I've been coming to Pinyon since it opened but have sat at the bar 90% of the time. I finally was seated at a table due to having many in our party and that's what got me to write this review. Don't get me wrong, all the bartenders are fantastic, but our waiter Jordan was an absolute standout. The food and vibe was amazing as usual, it was the service the really set this time visiting apart. Jordan took his time explaining to anyone who had never been the menu items and answered everyone's questions with impressive knowledge. On top of being on his knowledge game, he was extremely attentive and handled our table of 7 with ease all while having a full section. He made our dinner so fun, being playful but without skipping a beat on his work duties. You could tell the other tables were enjoying him as well. As mentioned, the food was wonderful per usual, you can never go wrong with their raw bar. Extremely fresh and tasty. I will continue to frequent Pinyon, and I now will probably skip the bar and ask to be seated in Jordan's section any chance I get. read more

I've recently eaten at some incredible spots along the coast in Cabo, and Pinyon is the first Scottsdale restaurant that's actually given me that same feeling like I'd been transported somewhere on the Mediterranean instead of Old Town Scottsdale. We with Take Me to Othos which was their Paloma: tequila, grapefruit, Mastiha, with an Urfa Biber-spiced rim. It set the tone for the whole night: bold, a little smoky, genuinely well-balanced. From there, our server Rudy took over, and he made the meal. He walked us through the menu like he actually loved it, steered us toward dishes we wouldn't have picked ourselves, and never once made us feel rushed even though we ordered a lot. We started with the raw bar tower with oysters, Oishii shrimp, scallops, and a couple small lobster tails, all impeccably fresh over ice. Then moved into the Seared Feta & Tomato with preserved lemon honey (unexpectedly one of the best bites of the night), the Melon salad with jamón Serrano and hazelnuts, the charcoal-grilled Organic Chicken skewer, and the Beef Carpaccio, thin-sliced and dressed beautifully with horseradish aioli and arugula. Every plate showed real care -- nothing felt like filler. We closed the night the way any good Mediterranean dinner should: upstairs on the terrace with a Carajillo. It was the perfect quiet ending to a lively meal. The space itself deserves its own mention with checkerboard marble floors, warm wood, brass fixtures, and that upstairs bar with sweeping views over Civic Center Park. Let me preface this by saying that I am a HUGE fan of Buck & Ryder. I was really excited to have birthday lunch here with a number of friends while I was in town. It was rated so highly and we were all so amped to try it. It's a pretty big place and has some cozy and some open areas, and I like that you can see into the kitchen. Service was quite nice, and our server noted my extreme intolerance for AZ summer heat. She repeatedly brought me glasses of ice and made sure we were all comfortable. She had some good suggestions on what to order and explaining dishes that weren't quite clear, but ambiance and service are only two parts of the trifecta. The food was disappointing. The fish and chips weren't crispy, the open-faced flatbread was...fine? My burger was SO salty. There was a massive baklava cheesecake which was ok, but my tiramisu was sogging - there was no structure to the marscapone. The best part of the meal was my Bloody Mary - the mix was great - but we were really sad about the meal itself. The birthday celebrant was gifted a small box of chocolates, which is nice, but given the food quality I would rather go to one of their sister restaurants next time. read more

Buck & Rider's group does it again. Pinions is a gorgeous two‑story space with a covered parking garage and valet, making arrival easy. It's a trendy spot, so dress for the occasion. The downstairs is beautiful, with a great patio. Upstairs is much louder, so keep that in mind when choosing where to sit. Definitely make a reservation . it took us a long time to get one. Service is excellent and friendly. Food is delicious across the board. The pasta and clams are truly spicy, so be careful.Oysters are fantastic. Steak frites comes with crispy potato wedges and is very good.The saffron risotto is superb.Portions are big. The hummuses and tomato salad were scrumptious. What a beautiful two story restaurant. The layout is definitely unique with its open air design. Pinyon is part of the same restaurant group as buck and rider, another favorite ! I started with their beautiful spritz, Sant Andrea- Ford's gin, Italian aperitivo, house citrus-cello, sparkling wine. Very delicious and refreshing. My second drink was 6000 miles -Rayu mezcal, Lebanese arak, pomegranate, lime. Beautiful but too smokey for me. And lastly I had take me to othos - Corazón Blanco tequila, grapefruit, Mastiha Greek liqueur, Urfa Biber rim. Stunning and delicious, my favorite. We wanted to start with a dip and hummus. They offer "sharing is caring" you pick 3 from the Hummusiya menu - a rotating selection of hummus and dips from across the mediterranean served with warm pita bread. Absolutely delicious! For lunch I ordered their steak frites- center cut filet mignon, green peppercorn sauce with a arugula salad. This entree is a must for any steak lover! My friends ordered the chicken and shrimp charcoal grilled