We visited Pine Lodge Steakhouse on Friday afternoon on the way to our weekend vacation rental. There was one other party eating so we received quick and friendly service from our server, Angela. We started off with McHenry Crab Dip to share which was served with fresh warm pita chips and tortilla chips; it was delicious! I picked a quarter rack bbq ribs for my meal and my partner had the Marylander which was a crab cake sandwich. We both loved our food but the fries were just okay. We had a larger group of people meet here for a nice dinner during our trip to the area. Any city we visit, we always look forward to eating at a nice steakhouse. The menu looked great which is what made us chose to eat here. Our waitress was very friendly. Myself and another friend had the honey pepper glazed salmon and it had the best flavor. Six people from our group got steaks, two ribeyes and four filets. All six people said their steaks had no flavor. I myself tried a bite and they were right. It was the most flavorless steak any of us ever had. Alcoholic beverages were over priced as well. For the amount of money that we spent there, it was definitely not worth it. read more

Very nice place! This was our second time there and really enjoyed the pub. Last time was in the restaurant (also nice), but the pub had no wait. First, the appetizers were great! We enjoyed the ahi tuna as well as the crab dip. We would have enjoyed more of the bread crisps that came with the dip - it was THAT good. The ahi was perfectly seared and came with a nice bed of seaweed salad and a drizzle of a sesame based sauce. Yum! Three of us had the "Teaser Salad" - nice pieces of steak on a huge bed of mixed greens. Fresh-made salad dressings were delicious, too. I really liked the lemon vinaigrette. One person had the crab bisque and practically licked the bowl clean. My husband had the fish sandwich and enjoyed it. The only negative was my daughter's boyfriend ordered the shrimp po-boy, and said that the bread was about 2 days past its prime. He was disappointed. Found this place while on a couples getaway the cream of crab soup sign caught my attention. So the Sunday before we left hubby and I had to see how good it was. When we arrived everyone was super friendly Angie our waitress was the best she made sure we got our order taken in a timely fashion and that we were always taken care of while there. It's been about a year since I went to the Pine Lodge as we had a really bad experience in 2015. However, it is clear that the new GM really turned things around. The food was delicious and as promised per the menu. They combined the sides and bread again that presented value for the food. The wait staff especially Macalah and the manager, I think her name was Kristen or Kristy were incredible. They were short handed and still able to meet our every need. Katie was also a very friendly and polite face to welcome us as we came in the door. Overall, this experience turned my option and excited to have one of our favorite places back. We went here our last night on vacation and had the grandchildren with us. Our waitress was very good. She got water for the table and brought bread with delicious honey butter. The grownups had the cream of crab. It did not disappoint. My husband had a salad which he said was very good. The rest of us had beef which was tender and delicious. My only complaint was my tenderloin was ordered medium. It was medium until I got to the thickest part of the steak which was too rare for me.The kids split the chicken tenders. Hello, the 1970's are calling and they want their food back. I don't know how this restaurant received such positive reviews for a steak house but the food we had was just bad. Rarely do restaurant infuriate me with poor food but Pine Lodge sure did, especially when I got the bill. The mushroom caps were not seasoned, under cooked and the crab was very fishy. The Beet Summer Salad was bland and just a huge pile on a small plate that made a mess on the table when you tried to eat it. The kitchen needs to learn how to make a proper vinaigrette. The Lyonnaise Potatoes, PLEEEASE! All I can say is someone in this kitchen needs to learn how to cook!!!! Half raw onions mixed in with fried potato cubes is not the classic Lyonnaise Potatoes. The salmon fillet wasn't too bad but I really couldn't tell. Whose idea was it to pour crab soup on top of a grilled salmon fillet and call it Salmon Oscar? Why drench grilled fish in soup unless you are trying to hide cheap fish? Finally, and the piece de resistance of my irritation. My wife was in the rare mood for some french fries which she ordered. I couldn't believe she was served crinkle cut french fries that were obviously frozen like the Ore-Ida brand that you serve little kids with a PBJ sandwich. A week's vacation at DCL ended with a lovely dinner at Pine Lodge Steakhouse. From the moment we arrived, the overall experience was fantastic. Our server, Willow, provided the kind of service experience one would expect at a five-star restaurant. Our entrees, the crab-stuffed flounder and a rib & crab cake combo, were perfectly prepared. The side dishes were flawless, and Willow was always present for refills without being intrusive. The triple chocolate cake was simply amazing, the perfect ending to a perfect meal. My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner. We had called ahead to make reservations. With it being December, we wanted to get a table next to a fireplace. The woman on the other end was very nice and made the couple notes that it was our anniversary and where we wanted to sit. She also informed us that there was a group party that night but there was no problem. When we arrived there was a sign that said to sit wherever you wanted and