Absolutely the worst restaurant I've been to. Only nice thing I can say is the server was extremely sweet. I had the Chicken Chesapeake sandwich the crab atop the chicken tasted so bad I couldn't even eat it. Cream of Crab was awful. My 16 yr son ordered ribs and wings. Fries tasted like the oil they cooked in hasn't been changed in a year. He didn't even eat half. So don't waste your time or money. Plenty other restaurant to eat at. read more

After a very cold day of hiking, I came into this very warning and cozy restaurant. The waitress was very kind and loved talking. I got the buffalo chicken sub and it was 9/10. The bun was a little crusty and there wasn't enough ranch or buffalo(easy fix). The beer service was great and the restaurant was very well decorated. I would come here very often if I loves near it. This was our first dinner on vacation, and it definitely started us off on the right foot. The food was superb, we loved the bread, and the drinks, our waitress, Mikalah, was witty and just added to the overall enjoyment of our experience. She was incredibly accommodating when we requested to move tables due to the sun, and also was kind and understanding with our special requests when it came to our food and drink orders. My two friends and I came to eat dinner here on Thursday July 21. Shannon was our server. We had a reservation at 6:30. We each ordered a steak dinner....2 prime rib dishes...one with French fries, one with Lyonnaise potatoes. The other was the oak barrels steak, with Lyonnaise potatoes. One of us ordered a salad with dressing on the side...it came out gushing with dressing, and a side of dr swing. Shannon apologized and went and brought out a new salad without dressing....ok, fine...first problem taken care of. Next, the entrees came out....both of the sides of Lyonniase potatoes were ice cold....again, Shannon took care of the issue...but, it was another issue that should not have even occurred. The side of French fries came out, after the steak dish it was supposed to be with....a third issue...a third kitchen quality control problem. A gentleman, perhaps a manager...he never identified himself....then came over to ask about our meal, and immediately seemed at best perfunctory in his expression of concern about the mishaps. Final straw....we ordered two Apple cobblers for dessert. Both came out Unheated...and were clearly NOT homemade....I have often made apple cobbler at home, and I know what real cobbler of any variety looks like when properly made. The apple mixture in the Pine Lodge clearly came out of a ( likely large food service can), and was skimpily mixed with some kind of an oat mixture. When this was pointed out to the server, one of the desserts was removed from the bill. We were astounded by this meager gesture on the part of the restaurant. Sadly, it was a less than exemplary dining experience. We are grateful to Shannon for her efforts, but feel that much greater oversight and quality control needs to be instituted in the kitchen. The integrity of the restaurant deserves nothing less, the reputation of the owner and employees demands this. The head chef should be ashamed of the dishes which were served to us. We hope that the items in this review will inspire the ownership, management, and entire staff there to make improvements that were clearly apparent. read more

It's sad to see how this place has gone downhill. I've been coming here since it opened and it used to be great. In the past they had two choices of quality for the NY Strip and the high quality was amazing. Now at $32 they only have the lesser quality and they have no clue how to cook it properly. It comes out greyish and mildly warm. They can't even cut the white ends off the asparagus. With high end prices and mediocre food I am afraid it's time to shut this place down. Maybe reopen with top notch chefs or change to Italian or something else. With Dutches and Aces close by there is no reason to give Pine Lodge my business. Times have past this place by. I'm sorry to say because it used to be very good. I am local with a lot of guests and I would never bring my guests here again till things change in a big way. read more

Rated higher than most other restaurants in town, the Steakhouse disappointed. Nothing too exciting. Went there in February. Our waiter provided awful service. Hard to believe, but when we asked to see the dessert tray (that we had spied being toted around by other servers) he rolled his eyes and said irritatedly "I don't have time to find it." Later he found it, but I was already enjoying the best dessert coffee I'd ever had, Cafe a l'Orange, and it was time to get going. Like Dan said in his review, the place is like a chain - only it's not. !? Food was ok, nothing exciting, and I was disappointed overall by the quality and the presentation. We complained to the manager afterwards and he said if we came back to let him know and we'd be taken care of. A) not sure what he meant. B) we're from DC, and unlikely to return. Definitely not a true Steakhouse! Our crab soup was cold. Waited 40 more minutes for entrees. Entrees were mostly cold. Prime rib was really sirloin poorly cooked. Duck I had was about 5 oz instead of 10 oz about 2 bite sizes. Poor service.. Dinner plates never cleared. This is a bar-pub trying to serve over priced steak house menu. This place is awful!! We came only for the crab soup and it is definitely not legendary. Sure it does have big pieces of crab, but it was overly salty and super thick. I'm guessing they just added a bit of milk/cream to their crab dip? And to boot I got food poisoning from it. I'm feeling super nauseous as I write this. I think it may have been left overs and they added the salt to cover up soup that should have been tossed out. It's not a busy restaurant so I don't think they have a lot of turn over on their food. My friend ordered chicken parm which was dry and my other friend ordered a baked potato it came out burnt and also dry. So I can only assume they are just reheating left overs!!! The decor is also very dated, so I wouldn't come here for the ambiance either. Save yourself the trouble and go to McDonald's at least they have standards!! read more

