I had the Panang Beef Curry. It was phenomenal. The charm about this place is that the menu appears to be set. Example: The Panang Curry I had didn't have options for chicken, beef, duck, etc. It was beef only, and I didn't bother to ask about other protein options. In my mind, that means the kitchen is focusing on making exactly the options on the menu, and it bears out in the flavor. However. The curry was also half the size of what I was expecting. At $13+tax, that's a lot for a single portion of Thai food. Check out the photos and note the rice portion in comparison to the curry/soup. I'd say that's pretty accurate. Here's what I mean: normally a couple eating out could probably share a single entree and walk away feeling satisfied, or if you order your own entrees, expect to take some home for leftovers. Not here. So 5 stars for taste, 2 stars for value, since you're essentially paying double (half portion for full price). This should really be a $$$ place, not $$. I'll probably only come here for comp'd lunches, or if I'm feeling emotional enough to splurge on small portions of tasty food. read more

Came by Saturday afternoon, and the place was pretty empty. Server was friendly, and the restaurant was very clean. The food was just ok. I was a little surprised since there were so many great reviews of the place. I liked the roti with strip steak and green curry dip. It was a small portion but flavors were good. The dip was thin and oily so it would roll off the roti, but tasty nonetheless. The glass noodle rolls were a little mushy on the inside. My husband liked that the wrappers were fairly light and crispy. The pad see ew was a let down for both of us. There was no color on the rice noodles--they definitely could have used some more stir frying and soy sauce. I'd recommend Imm Thai Street Food in Berkeley, or Ninna on Piedmont for some solid Thai dishes. read more

This place is amazing!!! I can't believe all the 4 stars!! We were blown away by the tastes! Customer service was amazing as well! We got to meet a super cute baby! And they were really quick at checking in on us which I appreciate. Food came quick as well. This location is a little rough outside the restaurant but inside it's an oasis! I am originally from the area so I'm accustomed to the sights and sounds outside. We got a green papaya salad (what is that!!??) and two chicken entrees, none of which I can remember the names of but OMG. We were blown away by the beauty and care for design. The water had a lemon, the decor was vintage and it really brought everything together. I preferred my boyfriends dish over mine but bother we're amazing! Flavors from everywhere. Spicy, sweet, sour, with nuts of all kinds, perfect rice and noodles and crisp vegetables! I literally dropped my jaw. Check my pics for which menu items we got, minus the names. Lol. Pintoh claims to be thai street food. i have no idea if it is or not. orders are cooked to order not premade, ready to go (as some one told me) most entrees over $10, not under $10.. offerings: snacks, salad, soup, noodles, stir fry/grilled, curry, sides, sweets. eats: Pad makuer (10) -"sauteed thai chili, eggplant, tofu, onion, bell pepper, basil, in chili jam". -a few large pieces of sliced eggplant, over a dozen hard pieces prefried tofu, veggies, hot chili, not very appetitzing. chili oil tasted slightly stale.. take outs: -a baby watches over everyone at the cash register so be on ur best behavior. -saw a standing board sign saying "5% off for cash". on my way out. didn't get my 5% off. didn't bother to return to ask for it. read more

We had the fish ball appetizer, khao soi, and this catfish dish. All were pretty solid, with the fish balls standing out for their excellent texture. A little silky. A little rubbery. Just right. The rest of the dishes were fine but the khao soi definitely needed more pickles in it. read more

A great little find in 12 st Oakland owned by a young family. My friend and I shared deep fried sweet potatoes to start and it was very tasty. And we had Pad Ki Mow and Goong Mamung, you can tell it's very fresh and well-prepared. If you're looking for a cool place to chill for a while, here is the one, great coconut ice cream and chrysanthemum was great too. read more

This is by far the best Thai restaurant I have found in the Bay Area. My husband and I found it as we were looking for a traditional Northern Thai dish called Khao Soi. We went to Chiang Mai for our honeymoon where this dish originated and were set on a mission to find the closest thing to the real deal in the Bay Area. Pintoh by far is the most authentic that we have found and the tastiest. I also recently tried their famous green curry. Which was a tough decision as there Khao Soi is so good! But this dish is also one of the best curries I have tried. All around this place is great. The staff are friendly, portion size is big, pricing is reasonable, and it's all DELICIOUS! I can't wait to try more items on their menu. read more