that the upstairs dining area was closed (where we had a table reserved). We mentioned to the hostess our reservation - who wasn't really a hostess, she seemed to be doing random work around the gift shop - and she picked up two menus and took us inside the pub/bar area and let us pick a table. Our waitress and the food wasn't bad, but the whole experience was underwhelming and we weren't entirely happy with how everything played out. On the way out we walked up the stairs outside and past the upstairs dining area where the party was (in a separate room) and saw the table we were supposed to have been at, set with two table settings and the glasses flipped up, next to a fireplace. Came here on a Friday night in November to celebrate my boyfriend passing another CPA exam (GO J!) and the place was not crowded at all, didn't even need our reservation. They had a Friday night special that included an appetizer, 2 side salads, and 2 entrees (from a preselected list) for $50! We split spinach artichoke dip, house salads, and a steak and chicken oscar. The asparagus on the chicken oscar could have been a little better, but maybe that isn't in season right now? It was a terrific meal for a great price! They also poured me the biggest glass of wine I have EVER received at a restaurant (blessings) and my boyfriend got a massive and cheap shocktop draft for just a few dollars. On Wednesday, July 24 we went to the Pine Lodge with a party of 12 for my daughter's 18 birthday. Our reservations were for 6:30pm but we arrived early and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was Shannon and honestly, she was the best waitresses we have had in a long time and we do go out to dinner quite often: attentive, friendly, and every order was correct. It is rare that that all 12 people in a party rave about their entree - but this is exactly the case. Our orders included steak, salmon, crab cakes, chicken oscar, salmon oscar, and chicken parm. The only caution I would give would not to order the lyonnaise potatoes as a side, not much flavor but didn't effect how much my nephew enjoyed his meal. The chicken oscar had a crab cake on top and the salmon oscar had the crab soup on top - be aware of this, although clearly described in the menu. I got the impression they would put a crab cake on the salmon for an extra charge if you prefer that. The cream of crab soup was very good, could use Old Bay to give it an extra kick - but there is never enough Old Bay in anything for our crew. Pine Lodge had a fully stocked bar and a wide variety of cocktails including mojitos with their own local mint. All of us loved the lodge "cabin" feel, cozy fireplaces, and if you are very lucky, you can have a window in which you can see the lake. However, this is not a "water view" restaurant, but it doesn't need to be - the food made up for the view. read more

I'm not sure why this place doesn't get more stars... every time I've been here it's been fantastic. Their food is made fresh, the servers are always pleasant, and I always leave feeling full and glad that I ate there. In fact, whenever I'm in town, I make it a point to eat here if I can. The oak barrel steak is one of the best steaks I have ever had. It's always tender and juicy, and whatever they marinate it in is just the best combination of stuff to make it tasty but not overpowering. Everything is a la carte, but their sides are priced reasonably and are yummy, too. I ordered asparagus and mashed potatoes on this visit and they were both hot and delicious. The appetizers are good, too. I've tried a few of the special apps over the years, which have been great, but always come back to the crab dip. It's super good and served with both bread and chips. The issue we had was with our meal...the $54 Ribeye steak and the $27 Prime Rib were paper thin. We have never seen such paltry cuts served in a restaurant. We are used to paying $55 for Ribeyes, so the price wasn't the issue...what you got for the money is the issue. Totally not worth it and we won't be back. My family, along with my parents and my sister were visiting Deep Creek Lake last week. We used to come up to DCL every summer in the early to mid-80s. We stopped back again in 2001. Our most recent trip was just last week and there have been many changes in the area, including the loss of many of the good places to eat. We decided that we wanted to eat out on our last night at DCL and we didn't want to go to a chain restaurant. We found Pine Lodge Steakhouse in a local restaurant guide and we decided to give it a try. I knew I should have consulted Yelp first. When we arrived and checked in with the Hostess, we were told that there would be an hour wait. We had a party of eight and we certainly understood that it may take some time to seat us. We also specifically asked for a table on the first floor (of the two floor seating area). My sister is handicapped and is unable to do stairs without a great deal of difficulty. She uses a wheelchair for going more than a few steps. We were delighted when we were seated in less than an hour, but the table was on the 2nd floor. We again informed the hostess that we had requested a table on the 1st floor. She told us that this was not a problem, because they have a ramp. The "ramp" was outside and not very easily navigated. It's also a good thing that it was pleasant weather. We found the items on the menu to be quite pricey. I guess that's what you get when staying in a resort area. After looking over the menu, we placed our orders. It took over an hour for our entrees to arrive. I didn't time it, but it was probably closer to an hour and a half. We lodged several complaints with the manager on duty. My dad and I had ordered the Tilapia, which wasn't presented nearly as nice as it