Very weak, served in a very large water glass. It seemed as though we were drinking club soda with a lemon wedge. No Vodka. So, when we were seated, we each ordered a double Vodka ( Kettle One) and soda with lemon. Thirty dollars later.....No Vodka! Unbelievable, paid enough for a bottle of grey goose. What a rip off! I have literally been eating here all my life. In my nearly 60 years, very little has changed. 1. You now have standard choices for salad dressings. The salads used to be pre dressed with Italian dressing. 2. The bread is now served at room temperature. It used to be warm, like it had just come out of the oven. Our server said it had something to do with gluten and being sanitary. My Aunt refused to eat it cold but once I slathered some soft butter followed by some juice from the ranch beans, it was as good as ever! 3. Update: Since posting this review I was contacted by the Pinnacle Peak Customer Service Team. I am impressed and satisfied with their quick response and dedication to making the situation right. We were visiting Tucson and asked some locals about a cool steakhouse. Pinnacle Peak came up and sounded like fun. It was fun. Our server was great, the tie cutting is entertaining, but the food was terrible. I ordered the "cowboy dinner" and my boyfriend ordered the "open range". The beans were tasty and my baked potato was exactly how it should be...a baked potato. I'm really glad I went that route because the loaded baked potato was the only thing I ate. I mean, again, great beans but you can only eat so many beans. I asked for a medium rare steak which was suggested. I don't mind a little undercooked and absolutely hate sending things back but I had to ask them to cook it more. It was as if only half the grill was on...I would have understood if the whole thing came back overcooked but one side still wasn't cooked at all. I assessed the situation and more or less decided it wasn't worth the calories to eat it which is why I focused on the potato. The open range was supposed to be brisket but it was more like a roast. We walked by the grill on the way out. Typically when I cook a steak or have a very well cooked steak, it's seared then cooked through. It seemed like they just put the steaks on the grill on a low heat and let it sit there. Someone said their steak took 23 minutes to cook and it was still under done. Again, if you're looking to eat at a fun place and have an experience (there's a whole little town attached and it's cute) go for it. But to be honest, don't expect good food. read more

First time visitors for dinner last night....service was great but the food was not. The meats are on the menu as "mesquite smoked" but I didn't get a hint of smoke flavor. Pretty sure the ribs were cooked in a steamer or an oven and not on a smoker. The fat wasn't trimmed off the ribs so I had a lot of fatty bites. The brisket was dry and tasted like roast beef out of my crock pot at home. Our server was great and our kids really had fun at the stunt show after dinner so we'll probably return at some point. This is a unique fun restaurant that everyone should try at least once. Perfect if you have out of town guests with kids. Fun restaurant that is great for families. You feel like you've transported back to the 60's, western style (no hippies). The waiter was super friendly but not over the top. Also, he had a great handlebar mustache. I had a fillet which was cooked perfectly. The beans were nothing to write about. I'd give the food a solid 3 stars. I haven't been to Pinnacle peak since I was a young boy. The thing I remembered most was that anyone who wore a tie into the restaurant would promptly have it cut off. So what did I do? I wore a tie, expecting just that - and too my surprise, 20 years later they still do it! Aside from this fun extra, the staff and food is amazing. Our waiter was friendly, prompt and very attentive. I ordered the steak myself and it came medium well, just how I asked. A lot of restaurants tend to mess my order request up regarding steak, but these guys never cease to amaze me. Would not recommend. Waitress was in a hurry to get us out, quality of food and steak is very poor compared to what you are paying for.

