good", what I actually heard was "passable". I would have been able to live with passable! We ordered the cheese plate first. About 30 minutes later (I kid you not), our cheese finally arrived... A small piece of delicious brie, slices of parmesan, the most sour, pungent blue cheese I've ever had, with honeycomb and dried fruit. The brie ended up being the best thing I ate that night. Sad. In order to distract ourselves, my friend and I engaged in conversation sipping a little bit of Cabernet. Before we knew, we realized it was 45min to an hour and we wee still waiting for our sandwiches! We made their staff aware of this several times, hardly believing their efforts to pacify us. A chicken sandwich and love beef burger does NOT take an hour to make. Annoyed but not surprised face. Once our food finally arrive, 1) I had no appetite, and 2) It looked cheap and stale. Just writing this review and remembering the look of my sandwich still shocks me. To satisfy my friend instead of sitting there complaining (more), I took a few bites. Cheap, gross, stale. The manager snapped a little bit of an attitude when I told him about my sandwich, then tried to redeem himself by offering me dessert for free. What in the world would make him think waiting another 45min for more stale food would suffice? Needless to say, I won't be back. I was a little late in making a reservation for Mother's Day this year and the Pilothouse Restaurant was able to accommodate us, even with a few last minute additions to our party for their Mother's Day champagne brunch. I love that there are smaller rooms that are all semi private. It was quiet enough to visit and we didn't feel rushed whatsoever in spite of what was a very busy day for them. The food was amazing, they had a carving station, oysters & shrimp and literally everything else you could think of for a brunch menu. The champagne wasn't a cheap bottle, it was good and we definitely took advantage of their bottomless mimosas. We are so thankful they were able to accommodate us and we look forward to making it a yearly tradition! read more

We held our office Christmas party here Friday, and couldn't have asked for a better venue. While I could have done without the full valet lot (!!!) and ankle-deep puddles and cobblestone walk wreaking havoc on my feet, Old Town's Christmas spirit and a view of the river glinting in the city lights quickly dispelled my ambivalence. The highlight of the evening was, without doubt, our waiter. With a ratio of 20 guests to one waiter doubling as a sommelier, you'd think the evening would be plagued by hiccups in service. Not close. This guy was on a roll: no wine glass was left un-topped, and every course arrived perfectly timed. We even wore out our welcome by about 45 minutes without a single gripe from staff. This is a stellar spot to throw a party or event, if my own experience was of any indication. Next time, thought. I'll stay overnight to prevent the wet slog back. read more

Well my New Year's Eve plans are ruined. Thanks to the The Delta King and their Pilothouse restaurant. I was notified via email yesterday at 5:30pm that my reservations for tonight were cancelled (even though we made reservations 4 months ago) because we made them through OpenTable. I spoke with the manager last night, and explained that it is our anniversary dinner as well, and he was unapologetic and claimed they had tried to reach us before, however, we never had even one voicemail. Now we have nothing to do unless we want to pay over $155 a person to have dinner at Pilothouse still. How horrible is this place to do that to us the day before our dinner? Picked up childhood friend from SoCal at Sacramento Airport on Tuesday before NYE2010... Whoo-Hoo! You know we were hell-bent on a few days of "Good Times." We stopped off at the Pilothouse Restaurant because I wanted to show off the Delta King, the River, Old Town - just to kick off the visit right. Even though the rains came, we were not disappointed. I was heading us upstairs to the less expensive Bar & Grill, but my spouse hesitated at the door of the downstairs Pilothouse, and since he was buying -- we let him take the lead. I had a large portioned meal of chicken, my friend a huge "dinner" salad, and the spouse tried the pork chops... all three of us were very delighted with the food quality, the presentation and our wine pairings were perfect. Our service was especially nice, as our server was intuitive and attentive, without being bothersome, and so relaxed and casual, everyone was immediately put at ease. The Delta King is a splendid example of days gone by, and we've always thought that it being located in Old Sacramento is a blessing for both. She (King=he?) is a grand old lady, is well taken care of and dining in the lovely style of her era, is a real treat. Big thumbs up -- we will be back. read more