skewers and the loup de mar. Everyone loved their dishes! Service was wonderful, our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We were too stuffed for dessert, unfortunately, but our waitress gifted the birthday girl some beautiful chocolates to take home with her. Overall a solid experience at this award winning restaurant in Scottsdale. Dress nice! It's in tourist central so it's see and be seen. They stuck us in a table by the bar in the back corner which was a little disappointing and definitely loud. The only other issue was a fair amount of sediment/cork in the wine bottle. They handled it well and replaced the bottle but my cousin seemed a bit perturbed. Not being a wine guy I moved on. My steak, skewers and drink were all perfect as was our cute waitress Anya. I look forward to returning to try more things for sure as the menu is both complete and inviting! read more

The cutest place. This place is so stylish and cozy at the same time. And their food is soooo good. Came here for me and my boyfriend's birthday and they got us handwritten letter and two boxes of chocolate, so sweet. Their oyster is so juicy and tangy and scallops were so sweet. Didn't expect their shellfish would be this fresh, I can't stop thinking about it. Also got to try eggplant dip, it was so good, but their pita was the bomb. I could just eat this pita without any dip, it was THAT good. Perfectly chewy, fluffy, and flavorful! Also fish and chips, it was crispy and fresh, potatoes came with the dish was so good! We were excited to try the #1 Mediterranean restaurant in the US according to Yelp.. and it just happened to be national oyster day and my daughter's birthday! Just an FYI- if you're booking for someone's birthday make sure they know who it's for. They put a nice birthday message on the board but it had my name and not my daughter's... This restaurant is quite busy and loud, so keep that in mind when booking. We sat upstairs and it was pretty warm up there. Not sure if this is normal or something was going on with the AC that day. They had HH cocktails all day and I enjoyed my Hugo spritz before dinner. The food was excellent, the only thing I was not a big fan of was the risotto. It needed more spice or flavor. Everything else was very flavorful. We had the yellowtail crudo and gambas for appetizers. The gambas were so tasty, the best I've had- even compared to Spain. The garlic butter sauce was delicious, and our server brought out the soft, pillowy pita bread to enjoy with it. For dinner we also had the lobster ravioli, lamb shakshuka, and filet mignon skewers. All were good. The shakshuka, although different than what I've tried before, had great flavor. The steak was cooked very well. For dessert, we wanted to try the pistachio baklava cheesecake, but then to our disappointment our server brought out the chocolate cake. Turned out they were out of the cheesecake, but the manager comped the dessert for us (IMO dessert should always be comped for a birthday...) PINYON @ SCOTTSDALE The Happy Hour was an amazing deal and the red sangria paired extremely well with everything! The oysters were fresh even though it's not the typical season and the hummus was good with a whipped texture. Inside was EXTREMELY aesthetic and perfect for a girls night out or date night. Ooof I wanted to like this place so much! Stopped by during brunch on the 4th for their all-day $4 spritz specials. Drinks and service were great, but the food totally missed the mark. Started with the artichoke hummus + pita ($15). The hummus texturally was lush and smooth, but absolutely no flavor. Cubes of artichoke were sprinkled around...but other than that, there was no artichoke incorporated. The pita was honestly disappointing...not sure it even deserves to be called pita. Very doughy, no puff in the middle (was it overproofed...was the yeast forgotten??), with zero char/color; visually and texturally, it resembled a large, undercooked english muffin. For brunch mains, we both got the beef kafta ($26), which comes with 2 fried eggs, potato wedges, and arugula salad. The two eggs eclipse the beef patty, which was completely underseasoned and overcooked. Potato wedges were very good, super crispy and tender, and the arugula salad and eggs were good (but how can you really mess that up). We started with the Sant'Andrea Spritz (HUGE and easily our favorite of the bunch), followed by Take Me to Othos (grapefruit x tequila), then the Huge Spritz (huge, glorified lemonade). I finished with the refreshing Sailboats & Trains (cucumber) which was a perfect close to the meal. Four drink maximum per guest btw... The atmosphere, ambiance and service are all great, don't get me wrong. The decoration is very euro-inspired, and the open kitchen is a nice touch. The food is very beautifully delivered, but that was all that was delivered - no flavor, no seasoning, no consistency. I feel like once Pinyon brings their food quality to meet everything else, they'd be an unbeatable spot. In the meantime, I will likely not come back solely for mains. Pro-tip: The skewers come with your choice of dipping sauce, but you can ask for a sampler of all of them for free. If you're doing a celebration, they give you a small box of four chocolate truffles. The parking garage nearby is free. Highlights: I think Pinyon is a top restaurant in the valley for sure. I've been here twice, but I have very little complaints with the food. My favorites are the chicken skewers