Last year I and five others went there and it was awful. They brought out a dry, cold loaf of cheap white bread for us to share as an appetizer, no butter or plates to put it on, followed by a bowl of bland lukewarm beans that tasted like they were cooked in dishwater. All six of us were disappointed in our meals, which were very expensive for what they served. The waitress was also clueless, service was terrible. Really terrible. We left her a dollar tip for a 140 dollar tab. For 140 dollars we could have gone to anyplace else and had a fine meal instead of the garbage we got. Just a terrible place, the only reason they stay in business is because they are in Gold Dust Town and going to Pinnacle's is considered a must. read more

Great venue and atmosphere. Too much going on though. Service was subpar. We waited quite a bit for our food. Price is on par with other chain steakhouses, not too expensive. I ordered the filet with baked potato and a salad with blue cheese dressing. Steak was over cooked, I ordered it medium. Was also room temperature and not hot off the grill. Potato was warm, not hot enough to melt the butter actually. Ranch beans were the best part actually. Beer wasn't cold either. I know they were busy BUT it's unacceptable to get a cold potato and subpar filet. Wouldn't go back again other than just walk around. BTW, I'm here visiting from Florida. My husband had the ribs and they are usually fall off the bone awesome. Tonight they were very dry and disappointing. I called over a week in advance for dinner reservations for my sons birthday and they were booked. The person on the phone told me I can go in at 445 that day and put my name on the list but there is no guarantee we will get in. Now how stupid does that sound? Just wait and "hope" to be seated??! I emailed asking for any possible assistance because my son really wanted to go there for his 8th birthday. I never heard anything back and we ended up going to another restaurant that was more than accommodating. They must hate money and be able to afford to lose a table of 13 that spent over 300$. I went for a special occasion my son's birthday, we used to come here with my family when I was younger now that I am back in town I wanted my children to experience this food and place. The server was ok but he could not get our order right or bring the stuff to the table, what was worst, we ordered two cowboy dinners, and both steaks were ordered medium well and well done, the medium well was burned and charred plus the well done was red and bloody red , too them almost an hour to fix it them it came wrong again, my kids burgers were great but other than than after waiting to come to have a great meal it was horrible to say the least read more

Every eatery has various characteristics, each can be rated individually. This place is located in Trail Dust Town - a very interesting and fun place. Pinnacle Peak, as a PLACE to eat, is very good. Great western decor, comfortable tables and chairs, good service, some customer noise but still able to carry on a conversation at our table the entire time and not cramped at all - the place is real spacious. So far, so good. Now for the food - very sad faced about it. Not even average. Most OK but one item was terrible. Paid a lot for a bone-in Rib Eye Steak. It was so tough I could barely cut it with a sharp knife pressing down hard and sawing with it. Unable to chew it to a point that I could swallow any of it. The Server cancelled it so we did not have to pay for it. The bread is plain thick-sliced white bread - going stale in a hurry and no flavor at all. Adding butter did not improve it. Hard to eat the Cowboy beans because they did not include a spoon in the utensils packet. Taste was ok for the few I could get onto my fork but nothing to write home about. The Brisket Dinner I had was very good for Brisket. This is one of the few places that knows how to prepare Brisket and serve it. I had a large size bbqd ear of corn - it was fabulous, to die for! No butter needed. The dinner salad was small but adequate - average for many eateries around here. I will go there again if I want a comfortable place to eat with friends. But no way I will order a steak. Too expensive to risk getting a miserable one like the one they served to me. Huge gimmick! Yeah they are located in a small town within a large town... But so what? I ordered the Big Cowboy and the order came with a big disgrace for such a large restaurant. The first steak came dry and overcooked. The outer rim of the steak was "well done," and the center of the steak was "medium well." I called the staff over and he said, "Sorry, that certainly doesn't look like a Medium Rare. I will take it back and have the kitchen re-do your order. It will be quick!" Yup, certainly was very quick. The kitchen probably raise the temp to something outrageously high to rush the order of another Big Cowboy. This time the steak came burnt in many places. First slice on the outer edge gave me a bloody cut. As I work toward the center, it was like a rare! Basically, the center was bleeding and had a cold icy texture to the meat. Called the waiter over and told him to cancel my order as I didn't have the time to wait for another order. Mess up twice and you shattered your own name. On our last night of vacation in Tucson, I chose to take my family out to Pinnacle Peak. For those folks who know Tucson, the mere mention of this place will bring smiles and some smirks. It is a place where a plain, old-fashioned steak restaurant and Old West tourist kitsch collide in an orgy of manly cuisine and severed neck-ties. The restaurant resides on the east side of Tucson off of Tanque Verde Road, in the middle of a relatively small Old West homage called Trail Dust Town. Getting over here was quite the chore, since we came from the northwest part of town and were driving during rush-hour. Businesses, both real and facades, make up this old tourist spot. For example, you might find a portrait studio in one of the buildings, but you will also find a candy shop and a shooting gallery arcade, with several photo-op spots around the town. They also run some "shoot-outs" and similar shows out in the town-circle area, and there is a kiddy-train that travels through the entire grounds. But the focal point is the restaurant that looks like an old West saloon/hotel