Five of us decided to spend the weekend in Sacramento and get away from San Francisco. I recalled seeing the Delta King on a previous trip through Sacramento so wanted to check it out. We made a reservation for 7pm on Saturday. We were a little late but we were seated immediately. The drinks were great (and I don't even drink!)!! The food was Amazing!! We did not expect it from the 3.5 stars! Every dish we had was excellent from the whipped seasoned butter to the side dish of fresh seasonal veggies to the meats. Oh my. We were all very happy and satisfied with our food choices. Our server, Jamie, was great too. I am sad to see that the restaurant was not busier! I think many people are missing out on this great place. So this place gets 5-stars for ambiance, service, and food. read more

We came here for brunch as a party of 6 adults and 1 child on a Saturday before we did some shopping at the boutiques in old sac. Ambiance - the inside has a cool decor, appreciating the history of the Delta King, with a classy, upscale feel. We sat outside, however, and the furniture was mismatched, lacked table clothes, and uncomfortable. Half of our party was sitting on a bench without a back. It was a gorgeous day outside but I feel like the Pilothouse could really kick it up a notch to allow guests and customers to really enjoy it. Very cool that it's right on the river. Food - I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, which came with a side of breakfast potatoes. What really turned me off was the presentation. The eggs were chopped into tiny little crumbles and the salmon was mashed in with it. Smoked salmon can be beautiful but this was anything but. The flavor was mediocre. Lacked seasoning on the eggs and I would have preferred the salmon were not mixed in. My MIL had French toast and seemed to enjoy it. I didn't ask too much about anyone else's food because to me it all looked very poor. Service - Nice people, but overall not great service. One member of our party ordered the quiche special, which arrived 10 minutes after everyone else's plates! Especially considering that most of us had sides of eggs, food is cold cold cold by that time. They apologized, but offered no compensation for this issue. On the upside, they did accommodate our bottomless mimosas by leaving a bottle of chilled champagne at the table. I was not drinking, though, so when my water ran out I was SOL, as they never came by with a pitcher to refill. Prices - fine, $11-13/plate. I really wanted it to be better. Really 3.5 stars. The history of the Delta King adds a very charming, quant aspect to this otherwise mediocre restaurant. It has "Old Sac" written all over it. The location: 5 stars. Beautiful view of the Sacramento River and it is always fun to sit outside above the water on a nice day. On a more cloudy, cold day, it is still great because of the enclosed patio and heat lamps, making an "always freezing" girl like me surprisingly comfortable. Service: Hit or miss; I have been here for happy hour dates and it was great, very attentive. But I have eaten several lunches with friends as well, and it took forever to get a water refill or order our food. Minus 1/2 star. Food: Just ok. Cheese platter and drinks are ok, I was not that fond of the sandwiches. Minus 1 star They have fun live bands playing if you go on the right night, definitely adds to the atmosphere. Went there for valentines dinner (2/14/16) Only thing available was a valentine pre-selected menu with 2 different things to pick for for each of the 3 courses. She got salad. I got soup. Soup was very bland, salad was "ok" We both got the fillet mignon for entre. While it was cooked great, it was very bland. Luckily there was salt and pepper on table to help with that. For dessert we both got the chocolate cake with ice cream. It was good, but small. Server was alright.. Wine was great but kinda pricey. Valentines menu did not list pricing for the food, so we were surprised to end up with a +210 bill. We've been there before for regular dinners and never paid that much, so you could say it was very over priced and not worth it for what we got. Doubt we would go there again. read more

I love the delightful combination of water, friends, a summer night, and live entertainment. Well, it turns out you can get all that - plus food and drinks - at the PilotHouse. I've been to the PilotHouse many times. The food is generally good. But please note that I limit myself to beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and seafood. I haven't tried any tofu and veggie-based food-like products. Their steak is excellent. Seafood is awesome. I've never been disappointed. If you just want drinks, it's pretty easy to find a seat outside on the deck, overlooking the water. It's very relaxing and delightful. read more

