I visited Pinyon on Easter Sunday and it was fantastic! They're from the same creators as Buck & Riders and it definitely shows in the seafood quality and service. The food selections included a raw bar, hummus menu, and several shareables and entrees. My absolute favorite was the HUMMUS, especially the spiced olive and feta one. I honestly could've just eaten the pita and hummus for my whole meal. The pita bread is fresh and warm too. The gambas de ajillo were also yummy--I was soaking up the sauce with the bread even after finishing the shrimp. The entrees were all delicious as well. Great first impression at Pinyon! My boyfriend and I were in the area without dinner plans. Obviously we found ourselves on Yelp and saw positive reviews for Pinyon. So we decided to check them out. We went on a Thursday evening around 6pm and they were extremely busy. Definitely recommend a reservation for this one. We had about a 20 minute wait for first available seating - which was at the upstairs bar. The restaurant itself is super open and connected to the outdoors. The ground level has a large patio. The upstairs is completely open as well thanks to its sliding floor-to-ceiling doors. On a warm spring evening this resulted in immaculate vibes. Not sure what they do during the summer however - I imagine it would be too hot to have everything open. We took advantage of their Happy Hour kitchen specials, starting with the Chicken Schnitzel, Salmon Carpaccio, and Raw Bar Scallops. For entrees we got the Saffron Risotto and the Pan Roasted Chicken. Lastly, for dessert we shared the Baklava Cheesecake. All the food was excellent. It's very hard to choose a favorite bite, but if I had to pick - the Risotto and the Baklava Cheesecake would be my winners. Our server was friendly and explained the menu well. Wow! We came to Pinyon to celebrate my wife's 1st Mother's Day and this restaurant was amazing! It's a 2 story restaurant and we opted for the upstairs area (which we recommend if you want intimate vibes). This Coastal Mediterranean restaurant has the perfect hummus, chicken, and fish dishes you could ask for. Mixed cocktails are fantastic too, but perhaps the best part of this restaurant is the wonderful and friendly staff who are very helpful in picking out your entrees based off your preferences. We were able to snag some bar seats at the tail end of happy hour. The space is beautiful with an open air design. Pinyon features a lovely patio that overlooks the park at Old Town. There are two bars, one downstairs and one upstairs. The service has been excellent during all three visits. I've tried a variety of items such as different kinds of hummus, house-made pita, shrimp kebab, cacio e pepe with shrimp, seared feta and tomato, crudo, ribeye, and more. I have never had anything bad from Pinyon. Everything is flavorful and portions are decent. My favorite and is a must is the hummus and pita. I could happily make a meal out of that. We were going to order three hummuses but our server recommended we swap one out for the schnitzel. I have to admit that I was not expecting to rave about this place because of how loud and busy it was at 7:30 pm on a Thursday. We were seated close to the door and the host desk which was crawling with people waiting to be seated and at first we thought this is going to be terrible. But we were WRONG! The crowds quickly dissipated and our lovely waitress turned things around very quickly with a welcoming smile and hospitable attitude. After the first 10 minutes our evening just kept getting better and better. The food was truly amazing. We shared the beef carpaccio, Ibérico Jamón, and one of the hummus flavors. All were spectacular. For dinner, the grilled turbot and the lobster ravioli were exquisite. I had the linguini with clams which was perfectly cooked and tasted incredible, and my wife really enjoyed the risotto. The grand finale was the baklava cheesecake which was out of this world. Although the restaurant was full with a wait list that went on past 9:00 pm, we never felt rushed, or hurried. The service was timed perfectly and the staff were super accommodating. I chose to sit outdoors next to the fountain, partially covered by the shade of the umbrella. The day was sunny and gorgeous. The decor is absolutely stunning. Initially, when I sat down, a server didn't come to greet me for over 10 minutes. However, after that, everything was smooth. I ordered the organic chicken chicken skewers with a side of Brussels sprouts and tzatziki. The portions are very large so be mindful of this when you're ordering. My friend and I came here on Valentines Day with 6:30 "priority seating reservation." Located by the Scottsdale Performing Arts Center, parking in the free garage was plentiful. Upon arrival we were greeted and were told our table will be ready shortly. The place is big and offers patio, bar and main seating areas. Being a Saturday along with the Valentines Day factor, the place was packed. In addition a lot of people waiting outside. We were seating within 8 minutes of our arrival at a great table facing the open kitchen which I love to watch. There was a bit of a wait before Fuad introduced himself as our server. He did apologize, due to the crowd, and it was smooth sailing from then on. We ordered cocktails while looking over the menu. BTW they make great Cosmos and Martinis. We had reservations and asked how long it would take to be seated. Mainly so we could grab a quick drink at the bar if there was a wait. We were told 5 minutes. Unfortunately, that turned into 20 minutes, with multiple "just 5 more minutes" updates along the way. Even the floor manager came by and repeated the same estimate and kept lying to us. By this point, it'd been close to 40 minutes. Honestly, the most frustrating part was the lack of transparency. If we had been given a realistic wait time, we would have happily gone to the bar, which would have benefited the restaurant as well. By the time we were finally seated, the experience had already put a damper on the evening. The food itself was okay. The oysters stood out as the highlight, but the rest was okay. Service continued to be inconsistent. Basics like a steak knife for steak was not provided until multiple asks. There were a few small but noticeable oversights throughout the meal. I went to Pinyon around 3 pm on a Saturday, and it was packed. There had been an event at the Civic Center and the weather was perfect, so that definitely played a role. This was my first time coming on a busy weekend and actually trying to sit at the bar. When I arrived, the downstairs bar was completely full and there was a waitlist for bar seating. I ended up being able to sit at a reserved spot while waiting for my friend, which worked out. Once seated, the energy was great. It's a really fun place to people watch when it's busy, and I imagine the upstairs bar has even better views. Happy hour runs from 3 to 7, even on weekends, which is a huge plus. I ordered the beef carpaccio from the happy hour menu, and it was excellent. At $12, it's a great deal compared to the regular price. We also ordered happy hour wine for $8 a glass, which felt like a steal for the location. We tried oysters and shrimp as well. The oysters were extremely small, even smaller than a kumamoto. They tasted fine, but I wouldn't order them again. The shrimp were good, but tasted like a standard shrimp cocktail despite being described as something special. The real standout for me was the hummus. The artichoke hummus was delicious, and the bread that comes with it is warm, fluffy, and honestly incredible. I've also had their baba ganoush before and loved it. They really know what they're doing with their hummus and dips. Parking is easy, even when it's busy. There's a parking structure right behind Pinyon and AZ88 that I've always been able to find space in, and it puts you right there. The patio is dog friendly, which is a big reason I keep coming back. Overall, Pinyon is a beautiful spot with great happy hour pricing, a lively atmosphere, and some good food. read more