which are so tender and juicy and I love the lentil rice that comes with it. The shareable hummusiya platter is really fun. I usually like to get one hummus, the baba ghanoush and the pistachio labneh if they have it. The lobster salad is also really refreshing and delicious. I love the variety of foods that's offered here. The service is also exceptional and they are so kind and attentive. We were celebrating a birthday and they let us bring in a cake and were so on top of bringing us extra cutlery and dishes and even keeping the box for us in case we had leftovers. Lowlights: It's definitely a spendier meal than usual - I would come for celebrations and not just a casual dinner. I think the least worth it items are the patatas bravas because you only get six, the chicken schnitzel because it's a very small portion, the shashuka was overwhelmingly salty. Absolutely loved dining here! All the food we got were delicious and I cannot wait to go back to try out other items! The hummusiya is a must get!! It seems like they change this daily and we had five options to choose from. We ended up with the marinated artichoke hummus, baba ganoush, and pistachio labneh. All three were SO GOOD and it came with pita bread. My favorites were lobster salad, chicken schnitzel, linguine and clams, filet mignon skewers! The lobster salad had big chucks of lobster and the dressing was light and made the overall dish very refreshing! Chicken schnitzel was crispy and tender. Only problem was we wanted more of it. The linguine and clam dish was very delicious! The noodles were al dente and the clams were good sizes. Or were. Filet mignon came with rice, greens, and tomatoes. If too rare, they are able to heat it back up to your comfort level. Only thing I was disappointed in were the oysters. We got 6 oysters and all of them had sand in it. When we asked the server they said the oyster types we got are like that.... I love oysters, but having the two types we picked didn't convince me to want more. Parking was easy to find. Amazing meal accompanied by top service. We were there 3ish hours and were never rushed out. Although it's blistering hot and 100+ degrees, the indoor/outdoor area is surprisingly chilly. They blast the misters and fans, but they do it in a way where it's not dropping water all over. The space is beautiful. They have great indoor and outdoor seating (with misters for when it's hot hot hot out). Our table shared a couple of small plates and got some entrees, so with such a variety of food, I got a great feel for the quality of this restaurant. To start we tried the hummus with steak and hummus with roasted artichokes that came with fresh pita bread - the one with the filet and roasted garlic was my favorite. We also got a shrimp dish that was super garlicky and delicious. My friend and I also thought we couldn't leave without some oysters so we each enjoyed a Pacific and an Atlantic. My friend and I came here during Sunday brunch time, ordered a couple of cocktails (can't remember the name but it was blanco + grapefruit with a greek liquer) and some great bites. We started with the artichoke hummus which was really delicious. Great consistency, flavor and you get a good amount to share. We also ordered the yellowtail crudo which had a tremendous amount of flavor. It came with a pistachio drizzle and golden berries, plus fresh greens. For entrees we got the beef kafta with eggs. Very middle of the road experience. I've had below mid experience at buck and rider but here the food was pretty good but not worth the prices. Had better steak in a hole in the wall in ponta do sol for a quarter of the price. Service was very accommodating for my friend's needy girlfriend but disheveled all night. We sat at the bar upstairs which had a great open atmosphere to enjoy the weather. The food was great. We had the hummus, carpaccio and fried feta. It was hard to pick a favorite because I loved them all equally and the portions were very generous for a happy hour. The only 1 star I have to dock is for the service. First off, let me say that our serve, Becca, was super attentive to our every need, friendly and even gave us a great suggestion for an after dinner spot which turned out to be a great vibe.9 I ordered the shrimp Louie for my appetizer, the chicken skewers for my main entree and the vanilla ice cream that came with a delicious small cookie! Went back again on a Saturday night in the summer and had a reservation for 6:30. It was SLAMMED but that didn't bother me because they have a server taking drink orders while you wait. When we got seated around 7, the manager came over and told us an app would be comped for our wait! Incredible service! The food here is truly outstanding, the cocktails & spritzes all use really great ingredients, the vibe is super upbeat and fun while being classy. Always get the hummus! Another amazing experience. Our waitress Dylan was phenomenal in all her suggestions, ordered some of our regular appetizers, but did take her advice on some drinks and entrées. Once again food and service was a 5 star. We did notice this time the serving size at least for my lobster ravioli was a smaller serving size than the first time we were here. The service has been excellent during all three visits. I've tried a variety of items such as different kinds of hummus, house-made pita, shrimp kebab, cacio e pepe with shrimp, seared feta and tomato, crudo, ribeye, and more. I have never had anything