On this trip (6/30/13), I decided to try the Grilled Salmon Fillet instead of one of their mesquite grilled steaks. It came with the traditional salad, home made bread and their all you can eat cowboy beans. Everything was delish as usual. There were 7 in our group and no one complained about any of their orders but I did have a friend call me the next day, he had the same order I had, and ask if I had gotten sick. He apparently had something that did not agree with him, but I don't think it was from Pinnacle Peak, I was not sick and had no problems - I asked him what he had earlier and he said he had some burrito's so I am more inclined to think they were the contributor to his illness!!! The traditional tie cutting ceremonies were in play -- they cut about 5 ties (no one in our group wore ties) -- always a fun routine, especially for the kids that Mom and Dad put a tie on! It was about a year ago since we were here, I noticed a change in the "Gun Fight" show, they have put an enclosed tall fence and gate around the entrance along with a "ticket" booth. Entrance is now $2.00 per person instead of the previous donations they once collected at the end of the show -- guess donations were down too low!! Pinnacle Peak is as good as it gets. Even after being to the top steak places in the US, this is my favorite. Definitely go for the Cowboy. You get a 20 oz T-Bone, bowl of ranch beans, salad, and texas toast style bread all for a staggering $18.99. How good a deal is that? Yes, this is a Tucson landmark. Yes, it is an Old West themed restaurant. Yes, there is a small Old West town outside and you can see a fake gun fight before eating. It is what it is. For anyone thinking this is trying to be the Claim Jumper, you are missing the boat. Claim Jumper is into mostly tasteless food that they try to make up for quantity. They are more interested in having a huge menu and selling their frozen dinners at the grocery store. There is no place ilke Pinnacle Peak. Okay, I may be sentimental, but my grandfather took my family here when I was a kid ( lets just say that was a long time ago ). The original building has long burned down and the new Western themed shops that surround the restaurant are great fun. This is a MUST stop on any trip to Tucson. My rating of 5 Starts is based on the Mesquite grilled Steaks that are about the only thing on the menu :) and the excellent service I've always received there. I doubt there is anything here for my Vegan friends, so if that's your thing .... Oh, and while it's not required by any stretch of the imagination, you should always wear a cheap tie. read more

To celebrate our 5th anniversary together, my girlfriend took us to Pinnacle Peak a couple of weeks ago. At first, I had my reservations going to a restaurant in the middle of a local, "touristy" attraction. After our visit, I couldn't have been happier with the quality of our service, food, overall visit. (Big ups to Durango.) This was my second visit to Pinnacle Peak and I'm glad I came by again. One more star was gained lol. I had remembered the bread they served last time, it was cold and tasted like grocery bought, in a bag Texas cut toast. This time, I'm not sure if they toasted it but it sure didnt taste like something I can get at Fry's. Their ribs were delicious just like before. I shared a full rack with my sis and we both had leftovers to take home. I love their bbq sauce so I asked for more on the side. All their steaks are huge as well and served with a baked potatoes. My first visit I got Filet Mignon, it was good nothing outstanding. I dont remember getting a potato tho... Everyone gets a dinner/starter salad and a family size bowl of beans set in the middle of the table to share. This restaurant is set in a little amusement park called Trail Dust Town; great for young kids to explore the old west. Its a very cute place and they really keep up with maintenance. They have a little choo-choo-train that goes around the place. I'm not sure what the cost is, been I've been wanting to do it :) Let it be WARNED FOR MEN: Tucson is a very casual town. This review is long overdue since Pinnacle Peak (and its surrounding Trail Dust Town) is one of the best experiences in Tucson, and is definitely a place to take your tourist friends and relatives. But it's all about the experience here; the food is only mediocre. The interior of the restaurant is build and decorated in the old-west style, and the food is cowboy fare. It comes with thick, bland slices of white bread. The salad is also completely tasteless. The cowboy beans are served in a bowl for the table and depending on what you order, you may not have a good place to serve them. Luckily, the meat is better. Pinnacle Peak's steaks are always perfect. It's also worth trying the pit beef, slow-cooked beef they advertise as "so tender you can cut it work a fork, but we give you a knife anyway." Which isn't actually true, it does require the knife. But it tastes great. There was a time when I thought Pinnacle Peak was the best place on the East side for a steak. Now, though, it's better better as a place to take your out of town guests. And remember: it's a nice restaurant, but not very nice; so wear a tie, but not a very nice tie. read more