I am pretty disappointed in this restaurant from beginning to end. We came in on 01/28/2020. First, while waiting during the lunch service, we followed the protocol and joined the waitlist, but 30 minutes into waiting we were removed by the host. She stated she called us multiple times, but she walked by our group several times without even acknowledging us. And she just angrily just sat us down on the next available table. Next, I found the food service to be poor. We ordered our food all together at the same time. We ordered the Pad Thai for my friend, the Tom Kha and some grilled eggplant appetizer for my sister, and the yellow curry for myself. When the food came, it was scalding hot for both my sister and my friend, while I waited about 15 minutes after they were served for any yellow curry to come. When asking the staff it seemed that the staff continued to forget the order as they said "5 more minutes" every time I asked. When it came, the rest of my party was already done with their food and still had to wait for my food to come out because it was scalding hot. When it eventually cooled down, I was also disappointed in my dish as it was a very watery curry without much flavor (although my sister and my friend were very happy with their foods, which is why I will give this two stars). The worse point of the restaurant, when we talked about the situation with my yellow curry, instead of acknowledging they forgot the food, they said "its first come first serve here!" Which does not make sense since we all ordered at the same exact time. When we told them this they stuck to their guns and just said "fine we will just remove it off the bill", which isn't what we wanted (just wanted an acknowledgement of the mistake), but I guess we appreciated the gesture no matter how rude it came off.I understand its a busy kitchen service and busy lunch service, but even a two second opportunity to say sorry would have prevented me from leaving this negative review. I hope this is a learning experience for the staff. read more

3.5 I was craving thai and noticed this place popped up on my yelp search. It's near enough to my work, meaning that I can just take the Broadway bus shuttle to it. It's also directly across from that one popular Indian buffet place. Anyways, this is just for takeout. I got the minced chicken with rice and a thai tea. When I was vacationing in Thailand, all I would eat was the minced chicken w/ rice. It obviously doesn't taste that similar to eat, mostly because they had put less basil and peppers. It's still pretty tasty. The thai tea is alright. I recommend that if you're getting takeout, call in. They're usually busy and it's easier to just drop by and pick it up. read more

I ordered the roti, pad thai, and another dish that I forgot about. The pad thai was the best thing I tried that day where the noodles were bouncy and silky smooth; the taste was decent as well. The roti came a bit soggy and came with some meat that was unevenly cooked or maybe from two different batches. Some bits were dry and others were just fine. I don't recall the third dish, but it was whatevs. read more

Friendly Owners. The menu didnt reflect it but was told that many dishes can be made Vegan. I had the eggplant & tofu. FRAGRANT. FRESH INGRDIENTS. (Slightly oily but the oil DIDNT taste like re-used frying oil like many places in the area) The serving looked small but I ate it in 2 seatings so....that was cool. And it came with rice. ** Wish servings were a bit bigger but a HAPPY & MUCH APPRECIATED addition to the Downtown Oakland area. read more

What I ate: Pad Prik Ruam, Kang Pak, Khao Soi with chicken, Thai iced tea with coconut milk Visit date: November 5, 2019 First time? Yes. My friends and I came after the lunch rush and only waited a few minutes for our table. The space is nicely decorated with colorful floral table cloths and (faux) plants. The lunch items I would say are large enough for family style dining, but all the entrees are served with rice on the entrée plate so it could be a large single serving, too. We ordered the Kang Pak curry (fresh tofu, broccoli, carrot, onion, potatoes in yellow curry), Pad Prik Ruam (Chef's mix veggies in garlic sauce), Khao Soi with chicken (soft egg noodles curry soup with sliced chicken, crunchy noodles, diced shallot, pickled cabbage, and homemade chili oil). I liked all the sauce-forward dishes we ordered - perfect for over a bed of rice. Both the curry and the veggies in garlic sauce were good in flavor - nothing too overpowering, but I liked that the sauces really infused into the veggies and tofu. The star of our meal, though, was the Khao Soi. Mm, I like me a curry broth and bowl of egg noodles! The curry was rich. It's even topped with fried egg noodles - nice contrast! I did wish the dish had more veggies, but having this dish with the other dishes we ordered worked well. Service is nice and they even split our check three-ways. read more

