Pipes was an old stomping ground in the late 90s early 2000s when I loved in Cardiff. The place is still there unchanged, but they take credit cards!! Ok, big things!! Same menu, same portions, and not much a price hike for all these years! I think I've gotten it all here, and it's just like everything tastes almost the same, so really pick your meat and you're going to be happy. Pancakes are always fluffy and huge, potatoes are always filled with masses of cheese, and burritos are always wrapped tightly. Seating is very limited, so keep that in mind! First and foremost , I love brunch! I had high hopes going into this place and they definitely didn't disappoint. Everything was absolutely delicious. They have a big menu and we ordered a handful of different items and everything came out tasting. Absolutely perfect. The service was impeccable, and every employee we interacted with was very friendly and courteous. They made you feel extremely welcome, and seemed genuinely happy to be there, which just made the atmosphere really fun to be around. Overall, I wish I could give this place more than five stars because it was one of the best brunches I've had in a very long time. I will definitely be returning soon. read more

Came on a saturday morning around 8:30am. The place was already kinda busy but not too bad, but definitely kicks up as it gets later. The prices here are pretty reasonable and I believe it's worth it for the portions you receive. I got the sausage scramble and it was really good, all the ingredients tasted fresh and the english muffin was toasted and buttered to perfection. Grieving over the closing of Bill Taco, our long-standing favorite Cardiff eatery, we set out to find another "home" for casual Mexican food. We have eyes Pipes for a while, and decided to give it a try. The ambiance is relaxing, more comfortable than being on the bluffs, with lots of cool artistic details to explore. It's not the ocean, but hey, there are also fewer seagulls and wind. The selections were appealing and the price was right. On our first visit, we ordered a breakfast burrito and the special scramble of the day. Portions were so huge, we couldn't finish. The food was piping hot, very flavorful, and colorful with the freshest of ingredients. On our second visit, we shared the breakfast tacos, and left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. An added bonus was all the selections of coffees and espresso drinks. We now have our new home, and may be able to make peace with losing Bull Taco. read more

SO GOOD! We just moved to Encinitas and a friend of ours recommended this local gem! We've already been 4 times since The burritos are delicious (#5 is the best), their fries are perfect, and I enjoyed their classic BLT with crunchy bacon. We also always get their yummy coffees (the double lattes with a syrup). It's super busy on the weekend but we have been going during the week so we don't have to stand in any lines. TLDR: Great food, good prices for the portion size, and friendly staff. Our new staple! read more

i don't know why i haven't visit this place sooner, sure i've heard of it but it was just not on my radar. Last weekend changed all that, on Saturday i decided that i don't feel like cooking breakfast and just wanted to get out of the house and visit a new for me breakfast spot near by, so Pipes it was! As i waked closer to the cafe i saw a line out of the door, always a good sign! I ordered a sausage scramble, like others already pointed out, the portions are large and satisfying, good variety of other egg based options (burritos, egg sandwiches, scrambles, French toast) . My 2 kids shared a one plate with pancakes and eggs and they didn't even finish it, the plate was so plentiful. Seating is first come, first served. The place has a pretty large outdoor patio and i believe there was also seating in the back. Coffee is good and comes with free refills. No thrills cafe with delicious breakfast, loved by locals, definitely has a devoted crowd of regulars. read more

We ordered too much food because everything looked so good coming out of the kitchen! We started with pancakes that were hot and delicious they put a generous butter patty right in the middle flip that baby over and you are set. I ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon, cheese, onion, peppers and eggs. Well it was out of this world such great blend of flavors not too much of any one item. just perfect! Sarah got the breakfast tacos which is genius corn tortilla with scrambled eggs bacon and cheese with some cilantro on top and salsa on the side beautiful to look and delicious. Big serving she couldn't finish it. James got a scrambled with ham, peppers, onion, eggs and cheese it was a huge serving as well but so delicious it was so big he was happy to share. We also ordered a side a breakfast potatoes, I warned you we ordered to much food but they were great prepared with onions peppers and potatoes, I love when places keep stuff simple. They have a great assortment of coffees they even have a soda machine which sometimes breakfast spots don't offer soda. Bottom line this place is great, servings are huge so feel free to be smart and share stuff, prices are good, servers are super sweet and helpful but best of all the food is hot and delicious. We love this spot for a nice and simple, classic breakfast. I recommend the big breakfast for the best bang for your buck. Comes with eggs, English muffin, bacon and your choice of French toast or pancakes! Love their pancakes as they're always perfect, and the breakfast sandwich is also great too! We've also had their açaí bowl and a strawberry banana smoothie, which were also great as well. The line can look a little daunting sometimes, especially on a weekend, but it moves by pretty fast and the food comes out rather quick! read more