Now to continue our touristy day , we went to pinnacle peak restaurant. This is part of a chain that started at pinnacle Peak up in the mountains overlooking Phoenix many many years ago. It still has the cowboy town a little miniature railroad it goes around the town and the restaurant. When we entered the restaurant we noticed all the ties hanging from the ceiling. About 40 years ago I donated a tie at the original pinnacle peaks to the ceiling and it was lots of fun. A young man was there donated his tie that look like a family tradition because his whole family is there cheering him on. Kathy wanted to have a steak dinner tonight so she had a cowgirl cut of steak and said it had a great flavor and I had a 1/2 slab of the barbecued ribs. The ribs could have had a little more BBQ sauce but the falling off the bone delicious.The food was just as good as I remembered 40 years ago and it was pleasant to eat there and a fun atmosphere everybody having a good time. The pinto beans they bring to the table had a slight heat to them and were delicious.Only bad thing we can say about this restaurant was at their homemade root beer was way too sweet I had to get an Irish whiskey just to cleanse my palate out. read more

I was invited out to this restaurant and I think I would have given it two and a half stars but I gave it three since our waitress was so prompt and kind. The place has the feel of an overcrowded honky tonk barn with cheap picnic table cloths where the staff must wear ranch apparel. (Snowbirds and foreign visitors would love this place.) The prices are a bit inflated. For example, we paid $8.00 dollars for six shrimp prawns and $2.50 for iced tea. The meat selection isn't too bad but be prepared for a shocking bill if you invite a party. I would want a calmer and less hokey environment if I'm paying good money for a steak or a shrimp cocktail. It was over crowded last night which means people will pay for the performance and food which consists of a tiny teacup sized lettuce salad, some sandwich white bread with margarine, and a "run of the mill" steak. Meh. We were seated at a tiny table facing a wooden wall. We had no view of the place from our seat nor room to move our chair. It felt like we were shoved in a corner like horses in a stall. No thanks. The food was OK but not fantastic. Every time I come to town I go to pinnacle peak. This time we had a pretty bad experience. We understand that with the recent Covid 19 pandemic that things will look different and there will be rules in place that aren't normally there. However, we were not told upon making our reservation that we would be eating on paper boxes with tinfoil on them with plastic silverware. It was very difficult to cut the steak and to keep the tinfoil from being eaten. Also, we had multiple items missing from our original order such as salad dressings and drinks that we eventually received but was too late. The table we sat at was leaning way over at an angle and the tablecloth smelled musty. I am sad to say that we spent over 200 dollars for this experience. The steaks were not up to par either. Yum! Was in town for a week from California, came here for my boyfriends birthday with his family... Sooo amazing! I got a half rack of ribs which the meat literally slipped off the bone as I picked it up...(: best ribs I've ever had! Mashed potatoes were eh. salad was bleh. Sage advice: If this is your first time here, you must wear a tie. I've been coming here since I was in a high chair (I'm 41), and for years it was our weekly go-to... THIS USED TO BE AN EASY FIVE STARS. But the last few times we've eaten here I've had grizzly steak, so bad that every bite has a thick white tendon looking thing running through it. I always order the Big Cowboy - rare. And for whatever reason, last time my steak was returned twice and I ended up not eating because the rest of our group of 9 people were done by the time I got a steak that could be cut and chewed (even though it still had this tendon thing, only smaller and