from the outside: Pinnacle Peak. I suspect the Peak has been around for 40+ years, and with good reason. They cater to the tourist with everything you would expect a mock-up Old West town to have, and they do it in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way. For example, the waiters all have names of famous Old West persons. Ours was Bat Masterson. You'll find Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday and their compatriots waiting on tables, too. One of the more obvious items patrons will notice (at least if you look up) are the array of half-cut neck-ties that adorn the ceiling of the restaurant. One of the Peak's claims to fame (and an in-joke for the locals taking visitors there) are these symbols to American stuffiness. They pride themselves on being a laid-back kind of place, and so if you have not already read the other reviews that have warned you, here is one more: do NOT wear a tie here unless you are looking to get rid of it. They do not make exceptions, and not everyone has left with a laugh about it. The Peak serves basic, good meat-and-potatoes kind of food, with the high point being their steaks. They are a sister restaurant to El Corral, and since we had already eaten at the Corral earlier in our stay, I decided not to go for the recommended bone-in ribeye this time. Their featured steaks are the cowboy (1.5 lbs of T-bone), the cowgirl (1 lb. T-bone) and some kind of super-duper Big Cowboy steak that I didn't even want to hear described. My wife went for their big filet mignon, I chose the cowgirl (because I draw the line at 1 lb. of pure beef in one sitting), and our 4-year-old daughter got the hot dog. A couple things of which you should be aware: every table gets thick Texas bread slices with butter and the dinner comes with a big bowl of baked beans. The dinners also typically come with a baked potato or similar item, and a salad. The steaks are cooked on a grill using mesquite wood, which imparts a nice subtle smoky flavor. Well, by now you must realize that our entire dining experience here was simply awesome. The food was excellent, as was the service. The steaks were cooked just right. Bat kept coming to check on us, and even provided us with a free bowl of cooked mushrooms to try with our steaks. I must also add that I am not a baked beans fan, but the baked beans here were wonderful. I wish I had more room to eat them. The salad, bread and other accoutrements were fine but nothing special. And how about a balloon sculptor who can twist colored balloons into a turtle! Try finding that on your next trip to Chucky Cheese. I don't know what more I can say other than this was a great place to cap off our stay in Tucson. My family enjoyed it and it brought back some good memories for me from when I lived here 20 years ago. Even if you are not into Old West kitsch, I think you'll still enjoy Pinnacle Peak. read more

Wear a tie! ...a cheap tie... Savers has them for $2! This is a run-down steak house with mediocre service, dull food, and not much else. AMBIENCE: 2.5 stars. OK, it is a bit cheesy, but you do sense the history of this place, with thousands of ties hanging on the wall from all over the world. It is like the set of a Rooster Cogburn movie came here to die--but I can live with that... SERVICE: 2.5 stars. Adequate, but they get quite busy, and when they are busy it is difficult to get someone's attention. We did not have enough silverware settings on the table, and it is not an exaggeration to say it took 5 minutes and 3 people to get the appropriate amount to our table. It IS really fun to wear ties and have the ceremony of getting them cut off, and they are really good at that presentation--it is super fun for the kids. FOOD: 1.5 stars. Ugh. Steaks are without seasoning or flavor, overcooked. Side dishes such as mashed potatoes or veggies are about what you would expect if you went to visit your great grandmother at her skilled nursing facility and you made the tactical error of dining with her so she could show you off to all of her friends there--and you realize that as you start to eat your food it is designed to be eaten by people without teeth and who cannot tolerate any amount of spice or flavor. ALCOHOL: 1.5 stars. Basic cowboy bar. VALUE: 2 stars. Fairly cheap, but I would not eat here again unless it was for an event. So what's a guy supposed to do when his buddy's fiance is in town? You take her out for steak dinner in a restaurant themed after the wild west of course. After taking her to the upscale and date-like Pizzeria Vivace (awkward?) the night before, this sounded like a perfectly un-romantic place to go. Dinner at Pinnacle Peak was definitely a memorable one, it was casual enough to keep things platonic and also interesting enough to ensure a good time. The whole plaza is built to look like an old western town/fort which definitely got me into the cowboy mood. Before we even entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by gunshots. Pupils dilated, adrenaline pumping, muscles tensed, I was ready to do whatever it took to hide behind the human shield that was my friend's fiance. Luckily, it was just their nightly stunt show and I wouldn't have to call my buddy up with some bad news. After having my life flash before my eyes, we entered the restaurant and were seated immediately. The ambiance of the restaurant is definitely one of its finer points. It conveys a very casual and friendly atmosphere. In fact, it's so casual that if you are caught wearing a tie, it is cut from you and hung up on the wall as a warning to all other ties who may dare enter. With hundreds of cut ties hanging from the walls, you can be sure they follow through on their promises. I had their signature cowboy steak and my companion had their filet mignon. Overall the food was good. Not terrible, not great, but good. I felt that my steak was a bit on the dry side, but definitely still edible by my standards. My friend felt similar sentiments in regards to her filet. Along with their meals they also include a side of beans which were quite good. I'm not particular fond of beans, but my stomach enjoyed the flavors of the beans at dinner and then my nose enjoyed them a few hours later. Mission success. Me and my buddy's fiance were fed and had a good time feeding. Pinnacle Peak's food isn't great, but it is a different