Very authentic Northern Thai food. I've been here three times and the service has been consistent - very friendly and prompt staff. So far, I've had Khao soy and boat noodles. Their khao soy is very good. As a southeast Asian person, I'm very picky when it comes to Thai/Lao/Cambodian cuisine. So when I say it's good, dammit just trust me, their khao soy is bomb. Rich in flavor, coconuty, with a hint of sweetness. Add lime juice and it's out of this world. Order it, you won't be disappointed. Minus one star because for the boat noodles. Skip this dish, it's not good. Bland broth. No condiments add (traditionally fried pork skins would be included). They should remove this dish from the menu. read more

I could have sworn I had previously written a review for Pintoh Thai. And that the owner had reached out to thank me for it and to convince me to try it more. Somehow not seeing that, but regardless I did try it more. Pintoh Thai is in an interesting spot. While nothing else is on the same block, it is relatively close to 12th St. Bart, Broadway, and even the Hatch and Layover. The staff has always been nice and gone out of their way for service, which combined with the amazing food is worth going out of the way for. Fortunately for me, it's either a quick hop off bart, or a quick walk from home. Menu is stacked with snacks, salads, curries and entrees even with Thai food experience, sound unique and interesting. For snacks, the roti is a must order. Buttery roti with a few pieces of skirt stead and a great curry dipping sauce. Make sure to have napkins handy. Now not saying this is the best roti I've had, but definitely up there. I do want to try the crispy rolls, chicken wings, and fried calamari. For salads, I recently tried the Yum Moo Krob. I wanted something refreshing but also I love pork belly. For the price, hard to beat this, but be warned it has heat! Next need to try the Larb. For entrees, ho boy! There is so much here! Noodles, curries, fried rice dishes. I feel like I've ordered the pad thai, as that is always a good indicator of the food, but Kana Moo Krob, Himmaparn, Talay Padcha, and Si Krong Moo Tod all sound amazing. They also have beer, wine, and cocktails, in case you need more of a reason. As I said, I need to come here more often, but as I'm barting home now, I see it becoming a once a month spot. read more

Ahhh, what a perfect little spot with outdoor dining that totally saved my food exploration this past Thursday. I won't lie. I drove all the way from San Francisco to eat West African food at Bissap Baobab around the corner, but it was under construction. The disappointment was temporary as I found PINTOH Thai Street Food open with a very inviting outdoor setting of 3 tables with colorful tablecloths. It was 4p in the afternoon, so not quite yet dinner hour with one other woman sitting at a table. We inquired about the menu and were handed two. As we sat down, a kind person came out (fully masked) to ask if we would like water or something. I will say that this was surreal for me as I have not sat down to dine with full service in a little over a year and it's one of my favorite things to do. I ordered sparkling water and my friend, @yoko_okay, ordered a Lychee Ice Tea. A beautifully colored glass arrived with a little pink umbrella attached to two skewered lychees on top. I was tickled by the visual next to my sparkling water with a fresh lemon circle slice floating within. We ordered the Khao Pad Sapparot (Shrimps & Chicken over rice) and Sam Chan Tod Nam Pla (deep-fried pork belly with sticky rice). What a DELIGHT!! Both dishes were scrumptious! The pork belly pieces were plentiful and served with a fantastic chili dipping sauce - so yum. The chicken, large shrimps, cashews, and pineapple sent my tastebuds on an adventure. There was plenty to take for more eating later... Was this a pandemic fever dream that actually happened? The service was perfect, the food a delight, the pricing exactly as it should be, and I will most definitely return to this mini paradise at 1442 Franklin St. Walk, don't run to pintohthai.com which is open Mon-Sat for both lunch and dinner hours (check their web page for hours and menu). So, thank you universe! My amazing artist/musician friend, @yoko_okay, and I made plans to eat at the other restaurant so that I could get some inspiration for a story I'm working on, but that was not to be. I really LOVE that we were redirected to PINTOH Thai Street Food. See you again soon! read more