I don't get the people who gave this a bad review, they should really give it a second chance and make sure you get Marla as your server so you'll have an awesome experience. We should have listened to the other reviews, not just about this place, but about restaurants in McHenry. There just aren't any good ones. The only thing keeping me from giving this place one star is the service. We ate here the first night in McHenry, and sat in the bar area. The bartender was very nice. We checked in on Yelp and got a free appetizer so we tried the crap dip. It was pretty good.....lots of Lawry's season salt, but it was fine. For dinner, I had the salmon and he had a steak. His steak was a bit overcooked but edible, and he got the Lyonnaise potatoes which were huge chunks of somewhat raw potatoes and onions in a weird sauce. My salmon was not only overcooked but was very fishy. I know salmon is a full-flavored fish - it's my favorite. But that was not good. I also ordered a side of shrimp scampi....it was cooked ok but the flavorings were not great. It tasted like a bunch of dried seasonings were used so it just didn't taste fresh at all. All it takes is a little fresh parsley, lemon and garlic, people! The best part of my dish was the baked potato, although it tasted like it had been cooking for several hours. Doubt we'll be back if we do return to McHenry. read more

No free bread, thirty dollar menu items with no sides because you have to order them separately a la carte, small portions, and not nearly fancy or tasty enough to boast these prices or portions. Terrible customer service. We were a large party of 13. They split us us up into two tables which I wasn't thrilled about, but we're all pretty easy going so we made it work. We were charged for a drink that was served to us with a DEAD FLY in it. I ordered a steak with bleu cheese crumbles. They forgot to put those on (was still charged for them) a lot of food was brought out cold. After our meal the server brought 1 check for both of our tables. When we asked to have it split he handed us a piece of paper and a pen to write down what we got so he could split it!! After complaining about us having to divide our check A manager then sent him back to basically retake our order so he could ring them in the computer. It took us 45 MINUTES to have our checks sorted and cashed out. Manager just stood there like a useless schmuck and watched rather than helping his staff cash us out. Did not offer us any beverages/ or dessert while we sat there and waited. Managers were blaming things on their staff throughout the whole process. Very poor form, if your serves aren't trained properly it is managements fault! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! read more

I enjoy going here and do go often based on proximity to our place; however, I have been less and less impressed over the last few years. I always eat downstairs in the bar area. The creamy crab soup is hands-down, the best. In my experience, the other food is good but not amazing. Went here Feb 11, 2011, for my birthday One of the worst meals I've ever (attempted) to consume. The New Orleans shrimp was 6 shrimp in ketchup/Cajun spice and butter. The chicken was so dry and hard that I ate two bites. Everything at this restaurant appeared to be microwaved/poured from a bag. NOT worth the money. Ruined my birthday. Next year I'll take my $60 and rent a clown--he would be just as scary as Pine Lodge's food, but would leave me with entertaining pictures. Stick to the staples and you'll be fine. Prime rib, crab cakes and martinis were great. Hollandaise was straight butter, the rockfish special and asparagus were gross. Double check their "gluten free" items on their menu as the ahi tuna had soy sauce which contains gluten. Mediocre food at best. Places like this only survive because of location and lack of better options. read more

Hands down one of my favorite places to eat in Deep Creek. Friendly service, a beautiful restaurant and clean restrooms! Everything is always good! They aren't kidding when they say their crab soup is legendary. Their crab cakes have no filler! The honey pepper salmon is to die for and if you have never tried blue cheese crumbles on your steak, you have to! Whether you are just in for soup and salad or a full course meal you can't go wrong! I'd give it 3.5 stars if possible. Came here with the BF on a weekend trip to the lake, even though the reviews were pretty bad. He'd been there once or twice as a kid and remembered it being OK, I guess the prices just didn't appropriately reflect the quality of the meal. We had a Restaurant.com coupon though, so we were willing to take a leap of faith. I was expecting a kind of upscale steakhouse, but it was very unpretentious and family-friendly looking. Basically, don't expect someone to pull your chair out for you. We got honey wheat bread and honey butter for the table, which was very fresh and delicious. Split mussels for an appetizer, and both of us got some kind of crab-and-steak combination for our meal. They have a couple options for sides (including baked sweet potato, which is what I got) and each entree comes with a side salad. I thought the quality of food was very good and the BF agreed. I probably wouldn't pay full price for it but I'd definitely come back for a nice big meal. Oh, and don't forget to ask for a drink menu. I had their pomegranate sangria and it was great! read more

On our first night of arriving to Deep Creek, we were searching for somewhere for dinner. I come from a family of non-foodies- they eat to live, I live to eat (no surprise I'm adopted!) I was in charge of picking somewhere, since they know I love restaurants. My grandmother said it was her treat, so I wanted to find somewhere nice, but not overly expensive. We pulled into the parking lot since it looked like there were a bunch of random restaurants around. The Pine Lodge steakhouse had a menu outside on a pole-thing that claimed dinner from $12....so I figured they would have reasonably priced items. .....So imagine my horror when we sat down at the table and opened the menu- and found $40 seafood and steaks. Everyone sat silently just flipping the pages back and forth as the items were expensive. I certainly didn't want my 84-year-old Pro-Bono- Attorney-grandmother footing a pricey bill as there were 7 of us. Talk about awkward. After an uncomfortable 10 minutes, we were ready to order.....And everyone ordered salads- I could tell they felt weird about ordering a pricey item. This isn't totally the restaurants fault- but such false advertising on the menu out front! On a positive note, I loved my steak salad, although "medium" came out really rare. A few pieces were so bloody I had to leave them on the plate. Service wasn't that friendly. And the patio that had a beautiful view of the lake was closed for dinner in the middle of August....why?! That's all we were searching for- a view of the lake...but we were herded inside, which was very disappointing. Inside wasn't all that nice- for the prices on the menu I would expect a nicer ambiance. Since I live 1200 miles away and was just here on a trip, I won't be back. And if I did return to Deep Creek again? Still wouldn't go back. read more