Locals love this place. I always pass this place during my weekend runs along the beach. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Plenty of locals hanging out talking amongst each other or with the barista. Not my favorite coffee, but I thought the cappuccino was decent as Pipes cafe looks more like a surf shack rather than a hipster coffeehouse I am attracted to. Spoiled SoCal native alert. Touristy. NOT CA food. Not sure where they find their cooks and menu. Ordered #3. Giant undercooked chunks of potato: and I added potatoes. Giant uncut branches of cilantro: and I love cilantro. Stretchy tortilla. Tiny amount of cheese: and I like less cheese. They would not even sub potatoes for bacon. Bacon is super expensive and potatoes still super inexpensive. I could not convince the blue-eyed lady taking my order that it is a profitable trade off. She was impatient so I paid for potatoes anyway. Just a American-style burrito you might find in Florida or Missouri but being a Cali native, they ripped me off for $15. I also paid $5 and she told me the OJ was fresh squeezed and then poured if from a plastic jug...... I tried liking something. I was even willing to pay for something else but the menu was a bit sad. read more

This place was AMAZING! We came around 8, no line. Walked up and the cashier was super friendly, got the order right the firs time (it was a bit complicated), and hooked me up with the BEST iced tea I've had in ages. My wife got an espresso from that counter, and again, the barista was super friendly and the drink was great. We took a table out on the nice patio, with our pup at our feet. Everything inside an out was very clean. Within just a few minutes, our food came out from another very friendly waitress. It is diner food, but it's diner food done right! The acai bowl was generously sized and very good, the french toast was soft but flavorful, the scrambled eggs were just right- not over done and a perfect amount of cheese. My son's oatmeal was cooked perfectly, not just a grey lump of mush. My wife's breakfast burrito was great as well, with the ingredients spread evenly throughout the tortilla. I went back in to get a free refill of the iced tea and even though they were busy, they took a moment to fill me up, with a smile. Finally, we hit the bathroom before we left, which was clean and fully stocked. When I travel to a tourist town, my expectations are quite low, but this place exceeded all my expectations and next time I'm down that way, I'll stop in for sure. read more

The "small" breakfast is huge, so share it; the portions are large, and reasonable priced. The food is fresh, never packaged, and the line is usually out the door, but so worth it. This is my favorite breakfast spot, and continues to satisfy time after time. The coffee bar is exceptional, and their barister is so friendly; she makes recommendations for specialty coffee drinks. The layed back vibe, with the ocean breeze is so Cardiff; that's why we locals keep coming back. I came here with my friend last weekend for a casual brunch. It's a cute local coffee shop that has several breakfast food options without waitered serviced. I got the Pipes Egg Sandwich which comes with eggs, bacon, cheese, tomato and mayo served on an English muffin. It's pretty much an elevated version of an Egg McMuffin. Outside on their patio is a small coffee stand that has a pretty extensive drink menu. The shack is pretty cute and it looks like something you'd find on a beach in Hawaii. I ordered the Hawaiian Mocha which I think has macadamia and I forgot what else. The barista working the coffee stand was nice and friendly too. I enjoyed my visit and it was nice sitting outside and getting some sun. I'm pretty sure I'll be back again soon. read more

This place is crowded every time I go by, so I thought it was going to be something special. But it's not. The menu is very basic, the coffee is decent (although my husband said his French roast coffee tasted like it was flavored. Gross. My Kona blend was good.) I have celiac (so, GF required), so I got the breakfast tacos, with avocado added. The avocado was more like guacamole, but unfortunately, not delicious guacamole. My husband ordered the #3 burrito, but he got the #2. It was decent but not what he really wanted. On the plus side, portions were generous. All in all, I don't think we will go back. read more