I'd give this place a 4.5. Great food and great service. They have a decent happy hour as well. The food came out pretty quickly and the portion sizes were great. It's also incredibly affordable. First time here. I got the curry chicken with egg noodles. It was good but not worth $12.50 but maybe because it's in Oakland. Thai tea was not sweet which is good but lacks tea flavor because it was watered down in addition to the ice. Don't know about parking. I took BART and walked a few blocks. Might come again to try other items on the menu. read more

Cute little family-owned place. Very polite staff. My husband and I are gluten free, so there's only a few things on the menu for us. The pad thai is good and we also have gotten the chicken curry- which is good but a hair too spicy for our optimal curry enjoyment. When we lived in Oakland it was a nice place to walk to for Thai or get takeout. read more

Probably the best, authentic Thai food I've had in the East Bay! The location is a little tough to find with no large signage, but while walking, it's not hard to spot! There's plenty of street parking, and it was literally steps away from the parking lot we parked in. Everything on the menu seemed delicious, but we settled on the tofu and eggplant in chili sauce and Thai pineapple fried rice. We also ordered a Thai ice tea and Thai ice coffee. All of which were absolutely delicious! So delicious, that we decided to order dessert and got the mango with sticky rice, which was also was one the best I've ever tried. The employees were all very quick, responsive to client needs, and very nice! Looking forward to eating here again eventually. Definitely a must-visit when you are in the Bay Area! read more

The lunch plates were served with a salad that had no reason to be there and the dressing needed help. The curry was really good as was the crispy chicken but the "crispy rice" lacked any semblance of being crisp, it was not bad, just not as advertised.

The chicken itself was super crispy and yummy. All of the components went very well together, and we really loved this one! Pickles -- this was just okay to me. the pickled vegetables consisted of assorted veggies including green beans, peppers, and cabbage. The veggies had a slight sweetness to them, but also were spicy! Like the Nam Kaow, this dish also went really well with the fresh mint and lettuce that's provided on the table. There's a good reason why this unassuming Thai and Lao neighborhood restaurant has a line out the door: the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely one of my favorite meals I've had in 2026 -- I can't wait to stop by again.

3.5/5 Upon walking into the restaurant, I was struck by its cozy and intimate atmosphere. The warm lighting and small size made me feel welcomed and comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly and provided excellent customer service throughout our meal. We tried three dishes during our visit: the Kiew Wan Roti, the Khao Soi with stewed beef, and the Sikrong Moo Tod. While each dish had its strengths and weaknesses, the standout for me was definitely the Khao Soi. I would rate it a 4 out of 5. The flavors were rich and complex, with just the right amount of spice. The only drawback was that the stewed beef was a bit dry and lacking in flavor. However, when paired with the noodles, it was still a delicious and satisfying dish. I would definitely recommend giving the Khao Soi a try, and I'm eager to come back and try it with chicken next time. The Kiew Wan Roti was also quite tasty, but I would rate it a 3.5 out of 5. While the roti itself was delicious and paired perfectly with the green curry sauce, the skirt steak on top was a bit dry and detracted from the overall dish. However, the flavor combination was still enjoyable. Finally, the Sikrong Moo Tod was a 3 out of 5. While the sweet dipping sauce paired well with the pork, the inside of the meat was a bit undercooked and difficult to chew. Additionally, the sticky rice was a bit too hard for my liking. Overall, I would highly recommend Pintoh Thai for its cozy atmosphere and excellent customer service. While not every dish was a home run, the Khao Soi alone is worth a visit. read more