Friends treated my wife and I to dinner and asked where we wanted to go. I made the mistake of saying The Pilothouse. I have lived here for 25 years and have always wanted to try this place based on the reputation, and the location. I had higher expectations from a restaurants whose dinner entrees average $29 each. I won't spend too much time explaining ALL the things that went wrong. But first, let me say I wish we had eaten upstairs at the Delta Bar and Grille. Its the same menu, and Jacob the bartender was awesome. He was friendly and engaged in great conversation while we waited for the dining room to have a window table open. We were told it would be about a 20 min. wait and they would come get us. After an hour we gave up and Jacob went down to the dining room and came back saying they would be right up to get us. Now seated in the dining room next to the window (beautiful view), we were greeted by our somewhat unfriendly waiter. Had a few issues with the menu; Like it was totally different that what is on the website. Also didn't have any specials left (at 6:30 on a Sat. night). I had wanted their Seafood Linguini that I saw on the website dinner menu but It was not on the menu we were handed. Apparently the website menus are not current. My wife ordered the Rosemary chicken dish with risotto and veggies. My friend and I both ordered burgers since they didn't have the seafood dish I wanted. She got chicken with mashed potatoes. Waiter told us they didn't have risotto and complained that management was supposed to change the menus they handed out so we would know the dish came with mashed potatoes. Waiter was able to swap the potatoes for veggies. I ate 1/2 my friends well done burger and he ate 1/2 my medium one before we realized he put our burgers down in front of the wrong guests. How hard is it for a waiter to get an order right? NOT Hard!!! Good servers do it all day and night. I was embarrassed having chosen this place. The ambiance was great! The boat and the old bar and cool vibes, they had live music playing and the guy was great. The crowd was a little questionable for me, rude and not very friendly. The staff was so so, one of the ladies was polite but didn't have much personality and never smiled and the gentleman had almost enough energy for him and the other lady. It was cool, not what we had envisioned for date night and we were hoping for somewhere a little more alive. The food was meh. No appetizers because we had apps at a bar downtown a couple hours prior. I got the Kobe burger the server was raving about, saying it was the best in Old Sac, and my girlfriend got the braised short rib fettuccine and both were fine. The fettuccine tasted exclusively like mushrooms, absolutely nothing else. It was almost overpowering how much of a earthy dirt mushroom taste when I tried it. And the burger was fine, it was a burger, not much you can really mess up on. But it was just okay, it wasn't great and nothing I'd remember if I wanted a good burger around there. I could go to In-n-Out and get a burger of that level for a very small fraction of the cost of that one. The fries however were very good, exactly how I like them, thick cut and lightly salted. The drinks weren't bad, better than some of the bars around but nothing to write home about. And when we got in, I was hopeful for a bread basket because there were plates and knives set up on the table like normal if you got a bread basket, but we weren't offered a bread basket until thirty minutes after we had been seated and out food came out exactly as the bread did. That was disappointing. For the money we paid, I was extremely disappointed with everything. Not saying I'll never give it another shot, maybe it was just an off day for them, but definitely very disappointed and I won't be recommending this place to anyone. read more

Made reservations for 7:30 on a Friday night and the place was relatively quiet. Not as packed as I assumed it was going to be. Parking wasn't really a hassle for us, you pay until 8 (1.25 an hour), but I can see how this would be more difficult if it was the day time. My boyfriend and I arrived at 7:30 on the dot and were greeted by friendly staff. You have the option of eating on the bottom level--white table cloth or you can eat on the second level where they allow you to choose from the "fancier" menu or the "cheaper menu". Not a big difference in menus in my opinion, just a couple more fancier entrees on the nicer menu. It's more of the filet mignon type menu compared to the fish and chips and hamburger menu. The booths on the top are a bit awkward, definitely made more so for big groups, but it's not something to really gripe about. Our waitress was nice. Friendly, but not overly attending to us which was nice with how empty the place was. We ordered crab cakes, fish and chips, and clam chowder. Honestly the food we had was amazing. I don't give places 5 stars unless I have some amazing experience, but the food was amazing. The crab cakes were expensive unfortunately (14 dollars for 2 pieces), but man it was definitely worth it for a night out. Overall not too expensive for the two of us, but we really enjoyed it. Walk around old sac, see some of the fun little stores and if it's light enough take some photos of the trains right outside! read more