bad from Pinyon. Everything is flavorful and portions are decent. My favorite and is a must is the hummus and pita. I could happily make a meal out of that. Great first impression at Pinyon! My boyfriend and I were in the area without dinner plans. Obviously we found ourselves on Yelp and saw positive reviews for Pinyon. So we decided to check them out. We went on a Thursday evening around 6pm and they were extremely busy. Definitely recommend a reservation for this one. We had about a 20 minute wait for first available seating - which was at the upstairs bar. The restaurant itself is super open and connected to the outdoors. The ground level has a large patio. The upstairs is completely open as well thanks to its sliding floor-to-ceiling doors. On a warm spring evening this resulted in immaculate vibes. Not sure what they do during the summer however - I imagine it would be too hot to have everything open. We took advantage of their Happy Hour kitchen specials, starting with the Chicken Schnitzel, Salmon Carpaccio, and Raw Bar Scallops. For entrees we got the Saffron Risotto and the Pan Roasted Chicken. Lastly, for dessert we shared the Baklava Cheesecake. All the food was excellent. It's very hard to choose a favorite bite, but if I had to pick - the Risotto and the Baklava Cheesecake would be my winners. Our server was friendly and explained the menu well. Pinyon was POPPING on a Friday night! I had reservations for 7:15pm and my party of 3 was not seated until 7:40pm. I also had to ask the hostess twice for a check in and told her exactly where we were seated outside. Then somebody came to seat us and mentioned she couldn't find us but I neither heard her ever call names and I told her we told the hostess exactly where we were seated- so communication between the hostess stand seemed off & hectic . Wow! We came to Pinyon to celebrate my wife's 1st Mother's Day and this restaurant was amazing! It's a 2 story restaurant and we opted for the upstairs area (which we recommend if you want intimate vibes). This Coastal Mediterranean restaurant has the perfect hummus, chicken, and fish dishes you could ask for. Mixed cocktails are fantastic too, but perhaps the best part of this restaurant is the wonderful and friendly staff who are very helpful in picking out your entrees based off your preferences. My newest favorite restaurant is Pinyon! We came here this past weekend and we were so pleasantly impressed with all the food, service and ambiance of this place. The apps are all delicious in my opinion. The theme is Mediterranean food and appeals to the healthier side but this does not mean the flavor is compromised. My recommendation is try the pistachio lebneh which is a nice refreshing dip to share. The tuna tartare is light and delicious. I ordered the filet skewer and loved it but I tried my friend's dish which was the turbot with slaw and I would get this next time. There is no bad dish in my opinion. We walked in and were able to walk straight to sit at the bar. The seafood, oysters and scallops, are so fresh. I could not resist the Sunday brunch menu because it had beef kafta with eggs. Wowwww. Happy Hour is every day from 3-7 PM, and I honestly can't believe some of these dishes were on the Happy Hour menu! The ambience was one of the first things that stood out to me. The restaurant has this beautiful, open layout with both upper and lower levels, which makes the entire space feel really spacious and inviting. The water fountain is such a gorgeous touch and adds so much to the atmosphere. It's definitely the kind of place where the setting feels like part of the experience, not just somewhere you're stopping in to eat. Now for the food! The feta with honey and blistered tomatoes was highly recommended by the bartender. We were both hesitant at first, but the second we took a bite... WOW. That dish completely surprised us and ended up being one of the standouts. The steak hummus was absolutely delicious, and the Greek ceviche tasted incredibly fresh. The pita is made in-house, and while it wasn't a total slam dunk for me, it definitely did the job. I personally would've loved it a little softer. The only other thing I'd change is the amount of olives in the ceviche, but that's really just personal preference because I'm not an olive person. The service was exceptional, especially considering how busy Happy Hour was. We were seated surprisingly fast, every recommendation was spot on, and even the mocktails paired perfectly with the food. Showed up a little early for our reservation and we were seated right away with immediate happy birthday wishes to my mother. We had a lovely time upstairs watching the sunset during our meal. I think this place has great value the food is quite good. Service was top tier and made my mom's birthday so special, especially the happy birthday shout out on the board. read more

Absolutely loved Pinyon! Everything we ordered was SO delicious. The pistachio hummus, lamb shakshuka, and steak frites were definitely the highlights. And the espresso martini might honestly be the best one I've ever had! The restaurant itself is beautiful. It has a really modern Mediterranean vibe, and the dining room opens up to this gorgeous patio with a fountain. Such a great atmosphere, especially for a date night! Also have to shout out our wonderful server Sam! He was extremely friendly and personable, gave us some great recommendations, and really took the time to talk with us.