Another hit was the Crispy Rice Ball Salad, made of broken crispy rice balls flavored with sour pork sausage, roasted peanuts, red and green onion, mint, cilantro, and crispy shallots, all dressed in a lime and fish sauce vinaigrette. The combination of crispy/crunchy textures and savory, tangy, spicy, and herbaceous flavors made this dish a true standout. From the signature entrees, a great item for sharing was the Cornish Game Hen Green Curry & Roti, a huge bowl of green curry with mixed vegetables including eggplant, potato, green beans, and bell peppers, topped with a whole breaded Cornish game hen and a flaky layered roti flatbread. The game hen was tender, the breading was nicely seasoned, and the creamy, herbaceous curry was perfect for dipping with the roti. From their specials menu, the Thai-Style Beef Biryani was a unique Thai Muslim dish, made with turmeric-infused rice, topped with slices of tender slow-cooked beef brisket, served with a tangy mint vinaigrette and cucumber salad on the side. Our final entree was the Miang Pla (also from their specials menu), made of nuggets of breaded tilapia marinated with turmeric and lemongrass. The crispy tilapia was served with lettuce leaves, rice noodles, chili/lime/mango sauce, and fish sauce--all the components needed to make delicious lettuce wraps with a crispy fish filling paired with savory, tangy, spicy sauces! Overall, the food here was truly exceptional in flavor, execution, and presentation. Every dish was delicious in its own way, and the portion sizes were extremely generous too!

This time I got the following: Thai Tea - This tasted as expected, so that means it was good. I told them I didn't want a straw, and they remembered! I usually keep a reusable straw on me for such occasions. Mi Krob (Special) - This dish is more of an appetizer. It was tasty and crunchy; a little sweet and a little spicy. A couple of the pieces were a bit large for small bites. Thai Basil Noodle - This was very good because of how flavorful it was. It was also slightly spicy. Since they brought the dish with chopsticks, I told them I didn't need them, so they took them away. I used reusable chopsticks that I typically keep in my purse. Massaman Curry (with beef) - This was decent, though the other dishes were better. We asked them to make it mild. The curry itself tasted good, but the main issue was that the beef was a little boring and dry. Overall, this place has delicious food (aside from the beef in the curry), so I would come again. I'm glad that they use so much reusable dishware (see Eco Notes below). Kinda like a blend of samosa + empanada. + Phad ke Mao - flat noodles with veggies, chili sauce and basil. Optionally add protein. This was very delicious and one of my favorite dishes. + Broccoli stir-fry - you can optionally add protein. This was your typical broccoli beef (or other protein). + Yellow Curry (with chicken) - again protein is optional. This was really good. Plus, we had asked for the check and waited maybe 10-15 minutes for it to be brought out, even though we were the only table remaining. Other than that, no notes and we'll come back again.

When I got there, I was immediately acknowledged by not only the cashier/server, but also by one of the packing cooks to help expedite process. I order Spicy Wontons, and I must say, they are super flavorful. I would highly recommend.

Instead of turning us away, the staff graciously seated us and welcomed us with genuine warmth and kindness. That level of hospitality is rare and deeply appreciated. Our server, Hameed, was absolutely wonderful--so patient, attentive, and gracious even though we arrived at such an inconvenient time. He made us feel completely welcome and never rushed us. The food, as always, was extraordinary. The Tea Leaf Salad and Samosas were exquisite--bright, complex, and perfectly balanced. This was my nephew's first time trying Burmese cuisine and he was completely blown away. For our mains, I had the Shredded Mint Chicken, which was fragrant, fresh, and packed with flavor. My nephew ordered the Chili Lamb, and he loved every bite--rich, savory, and beautifully spiced. It was one of those meals where every dish delights, and you leave already thinking about what you'll order next time. Burma Superstar has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland, and experiences like this are exactly why. But the flavors still hit and its popularity hasn't dimmed much on the nights I've gone over the last few years. I bought their cookbook years back but much of what I like isn't in it, so I keep coming back for the food and community vibes. There is a communal table, which I appreciate though I tend to sit at the bar when I go alone. It's worth it to get a view of what's happening all around you. The B S in Alameda doesn't have the same energy or coziness, but it is easier to access with safer parking (now windows broken there but I've had that here and been hassled walking to/from) and dramatically shorter waits. The diversity of the diners is much lower than this one though (Alameda is still mostly old white people) and the menu has more options here, so I'll continue to return again and again and recommend it to others ... and hope to not have to replace car windows.