The food here is definitely worth the buck! The boyfriend took me here before I had to head back to San Diego and this was the perfect pick! We ordered the Dungeness Crab Cakes and they were scrumptious, but tiny. Fortunately, our entrees weren't as tiny! I ordered the Pork Chops and was not disappointed! I was deciding between this and the Seafood Spaghetti, I'm glad I got the Pork Chops but will definitely return for the Seafood Spaghetti. The boyfriend ordered the Rib Eye Steak (he was afraid the Petit Filet Mignon would be too petite haha). His steak was cooked perrrrfectly! Add a couple cups of wine and the bill came out to be pretty heavy for a party of two but it was all worth it. What can be more romantic than eating on a riverboat overlooking the Sacramento River and then walking through Old Sacramento afterwards? I felt like I was on Titanic (okay, a little overexaggeration). There was a grand staircase, the table set and chairs were all made of fine, dark wood (sorry, I don't know much about furniture lol) and the music was very classy. Our server was as courteous as we expected and didn't mind finding us a table next to the window with a view. Definitely give this place a try! read more

A special occasion with special guests from out of town wanting to do the whole "Tourist Thing," led to us reserving a lunch date at the Pilothouse aboard the Delta King in Old Sacramento. What a great way to spend lunch, with a river view in the dining room aboard a converted paddlewheeler? This review is for a party of four, two couples, for lunch on a Wednesday in midsummer. Prices are spendy, $$/$$$ for relatively average fare; you are paying for "location and decor," as much as "food." And "rent" apparently; although the restaurant was barely 1/4 full, we were seated quickly, but left unattended for well over 10 minutes before our waitron came to take orders for drinks--fortunately we were also ready with meal orders, since we'd had all that time. (If you don't think 10 minutes is a long time, just sit down and time it.) Service was friendly and terribly slow. Having placed our orders, it was a full 30 minutes before we were served our meals; even the water we asked for (this being California) was quite some time to arrive. My diet cola arrived in good time, but then was mysteriously replaced with iced tea when I asked for a refill. These things happen, no big deal, right? I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich on Ciabatta; it was delicious, but came with a side of corn/bean sweet salad I had not asked for, or been given an option for. My friend across from me got the same sandwich with a side of fries. Which he hadn't asked for or been given an option. He'd also asked for it "no mayo, no tomato, no greens," and of that request, only the "no mayo" part was observed. He just sighed and picked off the offending vegetation. The ladies both ordered the Delta Chop Salad, with avocado, chicken and bacon. Only one of them got any bacon, neither of them got much chicken, and both received zero avocado. Upon asking our waitron, we were told that salad doesn't come with avocado. Moments later the Manager told us it did come with avocado, but they were "either out of avocado or they didn't put any on." Ok, sure. That explains it. But it didn't explain the near absence of bacon on the one salad, and the abundance of bacon on the other. The Manager comped half of both salads--an acceptable mea culpa--but over all the entire experience left an unhappy taste in our mouths. Although my sandwich was delicious and the Manager amenable, I simply can't give the Pilothouse Restaurant more than 2 stars. And we won't be back any time soon. read more

Went here with a travelzoo coupon yesterday and my husband had diarrhea that night, we shared both our foods except for his roasted chicken entree so were thinking it might be it because he said it didn't look fully cooked. Service: Got a bad service from our server Alice, I think the attitude is because we have a coupon because she was very attentive, polite and having a nice conversation with the group beside us who doesn't have a coupon from travelzoo. She was in a Hury to take our orders as soon as we sat down, didn't hear her introduce herself (her bane was on the bill and that's how we found out her name), didn't even ask how our food was, no refill on the bread plate, takes our plates without saying anything.. The worst service experience ever!!! Although the old man serving the other tables was really really nice so I guess its just her. Ambiance: small,cozy but music not loud enough to stage the romantic setting. Food: Clam chowder soup-big uneven chunks of potato, can't taste the clams because there's rarely any clams in it. Flatbread-good Roasted chicken-bland, not fully cooked & dry. Steak-ordered it medium well and it turned out pretty good except it's a little dry. Tiramisu- very good Fruit tart- good but hard All in all, I'm glad we didn't pay the full price, definitely not going back there again. read more