cuttable). GMO feed maybe? I just don't get it. And it's sad. It's really, really sad. I used to look forward to coming back home to Tucson purely for the food, this being one of the places we always make a point to visit. But I think that won't be happening anymore. My husband was so thoroughly unhappy with his food the last several times, he swears we're not returning again. I hope we do. I hope that something changes. But it's already happened a few times too many, so I'm not holding my breath. Sorry Pinnacle Peak, but you just lost 40+ year regular. Let me know if you decide to fix this. Because I will miss you. Give Your Out-of-Towners a Rootin' Tootin' Western Good Time! Grab your old ties (the ones from the 1970's) and your out-of-town guests (especially the ones with kids), and take them to the only place in Tucson that's got good grub, shoot outs, free stuff to do, and a train ride to boot! Yes, there's the Desert Museum and Old Tucson. But Pinnacle Peak is just plain memorable and FUN! And the ties? They have a "No-Tie" policy, which means they make a big hullabaloo over you wearing a tie and will cut it in half in front of the entire restaurant. Make sure you get your kids some ties too for a good old-fashioned embarrassing time! Grub? All Western and All Good. Mesquite grilled and tasty as all get out. Love the ribs. And yes, there's a great salmon meal for those wondering if this is all beef joint. Beans are old cowboy style and you can have a lot of them. And our favorite waiters are Diamond Lil or Belle Star (yes, we've been going here awhile). Afterwards, watch a Hollywood-style shoot out and pan for gold (that's free). And of course, you have to take your guests on the famous Pinnacle Peak train ride, which circles the entire property. I'd have to say, with the 3-star average, I was a little apprehensive about returning to this steakhouse. I had gone here several times at least fifteen years ago, and I understood that most places just don't carry the consistency throughout the years. I was delighted to be wrong. My biggest suggestion about this restaurant is to stick to the basics. We both got steaks, which comes with a salad and beans. We also ordered an extra side (baked potato and mac and cheese), and an appetizer. For the full five star experience: stick to the steaks. The simple salad was fantastic. My steak (medium rare) was juicy and perfect. And the pinto beans were just like the kind I grew up eating. With the additional items, I can completely understand the leaning toward an average experience. The potato was good, but the fixins were OK. The mac and cheese and quesadilla was also just OK. For drinks, the boyfriend ordered the Pistolero -- a Four Peaks exclusive for this restaurant. I ordered the Southern Shandy, which mixes the Pistolero with other yummy ingredients. Our server was excellent. He kept us up to date on the status of our food. Our glasses were never empty. And, he was hard working and fast. Maybe all the servers aren't as good as this guy. His name was "Durango", but we're pretty sure they assign the waitstaff various names to go with the theme. Every eatery has various characteristics, each can be rated individually. This place is located in Trail Dust Town - a very interesting and fun place. Pinnacle Peak, as a PLACE to eat, is very good. Great western decor, comfortable tables and chairs, good service, some customer noise but still able to carry on a conversation at our table the entire time and not cramped at all - the place is real spacious. So far, so good. Now for the food - very sad faced about it. Not even average. Most OK but one item was terrible. Paid a lot for a bone-in Rib Eye Steak. It was so tough I could barely cut it with a sharp knife pressing down hard and sawing with it. Unable to chew it to a point that I could swallow any of it. The Server cancelled it so we did not have to pay for it. The bread is plain thick-sliced white bread - going stale in a hurry and no flavor at all. Adding butter did not improve it. Hard to eat the Cowboy beans because they did not include a spoon in the utensils packet. Taste was ok for the few I could get onto my fork but nothing to write home about. The Brisket Dinner I had was very good for Brisket. This is one of the few places that knows how to prepare Brisket and serve it. I had a large size bbqd ear of corn - it was fabulous, to die for! No butter needed. The dinner salad was small but adequate - average for many eateries around here. I will go there again if I want a comfortable place to eat with friends. But no way I will order a steak. Too expensive to risk getting a miserable one like