This locally owned diner is located a block from union square. It serves up mostly American style breakfast and lunch favorites. The staff is friendly and helpful. They kept the hot coffee refilled often. The ambiance is very casual and informal as it's a breakfast mom and pop shop. We ordered their chicken fried steak which is seasoned beautifully much like KFC chicken. The country gravy was fabulous and creamy. The hangover with eggs and potatoes was covered in homemade chili and fresh pico de gallo. It was delicious and enjoyable. This is a good place to grab a quick breakfast and hot coffee. read more

Came here late after a show and had possibly the best grilled bacon and cheese sandwich of my life. Milkshake was a little thin but tasted good. Service was spotty but they were also very busy. Still, we did have to stand at the register a while before we were acknowledged when we wanted to pay (two employees were just talking to one another behind the counter). Would potentially come here again, so long as I'm not on a tight schedule to be anywhere. read more

Pinecrest Diner located downtown SF is a 24 hour diner and a spot that everyone goes for late night eats after going out drinking. There are some hotels nearby as well so people come here too. It was busy on a Friday night at 2am. The servers work as fast as they can and the food isn't bad. We got a breakfast item that I can't remember with eggs and chicken and we got a mac and cheese chicken pasta. It didn't take long to get seated and lots of people were eating too. There's street parking and you should be sure to check the signs for street cleaning because it is very easy to get a ticket there as there are a lot of patrollers. read more

Came here on a Monday early lunch and our wait time was only about five minutes for four of us. We were quickly seated and the menu was a good selection to look at. They seem quite busy, which was a good sign of good business! It took a little bit to be able to put in our order with how hectic it was, but I can't blame them for that. Orange juice was delicious with no pulp. All our meals were all delicious and we all pretty much ate our plates clean. Potatoes. I wish my potatoes and eggs were just seasoned a little bit before they got to me as I had to add a good amount of salt and pepper to them. Toast was delicious and a perfect plate to hold a little bite of all the things I had. Bathrooms are a little strange as they are in the back down the stairs, and it feels like you just keep walking, and they're all the way down to the right. I like finding diners still around with that authentic feel to it. It's funny they have signs that say it 24 hour while they have a piece of paper on the door stating a few days where they are not open 24 hour. Overall great spot, and I definitely wouldn't be opposed coming back! read more

Let me start by saying that I used to order about once a week from Pinecrest Diner bc I liked their food, I live nearby, and therefore the food would still be hot when it arrived. I always order hash browns, a weakness of mine. Recently, I noticed that they were mushy, soft, not cooked adequately or long enough. I called them about this, prior to one of my recent orders. They told me to put my request in "Special Instructions" in the Doordash app, which I did. Unfortunately, they completely disregarded my special Instructions and the hash browns were again undercooked, not crispy at all, mushy, and inedible. Opted to stop in last night after waiting way too long to be acknowledged at Dennys. So thankful there was another 24hr diner in the area. We walked in and our large party was acknowledged and seated immediately. TAKE NOTE DENNYS! Our server was kind and promptly took our orders AND made the food. The food was good for 3am diner food. Eggs were tasty, pancakes tasty. But I wouldn't recommend the corned beef hash. Taste fresh from the can. The food is amazing, I repeat the food is amazing, ambiance is a normal diner, so no issues there, but the service is not even sub par, it's completely horrible. You have to wait to be seated, yesterday I waited for 10 min, and there was only one other person in the diner, with 3 cooks and a server, and the server didn't get up until two couples being me walked in. After I was finally seated, the food took another 20, and came out the same time as the couple that walked in with me. Well, today, I get seated within 5 minutes of arriving, but then my order wasn't taken until another 30 minutes. Got my food, eventually, and then they never came back for me to pay. The busboy took my dishes, as I was finished eating. I'm watching them go to other tables and pay for their food, etc. after 20 minutes of trying to flag anyone down, I get up to go to the counter and tell them I'd like to go so I need to pay before I walk out. They continued to apologize. Again, the food was amazing, but the service is a zero out of 10. read more

Every time I've walked passed this place it's packed with tourists. I decided to try it and see if it was just tourist hype or actually good food. It was good! Definitely a no frills diner but that's to be expected. Initially they sat us at the back but it reeked of industrial bathroom cleaner which was making me nauseous so we asked to move and thankfully they had another table. Omg...A classic. Friendly and timely customer service. Huge menu, great many choices that will keep you coming back. It's a diner originated in 1969 with the vintage feel of wonderful and lots of window booth seating to assist in people watching guaranteed. The basement bathroom was timely for Halloween week. We stood in line for quite a while to get in here, but it is an iconic San Francisco diner, so we felt we had to check it out. It was worth the wait! We ended up going back several times (it was across the street from our hotel). It has a quintessential old-school diner vibe and the food was legit! Okay so we had breakfast here today. If you're going to have eggs you're going to pay $0.50 surcharge per egg. When I look at how pricey this place is already it makes me wonder do they really have to charge extra per egg. But WTF right ! So I had a bacon and cheese omelette. It was delicious The bacon was nice thick big pieces of bacon I got Swiss cheese It was delicious. My daughter had the patty melt which is a half pound burger. She ordered medium rural I would say it was on the rear side but it was delicious He ate it all. I had coffee and she had a small orange juice. The hash browns are really good here they give you a lot. The bill came out to $49 ! I'm going to tell you every place in San Francisco that serves a decent breakfast You're going to pay $35 to $50 to eat at the place. It's just the way it is in this day and age. The waitresses here are really friendly and great, The service is great. The cooks In the full exhibition kitchen they're all really friendly. For me all I know is we eat out a lot and it's getting crazy how expensive it can be just to eat breakfast somewhere I would eat here again though with not even thinking twice about it. The one thing I always order in this diner is the New York Steak breakfast. Child... That steak melts on your mouth especially when you order a medium... Good lord have mercy! All the juice of the steak gushing out inside your mouth... Oh good lord! These chefs don't play! The service is good, there will be times they are busy but still have the time to check on you! Always Open! This is a great spot to have breakfast. They have a decent menu and are fairly attentive. We had a very early breakfast here. Food-3 Stars The food is AOK. The price is hefty for breakfast which is the basic breakfast like eggs and bacon. They do serve toast and hash-browns but they are completely separate with a charge. We ordered Huevos Rancheros, a combo with eggs and bacon, and then side orders of toast, two orders of hash- browns, two coffees, and a hot chocolate. The bill came to $72 including tax and tip. Yup, me and two kids cost $72 for diner breakfast and coffee. The coffee is simple but good and is easy a 4 star cup of coffee. I absolutely love that they walk by often to keep your cup full. The price is crazy-0 Stars. The experience was a solid 4 stars. The diner is right on a busy corner where we were able to people-watch. Came in on a Saturday night. Place was full and looked like a great diner. Just wanted to get a couple of milkshakes. It was 10pm. They said they could not make milkshakes because they had already cleaned the milkshake machine and didn't want to do it again before the next shift came on.