Had a great experience dining here! I brought my boyfriend here for dinner for his birthday and we truly enjoyed everything, the service, the food, and the view. My husband and I wanted to eat here on Christmas Day. We did not have a reservation so we took a chance. We went to the desk and a very sweet young lady greeted us and said we could be seated. We told her we would like to discuss. We came back 2 minutes later and another man with a beard greeted us not so friendly. He seemed to not even want to be there. After telling him we would like a table, he said "you'll have to wait while we seat the large party with a reservation". Extremely rude. We left and went somewhere else. Customer service really needs to be reviewed with the employees! We have eaten here several times but no more. Also, the area around Old Sac need more security. Came here for a brunch meet-up with my local elegant and gothic Lolita group. We figured this place would make for a great setting for our frilly pretty dresses. Very pretty place indeed. This was my second visit, but first time enjoying their brunch. I opted for their daily quiche offering with fruit and of course, that obligatory brunch beverage, a mimosa. But since they offered it, I drank it sans orange juice. Oh baby.... The quiche was so yummy...I love quiche!. And it comes with a muffin! I love muffins!! (okay so I just love food....whatever!). And the fruit was nice and fresh. Couldn't complain there. My only complaint was I didn't get my drink refilled as often as liked, and even then I had to ask. I guess I'm just so used to my server just pouring the damn bottle down my throat, but whatever, I still got my glass refilled. read more

My m-i-l hosted a birthday lunch for her mother here, in one of the private banquet rooms. The service was quite impressive - there was a banquet organizer at the ready and waitstaff was very professional. All needs were taken care of quickly. The food was decent - not exceptional - but definitely good. We had a choice of steak and chicken (typical banquet type food) and these entrees were tasty. There was a cheese display as appetizers beforehand, which was beautifully arranged and threre was a nice selection of cheese and fruit. My one complaint was that the bread that accompanied the meal was definitely not fresh - stale and dry. For a birthday party for a 90-year-old and her friends and family, this was a perfect location. Valet parking, easy to find, quaint and charming, great service. Not a place for a twentysomething's birthday - too staid - but I'd like to come back for the champagne brunch (going on upstairs) and try them for dinner in the future. read more

Very nice setting. I really do love the Delta King for the atmosphere. The food was just too expensive for what we received. It wasn't horrible, the crab cakes were good, but we only received two, and for $12 you'd expect them to at least be huge...which they were not. The pasta and scallops were good, as well as the half roasted chicken, however the mashed potatoes were on the blan side. Also, for the price they ask for their portions could have been a bit bigger. All around it was nice enough, but I most likely won't go back. If I want to spend $100, (Not including tip), on a four top again, I want to know my food/experience would be well worth it. read more

What a pleasant surprise! Usually when restaurants are connected to hotels they are such a sad sad grease-pot... The Pilothouse is wonderful!! Breakfast is amazing and not to be missed! Bottomless mimosas for cheap! Lunch was also delicious, but breakfast is where they shine!! read more

We went there for breakfast, it was very beautiful and the staff was nice. The coffee was good, and they had half and half and sugar on each table, cute little sugar cubes. I had the crab cake Benedict. It was good, but the poached egg was solid and not runny like it normally should be. There was a small piece of egg shell, which is fine, no biggie. The Benedict itself was more so on the lukewarm side, but tastes great. read more

This was by far one of the best breakfast I have ever had dining out! The most unusual thing was that they have "happy" organic eggs! These are the only type of eggs we consume at home, so to dine out and have organic eggs was way cool! Someone mentioned the bacon being good here, so I ordered it. OMGosh, the bacon was the best I can remember having, perfectly cooked, a light smokey flavor and not to salty. It is is similar to the organic bacon we buy from time to time. The potatoes were wonderfully flavored and not greasy at all, like they were dry roasted? The OJ and Coffee perfect. I commend the waiter on his graciousness. My partner and I stayed on the Delta King this week, and we approached our first dinner at the Pilothouse restaurant with a bit of uncertainty given prior mixed reviews on Yelp. However, we loved our first night's dinner, in fact so much so that we dined there the next night too. The items we were served at these two meals were all outstanding, and the accompanying hot bread was better than any we'd had in quite a while (including pre-COVID times). Service was first rate too. As guests staying on the Delta King we also had three breakfasts at the Pilothouse. Although the breakfast menu is limited, everything we had was first rate. Again service was great too. Even without the river views and historically beautiful dining room, I would have no hesitancy about recommending the Pilothouse. But taking the ambiance into account I am happy to give this restaurant my top rating. read more