and unique experience I would recommend everyone to visit at least once if in Tucson. So I'm not saying that Pinnacle Peak isn't a great place to take a date for dinner, I'm just saying that gunfire doesn't always get me into the mood (sometimes it does). That's why it was such a great place to take my friend's fiance. We had a platonic dinner and to top off the un-romantic night, we ended up watching the highly sexually-charged movie: Black Swan. At first, I had my reservations going to a restaurant in the middle of a local, "touristy" attraction. After our visit, I couldn't have been happier with the quality of our service, food, overall visit. (Big ups to Durango.) It's touristy...there I said it. Now the real deal...its FUN, the cowboy shows are free and the actors come into the steak house and interact with the patrons. There's small shops in the town square and a mini train that circles the outside perimeter. As of this writing there is some expansion and additions being added so bear with them. The steaks are mesquite grilled and perfect, the cowboy beans are tasty and the old school saloon bar is awesome. My family and I have been to Trail Dust Town many times and always have a great time. After 13 years in Tucson I finally tried dinner at Pinnacle Peak Restaurant and had the Cowboy Steak. I would NOT recommend the steak here. We had a large party (30+ people) and we all agreed the steaks were a disaster. Service was great! Entertainment was great! Food was horrible. I literally had to saw my steak with the knife just to cut a piece off it. I don't know why I thought I would be successful chewing it because I wasn't. Now to continue our touristy day , we went to pinnacle peak restaurant. This is part of a chain that started at pinnacle Peak up in the mountains overlooking Phoenix many many years ago. It still has the cowboy town a little miniature railroad it goes around the town and the restaurant. When we entered the restaurant we noticed all the ties hanging from the ceiling. About 40 years ago I donated a tie at the original pinnacle peaks to the ceiling and it was lots of fun. A young man was there donated his tie that look like a family tradition because his whole family is there cheering him on. Kathy wanted to have a steak dinner tonight so she had a cowgirl cut of steak and said it had a great flavor and I had a 1/2 slab of the barbecued ribs. The ribs could have had a little more BBQ sauce but the falling off the bone delicious.The food was just as good as I remembered 40 years ago and it was pleasant to eat there and a fun atmosphere everybody having a good time. The pinto beans they bring to the table had a slight heat to them and were delicious.Only bad thing we can say about this restaurant was at their homemade root beer was way too sweet I had to get an Irish whiskey just to cleanse my palate out. read more

More on the 3 1/2 stars side. The whole Old West yee-ha feeling was there, unfortunately it was night time and unsure of how to feel. Before entering the venue, a lady was yelling to come watch the Stunt show. Wow, a stunt show. We checked the time and saw that there was a show at 730. We had an hour to eat. So, to be continued... I ordered the Cowboy and really enjoyed it. It wasn't too fatty, but the fat on it made the steak tasty. Although...uh oh...when the steak starts to cool off, the steak gets really blah. Should I have ate the steak really fast from writing what I just did, NEVER. You must savor your steak. And if it starts to go under, then you know that maybe it doesn't deserve the fourth star. On the upside, they make this big deal about customers wearing ties, so someone will shake a cowbell in one hand, and hold scissors in the other. She'll make her speech and start cutting the ties off. But I'm not trying to spoil the surprise. I just thought it was silly. Who wears ties!? Funny though how we sat next to Brett Favre's cut tie. Nothing I or anyone else says about this place will make any difference, so I might as well have a bit of fun with it. If this was a review of a tourist trap, it would get 4, maybe 5 stars. But it isn't. This is a tourist trap which happens to serve beef produced by the cattle company that owns it. You don't come here because you think this is actually a good place to eat steaks. If you do, I genuinely feel sorry for you. You come here for the touristy stuff, or because kids like it (this was my particular excuse this time). I could come up with a whole laundry list of reasons why you shouldn't come here. So what the hell, I'll give you a list: o Haphazard management of the waiting list. My small group was the only one waiting to eat the night we were there (highly rare occurrence). We were told it would be a "short wait". 15 minutes later, 2 groups of the same size came out of nowhere and were seated before us. It would have been nice if they told us a few groups of the same size were already on the list. But they didn't have buzzing coasters and we did... Conspiracy theory? There is always some problem with people waiting here though. o The place is huge, but even if there are a million empty tables, they won't seat you right away. I expect this is because they are pinching pennies and not bringing in enough servers. o The menu does not list the sizes (weights) of the steaks. So you have no idea what you're getting. This is an insult to you, the customer. They expect you to pay for whatever they give you. Fortunately, the price matches what they serve, but why force me to ask? o The steaks are just chunks of beef. There's nothing particularly redeeming about them other than they are cooked over real fire. But that's the way they are meant to be cooked in the Wild West. Do yourself a favor and get steaks from your local butcher, spend $30 on a cheap grill and some wood, and be happy with yourself for doing a better job than this. o The salad served in a big dish to make it look bigger than it is, and it's half filled with what I call "iceberg stumps". The stuff they don't use at their other restaurants maybe? o The bread. The only positive. Barely. o The beans. The beans are drowning in water, and no bowls to serve them in. I'm supposed to put them on top of my steak maybe? Or in my used salad bowl? How do beans and bleu cheese taste? I'll have to try that next time I have $40 burning a hole in my pocket.