was described on the menu. We complained to the manager and he said that he could bring out something else if we liked. I told him that I wasn't waiting another hour for something else. He came back out and told us that he removed both orders of Tilapia from the check. I also had a loaded baked potato, which wasn't that great and it also was served slightly warmer than room temperature. I should mention that the rest of our party was satisfied with their orders, with the exception of the baked potatoes. We did decide to get dessert and the manager did comp all our dessert orders. The manager also mentioned that he removed the "mandatory gratuity of 18% for large parties" from the check. We were not the only guests having problems that night. The table behind us, also a large party, all ordered the special of the day. They also had to wait quite a while for their entrees. One of the servers complained to another server about the fact that everyone at the table ordered the special, which was all you can eat crab legs. The server was afraid that she would be making multiple runs to that table. If the staff wishes to complain, then please do it out of earshot of the guests. Next time we're in the area, we won't be stopping at Pine Lodge Steakhouse. ** EDIT: I'd like to add that the next day we stopped at a chain restaurant to meet friends for lunch (party of 11) and had 5 star service. If the chain restaurant can handle a party of 11, why can't a pricey place like Pine Lodge serve a group of eight?? read more

The service at Pine Lodge was actually just fine. Very friendly and sweet smiles. Our complaint was solely with the food. There was nothing that I would say was cooked well or even interestingly. The ribs were probably the best thing that we got. Fairly tender, but just nothing amazing. From there, the chicken was dry, the potatoes cold, and the shrimp chewy. It was also odd that they were, during dinner service, using a spray bottle to clean the tables. I haven't seen that done anywhere apart from my local Taco Bell. David, the server, was very helpful and friendly but the food was just ok, nothing special and pretty bland. We arrived for lunch and ordered the small size cheese plate for $12. It just tasted bad. I ordered the crabby chicken sandwich and my wife got the gouda burger. Nothing to write home about. During our just ok dining, another employee arrived prior to her shift's start. She stood at the bar, unlit cigarette in hand, and actually applied spray deodorant in the middle of the restaurant. Finally on my third selection I found something that they had. Then, I was a little disappointed to find that one of the things that I had ordered originally, which they didn't have, was on the bill by accident. If you're looking for something for a nicer dinner in McHenry/Deep Creek Lake that isn't pizza or on the cheap, give Pine Lodge a try. Don't be put off by the teeny-bopper hostesses; just head on upstairs to the dining room. Ambiance is all log cabin, fire places, dark woods, and a great view of the lake. Service can be a little spotty, but it was definitely a slower evening when we were there and I believe they were understaffed. Even so, our waitress was surprisingly full of personality and knew the menu well. Check in on Yelp and enjoy a free appetizer - we chowed down on the free crab-stuffed mushroom caps as a quick way to satiate our hunger prior to our entrees. I also loved how inexpensive their cocktails were - had one of the best Moscow Mules I've ever had, and it was only $7 and it wasn't small, either. The entrees, for us, are what made Pine Lodge shine. We came in for fish and seafood, and that's exactly what we got. Boy, was it tasty, too. Hubby's Crab Cake entree contained two of the biggest, crabbiest (read: no filler) crab cakes we've ever experienced, without any extraneous grease, bread crumbs, or anything to detract from the fresh crab. For me, the delicious broiled fish was perfect, and do yourself a favor and order the lobster bisque "drizzle" on the side. I'm sure glad I did, as I'm not a bisque fan and this one was very salty and too creamy for my taste. Steamed vegetables were great, and, well, steamed (nice when restaurants actually listen to you when you say NO BUTTER). We came here without any expectations, as it was our first Deep Creek Lake dining experience, and we came away very satisfied, with happy bellies with healthy food (though you can definitely be as indulgent as you wish here - steaks, desserts, heavier dishes abound), and with our wallets not too lightened. read more

We were celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary and thought this would be the perfect place to celebrate! We were very disappointed, it started off with a bus boy picking up food off the floor with a filthy wet towel and then he proceeded to clean off the table with the same disgusting rag.....we should have left at that point but had just ordered. The French onion soup had under cooked onions in it, my crabcakes were very dry and the potatoes with caramelized onions was a flop also, the onions were barely translucent let alone carmelized. My husband said his steak was just ok, he's had better and he's had worse. Google Maps said this restaurant was comparable to a restaurant called Firebirds in Pittsburgh......Not even close. We had spicy garlic wings, crab dip for our free appetizer and crab soup which is why we went. We ordered a crabby chicken and a crabcake sandwich to go. When we got home there was about 5 French fries in the crabby chicken box. We were offended by the hostess when we entered the restaurant and told to seat ourselves on the lower level and not even asked if we wanted to sit upstairs in the final dining area or downstairs in the bar area.