the one they served to me. I've been going to Pinnacle peak for over 38 years, I've watched it go down hill. The steaks are way over priced. My husband and I went to Pinnacle Peak about 8 months ago and he was given a cowgirl steak for the price of a cowboy. I thought no problem it was just a mistake and they fixed it. We went again last weekend and the same thing happened only this time the server argued with us that it was a cowboy steak. He could look at the steak and see it was the same exact size as mine and smaller than my daughter's steak. Normally it wouldn't have been a big deal, but when you pay $10 more for a larger steak and you don't receive what you pay for not once but twice makes you wonder. I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH I WANT TO WRITE THIS ENTIRE REVIEW ON CAPS. But I won't, went in this week with my coworkers. We are in Tuscon for work and though we got there very late, they were still so friendly to us. I looove bbq but I knew I had to try the steaks! I had the bone-in ribeye steak and that was easily a mouthgasm holy cow that was great! Medium rare and just freaking right, so moist and smokey! My dish came with their garden salad and "French" dressing. Oui oui, it was delicious! They had ties all on the ceilings (because if you wear a tie in they will automatically cut it up and put it up on the ceiling.. It's so awesome). The western feel of the entire place is just so welcoming. I love the ambience, guest services and everything about here. After a day in Tombstone, the five of us went to Pinnacle Peak for dinner. It was busy, so our wait was about 40 minutes. The salad and bread served with our meals was very ordinary. However, when it came to the Cowboy Steak and the rack of Ribs, the rating began to move up. The steak was cooked medium exactly as ordered and was outstanding. First time going here as I very recently moved to Tucson. Cute but touristy, service was good but food was bland and overpriced. My ribs were served barely lukewarm. Drinks were excellent. However, seating was odd as well... My boyfriend and I were obviously on a date and they put us at a table in the center of the restaurant, then 10 minutes later parked a family next to us with a small child and one maybe 11-12. Our family ate dinner here July 4th. We had our sons wear ties and enjoyed the cutting off for the no tie rule. It was fun to see their reactions. My youngest and pickiest ordered the kid's steak and ate most of the large serving. He commented several times how good it was. My next son ordered the chicken tenders and mashed potatoes. He will typically eat anything. The chicken wasn't to his liking. He did enjoy the mashed potatoes. My oldest two split a half rack of ribs and a filet. They enjoyed both, but the ribs were the highlight, hands down. They actually argued over the last few ribs; they were that tasty. My husband ordered the ribeye. It was really tasty. I ordered the t-bone. It was good, not great. The ribs were the best tasting of everything. We had a nice time exploring the old western town and wished it had more buildings open. It has its own charm and flavor that will grow on you until you start to crave it like no other. Our total wait was 1 hour and 20 mins, when we got sat service was quick and efficient. We ordered chips and salsa, chips were store bought and ok. I ordered a bbq beef sandwich which was ok, the corn on the cob that came with was cold, table bread was something worse than wonder bread with good butter. Maybe I'm spoiled coming from Chicago, but I went for the Cowgirl (I guess it is a 1lb T-bone, mesquite grilled) as this seemed to be the signature steak. It was fairly awful! Tasteless really. I had to smother it wtih steak sauce. It was also rather grisley (sp?). What a waste of money that was!! The salad was on it's last legs and the dressing was clearly foodservice grade. The beans were watery and non-descript. My son seemed to enjoy his 'big' burger, but that's not saying much as he normally orders from the kids menu so just the fact that I let him order the 'big' burger was enough to make him happy. And they were willing to sub mashed potatoes for his salad so that was good. The bathrooms were dirty and in dire need of both repair (door didn't lock) and updating. The cutting off of the ties and hanging them on the wall is cute but not enough to bring me back or recommend it to friends. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant except maybe for dessert. the area is very cute and we went and had our pics taken at the old-time photo shop, very fun and great souvenir of our visit to Tucson! read more