Went here for date night last night. Started at the bar upstairs with a gin & peach mojito very tasty! Casual atmosphere and friendly bar staff. Dinner with a TavelZoo coupon what an amazing deal! One appetizer, 2 salads, 2 entrees and 2 desserts all for $50, we scored big time! We chose the cheese flight as our appetizer. 3 different cheeses, a few berries, honey and dried fruit. I would have left the dried apple rings out. Cesar salad was a little strong for my taste. Main course mahi mahi with wasabi potatoes was fantastic! Good portion and nice flavor. My date had the prime rib with creamed spinach. Meat was tender and juicy. Had one bite of the spinach not what I wanted to eat with prime rib, but the mashed potatoes were good. We shared a bottle of 2007 Tavel rose, nice wine selection. Pricey by the glass, but bottles seem like a good deal. For dessert I tried the blueberry cheesecake and my date had the flourless chocolate cake. Go for the chocolate cake, light and scrumptious. I would pass on the cheesecake. Our server Alice was incredibly kind and very attentive. It was the best service we have received in a while especially considering the fact that we had a coupon. Would eat here again! read more

Amazing!! We went here for my sisters birthday and sisters weekend. Our waiter was Marc and Johnathan and they absolutely were the best. We had the Cajun Linguine, Short Ribs, Steak and Salmon. It was all so flavorful and delicious. My favorite was the Linguine but honestly you couldn't go wrong with any of them. Amazing experience and customer service. We stayed at the Delta King one night and were given the free coupons for breakfast. We got to the Pilothouse and were seated quickly. Our server was extremely nice and she's pretty much the reason for the two stars. Plus the fact that it was free. First off, the free meal was regularly about $16. If I had paid $16 for the meal, I would have been pretty mad. The sausage links were cold. The country potatoes were mixed with too many seasonings that just didn't make sense and they were not good at all. The muffin tasted like someone took a dry muffin, deep fried it and then dipped it in sugar. The eggs were actually not bad though. And the coffee was tasty too. But I'm not sure if that was just because it was so cold in the restaurant that I was just grateful for the warmth. But it was free! So that kind of made it better? Just don't get the bed and breakfast meal if you actually have to pay for it. Go to Denny's or maybe pay the extra money to get another meal and it might be tasty? read more

It really bums me out to waste any amount of money on dining out but when it costs me a hundie to learn my lesson, well, I'm not a happy camper. Came here for Mother's Day buffet brunch. Had been here about 3 years ago and it was pretty decent. Now I know why they stopped doing a buffet on Sundays except for special occasions. I know you have to take your chances at a buffet but can usually find about half the items to be tasty. DH and I were actually wondering how you can take so much taste OUT of the food. Peel and eat shrimp...no flavor/mushy......Salmon.....no flavor......bacon..... too chewy.... scrambled eggs....... burnt flavor......... oysters........mediocre........ potatoes..... overcooked.......... I can't even bear to go on. So glad I learned my "buffet" lesson years ago to only take a teaspoon of an item to see if it's palatable. The only couple things I enjoyed were the cheeses and beef was actually cooked pretty rare and had some flavor. Oh, did I mention the champagne was absolutely horrid. BLECH! One star is for the great service and the venue. But I couldn't take $43 from someone for food like that and be able to look at myself in the mirror. read more

I'm about to begin my 29th year as a Sacramento resident and just had my first meal on the Delta King. We had lunch at the Pilothouse and generally enjoyed it - our table ordering a burger, soup, salads, a salmon dish and chicken sandwiches. The fries were a bit disappointing. They arrived in a thick, rectangular home-style-cut and looked delicious. However, they were lukewarm and quite bland. The service was earnest but a little flat. Entrees were slow to materialize and I had to help myself to fresh-ground pepper. All in all, though, I'll return, hopefully before another 29 years elapse. read more
